  1. I have a problem with the fingerprint sensor on my laptop. The operating system behaves as if it does not exist and is not ready to set it. After updating the drivers, OS and firmware got me nowhere, I used Dell's troubleshooting software. In the end, after all else didn't work, I called their customer service, who told me to do the things I had already done. So I reinstalled OS and went to sleep. In the morning, the sensor still didn't work. I called them again, and after a few minutes of exchanging details on the computer, they referred me to local customer service, claiming that they would be able to resolve it. They were miserable. After over half an hour of conversation in which they asked me to change all kinds of settings in the bios that are not related at all and asked me if I even know how to install a fingerprint sensor in Windows, they had to seek help from those who really understand. After fifteen minutes of waiting on the line they said that there was nothing to be done about it and that apparently my computer simply does not have the fingerprint sensor. Of course, after that I checked, and I couldn't find any store in my country that sells it without the sensor, so I called them back, and after a moment they put it on hold, and two minutes later they hung up. The next time they did not transfer me to a service representative. The fourth time I called they answered and explained that there was nothing I could do and I had to go and replace the entire keyboard at their service center at my own expense, even though the warranty clearly also includes hardware issues that require replacing components. Just to clarify, the warranty package I have is the proservice. Does anyone have an idea what can be done?
  2. Hey y'all, I just need somewhere to vent and warn people about this since I got introduced to Keychron Keyboards through ShortCircuit. 3-4 Weeks ago I've got my company to order me a Keychron K8 Pro as work equipment. After some initial Bluetooth issues (connected once to my notebook then for 3 days it wouldnt until it just worked again) I now have issues with my left arrow key. It constantly drops inputs. So I tried to contact the german support (keychron.de), since im from there. The only ways to contact support are via a mail form or online chat. The online chat states they respond in a couple of minutes. After not receiving a reply for a couple of hours I used the mail form to write them a message. Funny thing is, that after sending the message I didnt even get a confirmation email that they have received my request or anything. So I wasn't sure if that worked and tried to contact the main support (keychron.com). They dont have a chat, only way to contact them is by mail. So I did that. Atleast they send a confirmation mail that they have recieved my request. So thats nice. Well then I waited. I closed my keychron.de tab with the support chat since I contacted them by mail and thought I would receive a reply that way. Welp. This morning I havent heard anything from them, so I thought I reopen my keychron.de Tab and check if the chat had a new reply. And suprisingly 22 hours later I have received one. In an chat where the support agent doesnt know if the customer is even still there or not. Hella unprofessional in my eyes. Customer Service is also part of my job, so I know for a fact that this is not how you handle such a thing. The response was just a sentence where they asked for my order number. Which in my eyes is odd. You have the serial number for one of your products. That should be enough for you to verify and check the sale or waranty status. This whole ordeal has turned into utter frustration on my side. The defective item is a freakin keyswitch. Which is worth what? A dollar maybe? The keyboard is hotswapable and even in their quick start guide they state when they have to replace somethign they just ship that part. Rest is easy serviceable. So why does it take so long to replace a single keyswitch. The time invested by me and the customer service agent faaaaaaaar exceeds the value of the switch or what keychron would lose if they would just ask for the adress and send one over. So far I havent heard back from them and at this point I start to dont care anymore. I just swapped the defective left arrow switch with the one for rgb (since i dont use that key very often). So atleast I have a "functioning" product again. TL;DR: Really like the keyboard from the feeling and everything. But I cant and wont recommend buying anything from keychron. Support so far is awful and slow. Replacing a Dollar-Part shouldnt take 2 days to figure out. PS: While typing this I also noticed that some keystrokes where just not recognized while using the keyboard in bluetooth mode. My work laptop is maybe 50 cm away from the keyboard and nothing else is connected via bluetooth. Plugged in it works fine.
  3. Occasionally, I experience audio clips and sudden loss of sound from my speakers. Strangely, my microphone continues to function properly during these episodes. All of my audio devices, including speakers and microphones, are connected to my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen) audio interface. Interestingly, when I adjust the buffer size in the Focusrite 2i2 settings, the audio returns to normal. Any solutions? System Configuration: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B450-F RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Royal RGB 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 3600MHz Audio Interface: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen) OS: Windows 10 Professional (64bit) Audio Devices: Headphones: Audio Technica ATH-M30x, Speakers: F&D HT 330, Sound Card: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen), Microphone: Maono AU-A03 Condenser Microphone
  4. I just received my Lenovo G40-70 from a 3rd party repair center. It wouldn't turn on thus I decide to bring it to the repair center. According to the repairman, the BIOS was corrupted and needs to be flashed. It works flawlessly with integrated graphic, but the dedicated one is having a thread-stuck issue. From what I read in Lenovo's Website, the issue may be caused by incorrect BIOS or outdated BIOS. What I found out is this laptop currently has different BIOS ID & Version than it should be. My question is, what did they do to this laptop? was the bios chip replaced? and how can I revert it back to its original BIOS.
  5. As they were named specifically on WAN Show this Friday and are visible in a lot of videos I wanted to talk about my story with Keychron and why i probably will not buy another Keyboard from them despite liking their Keyboard A LOT about the past 1,5 Years i was able to use it <.<° I bought a Keychron K4 V2 in ISO-DE Layout (which is important as i'm a German i love my DE Layout and depend on my extra Large Enter button ) on the 30th of august 2021. And it broke 2 Weeks ago which is 1 Year and 9 Months later. To me this is already sad as i am an trainee and don't have that big of an income so i not only bought the keyboard but also the bag to keep it safe while transporting but additionally 1.5 Years is a very poor performance on a 100$ Keyboard that at all times was proteced and not thrown around or anything. So what happend? I checked the Keychron website "12 Months Warrenty" okay i thought.... sucks to be me then but it could be worth a try with the customer service. Also a friend convinced me that you could always have "monday models" and a second chance on another keyboard might run better. SOOOO i wrote the customer service: Email Newest to oldest (you have to start at the bottom and some are missing somehow): If you read through this, you will notice that: First: They call me Keychron. Thats because they generate the Response out of the e-mail adress i use. I Have a Catchall and use one for every shop i order from. They don't get that right 1 Single time. Second: They kind of drop in the mood of the messages and give very mixed signals AND seem to ignore a lot of what i write anyway. Third: I could have dealt with a "no sry won't help". But THIS is stupid customer service on another level not only did it waste my time it looks like even they don't know what they do. Overall? If i would have been able to get a Q5 for ~150€ i would have invested in another chance at this company. They do good products as long as they work but overall with THIS customer service.... UFF now i'm not going to and i will try to avoid giving them money again. So if Anyone know where i can finda a "Traditional 1800 ISO-DE Layout" Keyboard for any price with a decent quality and maybe a featureset similar to the Q5 i'm up to spend some money on it. Have a nice day everyone. Nex video_2023-03-23_23-25-04.mp4
  6. deciding between inwin sr36 and some other cooler... boils down to the customer support (warranty and such)... also does it apply internationally? im in the philippines... does anyone here have experience with inwin's support? please do comment...
  7. Hi, I couldnt find any open competitions for video editing... I´m a beginner in video editing and want to get more experience. I`d like to edit your video footage and learn how to make videos. (e.g a Youtube video) I have already made a few vids. But i need to kill some time while in quarantine.
  8. Hi LTT community, Hope everyone is well in this time of crisis (as of April 6th 2020) Today, I’m reaching out for help on something I’ve been wanting to do for a while and that a couple of you might have done in the past. For the better part of the last 5 years, I’ve gained a lot of interest in computers and electronics. I watched hundreds of hours of footage from BitWit to HardwareCanucks and of course LTT. The reason why I am mentioning this is because I think I’ve learned a lot of things and that I’m ready to use this knowledge to help others. Of course I don’t know everything and you can always learn a thing, but I’m confident that I can now use it for something. So here goes my idea. I really want to start a side-gig. I would essentially offer PC building services from components research and gathering to building and maintenance. I’m reaching out because I want to know if any of you has done it, is currently doing it or wants to do it. This could be a topic where we could share knowledge and experiences. Of course, I came with a few questions in mind: 1. Can it be profitable? 2. Where should I post my ad? (Ex. FB marketplace, Kijiji, website) 3. What’s the best way to do this? (How do I charge? Do I buy from manufacturers or retailers? If you have any other tips, go ahead!) 4. Do you need to have building experience to start? Thank you everyone, Let the conversation... begin! -Philipp
  9. My computer was getting a bit loud so i check the task manager and see that service host: local system has high cpu usage (well not high but 30% which is a lot more than other things) and upon further investigation i found that windows update is causing this. I have ran malware bytes and it found nothing. If i go to windows update it says my device is up to date If i try to stop windows update in services it says: Windows could not stop the Windows Update service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Should i try out a different virus scan? Or any other recommendations
  10. Hi, I have a problem with steelseries and its customer support. I ordered a headset (Arctis 5), and when it arrived the mic was broken. So i went through all the trouble with customer support and trying to fix it but that didn't work. I sent it back and i got a coupon code which had the headset's value, then I ordered the same headset once again. Here is where the problem starts: I accidently ordered it with VPN turned on, so they cancelled the order because the billing adres didn't match with my IP. Now normally I would get my money back, but because I ordered it with a coupon code, I didn't (can't use the coupon aswell, was a one time use). So I contacted their customer support and their response was that they are suspicious of fraudulent activity and further tickets opened on this subject will be closed immediatly. Can anyone tell me how I should handle this? Because now I have no headset or the €119 that I paid for it. Thanks for reading, Luke
  11. I'm looking to get an aftermarket 1080 Ti. I'm moving from a desktop with a 290x, but I never had any problems with it, so I've never gone through customer service with a GPU. After using a 980M in my laptop, I realized how much I was missing out on with Nvidia. Anyway, I've read a lot of good things about EVGA's customer support, and how people would prefer them over Asus, solely because of them. Unfortunately, those posts are from Americans. Right now I'm looking at the 1080 Ti FTW3, but like I said, I'm not sure about whether EVGA's customer care is exclusive to the US. Just some other info: I'm looking for the best of the best when it comes to the GPU (specifically the base clocks), and plan on safe overclocks in the future. So here I ask: What card do you recommend, and what has your experience been with customer support in the past?
  12. So today I went to buy a one plus 3, and I have so far no had the most pleasant experience. It started out and I select the one plus 3, put it in my cart, put in my address all the while ignoring the 3 WEEKS to ship. However, upon going to enter an American Express, it wouldn't accept. Fine, whatever, I go to my visa. I place the order and guess what, there has been an error with the payment. I go and i "checkout" multiple times under the same order number so I don't get fined multiple times, and it won't work. I call them up, and I tell them everything and they were no help. They asked me so many questions I had already answered, but they kept on saying "24-48 hours. The website told me the order wouldn't even be processed if I didn't pay. I guess I will wait for the 24 to 48 hours and see however I do not think it will change much.
  13. Today I noticed that compattelrunner.exe is running in the background, I don't know what it is, I did some research and it appeared that it is only in Windows 7, and I have Windows 10, the process uses around 10-20% of CPU and it's really annoying me, does anyone know anything about it? Thanks.
  14. Heyo, So recently, my Corsair H100i V2 failed, pump and fans dont work, yada yada yada. So i thought if i go directly through Corsair, i might get a better response... NOPE, they refuse to RMA my cooler due to insufficient proof of purchase, apparently, multiple snips of the order details page and a tax invoice is not sufficient. This is illegal in Australia, as a bank statement is enough, they claim they cannot see the retailers name, but is clearly shown on the invoice and snips. I have drafted a letter to the ACCC onbudsman (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) as a formal complaint against Corsair, for breaches in consumer law (all businesses selling to Australians MUST abide by these laws and face massive penalties - up into the millions of dollars - and cannot be over ruled by EULA's, Business policies or otherwise) Was Curious if anyone else has had poor service/tech support from corsair, i contacted the retailer today and got an instant RMA approval, so ill get my money back, but am not pleased with Corsair's response/service
  15. Currently I use Ting with my Samsung Galaxy S7, and have been using it for around two years without any major issues (Aside from shit coverage in some areas that I frequent), however I'm wanting to switch to a different service provider as Ting gets too expensive once you start using a reasonable amount of minutes/texts/data. I'm located in SE Michigan, USA. I'd prefer to keep the plan to $40 USD maximum. A few things I want from it... - Unlimited talk and text - At least 2GB of data - Tethering enabled (I sometimes need to use my laptop tethered to my phone, and would rather not have to pay extra for this.) - Good coverage (4G/LTE) - Decent data speeds (At least 4Mb/s is good) - Reasonable technical support (As long as they're better than Comcast, I can handle them.) - Supports BYOD (I don't want to have to buy a new phone, I'd rather just bring my Galaxy S7 [International Unlocked, GSM] over with me) I'm considering Cricket right now, though have heard fairly mixed reviews on it. Anyone have any suggestions?
  16. Hi, I'm looking to get temps down and increase overclocking headroom. So the two best ways to do so from what I've read is liquid cooling and delidding. Running an i7-7700k Btw, currently with cryorig H7 but I'm gonna upgrade to liquid soon. So here are my questions: - Should I pay silicone lottery or some other service to delid it for me? Or should I do the delid myself? - If I hire a delidding service, is there a chance that they send me back a broken chip? Or none at all? - How much of a temperature difference does it really make? - Is it worth the voided warranty? Thanks guys!
  17. TLDR : Don't buy from the dell.com/dell.ca website they are not worth your time even if you can save a bit of money. their customer support sucks BAD and they don't care for their customers. SO. what happened ? well, it all started a few months ago. when I decided to buy a dell 2 in 1 laptop. it was cheaper on the dell website and I had company discounts there. so I bought it strait from the website. I got a confirmation of order. saying it would arrive within 2-3 weeks. and then. nothing. 4 weeks passed, then I check the email I had reicived with the tracking number. and clicked on it. turns out, my order got cancled ! so I contacted dell, and they coudn't tell me why it got cancled. they had no idea. (now wether they actually knew or not I can't tell. I just don't know.) then, they ordered again and had the thing shipped. but I got no emails, no confirmation that it got sent. The laptop arrived, and a week later I got the confirmation email that it was sent from the dell warehouse. A WEEK AFTER I HAD REICIVED IT !!! how does that make sense ! turms out I got the laptop after all anyways. and some good discounts. got it a month and a half too late tho. college had already started... whats that ? you think that was it ? hahahahahahahha. no. When I got the laptop, it came with a 5400rpm drive. wich I had in mind that I would change for a 256gb ssd after I got the laptop, because dell gave me a 49$ gift card for buying the laptop in their store so I bought it there. At first, I screwed up. I put in 2x the gift card number instead of my credit card number. I was called the next day by a dell representative and we got that fixed. he, on the phone, confirmed the order was all good and going to be shipped asap. and that the order had been aprooved. not only that. but he sent me emails about the confirmation too. today, I checked the order status. and it had been cancled AGAIN ! now. why was that ? no idea. dell can't answer either. no clue. I called dell's customer support. I was met with "its beyond what I can do" and "we cannot ship it, I will need your contact info and credit card number to issue a refund" because, aparently he doesn't have that. now. why was my accoutn not refunded when the order was cancled and why did I not get an email ? no clue. no one knows. I asked to speak to his supervisor (he didn't want to help me, and when he said he'd transfer me, he put me on hold and came back saying he spoke with his supervisor) aka bullshit. then he tranfered me to the sales department. wich asked me if I wanted help buying one of their products. (nah, he didn't tell them the issue ofc. just a direct transfer to a new dep) these guys then figured they coudn't do it. so they transfered me to the ORDER STATUS DEPARTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES. IM IN CANADA. the guy realised there was a problem. so he transfered me to his supervisor ! (what a relief I though) but nah. the guy gave me a number to call but decided to transfer me anyways to a closed department. wich just played music untill some ear peircing alarm went off and the phone call was ended. I knew the department was closed because the automated system told me it was when I called the number provided. is it over now ? no. my issue is still an issue. I contacted dell via twitter and they said they were "sorry" and to contact them via private messages. I only got an automated response from them as of right now. no consideration for the info I mentionned. just a "we got our team checking your status and submiting a refund" funny. considering I was told I needed to re-give my email, phone and credit card info. but those guys didn't ask. in the end. its simple. don't buy from dell, their products are ok. the PR and CS teams arn't. hell. I had less trouble with HP than those guys. and even Logitech sent in extra pairs of their g933 headphones when my first pair broke. so I shall rate them. Dell's website : 7/10. its hard to use and prices is all over the place Dell's customer support : 2/10. they arn't all bad. the first time with my laptop went fine and the lady was nice. got resolved quickly. second one tho. well, they left me hanging. Dell's phone calls : 1/10 coudn't hear anything the guys in canada could say. though if you speak to the supervisor I spoke to on the US side, he had a decent accent. Dell's care for its customer : 0/10. you are not worth their time. and they are not worth your money.
  18. So I had an Asus Z170-A motherboard, and it was great. It did everything I need and more, but sadly I killed it. I snagged the 8-pin EPS connector for the cpu and it ripped the socket off my motherboard. The plastic slot is okay, it fits back into place. However, the 4 ground pins were torn off. I have already filed an RMA request with Asus, and they won't replace it due to "physical damage not being covered" Is there any way to repair it? I've done very little soldering before, so any help would be appreciated.
  19. dear all i want to discuss this topic and would love if linus cover in future videos. i personally suffered many times from bad customer service. i recently bought a MSI laptop and i got small issue with the keyboard and they refuse to look at the laptop until i pay certain amount of money since i am asking for the warranty service in another country. then i thought why do they have 1 year global warranty if they want me to pay around 70$ for a 2-3 $ issue with one key in the keybaord. so i send them email and here is the reply: funny they want me to send the unit to US while i am doing my research since i am doing my PHD and now post doctorate. what do you think about this?? am i wrong in feeling that i got scammed that they should cover for warranty without any fees ???
  20. Has anyone else had any bad experiences with Zotac? I bought a refurbished 1080 AMP from their online store on the 20th. I received the new (to me) card on the 26th. It was dead on arrival, now they are making me pay return shipping. The only reason I went with them was because they had the cheapest used 1080. Now I am regretting not going with a manufacturer with better customer service. Lesson learned. Never buying from Zotac again. I will have in total paid around $50 in shipping fees (if the replacement works)

  22. I do not know where resellers are sending graphic cards, but it seems very strange that they sent it on January 29th and did not even arrive at the service center? Why does the parcel when you order something from abroad come within 3-7 days? but the RMA from the graphics card is not even around there.
  23. On several Youtube channels people dumping this graphics card due to consisting driver problems is a topic. I'd like to see Linustech covering this (it's not the cheapest card, is it). It would interest me more than a mini computer in a Dyson or an aquarium for that matter.
  24. I know it sounds weird but I have a problem on my Surface Go When I try to type on Windows Start menu, File Explorer or some MS Office apps nothing happens, but the keyboard (Typecover) works perfectly with my browser, acrobat reader, outlook, WIN key and Win shortcuts (Win+R, Ctrl+Alt+Del, ..) Earlier this week I deactivated the "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service" because the screen keyboard kept popping up every time I touched the screen with my hand while trying to write with the pen. I just tried re-enabling the service and it's actually working again. Guess I'll have to find another way around this annoying software keyboard.... I post this anyway because I didn't find anything on the internet and it may be helpful for someone.
  25. [Today] Apple has silently launched a service program for 13" MacBook Pro models that do not feature the TouchBar. These 13" Macs are one of the only MacBooks, if not the only MacBooks, that still feature removable storage. However, while Apple does not appear to use a proprietary connector with these drives, they are using a proprietary form factor and no 3rd party drives have been created as far as I'm aware. These non-TouchBat MacBook Pros have had quite the bad track record for reliability. All 2016/17 Macs are covered under a keyboard replacement program through Apple, but some 2016 non-TouchBar Macs also had a program for a free battery replacement (a component on the logic board is apparently predisposed to failure which can cause the battery to expand) which also had the upside of doubling as a free keyboard replacement. I have personally only had a issue with the spacebar on my keyboard getting stuck from a small rock which I was able to fix with a piece of paper and compressed air. This service program appears to simply be a firmware update however, and not an actual drive replacement. How a firmware update can prevent a drive from failing or loosing data is beyond me, you would think that the drive firmware would be pretty consistent across all models and not just a select range, but what do I know. Hopefully if a drive has failed Apple is Apple to replace the drive free of charge, anything less would be unacceptable imo. The turn around time should be an hour or less for anyone who makes an appointment at any Apple retail store or AASP. If you own one of these Macs be sure to make a Time Machine Backup and take your machine in for service. I know I still need to get the free battery replacement for my 2016 nTB MBP Source: https://www.apple.com/support/13-inch-macbook-pro-solid-state-drive-service-program/
