MB Bios + Displaydriver = Bootloop

zer0xmatic

Hi everyone,

At first my Specs:

  • Ryzen 3700x
  • Msi Meg Unify x570
  • Palit Gtx1080ti Gamerock Premium
  • HyperX Fury 16GB 3200mhz cl16
  • NZXT E850 Power Supply
  • 970 Evo 512GB
  • WDC Blue 512GB
  • Sandisk 1TB Sata SSD

What´s the Problem:

I can´t get my System to Boot into Windows if a Bios version with Agesa above 1.0.0.3 ABBA is installed.

At first i thought the Problem is Asrock´s messy Bios (swapped the X570 Steel Legend for the MSI Unify after that).

Yesterday, after installing the Meg Unify i imediatly updated the Bios to the Latest Version (A42(Agesa 1.0.0.5)) and did a system wipe with a fresh Windows Install.

Everything Works fine until a Displaydriver is installed. The system then crashes as soon as the DD is installed, and will bootloop into Windows Repair.

Safe-Mode will boot up normaly.

If i uninstall the DD via DisplayDriverUninstaller i can Boot into Windows as usual (until a DD is installed again).

So then i tried the fix that worked for my Steel Legend Motherboard. I flashed the A00 Bios (Think it´s kinda Agesa 1.0.0.3 or so).

Windows will boot as usual even if Displaydrivers are installed.

So everything in Short:

Bios with Agesa above 1.0.0.3 Abba    +    Displaydriver       =   Bootloop

Bios with Agesa above 1.0.0.3 Abba     -     Displaydriver      =   Boot success

Bios with Agesa 1.0.0.3 Abba or below + Displaydriver         =   Boot success

Sounds like you either didn't update via the BIOS utility or the GPU is going to shit

BIOS was flashed on both motherboards via bios intern flash tool.

With the old MB bios I can easy push the card to 2ghz perfectly stable. So I don't think it's the video cards hardware.

Xmp on and off was already tried. Same results.

If the same issue persists across different boards, then the only thing left is the card

Well,

Kinda yes but kinda no

Yes it has something to do with either the card the bios of the MB or the display driver.

No because I think I'm more likely to run into some kind of software bug because the card functions properly in the Abba 1003 scenario.

If older GPU drivers don't resolve this - the issue is most likely the GPU firmware. It warrants a GPU RMA.
