To my surprise this issue is non existent with how I'm trying to google it. I live in eastern washington and it's pretty cold and dry here as the default. The humidity is normally sub 30-40% and the room I'm in has a long carpet (close to like, shag, yeah... i know) These conditions seem to be causing lots of static electricity and if I interact with anything connected to my computer after walking around or something a static jolt appears to either 1. Restart the computer if it is already on and running. 2. Wake up the computer if it is hibernating (my preferred status when not using it). This happens when I adjust my seated position, leave the room and come back, move my microphone stand, etc. when i get the humidity past 30% this issue doesn't seem to occur but of course that's a bit difficult. I'm ashamed to say that despite being an electricians son I don't understand what's happening with the computer and my tiny bit of knowledge makes me think I need to somehow "ground" my pc case (it's plugged into a ground via the power cable but my guess is that the static is jolting it in a way similar to how the power button itself functions but that's a wild shot in the dark.) Does anyone know of a good way to prevent this from happening? Are there ways to ground the case? Maybe sound kind of case grounding mat? Should I buy one and put it under my chair? Currently I just make sure I touch my keylight boom pole (not connected to the computer) just before I touch my computer peripherals.

This problem been occurring for about a month now. I replaced the PSU (generic no brand) with a coolermaster mwe v2 450 watt bronze unit and got an antec a30 cooler the following week. Only thing I changed here was getting an old cable for a water heater a two pin one because the three pin one they sent with the psu was too big for any socket but the fridges. Also the new cpu cooler is a 3 pin compared to the original 4 pin so one pin is exposed. The PC won't sometimes boot and I've tried stuff like trying to reseat the power pin to just making sure the unused psu cable aren't touching the case. This is when I noticed the second issue when I tried to push the power cable in. I could feel electricity touching the back part of the psu or even a light shock which alarmed me. However after fondling with random cables by unplugging them and plugging them back in the computer would boot and I would feel no current whenever the pc is running from the psu. But this problem often returns and sometimes just turning the main power switch from the socket off and trying again later also works and the pc would boot up fine. I also noticed when I was turning off the pc when I wanted to feel the heat on the cooler I felt nothing but warmth when the computer was shutting down but still powered but then as soon as the computer powered off I felt a slow tingling sensation from the cooler which escalated to the same light shock I felt from the psu. I'm really concerned and have no idea what could be the main culprit as I checked the psu via paper clip method and it was working fine. Specs (if they matter): -i5 3330 -lga 1155 h61 Mobo (foxin) -Gtx 1050 ti (asus expedition) -12 gb ram DDR3 (1333mhz) -500gb 7200 rpm hdd -cooler master Mwe v2 bronze 450 -antec a30 cpu cooler

I live in Sri Lanka and recently I bought myself some PC components to upgrade my existing system which was looking lame. The PC I had, Intel Core i3 9100F Processor Asus TUF H310M-Plus Gaming Motherboard T-Force 16GB 2666MHz (8GBx2) RAM Team GX1 240GB SATA SSD Seagate BarraCuda 7200RPM 1TB HDD Antec A30 36 CFM CPU Cooler Antec BP450 Power Supply Asus GTX 1650 Phoenix VGA Antec DP301M Casing Creative Labs Inspire T6300 5.1 Channel Speakers Asus VZ229HE 21.5" Monitor Samsung 19" LED Monitor PowerPro 650VA UPS Logitech C310 Webcam Haviet WiFi Adapter Antec RGB Cooling Fan, Raidmax Cooling Fan (Both 120mm Fans) The new parts I got for the upgrade are, Corsair H100 RGB 240mm CPU Cooler Corsair MP510 240GB M.2 NVMe SSD Corsair RM750 PSU Cooler Master MasterFan MF Halo 120mm Halo 3-in-1 Pack Asus TUF Gaming GT501 Casing Toshiba P300 7200RPM 2TB HDD Asus TUF M3 Gaming Mouse Asus TUF K3 Gaming Keyboard I put together the system on the 3rd of December and on the 4th of December I checked everything and everything was working fine. I'm running Windows 10 Pro and cloned my SATA SSD files to the new M.2 SSD using the Macrium Reflect 7 software. But on Friday (10th of December) I woke up in the morning as usual and started my work on my PC and I felt like a small sting coming though my keyboard. At that moment I didn't feel it much but it kept happening. Everytime I touch my keyboard (the base of the keyboard, not the keys) I feel like a small current is running through my body. I started wearing rubber flip flops right at that moment and I didn't feel it again. Obviously I knew then that it was leaking or flowing a small current through my body. I further investigated this and asked some of my family members to touch the keyboard and they felt the same thing too. Then on Saturday I took apart my system again, tried everything I knew to determine what's happening but unfortunately I didn't find a solution. I even checked whether the PSU is grounded properly and removed it completely and tried installing it again, but that didn't help either. At this moment I don't know anything else to do or try out and this is why I'm reaching out to you, and I really hope you will help me out because I'm really desperate right now to know what is the problem in my system. I tried using the keyboard connected to my Laptop, but then I didn't feel any current, so my guess is something is not right in my PC or I broke something while putting together the system. I know it's not harmful in any way to me but my concern is a current flowing through my components can harm them in the long term, am I right? I really hope you will reply back to this email and help me out to find a solution for this problem because I'm really desperate to know what happened or what's happening to my system. Thank you in advance for taking the time out and reading my email. I really hope you will help me out.

I don't have any issues on my pc right now, but I'm getting static at the back of my PC. At first I thought it's because I have my unit sitting on the floor, so I moved it up on my table. Thinking that would fix it, it didn't. Please help.

Budget (including currency): 200 Country: US Current build Lian Li Lancool 2 TUF X570 plus wifi ryzen 7 3700x Red devil 5700 xt m.2 ssd (x2) 64gb ram (4 slots) AIO water cooler dual fan I have a current build that I'm moving into a new mobile workstation I'm building in a motorhome. It's a pretty powerful system built in a LianLi Lancool 2 case. Right now I'm looking for a cost effective solution to mount the PC in the motorhome in a way where I don't have to move it or store it for driving, and have the PC protected at the same time from any bumpy roads. Some people have suggested me the rack style shock proof cases that AV companies use, but those are far too expensive. I would like to not change my case if possible, however it does seem like something with a horizontal motherboard mounting would be better. I have been considering some sort of test bench like setup with some kind of shock proofing under it. Any suggestions are appreciated. Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for this question.

Howdy! I'm creating an account just for this certain problem I'm having. I have recently built my new gaming PC tower and along with it, I purchased a Razer Huntsman. I am loving everything about all of it, but the one thing that has me concerned is that my keyboard isn't grounded. I don't even know if this can be a legit problem. Sometimes I run my fingers across the lights on the keyboard (indicators for caps, num lock, etc.) and feel a rumble, and when I purposely touch the sides of the keyboard, I can feel the hairs on my neck rise, with a tingle. I know its a grounding issue, but how? I tried switching the outlet/USB port it was plugged into and it seemed to be there for a bit, but went away (hopefully for good). I also am on a carpet floor, so is there some sort of issue with static electricity flowing through my legs that can mess with the grounding? Maybe switching ports was the solution, but I don't know if anyone has a reason. Thanks for the help, and I'll be willing to provide more info. Thanks!

Hey guys, I want to know why my psu blasted and why whenever i turn it on an blasting sound comes with spark of fire outside the psu?

I have my PC and all its drives in my room on the second floor of the house. Like most houses the second floor is obviously not concrete and is your average wooden floor boards. However the issue with these wooden floor boards (or maybe it's just this house, it's pretty dreadful) is that when someone is just walking across it I can feel the vibrations through my chair from the floor and therefore I am assuming the hard drive can also well and truly feel the vibrations through the case from the floor too. This concerns me because it makes me question whether this could limit my drive's lifespan, reliability and increase the chance of a fail; recently happened to me actually. Would elevating my PC's case off the floor with something like a stand be worthwhile in eliminating the effects of the vibrations from external sources outside the case?

Today, I turned on my PC and felt a slight shock/vibration when I touched the power button. It turned on normally (with no visible signs of slowdown so far) and I'm using it to type in this post. I did a Google search on similar situations and reports of dead systems really had me worried that I might have harmed my new build even if it is working fine now. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance!

My parents have an old DirecTV set top box that has completely died. They want me to extract some of the shows that are recorded from it, so I want to take the HDD out and see what I find. However there is a warning on the back that says "Caution, risk of electric shock. Do not open". Should I actually refrain from cracking it open because of this, maybe the PSU internals are exposed or something? Should I let it sit and drain fully of power for a couple hours just in case? Or is it more of a BS warning to deter people from opening it?

So I have my first PC and it has a Seasonic S12III 650w 80+ Bronze PSU. While I was trying to remove my desktop speakers I accidentally touched the PSU's screws and gave me a shock, me thinking it was just static build up I tried to touch it again and it gave me a constant shock. So I tried to touch the UPS that its connected to and well it also gave me a shock. The USB ports in front of my case too shocks me. Is it my PSU? or could it be that I use a 3 to 2 prong adapter for my UPS? Since we only have 2 prong power outlets here.

I've settled on getting a Razer Seiren X to up my audio game but I'm having difficulty finding a shock mount (other than the one Razer sells which is out of stock on their website) that is compatible. A lot of them I see have a clamping type mechanism that is quite large and I fear it would interfere with the volume knob and mute button on the body of the Seiren X. Anybody have a Seiren X with a non-Razer shock mount? I could just spend the £10 and see if it fits which I'm not against doing but wasting money isn't always an intelligent idea. Razer Seiren X: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B076TQ7KKJ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1 Shock mount in question: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H40WUQG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A380ZQUTGHWD6J&psc=1 Arm stand: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01NH31CLK/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1Q7TA93N2BEFO Pop filter:https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B06XPGKSHL/ref=crt_ewc_img_dp_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1Q7TA93N2BEFO I'm also open to suggestions on other microphones as I know not everyone is a fan of Razer but I like the way it looks just as much as the reviews say it's on par with similarly priced mics like the Blue Yeti (which I think looks a little off). If anyone could provide insight into any of the other products I've listed that would be fantastic as well if need be. The reason I need a shock mount is because I plan to have the mic mounted on an arm stand plus it just frees up desk space and looks damn cool having a mic mounted on an arm like that. Thanks!

I just bought a new pc yesterday. Component list :- https://pcpartpicker.com/list/yhWYNQ ; Power supply: Antec High Current Gamer Gold Series HCG750 Gold 750W When I plugged in my iPad USB cable and was shocked that it was shocking on the other side. ***Later I found that all the USB 3.0(blue) ports from the front(CASE) and rear(MOTHERBOARD: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E) are shocking if I touch them! The case or IO shield doesn't shock anywhere or at least I couldn't find anywhere. How can I solve this issue? Is it normal for USB ports to shock?

I just finished installing a NZXT Kraken G10 with a Corsair H55 for my GTX 1070 ASUS Refernce Card. After putting everything back in my system I got nervous like I always do after modifying or adding hardware, when I turned it on I got no display but in 8 seconds I heard the windows start up sound. So I kind of screwed up while installing the water cooler and didn’t use my brain. AT ALL! Since my desk is cluttered by monitors i had to setup my GPU on the ground which is carpet. So I lined my workspace up with old anti static bags while I sat on carpet and got to work. First thing I noticed was that when I took my backplate off part it was shiny as if a capacitor leaked. By now my warranty is already ruined thanks to the sticker on the screw on the heat sink bracket. So I continued... once I got the kraken on I followed the next step in the manual. It didn’t mention anything about over tightening so I kept on screwing the screws in, until I noticed the motherboard of the GPU was bending. So I immediately loosened it. And made sure pressure was even, and the bending was gone. After installing the new modified GPU into the system I ran into the problem already mentioned. Obviously the fact that I worked on carpet could have ruined my GPU even though I didn’t hear or feel anything. Question time: 1. Could the fan header on the GPU now having no fan plugged into it cause the GPU to not run? 2. Should I try the oven repair? 3. Can I still do an RMA and pay the repair so I don’t have to face the overpriced GPU market? 4. Since my CPU is RYZEN I can’t boot via mobo GPU so should i try to use a different pci slot? 5. Any tips or ideas PLEASE give them to me! Thanks! ~Aedan! P.S. I followed the instruction manual completely and watched NZXTs video. And the shiny stuff also appeared on one of my old mother boards which died a while back where MSi confirmed it was a capacitor leak if that gives any ideas.

ok so I pulled out my mobo for a quick look without wearing a band and I accidently touched the green important stuff and I'm worried it might be dead now. Should I just test it or should I do something else? Also do you think its dead.

I have some apple earbuds that I've had for a month or two now. Ever since I've been using my new laptop my earbuds will actually shock the inside of my ears when I am lying on the floor. Could this be caused by static electricity? It is really annoying and it only really happens with this laptop. Even if I put my finger on the side of the laptop sometimes I get a nasty shock too. Anyone know how to fix this or the reason for it?

I felt a static shock when I touched the screw on the backplate for my cooler when I was trying to put back the backpanel while the computer was on, everything seems to run fine but could've I fucked something up still?

Just about every time i plug in my headphones into the aux out on the front of my case, a small static discharge goes off and my pc restarts! This also happens when i plug in a usb. I looked to see if the wiring connecting into the motherboard, and it was all right, and im not sure how to check if my outlet is grounded.

I Found when I was plugging my speakers on the back on the case. My cheek was tingling when I touched the top right case screw. It hurt alittle. When I put my finger on it I didn't much. I then placed my tongue on the case screw to make sure. There definitely was electricity flowing through the case screw although it was not a lot. I was downloading Windows 10 updates so my computer was kinda at low power levels I turned off my computer immediately to prevent from accidentally frying my components and myself. Even when the computer was shut down the electricity was still flowing through the case screws. I then turned off the power supply and then it stopped. I don't know if my outlet is grounded or not, but should there even be electricity flowing the screws. I just got my parts around 15 days ago. The power supply is a very high quality, EVGA 850w G2. The PS3 can supply 850w ( because I want to crossfire 2 r9 390's in the future and pcpartpicker said I needed 753w at the most.) I did put all the standoffs in under my motherboard (micro ATX)because I forgot to put it and I had put my motherboard in. Also my powersupply came will extra SATA power connectors on one power cable. My Cable managing is not the best and have to push my cover to put it back on. My question is it because I have a bad power supply, didn't put all the motherboard standoffs in, I don't have a grounded outlet, or Power cables. Please I am scared that I might damage my computer or myself.

So this started happening last week and basically what happens is that when i have been playing games for a while and if i touch the side of my pc case, it gives me this weird shock. Its not like a *snap* shock its more continuous. All groundings in my psu and outlet are fine and i dusted the case. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Also i can hear little crunches from the case sometimes if thats any help.

Should I connect a wire touching my PC case to the window which have metal grills? I've been shocked too many times, even inserting USB devices needs extreme caution. My PC has metal casing and just recently changed from a generic PSU to 80+ bronze 500W. I'm also using AVR but is plugged into 2pin outlet because it's a norm in this country. I'm more worried of shorting out of components though. I don't know if the house is grounded, my laptop usb port and powerbrick would also shock me which I'd say at equal amount as my PC.
