ssd for old laptop

I have a old laptop (the one on profile) and I am thinking about getting a ssd for it. one problem I am a teen ager with little revenue and little money so would prefer <100$ 500gb or more and needs to be 2.5" because I'm 99% sure this thing is older than m.2.

I live in misery USA. my timezone is central daylight time which is either UTC -5 or -4 because the government hates everyone.

Either way, verify how much room you're actually using on the old drive, you may be surprised. Might only need 256GB.

well guess what! My hard drive completely died! yyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy! now I have no idea how much I need and no idea what to do! I guess that is why you pay attention and check smart and back up and keep a spare and all that fun stuff! I guess I could use 240GB I was using less than 128GB just don't like low storage. Guess no money no choice!

Sorry to hear that.  What were you using the laptop for?  List your applications and games, we can give a sense of how much room you would need.

google chrome besiege cupcom faf (no shame all glory!) and bible study and the ocasoinal school paper usually those are on google drive

Glad to help.  One note... you don't have to activate Windows if you don't want to, but if you do... there are cheap Windows keys out there at places like kinguin.com or scdkey.com etc.

 

That's if it prompts you for activation.  Not sure, since you're not swapping any other part.

I just use a windows 7 key which seams to fix that. also I am converting everything over to linux using pop!
