The Setup: I8700, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200Mhz, 4X8TB HDD+256GB SSD. 1Gb LAN connection. TrueNAS SCALE Dragnofish 24.04 The Usage: File server & Plex server. The Issue: I'de like to use the SSD, I know how to add VDAV to the pool but there are several options which fits, Log, Cache and Metadata. I'm not sure which one to use for the best performance. The files I care about are about 1-2GB in size. Your advices will be very welcome.

TrueNAS scale SMB basics help Hi All Posted this a few days ago in https://www.truenas.com/community/forums/operation/ but did not get any response so figured i would try here as well I'm new to TrueNAS Scale and need help getting started. lets start from the beginning. I have a Dell Optiplex 7040 i5-6500 12GB RAM, 256GiB SanDisk_X400_M.2 and 2 x 500 GiB Seagate ST500LM021 My objective is simple I want to use TrueNAS scale as a file share for home, I have 4 users including myself. Using a mix of Windows 10 Pro, Windows 11 Pro and Ubuntu 20.04 PCs . I read the instructions https://www.truenas.com/docs/scale/ and looked for info on this forum and other locations but still cant get SMB working correctly. Here is what i have done so far. Installed TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02-RC.2 default install on 256GiB M.2 drive Logged in and went to Storage and created a mirrored pool called storage with both 500GiB drives ACL Mode POSIX Added Data set to storage called data (share type SMB) Created local group called home_users (Samba Auth enabled) I plan on adding other family members to the group Created a local user called martin (Auxiliary Group home_users, /nonexistent, Shell Bash, Samba Auth on) Added SMB share called data /mnt/storage/data In Storage for Dataset:/mnt/storage/data edit ACL added User martin and groups martin and home_users all with full Control rebooted for good measure. OK here is where I start getting lost my assumption is i should be able to access the share from my Windows PC at this point. when i go to \\truenas\storage\data from my main Windows 11 PC i do get prompted for user and password as expected but it fails with Network Error Windows Cannot access \\truenas\storage\data, I also tried \\truenas.local\storage\data, \\192.168.2.98\storage\data and \\192.168.2.98.local\storage\data same result I tested the same with Windows 10 PC and with my Ubuntu desktop via smb://truenas/storage/data i get prompted for credentials and same result. so I went to system settings - shell and checked root@truenas[~]# ls /mnt storage root@truenas[~]# ls /mnt/storage data root@truenas[~]# ls /mnt/storage/data root@truenas[~]# ls -al /mnt/storage/data total 1 drwxrwx--- 2 root root 2 Feb 13 09:22 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 3 Feb 13 09:22 .. root@truenas[~]# I can see that the ACL will not work as is so i guess i missed something in my steps. Now i have no data on this TrueNAS so i have no issue wiping and starting over so if anyone has some insights to point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Ok, so. My HPLV2011 Monitor doesn't change correctly the resolution I want, and always displays on 1600x900 and for example, if I want to use 800x600 (for some reason) I will see the screen like a tiny rectangle and around all in black or the classic black stripes at the sides on 1440x900, additional info: I use an adapter to pass from HDMI on my laptop (Win732bit) to the VGA monitor. I hope is a driver issue but if is the adapter I will cry. I will answer your questions as fast as I can. ->>> I want the screen to be scaled to the full screen and not see empty/black spaces.

Hey there! I have two 4k LG monitors that I have down scaled to 1080p because of many reasons. Mainly being streaming down scale from 4k to 1080p looks horrible and takes a lot out of the CPU. Also swapping from one monitor to the other is a bit of a pain when one is set to 1080 and the other is 4k. My question is, is there a way to make the monitors not look like absolute garbage in 1080p. When I'm in game it looks fine. I used 1080p monitors for as long as I can remember and down scaling my 4k to 1080p looks disgusting. Almost feels like i'm using windows 95 with the scale turned up to 200% (it's at 100%, the lowest it will let me go)

hi, so i have a 5:4 monitor and im using it now at 1280x1024 resolution i want to increase the resolution i tried custom resolutions on nvidia control panel but can't get the screen to be either blurry or scaled good i was wondering if i can user like windows 10 dpi scale but it doesn't reduce less than 100% and can't afford to buy a new display for the moment is there like any way or program even if i use like 16:9 resolution and leave black spaces on the display like a movie or something lol anything would be fine * i have a quadro 400 btw and im using a vga cable im going to change to a dvi cable which is better..

Hey guys So i bought a HTC Vive headset and wanted to set it all up. I have plenty of room (i remeasured twice), the base stations are above 2m and everything is according to vives description. But when i want to do the SteamVR setup it tells me that my room is too small, wtf? Do you have a solution to this? Reinstall, restart etc. didnt work either! Hi all, so, I have the Razer Blade 14 mid 2016, so it's got the 3200x1800 display. Obviously in order to use this display I need the display scaling at 175 or 200 % which when I'm using just the laptop display is fine. However when I use the laptop display as the secondary display and my 34in Ultrawide as the main display I get a ridiculous amount of lag when moving windows between the displays. I assume it's due to having to re-render the window when it moves from one screen at 100% scaling to the other at 175% scaling but sometimes it can take a few seconds, which seems a bit unreasonable at time. Also, CPU when just browsing the internet it much higher when I have the laptop display on as well, does the display scaling consume that much resources? If I have just an external display connected and the laptop display closed, I get no lag at all, everything runs smoothly. INB4 razer laptop throttling It's not throttling, I get CPU temps in the 50's to 60's, CPU clocks are at 3.2Ghz, which is normal for a 6700HQ.

I don't know what happened but I had my Pc plugged into my TV(48inch) for a while to watch a show but now I brought it back to my desk and suddenly the font size in some windows was giant and others aren't as you can see here: https://gyazo.com/d7c3473bdae480e1f03d10f1948b5860 and here https://gyazo.com/c1a9ebf62e8bc74c777488b940a3b6f7 these are just some examples, however, this doesn't appear in Chrome and some other Programmes like Steam. I really don't know what to do but it is really getting on my nerves and I didn't find anything by googling since the basic scaling thingy majigger in the settings is at 100% like it should be. Hi. I wanted more real estate on my 2010 MacBook with it's 1280x800 resolution. I installed SwitchResX for that and set up scaled resolutions and then restart my machine. I now cannot get into it to do anything, it boots and then when it would ask for login it is black. I can navigate around the OS but can't see what I'm doing. Can I do anything from command line?

The interesting thing is the Xbox One, 60fps is present but with a "scalable" resolution. Since they have to come to a compromise somewhere because of the hardware, Sledgehammer games has decided it will be resolution. The resolution will be set according to the intensity of the scene, on a "frame by frame" basis. It will always keep the strange minimum resolution of 1360x1080 and during less active scenes will scale up to 1920x1080. Is an inconsistent resolution really the right way to go about this? There hasn't been much of a ruckus over games that have used this in the past, but is this really something we should find acceptable? It seems they are using this technology to benefit themselves rather than the players. With a max resolution on the box of 1920x1080 they can wave the 1080p* flag and just have to put the details in the fine print. Changing resolution on the fly seems like it could cause numerous visual errors. If the resolution selection system glitches, it seems like it would even cause its own performance issues. If it never scales down, thus not reaching the 60fps target, or it never scales up, thus never reaching 1920. You really want as few variables as possible since they can all create numerous domino effect type problems. This system however could be very useful in the case of new console versions, allowing the game to automatically scale with the better hardware rather than the developer pushing a patch that would leave out the people on the older hardware. Perhaps this is preparation for that very event. During firefights you need clarity and consistency, as it is now this method introduces inconsistencies during these times. Snipers will however benefit from this system, since their clarity will increase while they lining up shots from afar. Personally if I were playing this, I would rather they lower resolution at all times to give the target 60fps. Hopefully changing what should be constants into variables as a compromise to hardware will not become a trend.
