System specs listed in the IObit Sysinfo Report.html file . I have a weird issue. I bought a Seagate Desktop 8TB External Hard Drive HDD – USB 3.0 a few years back and it started to have bad sectors, so I ordered another one and replaced it. After a few months of usage this error started to pop up in the Event Viewer: The IO operation at logical block address 0x0 for Disk 4 (PDO name: \Device\00000051) failed due to a hardware error. I contacted Seagate and got a RMA and have have had this drive since March 9 2023, two days ago the errors started to appear again. The weird thing is that I am on new Motherboard and CPU, and fresh install of Windows 11, this error does not appear on other computers. Crystal Disk Info shows no errors and the drive works fine other than that error. It also seems that the errors start if I boot with the drive’s USB plugged in, if I plug the drive in after boot the errors don’t appear. I don’t think the drive is failing, any ideas? ****UPDATE: Seems to be an issue with any external drive plugged in to usb *** ****UPDATE: So just had 2 different usb HDD plugged in, I rebooted and only one caused the error in the event manager, I unplugged that one and kept the one that this post was talking about plugged in, rebooted no errors, maybe it fixed itself, maybe I have usb port issues? Hello guys, I have a Toshiba 750gb external hard drive that I bought 8 years ago. I built a pc some years ago on an extremelly limited budget and I removed the hard drive form its external enclosure and converted it into an internal. I dont remember if this was my boot drive or if it was secondary. Now I later purchased a higher capacity hard drive and put that to be internal , and tried to convert the toshiba drive again to an external. ( i kept the enclosure and the circuit adapter that it connected to ) But when I reassembled the enclosure with the drive and plugged it into my computer all kinds of problems occured. I have to note here that I didnt reformat anything I used the drive as it was.. ( I guess a big mistake but i wasnt that experienced , not that I am now ) So now , I want to recover the files that are inside , nothing overly important, a 2000 song file collection etc. Also it is a USB3.0 drive , when i use a 3.0 port I get blue light from the circuit board and the driver isnt showing up, sometimes for no reason it gets into USB2.0 mode and it behaves similarly ( with some minor differences ) to when I connect it to a usb 2.0 port: When I open "This Pc" the disk is assigned as E: and doesnt show size or any info, I get the green loading bar on the location path, but it loads vert slowly , after it loads the disk dissappears from the devices and drives tab, and sometimes i get a message from windows that the usb device isnt recognized etc. When I try to just access the properties of the disk the properties window crashes. I tried using the Eassos Recovery Program, but even that becomes unresponsive after just selecting the disk for recovery, in the case that the program works eventually and i try to recover data either the disk dissapears again in the procces , or it show that it is scanned and that there are no files to be recovered. Mostly it likes to crash. Using the cmd and the command chkdsk /f E: there have been 2 instances , one i get that the file system is NTFS but the ntfs boot sector is unreadable or corrupt, OR I get the info that I provide with the screenshot below..( I searched for the error codes on Google but didnt find anything ) Using the disk managment tool , when using 3.0 driver shows up as RAW file system, when in 2.0 port the disk managment program crashes. Now I have been thinking that maybe if I use a new circuit-adapter ( sata to usb essentialy ) maybe will solve the problem. But I am no expert and I would like your opinion and if theres a more available solution right now. Thanks in advance for any help

Recently I bought a 256GB SanDisk USB for $30USD(on sale) and naturally the first thing i did was to plug it into the nearest computer to verify the capacity. To my shock all i had was 232GB! 24GB lost to ...what? Naturally, i contacted the seller and asked him wtf was going on? and he told me this from what i can understand the seller is saying the USB reserves a little space for itself. The 32GB memory card example makes a lot of sense except why is THERE 24 GIGS MISSING? A USB doesn't NEED 24 GIGS right??? Then he Sent me a link to this calculator thingy that's supposed to tell you how much capacity you would ACTUALLY have http://www.endmemo.com/data/diskcapacity.php Is this normal? Should i get a Refund? i would like your opinion

Hi everyone, hope y'all having a good day!. I will be going straight on point. So, I have a 32gb hp USB Drive. I had used it for 1 year with no issues. This usb was mainly for installing windows. I formatted usb drive with rufus (rufus can be used to format and create bootable USB flash drives or Live USBs) and I was going to install a fresh newer version of windows. After it formatted my usb since then I'm unable to access my usb drive for some reasons. Can anyone help me out. I have attached some of the screenshots of usb's properties. There could be something that I don't know/haven't described so you can have a look at the screenshots and help me troubleshoot it.

SORRY ABOUT THE TITLE So today I was repairing a USB drive when I realised this! I'm really stranged out about this. I got my multi meter out and tried to see if it was some sort of metal... Of course I couldn't really tell as copper is very low reactive metal. Do you think this could be part of the circuit board? I need geniuses please!

I have had this Corsair Voyager 128gb flash drive for a couple of years now. Very minimal use, I used it as a backup of a backup for important files. Recently, it stopped registering in any machine I plug it into. The LED will flash like the drive is being read for a couple of seconds, then go into a slow pulsing mode as if the drive is in sleep mode. About 2/50 times I plug it in and out of a machine it will actually read. When this happens, I can view the file directory and see all my data. But when I try to open one or two files the drive will crash and go into the sleep mode. What are my options in terms of recovering this data? Thanks!

I've got a brand new Patriot Rage Elite 128GB pendrive and I can't use it. It had been working fine until I connected it to my laptop. For the first time the pendrive was working fine, I could copy files from it and to it, format it etc. On the second time I connected it to the laptop it suddenly became write protected and it changed it's icon and name and file system to RAW. I tried to format it / remove write protection via windows option, windows safe mode and cmd with diskpart and "X:\>format X" command, hp format tool, hard disk low level format tool, regedit, finding my pendrive's PID and VID and looking for repairing tool didn't help either because I couldn't find any tools for my USB drive. I've no idea what to do.

Hello I have a Samsung 840 SSD which I salvaged from my old laptop, sadly I have no room for it in my new laptop as I have 2tb HDD and 960gb SATA SSD in there. But I just came here from watching a couple of LTT videos and it got me thinking. As USB type C can transfer at 10Gbps and SATA3 is limited to 6Gbps, the videos said that SSD capabilities surpass SATA's capabilities, the latter being the bottleneck. So if I put my SSD into a USB Type C enclosure, do you think it will be possible to get faster than SATA3 read/write speeds? My thought process is that although the interface of the drive is still SATA, it isn't transferring data through an on-board SATA connection, it is connected via USB, and I got the impression that the on-board SATA is what caused the bottleneck in transfer speeds. Thoughts? Thanks

Hey folks, so... I have this USB drive that I used to install ArchAnywhere a week ago. Now I noticed it was only 64MB (although it's 32GB...). Formating doesn't work in Windows, Ease US worked... somewhat. Now, look at my screenshot. Those 7.88MB - can't extend the other partition to it, can't do anything with it - it's not mountable. And that prevents the entire drive from being mounted now. What can I do about that? Cheers, John

Hey guys, I am currently having problems with two of my USB drives, cause my Pc doesn't recognice them. I opened one and saw taht there was a pin not connected so i conected it. In the device manager it says "error loading devide description" (Not exact message, translated from German). I tried everything i could from searching for drivers and I also tried to get the Hardware ID, but there it says USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE. Also I tried to search for it in the Disk Management, but there it isn't listed either. All the problems listed are on all computers I tested the same and I tested the problem on 2 computers. I attached some files, but they are in German so I don't know if it helps. If u need more information just ask. Thanks in advance,

So a Friend bought a LaCie Porsche Design Encrypted Hard Disk Drive, when he set it up as his backup he wrote down the password, this password no longer works and from the methods I have seen on the web for removing the password from the drive. None of them work and I was just wondering if I could get any help with more input, I can tell you whatever you need to know if further info is required. - Kiran Forrest

So I got a new usb (Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3), and I wanted to transfer some songs just to see it workin, and it's great, it gets going....aaaannd it goes down to zero. I'm thinking ok, some problem with windows, maybe some file was corrupted or something, it will just continue...but no, for the whole transfer it gets up to like 20 MB/s and then just drops to zero again, and goes up, you get the point. Now I saw some post online complaining about the same thing and it was also a similar kingston usb, so maybe it could just be that it's a shitty usb, but since I don't wanna believe that...not yet, I wanna ask you guys for help, thanks to anyone who answers.

This is probably a very basic question, but here goes. I run a very small business, and commute to different places to run courses at different venues. I work on my gaming pc, a laptop, and a little rig I built. They all run Windows 10 home edition. I have a 200+gb USB drive that I would like to use to carry data to and from courses if required, and to store my company data on so that I have all the files in one place (and backed up somewhere else for latency). Can anyone please recommend a good reputable, and affordable, method of encrypting the USB drive so that I am GDPR compliant? TIA

I purchased an Sandisk Extreme Pro 256GB. I need to find out what my product's serial number is in order to register it. However, there are 3 different codes on the back of the USB drive. I can't decipher which one is the serial code: Character (or letter): C Integer: I Minus sign (or hyphen): - 1.) CCCCIII-IIIC 2.) CCIIIIIIIIIC 3.) CCCC-CCC-CCC-CCCCIII Maybe, if you already own a Sandisk product and have already figured it out so you can help me. ? ^^ Thank you very much! I really need this.

so i bought 100 8gb usb sticks, and the transfer rate is super slow(2-3mb/s) so when you get past 100mb all the files get corrupted so i went to a "data recovery center" in my country with one to see if they could help. so i dont know how he did it but now it works. the transfer rate is still very slow but the whole 8gb are fine no corrupted data i would do it with all them but the truth is the service is too expensive for all the usb sticks he said something about the raw partion in them if that gives you guys a clue the sticks were ment to be a gift for a giveaway in a local mall im organizing and now im stuck with a whole lot of dead usb drives, i really need the help the event is next month currently i cleaned the disk with diskpart and atempting to fromat to see if that helps. sorry for any grammar errors english is not my language. any ideas what could be the problem?
