Slow wireless transfer speed

KevinM

I recently purchased a NAS, and transferring files to and from it over wireless network is a lot slower than I expected. At the moment I am only getting speeds of around 3-5 MBps.

The PC is equipped with a wireless N 300 Mbps capable card and the router is also wireless N 300 Mbps capable. So i expected to get speeds of around 30 MBps

The NAS is connected to the router through a gigabit connection. And the distance between the PC and the router is ~5 meters. There are no walls in between.

At first windows only reported a speed of 130 Mbps for the wireless connection, but after changing the channel width on the router from 20 MHz to auto, that went up to 300 Mbps. The transfer speed did not change however.

When transferring files from another PC that is also connected through gigabit i get speeds in excess of 110 MBps, so the NAS is plenty fast.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong here? Or are these normal speeds for wireless N 300?

P.S. I tested both SMB and FTP, and the speeds are pretty much identical.
