Flashing Bios (Should I?)

I have been seeing a lot lately about flashing the Bios of Graphics cards and I have been wondering if I should or should not. I have a GTX 1060 that the only thing that has been done to it is updating of drivers. I have never overclocked it or flashed the Bios. So I guess I am asking if I should or should not. And for someone who has never done it before, and how easy/difficult would it be?

You heard probably about flashing 5700 with 5700xt bios, as far as I know flashing bios on nvidia cards is not the thing. You can always oc if you didn’t do it so far, will squish some extra performance from the card at least.

A massive, capital letters NO

 

Unless you NEED to, don't flash the bios on anything - motherboard or GPU. A Bios flash failure can brick your computer if it fails.

 

some people will disagree and say that they dual bios / flash their bios all the time / its much safer now etc etc but theyre wrong and theyre giving inexperienced people bad, unsafe advice. 

 

Edit: Like Whiro said, if youre itching to do something to squeeze more performance out of your card you should definitely turn towards the much more risk/reward friendly overclocking

I do flash my motherboard maybe once a year. My most recent was mainly to get ready for the next gen CPU's. I want to go from the Ryzen 5 1600 to the Ryzen 5 3600 but I am on an older MB so hence the update.

you fail to mention that flashing a 1060 would yield no benefits, which is more relevant. also of note, their, and its usually not unsafe, to say its bad and unsafe, and shouldn't be done unless absolutely necessary seems more fearmongering than sound advisment

which is an example of one of the few reasons to need to flash your bios

 

doing it regularly is not a good idea. and like grockle said it will improve nothing on your gpu.
