  1. Hey all! So I have my old PS2 controller alongside a PC converter to make it playable on PC. It works fine for the most part, apart from the button designations that don't display the Playstation button symbols like "Square", "R1", "L1", "Start", etc., but it displays them as "Button 1", "Button 3", etc. Is there a way to change how they are displayed? I tried navigating the Devices & Printers in the Control Panel, but all I found was only the testing if all the buttons are working. Looking forward for some replies. Cheers!! P.S.: I don't have a PS3/ PS4/ XBox/ XBox One controllers because I've never had those consoles. I only have my PS2 from back in the day.
  2. I recently decided to start a new project using my PS2. I thought it would be cool to be able to hook the PS2 up to my PC monitor, and be able to switch between using my PC and PS2 at my desk. My monitor (An Acer SB220q) has two ports - an HDMI and a VGA. Since the HDMI port is used by my computer, my initial instinct was to find an adapter that would convert the RCA output from the PS2 to VGA. However, after a bit of research, I found that it is very difficult to convert RCA to VGA, and would require a special active adapter that costs around $100. Instead, I managed to find this adapter (see link) which plugs directly into the PS2 and converts it to HDMI and AUX out. Since I already had a displayport to VGA adapter and a VGA cable lying around, I figured I could plug my PC into the VGA port, and the PS2 into the HDMI port. However, I discovered that plugging my PC into the VGA port greatly decreased the image quality, and caused this strange wavy effect (I'm not sure what to call it). As a last resort, I decided to buy an HDMI switcher, which would allow me to use both devices on the monitor through HDMI. While this setup does work, the HDMI switcher seems to have caused an unforeseen problem. It seems as though power is able to travel through the switcher between the PC and the PS2's HDMI adapter. The PS2's adapter is an active adapter, and requires being plugged into a USB port. Strangely, when my PC is off and the adapter is receiving power (which happens when the PS2 is on since the adapter is powered by the PS2's USB port) the case fans on my PC begin to spin at a low speed. This even happens when my PC's power supply is turned off. As soon as I unplug the HDMI cable from my PC, or turn off the PS2, the fans stop spinning. While it is somewhat annoying, this isn't a huge deal to me. What's more concerning is what happens when the PC is on while the PS2 is off. If the PS2 is off, and I turn on my PC, something begins to make a high-pitched, almost inaudible squealing noise. I can't tell if it's coming from the adapter or the PS2 itself. In addition to this, the lights on the wireless controller adapter for the PS2 turn on, even though the PS2 is off. It seems as though the PC is sending power to the adapter through the HDMI port, which is then sending power into the USB port on the PS2, and causing it to malfunction. If I simply unplug the USB cable from the PS2, the issues go away. My current solution to the problem is to simply keep the adapter unplugged while the PS2 is off. This prevents the PS2 from going haywire when the PC is turned on. However, it is somewhat annoying having to plug in and unplug the USB every time I use the PS2. It seems as though the best solution is to eliminate the need for the HDMI splitter somehow, as it seems to be the cause of all the problems. There are three possible solutions I've thought up, and I would appreciate any input on the viability of these options. Perhaps its possible that the VGA input from my PC looked so bad because either the adapter was bad, or the VGA cable itself was so old. If I got a new cable and/or adapter, or even a displayport to VGA cable like this one here, is it possible that the PC display would look better using the VGA input on the monitor? Maybe the HDMI splitter I got is somehow faulty. Is power supposed to be able to travel between the devices the way it is? Maybe if I got a new or better splitter it would fix the issue. The most likely solution to work is unfortunately the one where I wait it out. I know I'm going to want to upgrade my monitor at some point and use my old monitor for a dual-monitor setup. When I get my new monitor, I can just make sure that it has either two HDMI ports, or an HDMI and displayport input. Any input on whether any of these options would work would be appreciated. If there's another solution you can think of, I'd love to hear it as well.
  3. Budget (including currency): tbc Country: uk Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi all. I'm hoping you guys might be able to help. I've got a shuttle sz87r6 with an i5 4570, 16gb ram, 500w psu and gtx 770. No cd drive. It works perfectly for what want (gaming at medium settings ish, Web, media etc). It's a nice case but I'm also a big retro gaming fan. What do you think of how well I could put this into a ps2 fat shell? The psu would be an issue I suspect, and potentially the gtx 770 too because of their size. Hopefully someone or a few people could give me a few pointers on how to fix the mother board safely inside (assuming it's small enough), and the gfx card too. If the gfx card is too big, I will measure for a low profile 1050ti. But what can I do about the psu? Any other points to consider? Thank you in advance Mike
  4. Hi, this is my first post, so if this is kinda bad, plz don't judge me. So, I was clearing out my Grandpa's house and then I found something.... The original Microsoft Intellimouse from 1996! I wanted to sell it, but I found no reference for it. I saw one that was never and costed 95€, but how I've said, it's never than mine. How can I tell it? Under the Microsoft logo is the text "with Intellieye" and on the right side is a cross. (Look at the picture from wikipedia) The thing is: It is white and looks brand new! It has even an original packaging! The adapter is there still too. How I've said: Do you know for how much I could sell it? It still works, btw Thx already!
  5. Short story, Me and a few friends are working together to make a PC inside a PS2 chassis (fat), we have been planning it out for a while now and just ordered an old PS2 to get accurate measurements because we can't find accurate measurements online, we are working off of one image from a forum 7 years ago and some guy's sketchup model, but so far we might have it theoretically working with an optical drive and internal FlexATX PSU, I attached some images and here is a PC parts list (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KH2cmq), there might be enough room if we lightly modify the heatsink for the GPU to have some of those controller port to USB adapters, as well as a rear 3d-printed or acrylic backplate with custom holes for the I/O and airflow cut into it. questions and ideas/flaws you might see would be appreciated, thanks!
  6. So pretty much I found this in a very old drawer and cant find anything about the 6 online, does anyone know?
  7. Hi peeps, I was wondering if someone is able to help me. I'm trying to get my old PS2 Slim back up and running, but I'm having some issues. I am using the 3-point sensor blocking trick, as I am using SwapMagic 3.6 (DVD). This is the current behaviour, also see the video at the bottom: 1. Push power button, turns on 2. Disc spins up, laser moves towards disc motor 2a. Sony Computer Entertainment logo/intro plays, with sound 3. Laser moves towards outer edge of disc 4. Disc keeps spinning at a low rate 4a. Black screen, does not load anymore This happens with all types of DVD/Playstation 2 discs that always used to work (both legal and illegal copies). Things I've tried: - Rearranging the sensor-blocking objects (they appear to be in the correct position, as moving it will stop the disc from spinning which means incorrect placement) - Cleaning laser lens with alcohol - Different disc rotation setting (fast vs. normal) - Different inputs and signal input cable type (RGB/RWY cables with and without adapter to SCART) - Different discs - Diagnostic mode (but that didn't do anything, not in the way it should work that is) - Trying to find similar posts/problems/topics, but none really seemed like that had the same situation It appears the gaphics part works fine, and it looks like it is probably able to read with the laser as well (laser positioning motor also looks to be working fine). I'm not getting the famous "Disc Read Error" line. Last time it properly worked was probably 8 years ago. It has been stored properly in working condition, disconnected from any power and signal cables and fairly free of dust and also has not been moved/bumped into in that time frame. I hope some of you are able to help me, or guide/link me in the right direction. I'm looking forward to playing some (at least for me) nostalgic games. Thank you in advance. Cheers, JB
  8. So I have been tasked with repairing a bunch of PS2s, mostly slims. My boss is under the impression that PS2s are of the devil and that all of the models of slims require different hardware. I don't believe that they do, but I would I would rather not have to check each model number EVERY TIME I repair one so I was wondering if anyone has any insight on the repair of PS2s in general, but more specifically PS2 Slims. Help is wonderful, but please, only leave a suggestion if you actually know what you're talking about. Thanks!
  9. Hello, I just got a new rack mountable monitor and keyboard but it doesnt have the adapter for the keyboard to ps2. Would any of you be able to help me find the adapter I need. I've been searching for a while but came up with nothing. The model for the monitor is GFS-1510a.
  10. Ok, so I'm not a newbie by any means to software, hardware, builds, and modding; but im very far from a pro. I recently had an idea that works in my head, but I cant figure out how I can do it well. I have a fat ps2 (scph 39001 no expansion) and a ps3 slim (160gb) I'm soon going to buy a ps4, but I dont know weather or not I should buy the original fat ps4 model, or the slim; depending on which will suit this build better. (I have no personal need for the pro) So here's the plan; an all in one "playstation." ps2 and ps3 run the native ps1 titles by themselves, so I dont need the ps1. The plan is to take all of the components out of the ps2, ps3, and ps4, to to fit into a custom PC case. I'm thinking 3 disk drive slots (one for each system) and maybe finding a way to run all 3 on 1 power supply, along with optimal cooling (water cooled maybe?) I know in the end it will still need 3 different display outputs... the ps2 will stay stock, maybe add the expansion or mod to a sata hdd. The ps4 will remain stock, for psn and stuff like that. The ps3 I plan to soft/hard mod, but that is all in due time. I cant figure out where to begin with this mod.. I think finding a case suitable for the job may be my first step. What do you guys think? What are your thoughts? I want this to be a unique, but visually satisfying build, with alot of versatility. Any thoughts are much appreciated!
  11. Hello guys, am Claude a newbie in this forum and I would like to share some pictures and fun from the htpc with ps2 box that I am building. It's nearly finished!!!!! 12. i am looking for a good ps2 emoulator so i can play need for speed underground 2 and mindnight club pls help
  13. Hello there, So, as the title says I have the idea of turning the old ps2 keyboard I got from my uncle into a keyboard that has the ability to also store data for me. I guess that I'll probably have to strip the PS2 cable into a shorter version of it. Then either plug that ps2 into a small processor/hub which combines (I know, the wrong word, but I don't know every single term... I am a semi-hobbyist) the signals from the keyboard with the in and output of the storage drive (I'll probably be going for an SSD due to the size of it, or a flash USB drive? I know that all of what I just said is probably just dumb-man talk. But that's why I'm here. Now I know a bit of soldering, the same uncle as before will teach me more of it this summer. I have some DIY skills and happy to learn so that won't be a problem. I live in Europe, and wouldn't even know where to get the needed parts, except the storage drive maybe. Hopefully, somebody can help me. Any help appreciated Greetings, Steak PS: A picture of the type of keyboard plus (inside behind the metal backplate and seethrough electronics)
  14. A month ago I found a Microsoft multimedia keyboard from ~2000 or 2001 that belonged to my uncle then aunt, this is not a USB keyboard, even though it has media functions like volume up/down, pause/play, mute etc. It was filthier than in the picture when I first took it, I used a vacuum before taking the picture, that's how dirty it was, I washed the top plate in the sink to clean it .
  15. Trying to connect my PS2 to the internet through my router. I keep getting a -611 error. I've tried broadband, LAN, auto and manual, but no luck It seems to fail during the DNAS authentication.
  16. i have a ST3120022A and its just not working, i have a FMCB card already and my harddrive doesnt seem to be picked up by it, it just gives an error.
  17. I decided to play GT3 again purely out of nostalgia. I used to play this game a lot when I was 12 and it was one of the few PS2 games I owned since they were really expensive at the time. This is the only Gran Turismo title I played. It’s basically a racing simulator game where you compete in different leagues with restricted events. The game also encourages you to tune your car with massive upgrades to gain an advantage over your opponents. You start the game with 18.000 credits. This leaves you with the option of buying rather slow cars like the Mazda Mx5, the PT Cruiser or the Yaris. It’s very frustrating because you can buy a Camaro for not much more cash than that and it’s a wayyy better car. Most people would go with the Mx5 because it’s basically the fastest and best handling car you can start with. But that’s a huge mistake! There’s a Yaris only championship early in the game that allows you to get enough cash to buy something like an Evo or a Camaro as a second car. I like how the game introduces model specific events like that so that you have to think twice before buying a car. Keep in mind that completing race events rewards you with a car. Interestingly, Japanese cars are rewarded like 99% of the time. So you’ll probably want your second car to be American or European, because there are some American/European only events. I wish I knew that sooner. Actually, it doesn’t matter. At one point or another you’ll win a race car from one of the championships in the amateur league. And then the game becomes rather...boring! You’ll just wipe the floor in most other events as opponents drive much slower cars. This is somewhat mitigated with event rules that restrict the type of car you can use. But it’s only a matter of time until you win another race car of a different type or model...and then another one...another one... To make things worse, a lot of the championships just feel the same (especially the ones with the same restrictions) because there aren’t many race tracks in the game. I am thinking maybe 7 or 8. The game just becomes a grind as you finish each event out of completionism. In one hand Gran Turismo 3 is everything that I remembered: a fun racing game with lots of different cars and an awesome sound track. On the other hand, the game loses its charm once you win your first race car and every other car in the game just feels slower. I just wish that the different car categories (with regards to performance) were represented more. For example, the Honda S2000 is a blast to drive but you never really have a reason to drive one because a much faster car can be won early into the game. How are the more recent Gran Turismo games compared to GT3?
  18. So i am looking for a blu ray player that is thinner than the 5.25' standard external bay and it must be shorter than 6.2' length wise, , must be sata, and also it must be motorized. why? for a ps2 pc conversion of course. i want to replace the original hard drive with a blu ray one (i will settle for dvd if no thin blu ray drives exist), however most drives are 5.25 in. and that is simply too big for the ps2. anyone know of a drive like this or know where to look? (other than newegg or amazon ofc)
  19. Hello, I am a fifteen year old boy from Malaysia which is neighbouring countries with Singapore. My goal is to build a fully custom PS2 with mod chips, water cooling 3d printed case. My question is there are many way to connect a ps2 to a 4K TV but which way is netter in quality and lower lag. The picture that I included is an example. I will not buy the product from the website or the price stated. BTW, does external upscaler help the quality of the picture and lag or is the built in upscaler in my 4K TV in home better?
  20. *To the mods, Please don't take this down anymore, I've managed to fix the problems on this post A little ambitious for a first time builder but this is something I've had in the works for a while. Since starting to watch LTT, other "TechTubers" and reading this forum about two years ago, I've wanted to build my own desktop. I originally wanted to build something very budget oriented with an AMD FX-6300 or FX-8320 and R9 280 in the inexpensive yet clean looking Corsair Carbide 200r to create what I thought was good combination of price to performance at trhe time However, after saving up more money and the release of the of new products, I fell in love with the original Bitfenix Pandora with it's unique curved side panels and LCD display on the front. Although there were many restrictions in choice of hardware due to the slim design profile of the Pandora at 160 mm wide, I was set on a matx build. I didn't mind the idea of the case only have a small selection of hardware to choose from as it helped me narrow the huge selection of available hardware. Then along with the sudden rise of clean looking black and white themed build, I also came across the Asus TUF Gryphon Z87/Z97 matx motherboard with the thermal armor that could easily be spray painted white. So I was set on a black and white themed build and even considered spray painting the inside of the Bitfenix Pandora and any GPU I decided to get. I started searching for more blackand white coloured parts like white Kingston HyperX RAM, Aerocool's Dead Silence LED fans, and Bitfenix's presleeved Fury line of PSUs. While waiting of deals and the right time to bite the bullet and start buying parts, Intel released their Skylake line of CPUs and matx motherboards began to raise in price and became more rare, expecially the Asus TUF Gryphon.(Note that Asus doesn't have the matx Gryphon for Z170/LGA1151). Soon my new desktop became a project that would be left on the backburner. Fast forward a bit in time I come across two really interesting builds that were logged on this forum that inspired my current build. The first one, Little Mac, really packed a punch (pun intented) as it featred the GTX 970 in an itx form factor made by gigabyte but was still small enough to only be 4.2L in Volume and could be hung behind a TV and be used an HTPC. Although the idea is nothing revolutionary nor original, I had already thought about stripping out one of my extra PS2s that my uncles had given me and was just laying around but didn't really think that buildinga PC inside of it was possble until I saw the second build, Potenially Unpossible, that used the Slim varient of the PS2. It was then I new that I would ditch the Bitfenix Pandora build for the novilty of having a PC running inside the case of a PS2. 24. I vaguely remember this game so bare with me here. It is a PlayStation 2 game I know for sure. I remember the case cover art had lady (main character) in a dark setting. The name of the game *may have* "light" or "dark" in the title name. (it could also have monsters in the name idk) The game had an over head perspective, similar to league of legends or dota. Almost a "spectating" point of view. You start off in a town with around 10 npc in walking distance. Most of which are quest givers and vendors. The setting is extremely dark, your near/in the woods. After talking to an npc, choosing where you want to go, the game loads you into an area with monsters. Most of them are zombie type monsters. After killing a certain number of zombies, (I believe), you have to choose to go back to the main town and spend money to buy better weapons. Most to all of the weapons were expensive. Health was hard to come by and you always felt under geared. At least, that's what I remember. Decent amount of level design and monster variety as you played the game. The inventory menu was very overwhelming as well. It was like a large spread sheet with many squares for items. Any idea?
  25. I just changed my ace 650W to a EVGA Supernova Nex650G and my Amd Hd7850 to a Galax GTX 970 HOF. When I turn it on now it doesn't automatically boot my ssd anymore. It just stays at the splash screen then if I leave it alone for a minute it come up with something saying Nvidia GeForce 970 VGA BIOS V5359 Version 84.04.36.00.23 then a black screen comes up. My usb MadCatz V5 keyboard doesn't work when I press Del and ps2 keyboard doesn't work either, the light comes on and have not been hot swapping it. Both keyboards work on other computers. I have taken out all the nonessential stuff sub stuff. When I hold down the del key and turn on the computer the motherboard make a clicking noise. I have tried jumping the Clr CMOS and removing the battery. I have uninstalled all Amd stuff. I HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT TRY NEXT!!!
