Home RDP Gateway Server?

I currently connect to my computer at home by directly port forwarding an obscure port to it, which means I cannot prove the identity of my remote computer, which is NOT great. Sometimes I use my raspberry pi VPN to connect (which is openvpn with proper certificate and password authentication) but I often find it easier to to directly connect to my computer. Is there a good way to add kerberos to prove the identity of the remote computer, perhaps with a raspberry pi? I'm looking for something similar to the RDP gateway that I use to connect to my computer at work.

AFAIK the RD Gateway roll is only available on Windows Server. I'd stick with VPN.

Plus I'd consider the VPN the most secure method anyway.
