  2. The Compulab Airtop 3 is completely passively cooled while sporting an Intel i9-9900K and an Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000... sounds toasty. Have Compulab actually managed to keep it cool? Buy the Compulab Airtop 3: From Compulab: https://lmg.gg/airtop
  3. Hi guys So I want to upgrade my Ryzen 5 1600 cooler from the stock one since it's started making a lot more noise than it used to even though it is clean. I was thinking about something from Scythe as they are relatively cheap and well performing. I don't know if I should go for the Mugen 5 PCGH, Fuma 2 or Ninja 5. My priority is good temps, then noise. But noise is also very important. I plan to upgrade my cpu to a 3900X or 3700x sometime in the future and I would like the cooler to still be good enough. Which one of the three would be the best choice in my case? Also my GPU fans (gigabyte 1070tj 3 fan) are very loud, especially under load. I definitely do not have the money for water cooling, so I thought I should do a mod where I just put case fans on the heatsink, but I have no idea which fans would be best. I want to run the card with a mild overclock, with silence being the most important thing. Are there cheap 120mm fans that are silent and better than the 3 small fans that are on my card now? I've been looking around but I can't seem to really find any good fan reviews. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  4. The Blue ZIlent V2 is a silent tactile switch offered by ZealPC, the same vendor who has created other famous switches such as the Zealios V2, Tealios V2, and the Healios. This time around, Zeal has created the Zilents V2 which was made to compete with the MX Clear. The Zilents V2 are offered in 62g, 65g, 67g, and 78g weights, similar to its brother, the Zealios V2, which are also offered in those four weights, and additionally in four colors, with a progressively darker stem color with each weight option. I've personally chosen 65g as I own 62g Sakurios which I find a touch too light and 67g Tealios which are near the peak of my weight preference, so 65g was the middle ground in my weight taste. In my testing, I've compared the Zilent V2 to both 62g and 78g Zealios, and here's what I think. Starting off with the stem, the color comes extremely close to the Tealios, the Zilents are more blue in hue than the Tealios, where the Tealios take on a more turquoise saturation key. The stems of the Zilent V2 are smooth and definitely up to the standard of other Zeal boutique stems, made of ultra smooth plastic and it shows in the feel of the switch. This time around, there are silencing rubbers similar to those found in the Healios and its recolors the Sakurios & Roselios, three more of ZealPC's silent switch offerings. These silencing rubbers are excellent and provide a soft, pillowy bottom-out on keypress as well as dampen the impact on the way back up as well. These silencing rubbers also obviously make the switch a lot quieter as well, they slice about half of the sound profile of the Zealios V2, which is what the switch is designed after. Pictured below on the left is a 78g Zealios V2, and on the right is the 65g Zilent V2 that I have been analysing. They share the same stem leg design as well as the same stem slider design, only on the Zilent, the bottom and top of the sliders are lined with rubber instead of the traditional plastic. These are the defining characteristics of the Zilents V2 which is why I often refer to these as silent Zealios. The leaf inside both of these switches housings also remain identical to the human eye, with the legs of the contacts being highly protruded to promote that crisp and sharp tactile bump. The Zilents V2 inherit the same traits as the Zealios V2, having a defined, sharp, crisp bump at the top of the keypress, much sharper than that of an MX Clear or MX Brown. This combined with the silencing rubber to soften the bottom-out and upstroke impact, this switch is an excellent choice for those that find the Zealios V2 to be too forceful with bottom-out and upstroke, as well as find the Zealios to be too loud for a tactile switch. The ZIlents V2 are a modified switch done right, keeping all the traits of the Zealios V2 but improving them to target the market who want a silent variant. To read my review on the Zealios V2 where I go in-depth about the actuation and design of the switch similar in fashion to how I reviewed the Zilents V2, you can read below where I have linked my original Zealios V2 review.
  5. Hello, I'd like to expand my current set-up, and I'd like to do so with 1 or 2 extra mini-nodes. I currently have one of these: https://www.supermicro.com/products/system/2U/6027/SSG-6027R-E1R12L.cfm which is running 64 gigs of RAM and 2x E5-2560 V2. I added one of these https://noctua.at/en/na-fc1 to lower fan speed/noise. This is the main workhorse. I'm looking for suggestions for a low-power (around 25-30W), relatively silent server. Performance isn't a hard requirement, I'd be aiming for an i3/E3 or similar, but I would like it to have at least 2x 2.5" SSD (preferred over M.2) bays + some 3.5 ones, double ethernet, 16 to 32 gigs of RAM, and some form of remote management. Bonus points if it can be easily wired and mounted on a Rack. Usage would include: Ceph mon / mgr (possibly OSDs), etcd member, few containers for monitoring and logging aggregation. If possible, I'd like to stay around 200€ for chassis (including CPU, rails/hdd bays and accessories, but excluding drives and RAM) but, as you can see from the currency, I live in Europe, where it may be harder to find something like this. For example a https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/system/1U/5019/SYS-5019S-MR.cfm is around 900-1200€ for just the chassis and is a 1U with 22.500 RPM fans. What should I be looking for? Thank you.
  6. Hi all, after finishing my watercooling loop I have been made promptly aware that the loudest component in my PC was actually the power supply, a CX750M. While not a bad power supply by any standard, the fan is quite loud at the loads I’m putting on it(300 watt Vega 56 @ 1.7 Ghz something something load i7-6800K @ 4.1 Ghz). I was looking at replacing it with an RM unit, and I was wondering if the RM1000 would be worth the extra 40$ over the 850 for my use case, in which I’d prefer silence, but if there’s no meaningful difference I’d rather not spend more than I have to. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
  7. I would like to know what is the best keyboard for a high school AP English teacher and future author, silent (so no interrupting students), no tenkeyless (putting in grades), I don't want or need pain from typing from hours. No wrist rest please. I prefer full height key caps. What keyboard should I get/use? Thanks,
  8. Hi everyone, looking into making a making a new build Brand new build Have peripherals and a windows 10 Home Live in EU and the budget is up to 1.5k without GPU for the tower Single monitor, gaming oriented at 1440@120hz Aim Gaming - aim for a cinematic experience in latest AAA titles & 120fps@1440 in FPS games Productivity- I will run a linux distro and will do some CPU, RAM and Storage/IO intensive tasks Needs My default computer is a macbook for life and work stuff. I also have a high capacity NAS for media / backup stuff. Now I need a capable machine for gaming and productivity (compiling software). CPU: Will go for the latest high end Ryzen for occasional multi core productivity works GPU: No idea what do here ATM Any good price to performance charts for the latest cards? Storage: Will need quite a lot of fast storage. At least 300GB for Linux and the some for windows RAM: I need 16GB, or even better 32GB for my productivity stuff. But wouldn’t hurt it to be fast enough for memory. Do I need faster than 3200? Is quad channel a good idea for Ryzen or waste of money? Info: don’t like RGB lights, prefer components without that fancy stuff don’t want a case window don’t want to play with water cooling or AIO prefer a silent PC, so I would want to go all Noctua don’t want to do any overclocking prefer a modular power supply My biggest concerns are: Mobo - what chipset should I get? Do I need a X570 chipset? BIOS upgrade is not a problem GPU - I think I would like some of that raytracing, so go nvidia rtx I guess? Storage - I would like some good storage Case - should be silent, provide good cooling options and has to be white / cream / beige.
  9. Hi Forum, my 10 year old watercooled 2.8ghz quadcore leaked a year ago and there's something causing bluescreens from the hardware.. It's time to build something new. I once was very good at this stuff, but 10 years of not paying much attention to hardware development.. you need a hell lot of time to get back into it. All of linus' videos helped great there. Thanks Linus & team! For my build I was inspired by wall pcs (google it, plenty there) and this guy who cooled his pc passively, build log here. Now I am ready for a build log: Requirements I made up: On the wall quiet no fans portable for lans (gaming get-togethers, like physically. Is that still a thing with young people?) I like hardware and specs, but in the end it has to look good. If a floppy looks good, I'll put that, so don't complain about hardware not being the best I could get. First I made a render, so you can see where this is going. After that I will post progress on the production of all the parts. That will take some time. I hope to be done by the end of the year. Dimensions are about 160cm to 70cm.
  10. Hi all, after 15 years or so, I'm thinking to finally exchange my blue ringed Lian Li B25 for something more up to date. I had a closer look on the Fractal Design R6 series. They seem to have pretty heavy noise dampening modules in the side plates, so I was wondering: Has someone ever looked into the impact of a noise-dampened side plate versus a window kit? It must be lacking some of the insulation... how big is this impact? Can you hear it? And changing good old stuff I was also thinking about changing my beloved Noctua air-cooler, which is with me since AM2+ socket days in 2007 and was supplied with free socket-adapters since then (until recent AM4) by Noctua. That really blew my mind - hands-down best service experience I had in all hardware related issues so far. Would you rather go with a new air cooling solution for the new case or jump to a AiO watercooling system (having a Ryzen 9 3900X in mind)? Any other thoughts of changing gears are highly welcome as well of course ? I was actually getting quite frustrated with the Lian Li over the years. Exchanging front-fans is a crazy undertaking as you cannot access it from the front but only from inside the case: You have to get rid of the HDD cage to access the fans... but then you have to get rid of the GPU to access the hdd-cage... and the HDDs themselves. Resulting in a major Hardware battle just due to a blo**y fan failing ? Cheers hunchi
  11. Hello, I just got my new rtx 2080ti in the mail and i was so stoked about it, but now that i got it installed it only makes alot of noice. The fan the furtherst away from the io wont stop spinning when i change the fancurves. It will always spin on one set of rpm. When i ramp it up it will go up but when i turn it down it will go back to the same rpm. I've read threats about people RMA the card but i would really like to keep that option as a last resort. My specs are AMD ryzen 5 3600 16 gb 3000 mhz Corsair veangeance (2x8gb) Asus rog strix B450-I gaming (mini itx) Samsung m.2 250gb intel m.2 2tb be quiet dark rock 4 NZXT h200i corsair sfx 600 Best regards Camiel
  12. First of all, i am so sorry if i am not in the right topic. So i bought a new pc a week ago and its like a very high end gaming pc (2080ti/I9-9900k/32g of ram/etc..) i bought everything myself so its not a company PC. My problem is that when idle my pc is around 48 to 50 Decibel wich is kind of loud because it's right next to me on my desk, i was wondering if it's average or if my PC is too loud, and what can i do about it ? Ive already set every fan to silent mode and even tweaked some to run even more silent. I feel like it just vibrate a loottt. Case : H510 Elite NZXT GPU : Aorus 2080 TI AiO : Corsair H100i RGB Platinum All fans (except the AiO) NZXT Aer RGB 2 (120 and 140 mm) Thanks Oh and when i stop my Top exhaust fan, the pc kind of stop vibrating and its much much much better, did i screw this in badly or something ??
  13. I'm trying to spec out a new system for doing sound recording. I'd like it to be as quiet as possible for those times I'm recording through a microphone. My current hovercraft-spec fans are far from silent. My studio space is really small and the best solution would simply replace the current system which is about 12" wide, 10" tall, and 15" deep. The current system is based on a very old Q6600 (Core 2 Quad) with 4 GB RAM and Windows 10, so it's not going to be very hard to improve on that one's performance. I'm expecting "mid" rather than "top" performance which should be fine. I'm planning on using the following components: Ryzen R5 2600 Micro-ATX motherboard https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450M-DS3H-rev-10#kf NoFan 500W fanless PS https://www.quietpcusa.com/NoFan-P-500A-Fanless-Power-Supply-500W.aspx NoFan passive CPU cooler https://www.quietpcusa.com/Nofan-CR-80EH-IcePipe-Fanless-CPU-Cooler Video card something like this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/s3YWGX/gigabyte-geforce-gt-1030-2gb-silent-low-profile-video-card-gv-n1030sl-2gl 2.5" SSD M2 drive The NoFan cooler is pretty huge so needs clearance above and around the CPU. Don't need an optical drive or any 3.5" drives. Don't care about running games. Current video card is a GeForce 8400? It's fine (other than it has a fan). I was looking at the SilverStone SUGO SG11B which is about the right size externally but the ATX PS mounts over the CPU which forces you to use a low profile cooler. I'm skeptical I can get a fanless cooler into that space. I also see fan controls, etc. and the reality is is don't need it silent all the time, just when I am recording with a mic. So conceivably I could also use a system which allowed shutting the fan off or spinning way down for awhile (10-30 minutes?), and then it would speed up if it needed to. So, I'm interested in: a) case recommendations b) recommendations for ways to find a case starting with its external dimensions and clearance over/around CPU (PC part picker is a little abstract in that regard) c) Thoughts about other cooling approaches (a "quiet" vs. "Silent" fan, spinning down temporarily, etc.) Thanks! DL
  14. Hi everyone! As you can read from the title, i'm looking for help on a completely silent workstation. The main use for this workstation would be music production, some light video editing and some photoshop with maybe a little bit of gaming here and there, but it would mainly be for producing content. My problem is just that I have no idea if this is even possible. I currently have no parts selected but I have some requirements: At least an 8 core CPU (preferably AMD) At least 32GB of RAM GPU: something like a Radeon 5700 or RTX 1050 Ti is good enough And of course, completely silent. (as little coil wine as possible as well) To me it doesn't matter if it gets a bit on the bigger side but I want something I can put together myself, I don't want to buy a pre-built workstation. I don't know if it's possible to build something like this myself, so I hope there's someone who can point me in the right direction here. thanks for any answers!
  15. Hi, I am planning to build a new PC soon, and now I am looking for a good case to go with it. I would like to get one with a good balance between noise and cooling, I don't need a completely silent case, but I'd prefer if it wouldn't be too loud, while still maintaing decent cooling capabilities. I don't care too much about RGB, color scheme or overall design, good performance is the priority for me. Price limit is around 150$, but I'm willing to go a bit higher if the case is worth it. Hardware I'll (probably) use: Ryzen 7 3700x w/ Noctua NH-D14 (already owned) MSI GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Gaming X Trio be quiet! Pure Power 11 CM 700W (mainly a placeholder, haven't done proper research for PSU yet) Mainboard not sure yet either, but probably a ATX-Board I also have 3 120mm Noctua Case Fans which I could reuse from my old PC (can't tell exact name atm unfortunately), buying new ones wouldn't be a big deal though Cases that peaked my interest atm is the SilverStone Kublai KL07 and the Fractal Design Meshify S2. I'd be very thankful for your experiences with these or other recommendations. I also apologize for another "advice seeking" post like that, there are probably 1000s of them out there already, but I built my last PC 5 years ago and didn't quite kept up with new hardware, plus my experience with PC cases is very limited, so I feel a bit lost and some opinions would be very helpful.
  16. Hi guys What would be a good cooler for the 3700x? Would something like an Arctic freezer 34 esports duo or CoolerMaster MasterLiquid Lite 240 RGB be enough to keep it cool and quiet?
  17. Hey guys and girls. I'm projecting my new build, i'm aiming for silence without hurting aesthetics because this will stay in my recording studio/editing and i need a good balance... So the build will be something like this: Ryzen 3700x Gigabyte Rtx 2070s gaming OC Gigabyte x570 aorus elite Crucial NVMe M.2 960 GB 2 x 16 GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR-4 3600Mhz Be Quiet! Power Zone 850W For cooling i will just watercool the cpu for now but in a close future i'll add the gpu. I'm thinking about using the Thermaltake PR-22 D5 pump and the Corsair Hydro XC7 block but in the radiator department a doubt came in my mind Will i have lower noise with: 480mm Rad and 4x Be quiet! Shadow Wings 2 Or a 360mm with 3 x Silent Wings 2? I'm not looking for extreme OC, just a stable and fast workstation/ gaming rig. Oh and all this in a Thermaltake Core P5 Tempered glass edition. Sorry for the long post

    Custom loop

My first custom loop. Blood sweat and cuts. Leak test for a few hours. Case didnt make it easy to build in. Drain valve in worst place. Apart from that im happy. When full system on should look good. RGB from fans and gpu block.

  20. Hi. I use custom build silent hackintosh for Lightroom + Photoshop and Hugin for panorama stitching, no games, VR etc. just mail, web browser and photo editing software. The question I have is, which graphics card would be the best for my setup? I narrowed down my choices to AMD (nVidia is not supported in latest macOS) and Sapphire Pulse has good opinions when it comes to noise, but I'm open to any suggestions. Other than performance for the video editing I worry about noice levels and a lifespan. There is a lot of graphics card out there used for mining cryptocurrency, which means they were working under 100% load all the time. No idle, no turned off for the night, just 100% load or even more if OC. Each graphics card would be faster than my integrated graphics. It's an old build (2015) based on i5 4690K and MSI motherboard H97M-G43 Intel LGA1150 H97 Micro ATX Motherboard (4x DDR3, 6x USB3.0, 8x USB2.0, GBE, LAN, HDMI, DVI, DP, VGA). Maxed out memory - 32GB. No graphics card, stock fan and procesor without OC, on factory settings from new in the Fractal Design Define R5 case. SUPER QUIET! I use this computer with 27" Eizo CG 277 monitor (2560x1440) and 21" ViewSonic for portraits (pivot mode @ 1200x1600). I don't plan switching to 4K for now. Recently I tried to upgrade my storage - SSD 850 EVO 1TB by adding M.2 970 EVO also 1TB as a boot drive and I failed. Still trying to sort this out (I ordered PCI Express adapter) but it could be not that easy as I'm thinking about dedicated graphics card, because recently I started editing some videos as well. I use DaVinci Resolve 15, very slow. I considered passive cooling with Palit 1050 Ti but nVidia on mac is not supported that well. So I have to narrow my choice to Radeon. RX 580 with 8GB of RAM would be the fastest option I can consider, but also louder than anything else. I'm not sure if I can benefit from that speed using my config (mother board has one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E1, supports x16 speed) and one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (PCI_E4, supports x4 speed). I'm going to try and find out where my SSD will perform better. I can go for RX 580 4GB, which is cheaper than 8GB, but still pretty fast, RX 570 8GB (slower, should be quieter, same price as 580/4GB) or RX 560 4GB. There are even 2GB options, but that could be a bottle neck for the editing. I guess RX 480 should be also pretty good. Each of these cards is much faster than my built-in Intel Graphics and macOS use acceleration even to draw the interface, so the improvement should be overwhelming no matter what I choose. Price is not that important - all of these cards are available as used on ebay for £80-140 which is very acceptable. Thank you for your advice, vipR

  22. Hi. Currently have the Corsair Carbide 400C. I damaged the PSU shroud, cable management isn't so great and my CPU Cooler (NH-D15) just bearly fits (I'm unsure if it hits the side window or not). Because I will be upgrading my R5 1600 to a 3600 soon, I figured, might as well change the case while the MoBo is out of the case anyways (I would never get the NH-D15 back on while inside the case). Now I've watched many GamersNexus Case Reviews, and I thought I was set on the CoolerMaster MasterCase H500P Mesh, because of the great airflow and the 190mm CPU Cooler Clearance (current is 170mm,which barely fits if at all) The thing is, I'm pretty certain my R5 3600 won't reach high temperatures, because Zen2 doesn't overclock well & my CPU cooler is a beast. And given that I have a PNY GeForce RTX 2080 XLR8 Gaming OC (1440P 155Hz Gaming), I figured it would be better to have better airflow with the GPU (which will probably reach much higher temperatures). Looking at the following chart, I thought about the CoolerMaster SL600M (which also has plenty CPU Cooler clearance): But looking back at the CPU temps, I'm really uncertain if this will be good: ..What do you think? Is the trade-off too big to justify the SL600M? Obviously the H500P Mesh is good in CPU and okay-ish in GPU performance, but won't the noise be way more noticable? I recently took a liking in "as silent as necessary" environments. Any other ideas? The charts are from the end of 2018, are there even better alternatives now? Anything I am missing? Thanks alot!
  23. This is an awesome idea I would like LTT to attempt using their own creativity. Building a spectacular DIY 'desk PC' (it can fold!)
  24. (copying this off my reddit question in /r/pcmasterrace, since I never got even an upvote there). I'm trying to find a small, silent PC case with front-panel USB-C, but can't seem to find a decent selection. Requirements are, in rough order: Front-panel USB-C (even if as an addon module). Top/side mounted works, too. As much sound dampening as possible. I'm 0% interest in RGB and side windows for this build. ATX-sized (tentatively for an AORUS Master) Compatible with existing gear that i'm carrying over: H115i pro (2x140mm) rad, HX750i psu, RTX 2070. Right now, I'm replacing a case that's about W190mm x H423mm x D485mm. So far, after a significant search, I've only found two possible options: Fractal Design's Define R6 (it's an E-ATX case, so about a size too big from what I wanted): W233mm x H465mm x D543mm Silverstone KL07, which I'm having trouble sourcing: W222mm x H510mm x D467mm I'm looking at something like the Corsair 270R, 275Q, 330R (on the bigger side) or 400Q, and wishing Corsair would upgrade their lineup or sell usb-C upgrade kits. I was also wondering, should I just settle for a bay-mounted USB-C port? My initial thought on this is case with ODD bays might not be smaller than the other options I've already got. Any good suggestions?
  25. Which GTX 1070's have silent mode that turns off the fans when the GPU is within a certain temperature ? I was looking at some 1070 GPUs and most of them don't have a silent mode like most 1060's and their fans run permanently which is a thing I dont quite like.
