GPU Not Detected

hoiv

Hello,

So I just picked up this PC from someone and it is only 4 months old. I just got it and the GPU isn't detected. I have tried full power recycle, taking it out and plugging it back in but now I have no idea what to do. The lights are on and the fans are spinning but it just won't get detected. The GPU is the EVGA 2080. If anyone has a fix please help.

@hoivMake sure the Power is connected to the GPU correctly and if u have another PCI-E Express port try plugging it into there.

All power is connected correctly. For another PCIE- Express port, do you mean changing slots or cables?

I'd try both. It could be a bad pcie slot bad power leads or the card has a bad power rail. I fix a ton of 9 and 10 series Nvidia cards missing either the 1.8v or 3.3v rail on the gpu itself that causes the lights and fans to work fine but no video and it won't show up in device manager. Try it on another motherboard if you can or atleast another slot and power leads.

Here’s an update for anyone else seeing this. I have an MSI mobo in an older PC and the new PC has the z390 E Gaming. The older PC has a 970 in it.

2080- detected on MSI mobo

970- detected on MSI mobo

2080- not detected on Asus mobo

970- detected and works on Asus mobo

this is where it gets confusing. The 970 works perfectly fine with both mobos but the 2080 only works with the older MSI. But when I put the 2080 into the Asus mobo, if I run CPU Z the 2080 shows up. I’m very very confused on what is going on. CPU Z detects the 2080 but it’s not up. If anyone can help, please do. My discord is hoiv#4172 . Any help would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention, I tried changing slots and still didn’t work.

What does device manager say with the 2080 in the Asus mobo?

Just the normal integrated graphics. Doesn’t show up in the device manager.

well from here it sounds like theres an issue with a power rail on the asus boards pcie bus. the 970 uses a vastly different power control system than the 2080. if the mower management system detects a low or missing rail from any power source it shuts the card down (minus fans and lights). its not an issue with the card since it works fine in the other mobo so id say as a last ditch effort to clean the pcie on the motherboard with some ipa but its a slim chance that will do anything seeing as both ports dont work with that card. unless your good at hardware level diagnostics id say its in need of a new mobo or swap for a card that works in it lol.

its only 4 months old, is it a custom build or is it a pre built?

you can try booting linux and using some list commands to see if theres any hardware level interactions going on. have you tried reinstalling windows? i highly doubt its software but ive been wrong plenty.
