Should I upgrade from my 980 ti?

harleyjfret

I've got a 980 ti in my PC rn but a couple days ago I was having some issues with booting and playing league of legends and rust. It was crashing and giving me blue dots after it posted and would give me white artifacts and then I switched it out with my friends GPU and it worked just fine so idk. But these past couple days my 980 ti has been working perfectly but it has this weird humming and I think it's the power delivery I'm not sure... so I dont know if it's time to get a new graphics card or not I've been looking into the Asus strix 2070 oc but dont know if it's worth it.

Sell it while it still works.

You can get $100 - 200.

Get a RX580 or 1060.

You do realize a 980ti destroys both of those. It's kinda like saying sell your 1080ti for a 2060.?

No need to ask questions like that. First of all, if it's not working properly, just bring your PC or GPU to the nearest computer maintenance service. They will tell you what is wrong with your GPU. Maybe it just needs thermal paste replaced, but then maybe it's near to the end of its lifetime.

For the question about should you you upgrade it, my answer is big NO. If you are playing on 1080p or even 1440p LoL and Rust, and games like that, then no need to upgrade it. Only if you are transferring your gaming to 4K and going to play games like Ark Survival, which is the most demanding game I played until now, then upgrade it but nothing under 2070 Ti.

Which 980 Ti?

As 980 Ti owner, i think at least 1080 Ti/Radeon VII/2080 performance tier if i want to upgrade for it to be worthy.

This

I understand that these options might be a bit pricey BUT if you could afford it you should move to defintely move to the highest tier currently possible from a 980ti. anything else will probably feel like a side-grade.

obvs 2080/2080ti's a still super pricey and even a Radeon VII ($1000+ aud) but you might be able to pick up a 1080ti for a bit cheaper or even second hand.

Artifacting could mean it's overheating.  Have you tried dusting out the cooler or reapplying thermal paste?

Exactly that. Clean the dust and reapply thermal paste. After that there's no need to upgrade if  the card works properly.
