Acceptable temperature range for i5-6600K?

CC268

Hey guys,

I just got done building my PC! I am going to be installing Windows 10 this afternoon and I had a few questions about the CPU temperatures:

1. What is an acceptable range of temperatures for the i5-6600K? (I am using a Kraken X61 cooler)

2. Is there a specific program I need to keep track of these temps or is there a program that my motherboard has for that? (MSI Z170A M7)

Thanks!

preferably bellow 75*C.

If it overheats it will be pretty obvious.

What's an ALT code? :o

It's a code that allows you to insert characters that aren't typically found on a keyboard. It's always found in the form of alt+*#*

This thread turned into this.

Anyway, start worrying if it exceeds 80°C and I suggest HWMonitor.

It's a code that allows you to insert characters that aren't typically found on a keyboard. It's always found in the form of alt+*#*

With the use of "alt" you can directly insert the ASCII code for the character you like to write. It works even with non-printable characters like new line (carriage return).

What temperatures are you seeing? My i5-6600K does shockingly well with my Corsair H80i. Usually 65°C or under in AIDA64's stability test, and maybe 40-50's in games. That's at 4.5 GHz and voltage at 1.315 V.

I generally use RealTemp or MSI Afterburner to track temperatures, depending on what I'm doing.

I just installed windows I haven't even really used it yet haha...I am new to building and overclocking.

I just wanted to know acceptable temps for my reference. Looks like under 80 and I am good.

Just be aware that 80°C in a stress test means something different than 80 in a game. 80°C is acceptable if that's in an worst-case scenario workload, because most applications you're likely to run won't hammer your CPU that hard. I don't think 80 as a day-to-day gaming temperature is okay at all.

Based on my own experience, I think an i5-6600K with a properly installed Kraken X61 and good thermal compound application isn't going to get anywhere near that. Unless you're running 1.4-1.5 V through it, which I wouldn't recommend.
