Upgraded to RGB RAM and hmm...

I had a 16GB 3200 Kit (2x 8GB) of HyperX Fury RAM in my PC and wanted to join the RGB craze so I went ahead and bought 2 sets of these -

The voltage for the old kit was 1.2v and the voltage for the new kit is 1.35v so I went into the BIOS to enabled the XMP profile and changed the DRAM Voltage to to 1.35v which had to be manually entered. Saved settings and restarted.

 

Then when it restarted the motherbord beeped 3 times (long). Then switched itself off, then back on, beeped once switched itself off then back on and booted as normal.

After booting into windows and checked task manager and now my ram is only running at only 2400MHz. So i tried a bit of troubleshooting, by taking out 2 sticks, enabling XMP and voltage change, and WAHEY! it works with 2 sticks and then tried again with 4 and same thing happened again and I gave up...

 

I have a Ryzen 7 2700X running on an MSI B450 A-Pro Motherboard and for some reason it's either 16GB 3200MHz or 32 GB 2400MHz... Which is annoying and if anyone has any ideas it would be very helpful! Thanks in advance!

Yes this 2700X has a supported memory frequency of 2933mhz. Try this frequency instead.

Having additional sticks of memory is harder to run higher frequency.

2x8gb x2 ≠ 4x8gb...the advertised speed was only tested on 2 ram stick...to be sure get a 4x8gb next time...also check the compatibility table on the motherboard's site...those listed are tested by the motherboard manufacturer...have a look:

Aww... I thought 4x 8GB kit would be the same as 2x 8GB, I was sadly mistaken as it turns out.

 

Also, in response to ShrimpBrine's solution, the max frequency it will allow me to go is 2666 without it beeping at me. Which i guess is better than stock i suppose.

 

Am I gonna notice a big difference in productivity between 2666 and 3200? I know in games it can gain a few FPS here and there.
