Does anyone know what software LTT uses for ingesting their video to their server? You can see it in the background of this video at 6:49. I do a lot of video production at my job and I need a way to ingest and manage my Black Magic Raw files, so I figured id try to figure out what LTT uses. Thanks for the help!

Hi all! A small company in the Video Production industry is launching what they’re advertising to be the “world’s fastest SSD”. Many people are skeptical and I would love to know your thoughts. Is this a legitimate product or just “smoke”? Product page: https://tropiccolour.com/pages/osp-space-shuttle-ssd The company is “Tropic Colour”, which is backed by an entrepreneur named Jakob Owens. He owns a few other companies, all based around providing video production resources, and has somewhat of a polarizing reputation. These companies all rely on a very strong social media presence, and are making some very shocking claims on this new product. They’re giving it a fancy packaging and creating a bunch of hype around a product that doesn’t provide much in technical specifications. Tropic Colour have been very vocal on their Instagram marketing regarding this new SSD, and have been accused by many of just selling a NVMe SSD in a custom enclosure. Here are a few of their Instagram posts: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CrCUEjXgvR8/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/CryN3XvJWtu/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/reel/CsJ5XGcgVXJ/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Budget (including currency): £1000 for a motherboard, I just need it to work... Country: United Kingdom, Have a business account with Scan.co.uk so preferred its place to buy. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Video production, mostly VMix/OBS for work. Think streaming-style PC although running VR on the weekends Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Currently running Intel 13th Gen I5 13600K, 32GB DDR4 3000MHz (2x16GB), RTX 2060 (3070TI in the mail, very excited to upgrade), 1TB gen 4 NVME intel boot drive, 2TB NVME media drive, 8TB Archive drive (I have it set to backup to my NAS once a week) and a 750w Silverstone Gold PSU in a custom 4u server case. Hi all, long-time subscriber, OG Floateplaner but first-time real post I'm usually okay with PCs but having a little trouble and don't know if the product I want actually exists without having to get a bifurcation card... Since the pandemic, my workload has taken a shift and I'm getting more and more live-production video work so needed to upgrade my setup. Shifted from AMD (previously had 3600) over to Intel given the amazing performance and some pretty good deals on pricing, but seem to be running into some issues now I've upgraded my video I/O cards. I need to use a DeckLink 8K Pro (and potentially a DeckLink duo 2 as well), which uses a PCIE Gen3x8 interface, however, I am yet to find the motherboard which would actually support this alongside the graphics card. No issue running through the chipset as latency isn't that much of an issue given my workflow however I need a motherboard that can handle the electrical and physical connection. My current micro-ATX Asus board physically doesn't have the slot as when I bought the CPU I wasn't intending on upgrading to an 8K I/O card, however i doth think anything actually exists to do this on the platform. Am I wrong? I hope so... I really don't want to downgrade back to my 3600 so hoping to find a solution rapidly as I've got a gig on Thursday, budget isn't that much of an issue with reason, I just hope to find something. thnk you in advance. P.S. for ships and giggles I'm going to ask ChatGPT, will post they're answer down below

Budget (including currency): 1,200 - 1,500 USD Country: U.S.A. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop (for some light 3d modeling) It is time to let my six-year-old iMac 27inch go. It's been my workhorse for video and photo-production, but its 2021 limitations include slow render times, a worthless GPU, and slow RAM (just to name a few). Last year I left my job in TV to start my own independent video production company, which means my budget for a new computer is really only as much as I can get for selling my current mac (which is roughly 1,200-1,500). I know this is low, but I also have to keep some budget held back to replace the 27inch 5k monitor that I will be losing as well. It would be impossible for me to adequately replace my mac with another at that price point, so it's time for me to make the switch. However, this decision leaves me with questions that I absolutely cannnnnnnnot find answers too anywhere on the internet. Keeping in mind that my only goal is video production, this is a small list of some of my concerns. -Can a PC play and edit any of my Quicktime H264 or ProRes files? -Can a PC play any BlackMagicRaw footage recorded onto an OSX formatted SSD -Can I use or access any of my OS Extended Hard Drives on a PC (I.E. all of my prior footage and projects files... speaking of... -Can I open Premiere Pro project files, made on a mac, on a pc -I refuse to use Android phones, is this a problem? I'm not as worried about prior projects as I am my backlog of video files of which I have at least 15 Terabytes spread across multiple drives. Any information or suggestions on this would be helpful, I would love to hear from someone who made a similar switch. Also, any recommendations on a pc build that meats my needs and budget would be appreciated as well. For reference below I have added my current specs just as a comparison. Thanks! iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 3.5 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 24GB 1600 DDR3 AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2 GB

Hi I am in the market for a new laptop since the current one im using has been set ablaze (I have no idea how it was just in my backpack apparently not in sleep mode). Due to this it has given me reason to buy a new one that doesnt suck like the old one and doesnt crash everytime i click on davinci resolve. I prefer to have a slimmer model, but I would also like to have expandable RAM and storage. i know i cant have both but I am open to any suggestions given and will do some more research with recommendation given. Thanks in advance!

Okay guys I am actually debating which of the two processors I am going to get for overall productivity work. I do photo editing, video editing and exporting, and whole ton of class related works.I am also looking for cheap xeon processors (sandy bridge 2nd generation intel). I am also considering buying USED PRICES. And the 8 core 16 threads of the r7 1700 is very attractive with the things I want to do. But most people say that r5 3600 is the bang for the buck. But the thing is "I DONT DO GAMING OR STREAMING". Please help me out here.

Hello everyone! So my case is kinda strange I guess and I tried to look into on my own but didn't find any real solution to it. I am a musician and I have used an app called "Acappella maker" on my phone in order to record audio video and then it would just sync them together and extracting it all very easily. The thing is that the audio is really low quality and since I have a zoom h5 that can act as an audio interface I would have liked to know if there were any option to do the same on pc linking as well my phone(s9)/camera to the pc whitout having the trouble to sync the different parts everytime. I thought that it could exist a software that could take the feed from my camera and the feed from my zoom and sync them together and record them using the pc as a "medium" between the things. The reason why I don't simply link my zoom to the camera is that it doens't have an audio input. While recording I would need to hear a base track in order to know if I am on time and also I would need a previewto hear if all the voices sync up in the right way... IS there any magic software for my need? thaaaaaaaanks! EDIT: p.s. I saw syncaila software but that would be just for post production, am I right?

Hey y’all, So I literally just finished building this computer on the 23rd of April (Thursday) and I am planning on upgrading my graphics processor in a while. I really want to be better able to make music videos and construct 3D visual effects as well as diving into the awesome world of VR gaming. I don’t have thousands to spend on a new GPU but I would like to upgrade my graphics to something a little beefier than the GTX 1050 Ti that I’m currently using. I’m looking for a GPU in the $150-300 range, preferably something that can do VR fairly well or at least decently, planning on using an Oculus Rift S. I’m kinda shopping gently new or refurbished, since my budget is a bit low, but I could probably scrounge maybe $300-400 extra for a GPU that’s really decent. What would y’all suggest? My chassis can support a GPU up to 350mm in length. My PSU is a 650w and I’m currently using about 375w maximum on it and I have 2 spare PCIe power cables to work with.

My parts list (though I did not or am not buying anything from the listed stores, I don't live in North America) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fg9tRG Initial core components Parts newly purchased i7-6900K (new purchase, as listed in the list) Corsair CPU cooler (new purchase, as listed in the list) Asus Rampage V logic board (new purchase, as listed in the list) 64GB (4x 16GB) DDR4-2400 RAM (new purchase, as listed in the list) Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD for OS and Applications (new purchase, as listed in the list) Samsung 960 EVO 1TB SSD for active project and Flame store (new purchase, as listed in the list) 780T Case (new purchase, as listed in the list) ThunderboltEX III (new purchase, not in the list) Parts recycled from previous build nVidia Quadro M4000 GTX Titan X (Maxwell) 850W power supply (mentioned in the part list above) Extra red sleeved cables I had lying around Parts awaiting installment Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD for CentOS, there's some data on it that needs to be copied to another drive before installing in the new build. And a few smaller capacity SSDs taken out from older computers for temporary use. Items to be added/replaced in the future after purchase Quadro P5000 (2-way SLI) 2TB SATA III SSD's WD HDD's for local/direct archiving So my goal is to build a rig capable of (at least) 4K real time'ish editing in Autodesk Flame (Linux version). We already have one black cylinder Mac Pro that my fellow DoP is using and while I prefer OSX as my operating system of choice, I don't want to buy the black Mac Pro due to a few reasons: I want nVidia GPUs instead of the current FirePro D700. I want PCIe and SATA III (at least) expansion slots for additional storage instead of having to connect external Thunderbolt drives. I don't like AMD in general (which is why I picked a 6900K instead of a Ryzen). If Apple came out with a nVidia Quadro based Mac Pro in the future, I will strongly consider buying one. So I decided to build a new machine based on a few spare components lying around until I can acquire the ideal parts I need. From a previous i7-4790K gaming build, I had a spare Titan X (Maxwell) and since this new build will become the main editing workstation I decided to take the Quadro M4000 it had inside. Right now the old gaming/editing rig has only a single Titan X left. But I had to buy a new CPU, logic board, memory, etc. I had leftover red sleeved cables, not enough for everything. I initially didn't want to make the build stylish in anyway because my first choice for a case was a Define XL R2 (no windows, none of the interior visible). Since I had spare sleeved cables I decided to make it stylish instead and switched to the Graphite 780T. Since I was going for the 780T case, I considered making a RGB color build and using white sleeved cables so that the ambient lighting will give the white cables a color hue, but will be using the red cables for the time being until I find the time to order new cables and get RGB fans and additional lighting. Looking good is not the priority here, being able to use it for work is the priority. @scottyseng Here are a couple of photos of the completed (for the time being) build. In the second photo you'll also see a bit of our studio, still a work in progress to get it organized. The office and editing suites side is finished, the filming side is not. Since I didn't have enough spare red sleeved cables (which are leftovers from my previous build), I still have a lot of black stock cables in use. And the cables/stuff I can't change color are the CPU cooler water pipes, USB 2.0 header cables to attach stuff like the Corsair Link connection, the Thunderbolt header cable that came with the Asus ThunderboltEX III card, some fan cables. The Quadro M4000 is in PCIe slot 1 and is the main GPU, the Titan is below the Thunderbolt card, and is the workhorse GPU with all the extra CUDA cores and horsepower. I don't think I'll be using the included Asus SupremeFX Hi-Fi DAC for much longer, since I have an USB audio interface at one of my other offices that I will be bringing in to connect my nearfield monitors. The Asus DAC is currently sitting in the top 5.25" bay, with a DVD drive below it. The DVD drive is mainly for reading some old archives we have on disc.

Preface: First PC Build, am noob, send halp. 1. I'm looking to spend up to $2,000 US 2. The system will be used for digital audio workstations/music production (Digital Performer 9, ableton, MAX MSP, Cuebass) and to store the sound libraries for those programs. It will also be used for video editing and gaming..of course. 3. I plan on using 3 monitors, I don't need anything too over the top as far as resolution, 1080 is fine, but I would like the color to be quality. 4. I have the mouse and keyboard I need, but would be in the market for some studio reference speakers and a DAC. 5. I'm building this because I'm graduating from college and I'm used to having access to pretty good computers to do work on and I will need my own to work now that I have graduated. *I prefer intel and I'm willing to go a bit over the budget to have a quality system. I'd also like it to run as cool and quiet as possible. Many thanks!

I am trying to find a way to stabilize my slider on a tripod. I can't seem to find a way to get my slider off the ground and not have major tilting when my camera rig slides over the the far left or right. A slider is almost useless if you can only slide with the 10in. in the middle. Any creative ideas?

Hi all, I am currently moving into an office, which I will be using to edit videos for a podcast I am taking over production of, I have a budget of £400 ($530), to build a editing machine that can handle 1080p editing, I do not want SSD's in it, but large HDD's, to save money. Could someone put a list together for parts? I can build a PC myself, as I have built my gaming PC, but I want to have specs that I know will be able to edit 1080p video in Adobe Premiere Pro 2017, and also be able to render videos quickly in After Effects. Thanks Lewis.

Hey Guys! Long time reader, first time poster. Looking for some server help. I work at a video production company that’s rapidly growing. Think LMG ~2014/5. We actually went to school with some of the editors there. We are trying to upgrade our storage systems as we move into a larger facility. We currently run a supermicro FREENAS server with 12 3.5 hard drives of 4 TB each. After raid we have about 40 TB of space. Currently it is not wired into any sort of network infrastructure. With the exception being a single laptop with 1G ethernet directly from the server. We use this to load our SSDs we edit off off. It’s slow. We are wondering what the best way to upgrade this to a multi edit situation would be. Would the best bet be 10G ethernet out of the server directly to the workstations? Would our server be fast enough? It has 12 cores I believe. There would be times when the sever needs to be accessed by multiple people at the same time would that be okay? We would also also like a computer that can render tasks remotely. I have played around with using a Ryzen 1700x we have already, and running VMs with Adobe Media encoder and Lightroom open for exports. This would be linked to the server for the files. Is is there a way to have the server do this. I couldn’t find a way in freenas. Do I need unraid like 7 gamers one cpu? Finally, we are also setting up a off site backup. This right now is just a Windows i3 with a varriety of drives in JBOD. The plan is to have it remote in to the server and compare what’s new and copy it over the Internet. Not sure about how yet. Any advice there is welcome. I have also seen the LTT videos they have done on there storage system. Though I’m not super clear on the total config. We would rather not spend the money on a storanator 45 drive though that would probably be ideal as they make it look easy. We bought our server for $700 no drives off eBay for reference. Any advice is welcome! Thanks from Vancouver Canada!

Hi all, I need some advise on which of these two microphones would be better? Will be doing a project and need something good. The microphone will be hooked up directly to the GH1(via adaptor), and yes I know, people have suggested to get a pre-amp for better audio, but I think in general it should be fine for what we are doing and pre-amps cost way too much here, even used ones. Any user experiences/inputs also will be greatly appreciated! Sorry if I take a while to reply, it's Christmas after all. Thanks for the replies & Merry Christmas!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, so sorry in advance. I had the idea of the production staff of LTT doing a series on how they do things like set up their cameras and wire hosts for sound in detail. I know they do some of this but i would like to see more because I am currently a student and should know how to do most of it in theory... but don't have the resources or the caliber of equipment that LMG has. its just a thought so... yah, have a nice day.

I've got a quick question. I recently got our YouTube channel past 1,000 subscribers (real estate business), I've definitely gotten better at the editing side of fairly simple video production. However, one area that I need to improve on is lighting. I'm curious about the lighting that is used in the LTT videos which always look amazing. I guess specifically I'm wondering what the types of lights are that Linus used in a semi-recent video where he updated his at-home streaming setup. He was using some pro lights that looks like florescent lighting tubes (not the Elgato flat lights). I took a screenshot which is attached. Anyone know what models of lights these are? They seem to be relying on bouncing the light off the ceiling and walls of the room to create a diffused look. Any other general lighting advice is also more than welcome. Thanks!

Budget (including currency): $3500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I am a video editor and audio producer for a living. I need a rig that can easily handle editing 2k video footage at minimum, and that won't start chugging on me when I'm working with a lot of layers. I heavily use Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition for work. I will also be gaming on this rig, and it would be great to be able to play the latest games at great performance & quality. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Lots of hard drive space is important, and I'd really like to run a high-capacity SSD as the boot drive. I'm going to be buying soon - within the next week or two ideally. I plan to run three monitors. This will be my first-ever build, so I'm a little nervous. I've been watching LTT for a while now and I feel like this is my best path forward for my work. Thanks in advance!

Working on a simple production set-up for a high school. I have 3 stations(audio, graphics, & technical director) and most of the gear is rack mountable. Attached is the base look. Gear to buy: (Links fixed) Gear on hand: This whole set-up allows for 4 cameras, anchors, and game data to wire in to a patch panel and can output 1080i60 to SDI for TV broadcast, NDI for backup, and normal YouTube streaming. I want to attache the small carts to the sides of the large cart so it moves as just one big unit. I am looking for some input before buy the final parts... With how things are going we wouldn't be using this until Nov/Dec due to sports being on hold meaning I have until the end of September to buy everything.

Hi All: I am helping plan a video production class at the high school I will be attending next year, and we will need editing stations. I would like to have setups that would have good flexibility and be able to be upgraded in the future. Our main tasks are probably going to be: Video Editing Using After Effects Hopefully some more advanced 3D CGI/compositing stuff with tools like Autodesk Maya etc. Rendering and exporting projects from above software No Gaming. We will not be doing any overclocking of displays, GPU's, CPU's, RAM, or anything else you can overclock. We want stability and reliability, not flashy gaming stuff. Overall, I was thinking of getting an E5 Xeon processor, since you can use them with ECC RAM, as well as you can use them with 2 CPU's, if we ever need to in the future. For RAM, I was thinking of getting 32 GB of cheap Kingston or other stuff, nothing fancy, no ECC. For GPU, I was thinking of getting a middle of the line GeForce GPU, since we don't need the fancy features of a Quadro, as well as their cost being ridiculous, and since we won't need 10-bit color. I mainly want CPU suggestions on for the tasks above, or at least guidelines on what would be best suited to the above tasks (more cores, less cores, higher clock speed, etc.)

Hi all, I was curious if you think I would be allowed to use a still from the old kitchen set as a background on my upcoming videos? I'm currently starting out so I cannot create a good set right now, so I have been using a green-screen instead to replace it with white to a slight gradient of grey. Anyhow, any input on this would be great - if a member of the team can reply too, that would be outstanding! For the still in question; here it is: http://imgur.com/a/vwakR Sincerely, Aidan

Hey Guys, We posted our blog on here yesterday for discussion of our latest article "How to Tune a NAS for Direct-from-Server Editing of 5K Video". You can check out the blog here if you haven't already: http://45drives.blogspot.ca/2016/05/how-to-tune-nas-for-direct-from-server.html (thanks everyone for their feedback, too!) We also wanted to post this video of our first of many user spotlights featuring video production studios as we help them tackle the pain of video production storage. Feel free to check out the video here: We have worked with @LinusTech over the last couple years assisting with his media storage pains and we wanted to feature some more. With that being said, there are some video production professionals on here that we would love to hear from. A). What do you guys think is the biggest pain of media/post production storage today? B). Where do you think the solution is? Or, how have you solved it in the past? Would love to hear from you. Thanks,

So I want to make my own Diy Render Farm using multiple cheep computers running in Paralel. My problem is the following 1. What programs do I use for achieveing this? 2. What operating system do I put on the Multiple computers Running In Paralel. 3. How do I run the computers in paralel, how do I set it up. 4. How do I make it as symple as sending my render project over the network to my render farm. For exampel I have my main desktop and I want to send a project to the render farm where it rendrs it then sends the final render back to my pc. 5. What hardwhare peramiters are there, is there a certin type of cpu or whatever or all just all the same computers. For example The computers runing in paralel, Do they all need to have the same haredware and stuff or can they be mixed and mashed? 6. Is there anything else I can do with this render farm? 7. What else am I not thinking about, or what am i missing. Thansk for reading this and I realy hope I get some help doing this.

vs. So in a recent post over on New builds & planning (which you can find here), I had a lot of comments suggesting I supplement in the Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Strix I'd chosen with an AMD r9 390 model. The thinking seemed to be primarily around the idea of getting more bang-for-buck with the AMD as it came with 8GB of on-board GDDR5 RAM, opposed to the 970 that comes with 4GB. The two main things that are putting me off taking this advice is that; 1) The 970 I found is almost £100 cheaper than the average price of the 390s I've come across, and 2) The driver support for the AMD GPUs still lack behind the support for big title games (such as GTA V) as far as I know. What do you guys think? Am I wrong in worrying about the support & performance of the cards? Do you have another suggestions for a better card of a similar price? Cheers all, J

THE BUDGET I'm working off a £900-1000 budget at the moment (or USB$1400-1700 / CAD$1800-2000). This budget doesn't include peripherals or non-OS software, as I'm keeping my existing set of kit in order to minimise my initial cost to this project. THE AIM The goal here is to create a 5-year system - one upon which I can continue to upgrade & build upon to meet the increasing demands of my professional software (such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, RAW Photo Editing, and Cinema 4D), as well as maintain an ability to run AAA titles at 1080p resolution and still be able to hit (or exceed) 60fps. The final build will be a minimal, well cable-managed solution, with definite (but subtle) red highlights from sleeved cabling, on a black surrounding, with silver accents from the RAM modules. I plan on expanding past the list of components below (in particular, with the addition of a more powerful GTX 980 Ti - or possibly two, in SLI - later next year), in order to match my evolving workflow needs, especially in CUDA based operations. THE PARTS These parts are the result of almost 20 hours of researching component prices online & one the forums reading up on other builds, as well as responding to your feedback in my other posts. They may be replaced with other, better parts over the next 12-18 months as my budget increases, but for the initial build out, here is the list: CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£177.00 @ Amazon UK) CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i GT 113.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (£96.41 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: Asus Z97 PRO GAMER ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£99.99 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£64.98 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£73.13 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card (£260.37 @ Amazon UK) Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case (£136.21 @ Amazon UK) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£63.31 @ Amazon UK) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM (64-bit) The full PartPicker list can be found here, if you want to check out when I updated components down the line. While not included in this parts list, I am also going to be making use of the Corsair Sleeved PSU & SATA Cable bundle (in the red/black colour scheme) for my main cabling needs. THE REASON I'm switching back to PC, after almost 5 straight years of using a Mac as my daily driver. My most recent machine was a heavily upgraded, and thoroughly worn-out Mac Pro. However, after two new graphics cards, and over a dozen new RAM modules in the last 4 years, I'm switching back to PC to achieve maximum performance-to-pound ratio. This will also be my first from-scratch PC build in almost 6 years, and quite honestly, I'm super excited to actually get my hands in-and-on new components again. THE REST So as this is going to be a potentially drawn out build, as I'm unsure when certain components can be obtained / delivered, I'll likely update this thread with pictures & any issues I run into along the way.
