Dead DIMM slot 4?

Jebonia
Go to solution Solved by Jebonia,

I figured it out guys. Atleast i think i did. It just fixed itself like technology always does. Unless it was because i forgot to screw one point of the motherboard when i overhauled the cable management. That could of caused it to not ground out properly

I left my computer over night to download far cry 3 blood dragon. I turned it off to go to school. I boot the PC back when i get back home and notice that is only get 4gb of ram even though i know i had 8gb since i build itt. I start playing around with the ram reaseating it, only using one stick, grabbing ram from my other computer and checking all slots. It seems that dimm slot 4 is dead. I know that the ram is working properly. If i try to boot it with only 1 stick in the 4th slot, it will go infinite boot loop. If i try putting it in dimm 2&4, it only recognizes 4gb. When i put it in dimm 1&3, works fine. It seems that all slots work in any configuration except for dimm 4. Is it possible that only dimm 4 is dead? I have googled it up but it seems people only gett 2&4 not working or 3&4. Not just one single slot. I was planning to upgrade to 16gb of ram next week but it seems i can't because i think DIMM 4 is dead

Motherboard is an MSI h77ma g43 and Ram is The corsair vengeance LP 2x4gb.

the way you said is that in dimm 4 it works  but dimm 2 and 4 dont so it sounds like dimm 2 is your problem unless i read wrong.

populating dimm 2&4 lets it boot but only recognizes 1 stick of ram (4gb). If i populate only dimm 4 and nothing else, it will do an infinite boot loop.

Okay maybe just use 1 and 3

That is what i am doing right now but i mentioned that i want to upgrade to 16gb by adding another 2 sticks of ram.

I don't see the harm in trying for a warranty, as long as it's not user-damaged then it should be fine. Best to ring up the manufacturer and ask.

Fair enough. It's just that i bought it online and if i try for warranty and they find tthe product non defective, i have to pay them money for 'wasting' their time and also money to ship it to them in the first place. I also have to pay them to ship it back. I am 97% sure i treated the motherboard correctly
