Hello everyone! First time posting on LTT, so please excuse me if I miss anything. Recently I've decided that I would like to switch my web hosting provider as I am unsatisfied with my current provider - Namecheap. I've been using them for years, but over time their services have been degrading. The latest issue that has become "the straw that broke the camel's back" has been their email reputation - It has become absolutely awful, and I can no longer send emails to hotmail / outlook emails. I've checked my DMARC / SPF records and validated they are good; It appears that the Namecheap server IP address has been flagged by at least 1 spam list. I'm looking for a hosting provider that has the following services: Shared hosting I host multiple personal websites using PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL. I would prefer SSH access to be able to upload and execute PHP code on the server. Domain Registrar Ability to define custom nameserver's - I have a few domains configured with Cloudflare E-Mail Hosting Looking for the ability to create multiple email accounts with the registered domains, and setup forwarders + catch-all's I'm OK with the idea of splitting out my email hosting from my web hosting providers if needed. I've looked into using Outlook as my email provider but, IIRC, they're now only allowing you to setup 1 email per domain and no catch-all forwarders . Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I am creating my own business by myself that will involve selling products/services essentially. It won't be created for another 12-18 months, so now is all about planning. Below are some researched provided stats in order to assist with answering my questions (let me know if you need any more info). I have zero web development knowledge and will only have around £10K to initially launch the business, so want to avoid professional fees where possible. (Like hiring a web dev... for the moment). - So thanks for your free help in advance, lol. -Global website that would receive traffic from across the world. -The office address and hub will be based in the UK for the first year. -I would estimate around 100K visitors per month to the website after the first year of trading. -Payment methods would be the standard VISA, Mastercard, PayPal etc. However, a specialist third-party provider will be assisting me with this. 1.) Do domain extensions (.com, .co.uk, etc) serve any technical purpose other than its desired audience? - For example, lets say I was a well-known local bicycle shop and sold my bikes all across the country within the UK. I then wanted to create a website to receive more business across the country, so the shop would more than likely make the website with the '.co.uk' domain, over the '.com' (or others). - This is because if a UK visitor was randomly browsing for 'bicycles' on Google, they may be put off and not even buy from the website if it was a '.com' because they could mistakenly assume I was not UK based, even if the content on the website made it clear it was a UK company. Then, same case if it was flipped and it was a bike shop in the US; you wouldn't really buy from a bike shop with a '.co.uk' domain if you live in the States and was looking to buy locally. - My point being, the extensions are sort of geographical or focus on a specific audience (like .gov or .edu), but in terms of I.T, do the extensions have any differences and advantages? 2.) When creating an online business, I know the main domain extensions to obtain are the .com and .co.uk, but HOW important are the other ones? Any you would consider essential in obtaining? 3.) How easy is it to transfer a website from one 'provider' to another? - Apologies if I'm not using the correct terms... my initial website will be set-up using one of my countries free / fairly cheap and simple services. So things like Wix, Squarespace (lol), etc. So far, I'm leading to one called Shopify as a lot of my competitors are using this 'provider'. Lets say I create a website using 'Wix' or one of those^ services, but after a year or so, I will very likely need a more advanced website and would have the money for it... but how easy would it be to transfer the content of the webpages (links, images, payment processes, basically everything you can think of on a webpage) to another provider/host service? Any tips for long-term planning in this area? 4.) Quite hard to answer without knowing all the details, but if I wanted to create a website from scratch and in my vision (Probably around 50 pages), I would need someone to create the website and then I would just need to host it. Any idea, roughly or even just a range on how much this would cost? - As an average. (Nothing too technical, will be for buying / selling, customer can create their own account and view order history, about us, home pages, reviews, FAQs, a 3 - 5 videos showing products etc. - It will not have ads.) + feel free to provide any additional tips or info if you desire. Thanks again to anyone that can help with this. I really am set on doing this and need all the help I can get.

Purchased OVH Australian Server when I started my business. CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1245v5 - 4c/8t - 3.5GHz /3.9GHz RAM: 32GB DDR4 ECC 2133 MHz Disks: SoftRAID 2x2TB It's great to have an affordable on-shore server now but it kind of sucks knowing for the same price I could get the same server but with unlimited bandwidth and with 64 gigs of RAM. I really do hate Australia's internet. D:

Hi there, I’m building a 1gbit/s home server for basic NAS, media streaming and webhosting capabilities for up to ~10 concurrent users. The difficulty I’m facing is choosing the right CPU that’d both be able to handle peak loads and still consume as little power as possible when standing around doing nothing. Since the server will be hosted at home - it should be as silent and efficient as possible. Here’s a list of CPUs I’ve already taken a look at: AMD Athlon Pro 200GE AMD Athlon Pro 300U - unsuitable with socket

So I got a little html page I wanna host from my pc using WAMP server. I already setup my DNS and domain name and I just want to be able to view the page from without going to localhost, which defeats the purpose of hosting the site in the first place. Any help is appreciated. Here is a picture on what I'm talking about: http://imgur.com/a/rYuZj

Hi, I am looking for some decent hosting, not a dedicated managed server and not some space on an overloaded shared server with 10,000 wordpress websites clunking away on it. I had a hostpapa account, they were ok at 1st but then started to slow down lots. I had a 1&1 shared hosting account and their service and tech issues made me leave. I have used fasthosts but I think they are shait. I have used 123reg and godaddy and thought, hosting that my mother would buy I am looking for proper geek, web developer hosting, not IT illiterate big pictures in your face hosting whom boast about wordpress or some shait web builder tool they have (eg squarespace) I am currently with Vidahost, their "Cloud Hosting Unlimited Plan", £19.99 per month ex VAT, so about £240 per year with the 1 year free domain. Their plan is fine, I get unlimited space, bandwidth, mysql databases, php 5 to 7 (7 doesn't work correctly though - been waiting over 2 weeks on an issue with sessions and cookies I found on the server, but I don't think they care). So all the technical things a web developer like me needs are there. However the speeds of framework based php web projects I have with them can sometimes take up to 25 seconds to generate and then as the page streams down I can see images of dimensions 400x300 streaming in, now I know there is nothing wrong my end so I have a feeling they have overloaded the server with too many people and I just happen to be on the damn thing. I need a host that wont do this, that can give me decent php speeds, mysql query speeds and have 1/2 decent network connectivity, especially for £240 per a year! I am not expecting dedicated server performance from rackspace or something (£1,000+ per month), but I would like not to have my website hosted on a Samsung Galaxy S1. Essentials Unlimited domains/websites Unlimited mysql databases (or at the very least 3 per a domain) PHP 5.4 (essential), PHP 5.6 (essential) and PHP 7 (would be ideal to have) MySQL (essential) with remote access (essential) and PHPMyAdmin capabilities Don't care about email all will be forwarders Who would you recommend? UK Hosts or Hosting providers with UK based servers only please. Thanks D

So I'm trying to setup a friend of mine a user account / login and folder on one of my VPS servers where he can dump all his website files in and host it from, I currently have a working user account added for him but it has full system access and isn't restricted - He can browse the entire VPS file system and read everything. How would I go about making him have access to view and modify only a single directory and its sub-dirs, Like you get when you use a web host and have FTP access to your folder only? For example say the user account is "bob" and I want him to only be able to view and modify things in the "/var/www-bobs-site/" directory only, How would I go about setting this up as I have been browsing the internet for a while and read quite a few tutorials and guides without finding what I want to do here (It's probably me typing the wrong things in)... I already have the apache virtual host setup and ready, I just need to work out how to restrict his user account. The VPS server I am setting this up on is running Ubuntu Server 13.10 and for FTP we use SFTP. Are there any good guides out there to setting things like this up anybody knows of? Thanks for any help!

Hello, I couldn't figure out where this would go. I first thought Networking but I figured that was for hardware, not stuff like this. I apologize if I placed this in the wrong place @ mods/admins. Okay, I have been looking for a hosting site for a while now that is good (that doesn't share GoDaddy standards of "good"), cheap as I can get it and allows privacy off the bat. I keep getting referred to Squarespace but for the life of me I cannot find the answers to these questions; Does it secure my information against strangers? (anonymous information instead of my name) What are the prices? I'd hate spending 10$+ a month for shtako + privacy security. Can I buy a domain and host a forum on it? If the answer to the above is yes; is it possible to move a forum or site from another host to squarespace? If the answer is no; how do I install a forum software onto a domain? I also was suggested to look at 1and1 for the cheapest hosting that provides privacy off the bat, but I have never heard of this site so I'm a bit reluctant. The price, 12$ for 12 months, sounds real good right now. If neither of these sites fit my needs, do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks for reading! p.s No, it isn't a tech forum/website. It is going to be a small community for close friends and some other things.

What is a good free web hosting sevice?

Greetings everyone, Firstly, I apologize if this is posted in the wrong area. I require some advice about deploying a website that has been in development for some time now (i.e. Countless templates (custom and pre-built), optimizations, etc). I am a semi-noob programmer though I am very knowledgeable in terms of HTML, CSS, and Javascript, and less so with things like PHP, server/website administration, etc. Throughout countless videos I have watched, I have heard like don't run as root admin, .htaccess, etc. Yet I know absolutely nothing about any of those aspects. I usually research aspects such as these thoroughly, but conclusively get conflicting reports. So my question is there anything else I should really know before diving deep into this and run into trouble with attacks, hackers, etc? Additionally, I am considering the following to handle my web hosting, but feel free to suggest any good ones you know of: A Small Orange (ASO) FatCow HostGator NearlyFreeSpeech Site5 Thanks in advance, Mr. Cyborg
