  1. Hello, everyone. I'm suggesting a theoretical way to enhance the performance of gaming laptops that do not support Optimus. I got inspired when I saw a video on YouTube where a person repurposed an old laptop screen and connected it to a laptop via the HDMI port. We know that we can bypass Optimus when we connect an external screen via the HDMI port or sometimes the USB Type-C port. The theory is, since we can connect a laptop monitor using HDMI, why not connect the existing laptop screen to the HDMI port? It's like creating our own version of Optimus without the need for another screen. In theory, this could potentially provide a 10% to 20% boost in gaming performance. I don't possess the necessary skills to carry out this project, but I believe someone can. Perhaps adding a physical switch would be a good idea to activate this feature. Does anyone have any ideas or further insights regarding this theory?
  2. A local networking noob here, I'm looking for some help securing my network. The end goal is to have each of the circles independent but still have access to internet. I'm not asking to be hand-held, but rather just to point me in the right direction. Current details outlined as below. The graphic is as precise as I could manage from the first time using Cisco's packet tracer tool. The main router Wireless Router 0 does not have vlan support. This is why I piped most of it through Switch0 which is a layar 2 switch (i'm Willing to buy a new wifi for the house, but I don't want to bite the bullet until I know what I need). The devices with PTP and PTMP tags are Ubiqiti Nano stations with (as far as I know) vlan support. The ellipsis on the left and right tags Gramps and NAYAR3 are daughter networks that are the reason this post exists. I don't want them to have access to anything outside of their spheres. The two trunk? tags are optional, but as they span a fair amount of physical distance, I would prefer to be able to troubleshoot them from at home. And so, I know enough networking to be dangerous, but I don't have the know how to finish. Would any of you mad gurus be able to point me in the direction I need to be pointed? My suspicion is that I will need vlans, but I have 0 experience to build it up home network.pkt
  3. the first HDDs were the size of refrigerators with platters 16 inches across modern hard drives are all 3.5 inches or smaller What if we took everything weve learned about manufacturing hdds and applied it to older form factors? Like for example if we made 5.25 drives with modern manufacturing processes we could get monstrously high storage capacities at the cost of physical size im sure there are plenty of datacenters and digital archives that would have niche but lucrative use cases for such a drive
  4. With ryzen growing closer and closer, leaks become greater and greater. Lastest leaks like this one https://www.techpowerup.com/230227/amd-zen-cpu-complexes-indivisible-dont-expect-6-core-ryzen-report suggest that ryzen will more then likely come in 8c/16t, 8c/8t and 4c/8t models. This i find just very bizzare as it makes the 4/8 and 8c models basically the same, though 8 cores are faster than a quad core with 4 smt threads. But still doesn't make too much sense with there possibly being a large price delta between the chips. Reading into ryzen more, it seems like the chips are made of two 4c modules, at least for the high end chip, obviously the 4 core model only being 1 module. This is where my theory comes in. It is is possible we could see a 8c/12t processor. Now this does sound really odd, but it is possible. Since ryzen features two 4 core modules, one module could be fully featured with SMT to form a 8c/12t model which would compete with the 6800k which would make a lot more sense then a flat 8 core model. Now i fully understand that ALL OF THIS should be taken with a grain of salt and may or may not be true but it was just a thought that i had, one for all of us to ponder over in the commets, none of this is conformed so dont take this like i am telling the truth. But leave a comment below telling me what you think
  5. I need help going over a past exam and would appreciate any help I can get from anyone who has taken any proof-based Graph theory courses. If anyone thinks they know enough Graph theory to help, please respond/PM me. @Dash Lambda I know this isn't the usual diffeq question, but do you by any chance know someone who has taken a graph theory course?
  6. Hey guys, I bet y'all've been watching the Computex coverage, right? Well, after thinking about how this whole threadripper design looks, i propose a theory: Threadripper is 2 standard ryzen CPUs in some form of Crossfire-ish tandem thingy. Just look at the socket. Also, it has 2 8-pin EPS connectors. And finally, it has a TDP of like 380 watts or something. No CPU draws that much. Unless, it's not one CPU. However, we will have to wait until someone actually obtains and delids one, but I thought this would be a fun thing to bring up. Thanks for reading y'all, Ivan
  7. Hey guys! I recently exchanged a few comments with @AlexTheGreatish in the comment section on the floatplane video about the 10.000RPM fan. We talked about modeling CPU coolers, and neither of us was quite sure how to predict heatpipes properly. In the end I found citations mentioning that they behave roughly like conductors and are in the range of 1.5-5 W/K for small heatpipes like in the typical tower cooler. Now I want to collect data on it, especially the accuracy. I did the maths and the experiment for my CPU and cooler a few times and find that my cooler reaches about 85% of its theoretical limit. So now I have made an excel table that does all the maths for you, als also gives a predicted temp, so that you can use it to estimate whether or not a cooler is enough for a given CPU. I'd be extremely greatful, if you could fill in the cells with grey background for your coolers and cpus (AI suite gives CPU power draw, fan speed and temp in one place) and post the performance in % here in the thread, ideally for idle and load. Mine are between 80-85% for load and 90-92% for idle. Here is a google doc you can copy to your drive EDIT: -replaced excel download with google sheets link -added thermal compound
  8. Hey all I apologize right now for the noob questions, and the likely hood of some very stupid sentences. Im taking a few networking papers at uni, but there seems to be a lack of real world examples of networking, and we are getting alot more theory based work. Meaning I feel like I am missing out on some key points on designing a network and best ways of doing things. Im not sure if this is the best place to ask, so feel free to tell me off, or move to another section, but I have a example network in my head, and I was wondering if I could get some help understanding a few things. Firstly network design You have a public and private network, so guests can use the internet, but dont have access to internal servers and such there is also a management network which an admin can use to access routers / switches / servers etc and manage them, (security purposes in my head) and a security network with cameras, and / or other security devices. To me, you break this into different subnets and vlans, to keep all the traffic separate, for EG 192.168.10.x - Vlan 10 - Guest 192.168.20.x - Vlan 20 - Private 192.168.30.x - Vlan 30 - Security 192.168.40.x - Vlan 40 - Management Now from class, I know you put a router in at the top which you can use to route the networks to the internet, as well as each other, with security procedures in place EG. only authorized computers can access the security network to monitor it. and the guest network cant go back down into the private network. But this is where things get a little lost on me, and I could do with some discussion and clarifications. DHCP - To me there are 3 ways of doing this 1) Put a separate dhcp server on each network which serves only that network 2) Put one dhcp server with multiple NIC's (or virtual nics) serving all networks, as I know dhcp is offered based on the interface subnet it came from 3) Put one dhcp server on either the management network, or another "servers" network, and add DHCP helpers to the router to forward on dhcp requests. Which of these is better, and what are the pro's and cons of each. and is there another way of doing it which I dont know about. DNS - Similar sort of deal to the DHCP, (This is for internal dns, not external) Can you add one DNS server at the top, and do DNS forwarding, similar to the DHCP helper, and if so, how does it work or do you need to add a DNS server to each network, either a separate one per network, or one with multiple connections in and out. and finally, this is a thought I keep coming to when thinking about this all, and how it all works together Lets say I have a file server available on the network. I want the security network to access part of it to store surveillance footage on, part of it to be open to the private network for people to store files on, and part of it to be open to both the pubic and private network so a guest can drop a file on, and someone can access it from a internal pc. I know the easy and obvious option would be, just use 3 different file servers, but what if there is only space or budget for one large one. I know you can do the option of having multiple network cards, one per network, and setting up the file structure to bind to the interfaces. but doesn't that open up to security risks, having all three networks combining at that point. As well as this I keep going to the DNS for it. Say your internal network is abc.local. Your computers get named based off this. PC1.abc.local, printerA.abc.local and I assume your guest devices also get named, Guest1.abc.local If you give your file server files.abc.local, how does the dns work for it. if an internal pc accesses files.abc.local, it will look it up in the dns records and find 3 different ip's for it Guest, Internal and Security. Does it only return the one based on the IP from which the requst came, like DHCP does. or do you need to separate out the dns zones For eg internal.abc.local, security.abc.local, guest.abc.local So your devices will be named PC1.internal.abc.local, Cam1.security.abc.local, GuestLaptop.guest.abc.local and your file server will get Fileserver.internal.abc.local, fileserver.security..... etc Sorry if alot of this doesn't make sense, it doesnt to me and I feel like im making connections in how it works in my head, which don't work in the real world. Which is why im asking for some advice and clarifiation. Thanks in advance for any input Tom
  9. Kabylake or Zen mighty becoming early January 2017 release! (Not 100% confirmed its a theory) I was watching a video from paul's hardware, his $1000 Balanced Gaming PC! - Dec 2016 Monthly, Build to be more exact, when I noticed him saying "pretty good chance that I'm not actually building the system due to some upcoming stuff at the very end of December and the beginning of January, that I can't really talk about yet." (Timestamp: 1:29+) So I thought about what could be so big that it would stop a whole build, at first I thought new a GPU but can't be right they just released the 400 series and 1000 series couple months back, then I thought about the CPUs, that's where I got idea of the release of kabylake or zen could be very soon. in my opinion, I think its probably going to be KabyLake going be released due to the frequent leaks and the amazon India listing and it not being the biggest update or a new architecture released the date of release maybe or going be around 7th of January 2017.(guessestimates) SOURCES Amazon India, Intel's 7th Generation Page!
  10. Disclaimer: I am not a scientist, an engineer, or even a college graduate. I’m just a dude who likes to experiment with stuff. With that out of the way, I have some theories on motherboard orientation in relationship to cooling that I’d like to discuss before I begin hacking up cases in order to explore them further as I take an old 9590FX and attempt to keep its temperatures low under stress in the coming months. Now with custom cases there are technically more than the 4 orientations I will be discussing, but for the sake of argument and my sanity, I’ll only be focusing on Left Mount, Right Mount, Top Mount, and Bottom Mount. Left And Right Mount are the traditional desktop orientations. Left Mount will be power supply at the top of the case while Right Mount will focus on bottom mounted power supply. Bottom mount is traditional test bench mounting with the bottom of the motherboard also being at the bottom of the case. Will also see if the Left/Right Mount put on its side produces similar results. Top Mount would be mounting the motherboard in an inverted fashion. Simply for the sake of completeness and a few theories regarding subzero cooling. Gravity might make GPU mounting an issue here so additional supportive elements could be necessary. Opening theory and predictions. Left Mount: will be slightly more efficient than Right Mount due to hot air naturally rising and having an easier escape route. Right Mount: will be marginally less efficient in overall case cooling, but not so much as to offer significant performance increases. Top Mount: will be the worst cooling solution except in cases of subzero cooling attempts. Obviously having the CPU and GPU heat rise back through the motherboard is a terrible idea and will lead to circuit degradation on the motherboard. However, when observing temperatures below 0 degrees, having condensation be unable pool around the cooled areas and instead drip down in to a catch tray could yield significant advantages. Bottom Mount: I anticipate this will be the best position for cooling. Given that simply forcing cool air in from the bottom while letting the hot air be forced out through the top should be relatively simple. It is also the only mounting orientation where the heat from one component will not rise in to another component, but the actual heat transfer between components remains to be seen.
  11. This has probably already been tried, but if you have a really loud computer, could you just buy semi-permeable sound-proofing, cut it to size, and stick it all over the inside of a pc and the fans?
  12. So, Just finished watching Linus' review on the Lite.... His "complaint" about the screen got me thinking and wondering..... Would it be possible to modify the console bezel and "upgrade" the screen to a slightly larger OLED display? I'd seriously love to see a video of them trying to do that!
  13. Hello, I know what's causing Linus' OBS to crap out like that, the CPU's getting overburdened by requests, to confirm that, you need Moo0 System Monitor (it's software I use myself, for a minimalist stats monitor and not affiliated in any way), which is the only one that I know of at least that has "CPU Loader", that will show you what's getting too many requests, on my system, it's usually 1 of my many chrome tabs that just fills that "CPU Loader" bar, when it does, chrome's just unusable, everything else still works as it should. R7 1700X and to make it easier on us, if you want to know more about my specs, you can check: https://equallyepic.weebly.com/frozdypcspecs.html Unfortunately and I'm sorry I don't have a way to solve it, but at least you now know the of the most probable cause. Maybe a future video? This only started to become an issue in 2020, I don't have the resources to research these things, all I know is that this wasn't a thing for me at least in 2019.
  14. What is this thread about? I am attempting to write up a little post here that conveys the physics of how the most common (ok, and maybe not so common) methods of PC cooling. If you are only interested in the stuff you need to pick the right coolers, you can skip to the respective paragraph. I am going to start basically from 0 with the physics, since I am specifically writing this for people holding common misconceptions like adding more coolers could get you below ambient or get the room temperature down. What is heat? Ok, first up, we need an idea of what heat is, and how heat travels. Heat is really nothing more than some type of energy (in equations I will write E) held in a material, so we use the unit J (Joules) for the amount of heat stored in an object. "But what about °C/°F/K ?" I hear you ask. Well, this is of course also quite important, the temperature (T) gives us a measure in which direction energy likes to flow. If you have a glass of water at 50°C there is a lot more energy in it than in the same volume of aluminium foil, even at 60°C. However energy will flow from the foil into the glass of water when you bring them together. For convenience sake I also want to add, that energy divided by time is power (P) with the unit W. TLDR; Energy travels, not temperature. How does energy travel? There are 3 main ways how heat energy travels from one place to another: Conduction Is the easiest to describe. It describes how heat travels through a solid object like a steel rod. Using this you can describe how the heat gets out of the CPU die, into the thermal paste, through the IHS, though the thermal paste and into the CPU cooler. How good heat travels depends on the difference in temperature, the area through which the heat travels and the material. Let us know think a slice of material with thickness d, where the two large faces have the temperatures T1 and T2 and have area A. Then the amount of energy dE that moves from one face of the slice to the other in time dt is: dE=C*A/d * dt * (T1-T2) where C is a constant describing how well heat travels through a material. This constant is called thermal conductivity and has the units W/mK (Watts per meter Kelvin) and is the same as W/m°C we can also rewrite the equation slightly and get P=C*A/d Radiation Is pretty hard to describe with equations, luckily it is so super weak, that unless none of the other ways can happen, one can pretty much ignore the contribution of radiation Convection This is the most tricky one. The idea is the following, if you have a bag of marbles and the bottom few are 100°C, then you can make heat travel through the bag by just picking these marbles up and putting them somewhere else. The equations regarding this depend greatly on the specifics of the situation, I will go into more detail regarding air/water cooling in the respective paragraphs. Ok, but what temperature is my CPU actually at? Lets think for a moment about a heater plate with a power output P that is connected via a sheet of copper of area A and thickness d to some solid chunk of magic fairy dust of temperature T2 that doesn't ever change its temperature. What temperature will the heater plate have? Well, the same temperature the underside of the copper plate will have, what is that temperature? In general we can't answer that, I mean imagine you cooled the plate down to -10°C, turned on the heater and immediately measured the temperature - of course your will find -10°C again, no matter what the power is. However, some amount of power will move into the copper and heat it up until, eventually, the temperature evens out. By that point all of the power from the heater needs to flow through the copper (otherwise the energy of the copper would increase and thus its temperature). This state is called the (thermal) equilibrium. We can use our equations for the 3 modes of heat transportation to figure out what the temperature difference between the top of the plate (T2) and the bottom (T1) is: The copper is solid, so all we need to worry about is conduction, so we open up our physics textbook and look up the thermal conductivity C. We plug it into P=C*A/d * (T1 - T2) and find T1 = P*d/(C*A) + T2. Notice that +T2 there? This means, when your room, uuuhm, I mean your magic fairy dust, increases its temperature by 5°C, so will your CPU, uhm, heater plate. Cooling systems are like ogres So what happens when there are multiple layers? Well, each layer needs to have a temperature difference between the two ends, and you just have to add them up, it's really that simple. So if you have a complex cooling system, say an air cooler, You identify the layers involved (TIM, IHS, TIM, heatpipes, cooling fins->air) figure out which layer can be modeled with which equations (conduction, conduction, conduction, conduction*, convection) look up all the constants calculate the temperature differences for each layer add them up Oh, and don't feel afraid to simplify things. Don't the like ~50 coupled 2D partial differential equations that come from looking at each cooling fin as a thing with a temperature gradient? Just assume each fin is the same temperature everywhere. Don't want to solve some complex thing including capillary action for the heatpipes? Just use the W/K for some random heatpipes of roughly the same diameter you find in a spec-sheet and use that instead (maybe divide by the cross-section and multiply by the length to get the a conductivity). Don't want to deal with complicated flow equations? Just assume the water is the same temperature everywhere in the loop. And just like this you have all you need to solve pretty much all cooling systems that stay in an equilibrium (like water or air cooling, not LN2). Things I still like to add include solving these problems for specific methods of cooling. Especially the more common ones. However if I want to actually make it understandable, each of these will be quite a few words with illustrations and probably code examples. So I think it will be a bit much for this thread. Tell me if you are interested and I will write them up in a separate post. Otherwise I might end up doing other physics topics first like "How does a transistor actually work?" or "What are the physical limits of computers?". Please tell me which of these you'd be interested in. And don't hold your breath
  15. I am starting to suspect AMD actually have done this: Lets face it the majority of gamers did not want it, reviewers trashed it and miners & Apple are willing to pay for the Frontier Edition even if the Prosumers would not so what do they got to lose at only selling the Frontier Edition? Gamers abandoned AMD now we are all royally screwed, if AMD no longer will sell them to gamers what will stop Nvidia from pricing their cards 2 or even 3 times as much? Anyone still got hope for 7nm Vega chips? I do not...
  16. Hello everyone, KingCrusader13 here with a kind of off the wall, practically useless idea about the possibility of a dual motherboard setup. This entire idea has been kind of an opposite take on 2 gamers or 7 gamers, 1 cpu. The idea of a virtual server connecting hardware together forms the basis. Both motherboards could use something such as a 5930k or 5960x for a large amount of cores and the potentially important PCIe lanes such hardware supplies. Furthermore, both systems could use it's own dedicated gpus, sound cards, raid configs, anything really, which previously would have been bottlenecked by lack of PCIe lanes, space, heat, or any other of the myriad of current day pc limitations. By having two separate motherboards running and regulating it's hardware, then connecting the two through high speed connectors such as multiple Thunderbolt 3 ports to reduce latency and ensure max transferable data, you could theoretically run two fully powered computers as one. Then, you would run it as a virtual server and assign all the hardware to a single OS. Honestly, I have huge doubts that such a setup would work flawlessly, if at all, and it is easy to see that such a setup would be wildly impractical. It's an idea, and as I'm still really new at this stuff, almost certainly an easily shot down one. Do you think that such a setup would even be possible?
  17. Before i get started this is no way intended to excuse or give reason to North Korea's concetraion camps and other horrible things that we don't know about. This is also in no way inteded to glorify one of histories most horrible people. Lastly this is a conspiracy(ish) theory. This may or may not be true i have no idea if it is. And sorry for the clickbaity title Now lets get started. If you have not been under a rock lately in terms of world politics then you know that North Korea recently claimed to detonated a Hydrogon Bomb. And as we know H-bombs are much more powerful then a standered Uranium or Plutonium based bomb. But seismic readings show that the explosion was on par with orther nuclear bombs that they have set off in the past. So we know its not an H-bomb but it is still nuclear. So why is this important? Because North Korea (as far as we know) is the only contry in the world that detonates nuclear weapons. You still might be thinking to your self what does this have to do with Kim? Well first we must take a trip down history lane to the cold. The cold war was cold because it never went hot. And what i mean by that is that it never went nuclear. It always was convtional weapons in the wars that were fought during the time. The only thing the nuclear weapons did was cause peace. Funny right? For somthing that is suppose to cause mass destruction it preveted itself from doing that. This is due to the idea of mutually assured destruction or MAD for short. If you also look back at the 20th century the USA only attacked contries that didn't have nuclear weapons contries such as North korea(1950-1953) Vietnam(1960-197x) And Iraq(1991). Now back to Kim. By now if you don't catch my drift then let me spell it out to you. Kim wants a cold war between the US and North Korea. He plans to do this with the policy of MAD. This is also the chance he has at getting a peace treaty signed with south korea and the US so he can ensure the safety and stabilty of his contry(funny how that happened). He also hopes that this will help the world not pay attention to the concentration canps set up by his father and grandfather. And the reason he doesn't just cut the progam is because he is afraid of a revolution to over throw him. After the treaty is signed he will be viewed as a Hero to north koreans as he is the one that ended the longest war in it's history. So people freed from the camps would likely be more happy about that then revolting after his great political career. In short Kim wants true respect from the interational community and from his own people and this in his mind is the only way to do it. I hoped you liked my theory. Remeber he is still a horrible person and should be overthrown. I hate him and i wish Korea would finnaly be united under the south Korean government. What do you guys think about this do you think it is true? And if you don't believe me one nukes cause peace. Look up "what if nukes were never existed?" on youtube the first video that pops up should be from Alternate History Hub.
  18. I've noticed that each time angry joe does not like a game, the player count is abysmal on PC. I bring this up because he despised the battlefront beta and I worry that if he does not like the game at release then the games player count will plummet. Since he has two million subscribers and I'd say at least 60% of his subscribers follow his opinion like fact. If he does not like the game then the games player count will fail on PC. Personally I loved Dirty Bomb, Titan Fall, and Hardline, and the only reason I am not playing those games is no body else is on PC. I've came up with the theory: IF ANGRY JOE DOES NOT LIKE A MULTIPLAYER GAME, THEN THE GAME WILL NOT HAVE A GOOD PLAYER COUNT. I feel as though he controls most of the PC gamers opinions when it comes to triple A games that I feel have potential. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER THEORY THAT MIGHT IMPACT HIS OPINION ON GAMES: I've noticed that the videos where he shouts about how a game is bad would gain him more views. Maybe he noticed that and now changes his opinion on the reviews to get more views. So he might have enjoyed some of those games but in the end just gave them bad ratings so he would get more views and subscribers so he in turn would make more USD. Since some people just enjoy it when people yell about how bad something is. I know this idea is dark and I hope it is not true, it is just a possibility.
  19. So the one thing that should've hit me from the beginning is the price. Previously I kept contemplating about whether I should just purchase a GTX970 now, have fun with it until this 'Pascal'-powered card comes out, then go buy that. But then it dawned on me; how much is this 'pascal'-powered card actually going to cost? I mean, if it claims to perform that much more than the current Maxwell we have currently then there is no way this is going to be cheap, at all. What do you guys think? How much do you think it's going to cost when the day comes? I mean, we have our Titan X at the forefront, but on the other hand Pascal claims to offer (around) 10 times the performance of Maxwell, and up to 32GB??! Then that means - as far as I know - this is going to make the Titan look very miniscule in comparison. I'd shoot for 3-4K range. I'm also wondering if this is actually considered for gaming at all, but for graphics designers and FX renderers of the like instead. Maybe this 'Pascal' is made to join the ranks of Quandro and Tesla; hopefully that won't be the case.
  20. The question is, is it Possible to make two smaller Pc's and have them work together as one bigger Pc. Like 50+50=100 kind of thing. For example: We have a budget of a $1000 and we decide to make two smaller less powerful machines for $500 each, Buying the same parts for both. Will we be able to some how sync them and be just as powerful as one $1000 Pc. We will be using the Pcs for gaming, streaming, video editing, with some general work as well.
  21. Hi! I'm pretty curious whether if in theory this would work. Imagine you have a server that has built in dual gigabit. And then you just ram two pcie 4 x gigabit cards into onto there and do some link aggregation with all that mess. Would you, and again, in theory (storage doesn't matter here), be able to get 10 gigabit on your network? Thanks and have a nice day!
  22. So a little back I came up with a theory. The idea is that Apple's new iPhone case is so weird and ergonomic and generally stupid that it couldn't possibly be designed without some strange special conditions. Remembering the Macbook 2015's tiered battery system, I thought, "What if they took extra batteries from that and put them into the case?" I slowly came to obsess over this. So, tonight, I decided to run the numbers. Taking photos of the iPhone 6s case, the Macbook 2015, and using a ruler on my screen to measure the approximate sizes of components within each, I came up with the following crude diagrams: Aaaaaaaand it's not perfect. It's close, close enough I could chalk it up to shitty measurement and bad arithmetic. But I prefer to, instead of justifiying the old theory, push it a step further. I say that some Apple engineer fucked up the dimensions on an order of batteries for the Macbook, and because Apple had to do *something* with them, they made a weird and shitty iPhone case. Honestly, this still doesn't really justify the case. They should have just trashed the batteries.
  23. Hey!! NOT SO IMPORTANT ---------------- So. Wanabe boy story ahead! I've never built a computer in my life (don't just go away). I've been so hyped about it, and really into it, I've spent numberless hours watching vids, reading guides forums, everything. I might be a newb but I know what I want. Ofc I'm gona go with air cooling first, even just to explore and get some knowledge and self-experience on how it works, but I've always loved water cooling since the first moment I heard about it. Eventually my future rig is gona be water cooled for sure, I mean, right now I'm running a gt 540M in a laptop, and as it's not that easy to clean (along with the fact that it's probably half way dead), so it easily goes up to the 90s and I can't play for long before it melts (even light games). I've gotta say, I really hate this pc and I don't feel like cleaning it, I just wanted to throw that outside the window, so let's not talk about this brick. I am crazy and some why obsessed with good looking, water cooling, moding, etc.. So do not at any point try to convince me to buy a titan x instead of a water cooling loop. I am a really sick person, but for what I'm gona play and do, the way I want to play and do is totally ok with me. A LITTLE BIT MORE IMPORTANT --------------------------------------------- Why I'm here: As my laptop is a oven, I wana make a god damn freezer out of my beloved and first creation. Now. LinusTechTips recently made a new build guide video with a nitrogen cooled rig. I aint want none of that. Way too noisy, way too much for my wallet that gaben slowly seduces. And all I want is to go below ambient (not just 3cº like all the stuff I could find on google talking about it). In case you want to know here's my not-water-cooling-needing-at-all-rig. (Just so you don't get surprised, I don't have a lot of money, and if I buy a 4k monitor it's gona be just to work and multi-media in general I'm ok with 1080p for ultra presets stuff gaming, and I'm definitely also getting a 1ms 144hz monitor for comp tf2.) MONITOR - Asus VG248QE + MONEYMUCH -> LG 34UC97 34\ 4K -> Asus PB287Q\ 4K -> Acer XB280HK (These are the options I'm willing to go for, not all at the same time)SSD -Kingston Technology - Disco duro sólido interno de 120 GB (450MB/s lectura, 450MB/s escritura)HDD -Western Digital WD10EZEXCASE -Phanteks Enthoo ProCPU COOLER -Cooler Master Hyper 212 EvoPOWER SUPPLY -Corsair CX 750MRAM -Kingston Fury Black Series 8GBGRAPHICS CARD -Gigabyte 970MOTHERBOARD -ASUS Z97-ARPROCESSOR -Intel Core i5-4690KSome of this will probably change over time And here's the stuff I was thinking about using for my custom wc loop (this is just kind of the schematics of what sort of stuff I'm going to use, don't take it as a huge deal, but still correct me if any of the below listed items are not compatible or dumb decisions). FITINGS -Alphacool Compression Fitting - G 1/4 Thread 3/8" ID x 5/8" OD (16/10mm) - Deep BlackTUBE -PrimoFlex LRTCPU WATERBLOCK -Apogee XLPREVENT STUFF -Pt nukePUMP -Swiftech MCP655RESERVOIR -multi-z 250RAD -Alphacool NexXxoS UT60FANS -NF-S12B Now, I've had quite the ideas, you probably have already been through all this process of being a teen and thinking you can get the coolest rig ever, but let me at least dream c: IMPORTANT TO KNOW: I will probably "get" some source of home made renewable energy generator, just don't mind power consumption at all. My list of ideas: 1=>Getting a few carboys or jugs(google translate isn't really helping with these word I'd say), sticking then in a freezer, and when they where completely frozen, I'd stick them in a big jar with water in it. that would be preventing the "dirty" water from touching a really big reservoir it would be in, so the heat could go through and the "dirt" couldn't. Problems: -If that wasn't enough to cool the water around the whole system it would fail because using rads will lower the temps of the water to ambient levels and not using would overheat. -Condensation(if it works) -Some other you will probably tell me about. 2=>Getting the rads inside a bucket with water and the frozen carboys/jugs/whatever. I really.. Have no idea of what would happen, maybe the materials would get damaged (but then the aluminium or the copper would be exposed and it should theoretically get the temps even lower, but I'm afraid it might just ruin the rads or simply heat up the water faster than the jug can cool it.) 3=>Actually getting a proper system for cooling the water below the ambient temps, I mean, I've read just a bit on how fridges and freezers work, and they seem to compress the water, "pull out the heat", that at higher pressures sort of is relative to "I really am not the adequate person for explaining this", then get it back to normal pressure, that, relatively is colder (?). I doesn't matter, I guess you get it. My list of problems: CONDENSATION K, so, I watched the build guide I mentioned at the beginning of this, and Linus used some sort of anti-humidity paste, and so far, I think near-the-components stuff might be my only concern, the rest, I think, can be easily handled, I need help here. K. I think that might be it, remember, don't hate, this is something I want to learn about and not do, not in a close period of time, I would love you guys to just give your thoughts and opinions on this, thanks. Have a nice day. Thanks for your time. THIS WILL BE EDITED OUT: I'm gona be going to sleep in a few minutes because it's almost 3 a.m here, I'd love to be here right away to discuss with you but I've got school tomorrow, I'm 15 and you probably already guessed what I wana be when I become a grown up. Derp.
  24. Theoretically, what would you need to run a triple 4K display? Just a little thought experiment I thought up, I'm no expert, but I don't think technology is quite good enough to support this, but at the rate we're going with improving tech, surely this will soon be possible and eventually common among gamers. Maybe Linus could do an episode or something on this if it IS possible, like a megaoverkill buildlog......
  25. Oh, the internet, the only place where apocaliptic children movies theories can exist. Apparently there is a connection between all this Pixar movies: All of them belong to a single universe with human extintion, animals being destroyed by robots and all the rest of normal things you see in children movies. A little fragment for y´all: Go read the full article guys, and get your chilhood wrecked apart: http://jonnegroni.com/2013/07/11/the-pixar-theory/
