8gb ram installed, 5.9gb usable? Help!

Hello, this is my first post and my first PC build so apologies in advance if I'm asking a stupid question!

I recently built a starter PC:

-Ryzen 3 2200G

-8 gb 2666 Mhz

-Asrock B450-M/AC

No GPU, but CPU has integrated Vega 8 graphics. Device specs say 8gb installed with 5.9gb usable. I've found a few websites saying the integrated graphics are taking 2gb of ram and you can change the bios settings, but nothing is working.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you all in advance!

2gb of the 8 are allocated for your integrated graphics so it shows that the CPU has 6gb to use.

Do you know if there is a way to change this setting?

Well you cant really remove it, since your apu needs vram. Thats the sacrifice for using an apu, your memory is used as vram. What you can do in your bios is change how much the apu can use as vram, so you should be able to lower it to like 1gb or make it higher.

  • 1 year later...

I have reduced the graphic memory to 512mb and now my ram increased to 7.4gb.
I was wondering how does decreasing the graphic memory to 512mb affect my laptop? Do I have to suffer in certain areas of performance?
