X13 G1 Yoga I5-10310U 16GB 450usd Lenovo X1 YOGA G3 i7-8650U 16gb 370usd Hi, so I am on a tight budget and looking for a 2-in-1 laptop for university that will last for the next 3 years. After reading about problems with hinges in many models, I am considering these 2 options. My questions are: Performance-wise, is there a huge gap between the i7-8650U and i5-10310U? Which one would you recommend? Are the hinges really durable in these models? Should I save up and buy something with a newer CPU? Do you have any other recommendations? I can stretch my budget to 600 USD if it's really worth it. How they work with linux. Is palm rejection working fine with pen? Does keyboard detach in tablet mode? Why 2-in-1? It's a really convenient option. Being able to switch between using a stylus for handwriting in one class and using the keyboard for note-taking is a deal-breaker for me.

Hey guys, I'm really having a hard time decide between the Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th Gen or the Lenovo X1 Nano. I'm a real estate broker, I will use it to do more web browsing, watching videos and that's pretty much it. Maybe play league of legends once in a while, I love gaming but prefer to do it on a desktop with bigger screen. For sure I would not mind the extra inch on the X1 Carbon and the extra ports on the laptop. My budget is around max 2800$ CAD. Would like to buy it in the next month, open to suggestions but really like Lenovo laptops from everything I read and reviews. Those on the picture would probably be between the 4 Lenovo laptops I would choose from. Thanks in advance! Alex

Hello Guys, i got the old Laptop of my dad a few days ago. It´s a 5th gen Lenovo X1 Carbon (Prod. Nr.: 20HR002MGE if thats usefull). The device has a Synaptics WBDI - SGX Fingerprint reader that used to work just fine until i got it. The Laptop had a freshly installed Windows 10 pro and no I´m unable to set up my Fingerprint. What happens: I go to the settings menu to windows hello fingerprint. I type in my pin and get to the set up process. The LED above the sensor lights up in green. As soon as i touch it, it blinks yellow 3 times and then goes black. A few seconds after, the set up fails and Windows wants me to start it again, obviously with the same issue over and over. What have i done so far: I tried opening the device and reseating the cable I did an in Place Upgrade with the newest Win10 Version, keeping my files so it would just clean up the registery and the windows files. I reset the fingerprint data in the BIOS I ran Lenovos Update Programm, which updated the BIOS to the newest version I uninstalled the Driver from device manager and installed the newest one from Lenovos website (5.2.3540.26) I searched the Group Policies and set biometric authentification on for all users I enabled SGX in the Bios permanently I basically searched through all of google and tried everything that fixed the problem on other devices. I´m just really frustrated and want to get the Sensor to work. If you have some opinions of what I can try to get it to run, i would be very gratefull. With kind regards, Florian

Hey guys, I'm really struggling to take a decision for a laptop. I'm a real estate broker and would like something light and thin to work and well built because I will be carrying it around a lot. I'm a gamer but I think I will not play much games on a little laptop, I would prefer to play on my gaming desktop computer. I want something that will last me at least 4-5 years a not feel too slow. I like a good screen, image quality, nothing bulky. It looks like the keyboard on the Lenovo is pretty good also. My budget would be max 2000$CAD tax in. I'm hesitating between those two models below but I'm open to suggestions. I know the MSI is a gaming laptop, but it's not too big and it as a GPU compared to the Lenovo but like I said I much prefer gaming on a desktop with a big screen. There's a really good deal on the Lenovo also right now, instead of 4789$ it's 1615$. MSI: https://www.newegg.ca/core-black-msi-gs-series-gs66-10se-242ca-stealth-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834155451?Description=msi stealth&cm_re=msi_stealth-_-34-155-451-_-Product&fbclid=IwAR2J8n6CmSJ0KoMNmV9m6eHnuK7G_Db-Fs5vnRd6BwwIhCL0VlKCJ7V4Dy0 Lenovo: https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x1/X1-Carbon-Gen-7/p/20QDS3DQ00?fbclid=IwAR3NzRiJ1qPVF8KgYEe-1OFvHtoxYcSGqBTTjXmuOOLw__EjjMmYEPpHySo Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations.

Hi everyone, Anyone knows of someone that got an unused Jetson TX1 dev kit to run as a SHIELD console ? I'm wondering if you could just install the same OS as the SHIELD (if you can find it lol...) or if it is really different ? Both are running with a Tegra X1, so you can expect to be able to make it work, at least theoretically... Now for most people to be in the case of having a dev kit laying around unused is another story

For those of you who have this box, how do you like it? Is it quick and responsive when turning channels? Trying to get another decent promotion from Comcast, and the X1 is being offered in one of them. I know earlier versions of this box had issues, not sure how polished it is now. Thanks!

Just purchased a custom preset build of the P1 Gen 2 from the Lenovo website, and I selected the smart card reader because it was only 20 bucks so why not. I had no idea what it did so I looked it up and got very confusing answers, some saying that its for government ID cards, or for encryption of company computers and use employee IDs to unlock them, etc. I had so many questions... Can I use it for encrypting the computer or even encrypting specific files on the computer itself? That would be cool. If I can, what kind of card do I need, what model or type? What brand is the best? Is it encrypted or should I get encrypted cards? Can the computer read AND write on the cards, or just read? Because if it can only read, would I need to buy another machine to write on it? How do I even use the card? Can it only read cards with chips... or maybe theres another kind of smart card? Can it read a credit card? etc etc etc... I called customer support, was a huge waste of time... Got connected to a sales guy who didn't know anything, then he transferred me to "technical experts" which I kid you not, asked me for basically all of my personal info down to my ADRESS (which I refused to give) and then after that was put on hold for 10 mins and the lady came back with EVEN LESS INFO on the card reader than the sales guy... "Yeah so its like a slot to put smart cards in it and it can be used to encrypt the computer. Large companies and the military use it." It was probably the same info I found online myself. Its honestly sad. Anyways, sorry for my rant haha, anyone think they can answer these questions for me? When the computer does arrive, I will be running a linux OS on it, (monjaro and maybe later on, bedrock linux).

I wanted to buy the X1 Extreme from Lenovo either the Gen 1 or the Gen 2 The Gen 2 was meant to come out in July and it did but only in the US shortly after they released the Gen 2 in the US the gen 1 was no longer customisable in the UK (don’t know about the US) The X1 Extreme Gen 1 was fixed at a certain spec and a really high price of £2400 (or something like that) I thought they where just going to slowly stop selling the Gen 1 in the UK to push the Gen 2 as the main laptop (which is unlike what they normally do with laptops). But now the Gen 1 has been taken off the website and all other UK websites have stopped selling the laptop, you can still find the page by manually putting in the URL, but its just the normal page without the price or the option to buy. So, I’m very confused by this all, There is no X1 Extreme Gen 1 being sold in the UK And the X1 Extreme Gen 2 seem to be not released yet in the UK So, I’m stuck what to do, with school fast approaching I need a new laptop, and the laptop range that i was going to get seem to have disappeared in the UK X1 Extreme Gen 1 link, UK https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/ThinkPad-X1-Extreme/p/22TP2TXX1E1?gclid=CjwKCAjwnMTqBRAzEiwAEF3ndtv6K5zH-cen6LENqv_8wnC3-Ccz6m8BH0Z1dTZkRvlvGCbqBy0LfhoC0cMQAvD_BwE&cid=gb:sem|se|google||*+ThinkPad+X1+Extreme+Exact+Match+Ad+Group|***+G+-+UK+-+Search+-+Commercial+-+Laptops+-+ThinkPad+X1+Extreme|2076148225&s_kwcid=AL!4309!3!372762745669!e!!g!!x1 extreme&ef_id=CjwKCAjwnMTqBRAzEiwAEF3ndtv6K5zH-cen6LENqv_8wnC3-Ccz6m8BH0Z1dTZkRvlvGCbqBy0LfhoC0cMQAvD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!4309!3!372762745669!e!!g!!x1 extreme X1 Extreme Gen 2 Link, UK https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/x-series/X1-Extreme-Gen-2/p/22TP2TXX1E2 Image attached is where the X1 Extreme is meant to be on the UK website and where it is on the US website Need help....

I have a QNAP WiFi AC2600 card. It has pcie x1 interface and works OK in a ocie x1 slot, but due to some other card installed, the latter blocks WiFi heatsink. There is another slot available in my motherboard where I have more space, but it is pcie x16 slot. From what I understood from Linus videos, my WiFi card should work just fine in that x16 slot, but it is not recognized. Any ideas how can I make it work?

Hello, I recently purchased and set up a new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3, (20TK001FUS) and the battery life has been awful. I had a ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2 previously, and the battery life was around 6-7 hours on average. With my new laptop I get around 2-3 hours on average. I had to completely reinstall Windows 10 right from the start in order to get my upgrade to Windows 10 Pro working. I am currently running version 2004. I normally prefer the Windows power slider (Lenovo Intelligent Cooling) to be in the middle (Better Performance) while plugged in, and just left of center (Better Battery) when unplugged. Both sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth found nothing wrong. Windows is completely up to date, there are no new Lenovo Vantage updates available, and every possible driver and piece of firmware I can think of is up to date. Since Microsoft removed some of the Advanced Power Settings, I manually added back in the option and lowered the percentages for Maximum Processor State. I would have undervolted the CPU, but this series of processor has been locked by Intel. Both the Intel and Nvidia control panel settings are set for best battery performance. I have disabled and reenabled the Nvidia GPU in Device Manager. Could this be an issue with the battery itself or some other hardware problem? The laptop appears to be in perfect physical and operational condition except for the poor battery life. My usage of the laptop has not differed in any particular way from before. What am I missing? Any suggestions for possible fixes is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Article: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/04/the-unpatchable-exploit-that-makes-every-current-nintendo-switch-hackable/ Tech writeup: https://github.com/reswitched/fusee-launcher/blob/master/report/fusee_gelee.md NVIDIA vulnerability notice: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4660 The exploit allows unsigned code execution. Researchers (read: hackers) were even able to even get Linux booted and run Dolphin. No specific confirmations yet but this is seemingly the gateway to a homebrew scene for the Switch.

This is not something that I must do, but it would be interesting to try it if it's possible. I have (see pics) a simple motherboard from Dell, which has two PCIe x1 slots, and one PCIe X16 slot. The second PCIe slot is hidden under the graphics card. Now, there is a "pad" for a second x16 slot, and I would like to know if it is possible to solder one in and make it work. Why? Because it might be fun, and it would allow me to use a flexible PCIe riser cable to install other PCI cards further down in the case (which would preserve the airflow on the GPU.) I was curious tonight and searched for a PCIe Thunderbolt 3 card, which I could not find in x1. The throughput for Thunderbolt requires at least a 4x slot. I know 4x accessories can be installed in empty x16 slots, so that led me to think about adding that second x16 slot on the board myself. I am confident in my soldering skills, but not too sure if it would be locked out by the BIOS anyway. Has anyone successfully added features to their limited boards? Am I just crazy for even thinking about this? Where would someone even be able to purchase the slot piece to solder in anyway? I would just buy another board and have the slot, but... Well, that will have to wait until I have the funds available to do that and get a retail copy of Windows 10 at the same time, which would also mean that I have to reinstall all my software... Something I do not feel like doing unless I absolutely have to. lol. Having Thunderbolt 3 isn't critical, because nothing really uses it yet, but it would be cool to have. Pics in spoiler.

Hi there, Jared again. I am emailing to ask if you could do a video where you test the same GPU on the various slots sizes, x1,x4,x8,x16. Compare the bottleneck of the different slots. I also would like to know if a titan in a x1 slot will give the exact same performance as a gtx 730 in a x1 slot and a ancient GFX card for example? Reason being that if you only have an x1 slot, you could still get better performance if you buy a better card or if its only worth while buying a card with x1 performance anyway. I would also like to see what happens if you SLI two cards in x1 and if you SLI two cards, one in x1 and one in x16. Although you have never acknowledge you have received my email, as always i would request you do, thanks

Hi, I got a lenovo X1 carbon touch on preorder, and I've had it for over a year. Recently, I've noticed that my screen has some unusual burn in issue. Whenever the screen is left on a certain image for long enough (around 5-10 minutes. Usually the taskbar or the top bar of windows), when switching to a new background, a rather apparent phantom image of the window will remain on the screen for a few minutes. Anyone know how to help? I have the top level, 2560x1440 screen.

Greetings! I'm looking forward to buy a gamepad, because i will destroy my keyboard if i will attempt once again to play the freaking platformers What i am looking for is: be wireless possibility to be connected via chord to charge up if possible - dualshock format, however, not a must As far as i red around the web, i didn't quite get, if Xbox One Controller or Dualshcok 4 can be connected wirelessly (via Bluetooth preferably, because making a wireless network is going to be a bit problematic). What i DON'T WANT to have, is some external receivers which are highly suggested on first 2-3 pages of google search. Money is not a big problem, however, would be nice to have it under 100 EUR.

Hey everyone, I just watched LTT's video on the limits of PCI-E lanes with 28 and 40 lane CPUs. Linus recommended checking the restrictions that some mobos might have due to limited lanes. So I checked the mobo I'm interested in, being the Asus X99-A, and found a weird thing. Here's what it says word for word in the specs: I checked images of the board and found that the USB3_E56 connectors are two of the rear USB3 ports which I don't really need considering all of my USB3s will be through front I/O thanks to the board's two USB3 headers. So the question I have is: Can I change it so that the USB3_E56 connectors are disabled allowing me to run dual graphics cards, will this be dealt with automatically by the board if I install a second card that wants all 16 lanes, or is something I'm stuck with? Would love to hear if anyone has had experience with this. Also I'm looking at MSI's X99 SLI plus board as it has nothing like this in the specs. Thoughts? Thanks!

I recently realized that running sli requires at least 2 PCIe slots running at 8x speed. This is a problem for me because I'm running a 780 Ti GHz Edtion and a OCZ Revodrive 3 X2 with a 4770K. Meaning if a add another graphics card my PCIe slots will be running in 8x 4x 4x which sli doesn't support. I'm thinking of moving the OCZ Revodrive to another x1 slot (I know it want be getting the full bandwidth requires for full performance), but I don't know if the x1 slots also slow down the larger PCIe slots. To do this I'll have to buy another motherboard with a different PCI configuration, as I'm also have the Creative sound blaster ZxR sound card and currently using the built in WIFI. So I would need a board which as 2 x1 slots and built in WIFI or a board with 3 x1 slots and buy a WIFI card, while still having space for sli. I have found some possible board but I need to know if the x1 slots will slow down the x8 and x16 slots or it will be pointless to buy the new motherboard. If not then I would have to upgrade to x99, which I'd rather not do as my current system is less than 6 months old and I'd have to replace more part at a much higher expense. The main reason I want to sli is because I'm using the LG 34UM95 (3440x1440) and I need the extra performance for some more demanding games and I would like to eventually triple screen when Nvidia supports Muti-resolution with 2 1440p monitors on ether side. My current system is CPU - i7 4770K @ stock speed RAM - 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400MHz MoBo - Gigabyte Z87X UD5 TH CPU Cooler - Enermax Liqtech 120X GPU - Gigabyte 780 Ti Ghz Edition @ 1215MHz with GPU boost 2.0 PCIe SSD - OCZ Revodrive 3x 2 480GB (OS and games are here) PSU - Be Quiet Dark Power PRO 10 850w Sound Card - Creative Sound Blaster ZxR Other storage - Samsung EVO 1TB WD Black 4TB OS - Windows 8.1 64 bit (I actually like this OS)
