Laptop as Peripherals and Monitor

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm currently working on a "hidden workstation" where i use my laptop as a monitor and keyboard but all the processing runs over my hidden itx pc. I know that there are a few programs where you can use the laptop as a second monitor but is it also possible to use the keyboard and the connected mouse from the laptop?

I suppose you'd also have to turn on the laptop etc for using the display?

I suppose you could also use those programs (TeamViewer, etc.) to use your laptop's keyboard, but I don't think it is possible to do without input lag using a program. Same with using you're laptop's display for the desktop. Not sure if that's possible without input lag using a program.

Not sure if there are adaptors that allow you to connect laptop keyboard to your itx desktop (from your laptop keyboard's cable to usb). I've seen some pictures of it online, but couldn't find it for sale anywhere:

Current desktop: (Optiplex 9020 MT)

CPU: i7-4790 | GPU: Gigabyte GTX970 ITX | PSU: EVGA BT 450W Bronze | Ram: 2x8gb DDR3 1600MHz

The build: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1158091-optiplex-9020-mt-project-build-i7-4790-gtx-970

Future plans:

  • i7-4790k
  • Z97 motherboard (really want a ASUS ROG Maximus VII Formula Watch Dogs Z97 ATX motherboard)
  • + 2x8gb ram (for a total of 32gb)
  • Better gpu
