Go to solution Solved by amintha1992,

thank you all for the suggestions.

i already got him a laptop.

acer E15 ES1-511-C35L for CAD $380 with taxes.

I need a laptop for my dad. It's not going to be moved around, but probably live on the dinner table. So it can not be a desktop. But it doesn't have to be an ultrabook either.

Here are the needs.

- Atleat 720p screen. More thr merrier

- 4gb or more RAM, if upgradeable or have an empty slot even better

- Intel or AMD, but have to able handle some chrome tabs playing videos.

- does not need to be anything gaming.

- must run Windows 7 or 8

- have to be less than $500

- doesn't care about the brand much.

I know it's a lot. But any recommendations are welcome.

Thanks,

amintha

I recommend the HP 350 G1 (K4L54UT#ABA) Notebook (Intel Core i5 4210U version)

I fits what you want and is under 500 but I see deals on it sometimes so you could get it for less if you dig around. What i like about ti the most is its size / weight.

Probably should bookmark this one, seems like a lot of people are looking for sub 500 laptops and having an 820m is pretty decent at this price range.

+1

I'm using a similar laptop, HP 250 G3, same specs, just the i3 I'm using is at 1.7GHz and I can confirm it can run quite a few games while having awesome multitasking, ignore the low clock, the i3 kicks ass. :D

Well I don't think you can go i5 under 500$ and the i3 beats out all the AMD alternatives up to and including A8. :/

Also, this GPU could accelerate some of your dad's work, I don't know which software your dad plans on using. :)

It sounds like his dad is just gonna use it for web browsing.

Take a look at this from Dell. It gives you options.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 4GHz @ 1.3 volts | CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO | RAM: 8GB DDR3

Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P | GPU: EVGA GTX 960 SSC | SSD: 250GB Samsung 850 EVO

HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Green | Case: Fractal Design Core 2500 | OS: Windows 10 Home

no its not... its just a waste of money, money that can be put in to other things,

how can some thing be useful if you are never going to use it?
