PSU Wattage issue for the RTX 3080

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hi,

Since the RTX 3080 was launched, they said that it's recommended PSU wattage is 750w.

but do i really need to get a new psu? since i just built my pc around february 2020, am rocking a Corsair RM650x (80 Gold plus).

My pc specs:

Intel I9 9900K

Msi MPG Z390m gaming edge ac motherboard

Corsair dominator platinum 32gb ram

Noctua Nh-u12A

Samsung evo plus 500gb

Toshiba 2.5" hdd 1tb

Corsair RM650X PSU

I waited on getting a grapics card, because i wanted to get the new RTX 3080 series.

but my question is, Do i really need a 750w psu for the RTX3080? would my 650w be enough?

Please help me out guys.

There's another thread about this in the PSU section:

It's just something to discuss right now, and since not very many people have a 3080 at the moment, it might be worth it to wait a bit, or just to discuss general power supply issues, etc.

Thanks.

Yeah i think i'll wait on it, until more people get their hands on the 3080 and their experience with a 650w psu + their feedback.

Are you overclocking the cpu?  Do you think you are going to overclock the gpu?  You should upgrade to a 750 or 850 watt power supply.  I heard that Nvidia recommends at least a 750 watt power supply for the RTX 3080.

3080 power draw in the 320(stock)-375w range(GamersNexus), reviews I see for the 9900k say 200(stock)-250w (Tom's Hardware).
So if not OC'ing it should be ok, if OC'ing you probably want to get more power delivery

Thanks for the tip, your right.

but i'll still wait until more people get their hands on the 3080 and use it with a 650w psu + their feedback.
