Hi! I am planning to buy a surge protector to plug in my PS5 and one or potentially two 27 inch monitors along with other peripherals like chargers etc. After some research, I landed on these two: - https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Protector-Multiple-Extension-Essential/dp/B09SG2Q23M/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3ONSTA74W4L4T&keywords=anker%2Bpower%2Bstrip&qid=1694203135&sprefix=anker%2Bpower%2Bstrip%2B%2Caps%2C97&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HVGKMC/ref=twister_B092ZV6893?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 I was confused which one to go for since APC seems like a more trusted brand in terms of surge protectors but Anker is also good and has better features in this model. Is there any certification to look out for or any other recommendation?

Surge Protector Brand: APC Model: P8GT My desktop: Core i9-10850K, EVGA RTX 2080 XC Gaming, with EVGA G3 750 Watts The 4 outlets on the Controlled by Master was working fine and dandy earlier today (early dawn). The 1 outlet has a label of MASTER. The remaining 3 outlets are labeled as "ALWAYS ON OUTLETS". Router/Modem, computer monitor, and inkjet printer are all connected to the ALWAYS ON OUTLETS. My desktop is connected on the MASTER outlet. I tried to set the switch between MANUAL and AUTO for the MASTER and Controlled by Master. I did press the RESET button. I tried connecting my external HDD AC adapter into the ALWAYS ON OUTLETS: external HDD not powering on. I moved my inkjet printer AC adapter into the ALWAYS ON OUTLETS: inkjet printer not powering on. I tried connecting my small desk lamp shade into the ALWAYS ON OUTLETS: lamp shade not lighting up. I checked with APC Technical Support. Was offered to send me a replacement; no charge. I already received the email. After the chat, I received an RMA email, no charge for replacement. Just for the heck of it I powered down my desktop then went to disconnect my desktop from the MASTER outlet. Flipped the switch again to AUTO then back MANUAL. The Controlled by Master outlets started to work again. I'll wait a few more days if still works. Otherwise, I will chat or email them to cancel RMA. Is my desktop is drawing too much power on the outlet or drawing less power to activate the Controlled by Master outlets?

Greetings Community, I have been trying to decide between several UPS power supplies around 1000 watts. The goal was about $150, but prices seem to have gone up so keeping it about $200 or under is the price I have to hit. I had someone tell me that they prefer APC over cyber-power due to easier and usually cheaper battery replacements - so I would like to hear your opinion on that statement. Note that I would also like this UPS system to act as a decent surge protector. 1: This is a UPS system I have had very good experiences with - CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00429N19M/ 2: A UPS system from APC that potentially looks good - APC PRO BN1500M2 - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1383478-REG/apc_bn1500m2_back_ups_pro_bn.html 3: A cheaper, also decent looking UPS system from APC that I could maybe save a buck with? - APC Pro BX1500M - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1322674-REG/apc_back_ups_pro_bx1500m.html If you have any other suggestions for a UPS systems around this price point, please let me know which one and why!

Hey folks, I have been hunting for new surge protectors for my stuff, computer included, and have read a good deal about the clamping voltage, essentially the amount of power that can go through a protector before it kicks in. Most that I have seen are rated at 400-500v. I purchased this unit APC Surge Protector with USB Ports, P11U2 due to some different references on the page to different clamping voltages. I know that APC is a good brand, however, I received the unit and discovered it was in fact neutral (L-N) rating of 400V, line to ground (L-G) rating of 500V and neutral to ground (N-G) rating of 500V. However, am I just overthinking it? This protector has very good reviews, and people wouldn't be buying this thing over and over again if it was frying electronics right? Should I find another surge protector to get instead? Do you have any recommendations?

Hey Crew, Looking to provide surge protection for my ethernet connection to my computer/devices. Does a network switch like the NETGEAR GS305 provide surge protection for the CAT cable itself? If not, what's the best solution for this? Please note, I have little space and less money. Thanks!

Excatly how important is it that my computer is plugged into a surge protector? I have one, but I don't really trust it. I used to keep my PC plugged into a surge protector. However, my graphics card randomly shorted out and had to be replaced while I was plugged into it. Ever since then, I've been keeping my computer plugged straight into the wall. Am I just being paranoid, or is it possible that some fault in the surge protector could have caused my GPU to short out? If it is possible that that surge protector is faulty, is it worth buying a new one to plug my PC into, or should I be safe enough plugged into the wall? In addition, it it possible that my PSU has some sort of surge protection built in? I have the Corsair CX650M. When my GPU shorted out, the PSU would shut off to avoid damage, so I'm assuming it probably has some sort of protection right? Does this also apply to surges that come from the wall? I spent a lot of money on this computer so I'd hate to see it destroyed because I didn't properly protect it. What's the best thing I can do here? Also, I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this. After looking through all the forum categories, this seemed to be the most appropriate one for my post.

A few months ago, my GPU randomly died. Apparently it had shorted out, which was causing my PSU to shut down to avoid damage. I got the GPU replaced, and my PC has been working fine since then. When the GPU died, I had my computer plugged into a surge protector. Since then, I've been keeping my PC plugged straight into the wall (yes I know it's more dangerous). Am I just being paranoid, or is it possible that my surge protector is faulty and caused my GPU to die? The surge protector is just one that I found laying around the house. It doesn't have a name brand on it, so I don't know how reliable it is. Basically, this is what I want to know. Is the surge protector I have safe or not? If the one I have could be faulty, should I keep my PC plugged into the wall like it has been or buy a new surge protector? If I should get a new surge protector, are there any good ones I could get on Amazon for around $15-20? I would appreciate any advice on the subject.

hi everyone,,,i'm going to build my first desktop pc soon and i came across a new hardware named UPS in websites,,, apparently it's a system protector against voltage irregularity and also it has a backup battery for short blackout times...but there are tons of batteryless UPS units out there too the only difference between UPS and a simple surge protector is that the UPS has the backup battery,,,,, now my question is if the difference is the battery why the batteryless UPS units are so much more expensive than a surge protector? isn't a UPS unit without battery just like a surge protector? is there any other differences? thanks...

Really straight forward question here I did a quick google search but brought stuff up from 6+ years ago and even those forums didn't exactly have a clear definitive answer some said yes some said no. I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWAZEIU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to have a back up on TV, router, modem, cablebox, and sound bar. I'm not sure how much watt my sound bar draws but I don't think the combined items are over the 330 watts. However, a lot of the adapters aren't just regular easy to plug in adapters so I can only use 3 of the 5 battery sockets, would it be okay to just plug in the surge protector they are already on into the one battery outlet? I wouldn't have anything else plugged in just the one socket or would that be too much draw on one socket? or does that not matter? Maybe not so straight forward lol...

I have been looking at my local hardware store and online, but every time I find one I like it has really mixed reviews. This place has never let me down before with these types of things so any recommendations or suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you. I live in Virginia.

So I'm getting an Ikea Fredde desk and I need a magnetic Surge protector to be able to set it up at the bottom of my desk to better hide my cables. Does such a thing exist, or am I just out of luck? I've got a high end PC I'm building so I would need something to adequately protect everything. Here is the build if you are interested in seeing that: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/x3cVM8

HI within the past mouth I have build a gaming PC. I have spent about 2,600 Dollars on my PC. I live on a farm witch mean that were have power line on poles outside the ground. So I thought I should buy a good surge protector to keep myself said from lighting. I went on Newegg were I buy everything that is PC related and looked. I saw there was something called joules? Since I have a higher risk on haveing lighting strike I guest I should get a surge protector with a large amount of joules. So are there are surge protector that you would recommend? Would one of these be good? Compare surge protector on Newegg link

My pc suddenly died, motherboard doesn't turn on. I've tried and confirmed that it is indeed the motherboard died, but the psu is still working. Now I will be purchasing a new motherboard, but I have a limited budget, should I go with motherboard and a corsair psu, or a motherboard and a surge protector? I am suspecting that power surge killed my board. Do you think power surge can actually surpass psu and affect 12v rails that power the board? Quick specs: Asus H81m-d Xigmatek X-Calibre 400 watts 8gb kingston memory DDR3

I just moved into a new place and need some surge protectors since I'm back in North America (Canada) for the first time in 4 years. You get enough bizarre power behaviour over the years and you start to realise a few good surge protectors would have been a lot cheaper than the crap power strips you've bought in the past. I have a handful of things that need plugging in by my desktop, a handful that need plugging in by my TV. For everything else, there is a need for multiple outlets but not for massive consumption all at once as with the prior two. Is it standard practice or would it be advisable for me to have UPS surge protectors for TV and desktop or are good quality surge protectors sufficient. I don't think my area is highly susceptible to brownouts. sidebar: are USB ports just a ridiculous marketing add-on on surge protectors whose functions should be handled on their own or is it perfectly fine to have them on there? Thank you!

couldn't find a good answer on this from google . just bought a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD it doesn't have enough plugs on it for my needs .i want to know can i plug my surge protector into the ups or will i have problems . or would i have to use just a power strip no one with surge protection functions max i would pull is 700w ish . i did see don't plug a ups into a surge protector that will cause problems if i get a decent surge . i take that as true also ?

One of my relative lives in a country where he often experience a brown out or spikes. Just yesterday he lose his 1050 Ti because of that, The PCIE slot got burned along with the GPU around the Slot. So he want to get another GPU but he will buy surge protector to prevent that from happening again. He will only use it for his PC which is an i5 6500 and GTX 1050 Ti with 550 Seasonic focus PSU. However neither me or him are electric engineer and we have no idea the differences between these two. They both being sell at a similar price though.. The APC P5B GR and PM1W GR. The differences are the P5B GR has 5 Outlet instead of 1 on the PM1W and the other differences from the spec sheet is (which we have no idea what it means) P5B GR PM1W GR So which one should he buy?

Hi, peace, I ordered my PC parts couple days ago: PCPartPicker Part List: First time Build CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler with 2x NF-A15 PWM 140mm Fans Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Storage: Silicon Power 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB NITRO+ Video Card Case: Phanteks Enthoo Primo ATX Full Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Monitor: BenQ EX2780Q 27.0" 2560x1440 144 Hz Monitor At the time of ordering I also added a surge protector, but removed it upon realizing that it has American/NEMA/US/120v outlet plug (type B) & what I need is a 220v UK or European outlet plug (type G/C/E/F). And it is really hard to find a 220v 3000-4000+ joules surge protector, don't know why, is 220v considered safer than 110v!? So, I searched for couple of days & found some interesting PC protection products, Auto voltage regulator, surge protector, UPS & power conditioner. Now I am not sure what I need, although I doubt if I really need a power conditioner or an UPS, I've been using my 11yrs old laptop with a simple power strip in worst conditions like thunder, lightning & brownouts (not continuously), there has been times when in 5-10 minutes 4 or 5 blackouts occurred. According to my search, I found that UPS don't provide voltage regulation, only a little bit surge protection & a backup in case of a blackout (which I don't need since I am not doing any important work on it), am I right? If AVR, I am thinking of going with STAC ST1000W If surge protector, ORICO 6 Way Outlet Power Strip Surge Protector If UPS, APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD 230V - SMT1000I Please advise & enlighten me!!

Hello there guys. I'm looking for a little UPS with few inputs (let's say, max 4 power inputs or so) and input/output ports for RJ11/VDSL2 with surge protection function. My goal is to have this kind of UPS so I can continue to use internet and, at least, the phone, while electricity goes off for whatever reason. I need this because, recently, I got an upgrade to my internet subscription and now I have an fttc vdsl2 line. With this kind of line, the phone works in VoIP linked directly to the Router, but since I have a cordless phone with a radio-base, I need to power that too. I took a look at this kind of UPS https://www.amazon.it/dp/B0009HMYKS but it looks too big for my requirements (I only need to power/protect the Router and the Cordless at the end) and I don't know if those rj11 input/output ports have surge protection. Also, do you recommend to use an all-in-one ups with these features? If so, what would you guys recommend me to buy? In case it's better to have a little ups for the power and an rj11 surge protector filter separately, what would you recommend me to buy? Thanks in advance guys, cya o/ edit: if the section is wrong, move the thread guys

Hi there, I'm building a new PC but at the moment there's not earthing at my place and won't be possible for few days. So I'm finding to have any alternatives for earthing. Will a surge protector help me protect my PC for temporary basis? Like this: https://www.belkin.com/in/p/P-F9E400-1.5M/ Or is there any other option? I'm using Corsair CX550 psu for my PC will it help me provide a bit protection? Let me know your suggestions. Thanks.

Hello everyone, thanks for reading. My place constantly experiencing Power Outtages. Like 4 or 5 times a week. And so far I only use Power Strip. After much reading I realise that it's better to have some protection to prevent my component from being fried. Therefore, do you think I should get UPS or Surge Protector? My UPS is Seasonic Gold Plus 750w. Thanks!

I have a Corsair VS550. In my city there's no heavy power surges as far as I know (I may not be politically correct) but I use an UPS of APC ( http://mdcomputers.in/products/desktop-acessories/ups/apc-back-ups-600va-230v-bx600c-in.html ) -Check out the photos below- **Problem**- The UPS uses Indian socket system which don't follow the American plug diagram and different style. I was using a surge protector (a cheap one of with Belkin 200 joules or less ) to plug the PSU power cord for the noted cause. Before I bought an UPS, I used to use the machine directly through the power line and in the meantime, my graphics card started to show malfunctions. So eventually I ended up buying an UPS. Here's the thing, is it bad to use the UPS, connected to a surge protector? APC Says something here- http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA158852/. Truth to be told, what could I do except doing this? I had no other option going along with the given power cord provided by Corsair and plugging into the surge protector at the time and still now. I was baffled and the same still now. ADVICE!!!! - Corsair Plug type that I got APC UPS Socket. different from the PSU power cord pattern.

I am building a new computer with a Corsair RM1000 and I am lost on how to protect it. What kind of surge protector should I get to ensure that if the power goes out my computer will be protected? And as far as a battery backup, which one should I get? I was suggested to get this one > http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZT2KKM?keywords=smc%201500&qid=1454613792&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 but as you can see that is really expensive. Any thoughts?

So it's been a while since I've studied this, but when you're looking at a surge protector, the higher the joule rating, the better, Right?
