Good Morning, Recently I ran into an issue with my desktop PC of where the VGA light is on and is (now) preventing boot. 2 weeks ago I noticed a VGA light and about a 4-5 minute boot time. I figured, "Oh, it must be drivers" so I updated my drivers and still the same issue. I ignored it and lived with the 5 minute boot for about a week. I went out of town a few days later and when I returned the VGA light is always on, prevents boot and no screen output with NO ability to get to BIOS. I ventured on my own troubleshooting steps. - Drivers - Updates - BIOS Update - Removal of GPU, Cleaning, and Re-Installation - CMOS Reset - NVME Removal - Verified GPU works in another rig - Used a different known good boot drive When I removed my NVME drive I was able to enter BIOS with the GPU installed. I moved the NVME drive into another slot and was able to see a message saying "SAMSUNG 970EVO500GB NOT_FOUND" or similar, I put it back into its original slot and ran back into the issues. I got a Windows Error of "0x00000e" then it would enter a boot loop with the NVME installed in Slot 1 instead of Slot 0 I bought a new NVME SSD (970 EVO+ 1TB) that I verified works with an image of Win 10. Still nothing, I'm truly at a loss and looking for any help. First things first: With remotely I mean from within the same building, not from a completly different town or country. Wake on LAN isn't an option. I want to turn my PC on, not just wake it up from sleep, which is why WOL isn't an option. I have my PC in a different room and all of my peripherals are connected via Thunderbolt 3. Very similar to what Linus did with his and his wife's PC. Sadly it doesn't seem possible to power my PC on with my Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock. Silverstone sells a kit for ~25€ to do exactly what I am looking for, but I'm not too much of a fan of the included remote. I could probably hack something together to integrate a button into my desk or something, but was wondering if someone has a better idea. I'm open to basically anything. Just want to get some ideas flowing here The kit that Silverstone sells:

So, I built my pc last june and it works fine, but last November up until now, it sometimes doesn't turn on. I don't really know why but it occurs randomly and it really troubling specially when I have online class. When I return the pc to the place where ai bought it, it works fine. The peripheral lights are on but as you can see in the video, it doesn't turn on. And yes I have unplugged and plugged it back in. Hi, so it's been a while that I have to press my PC power button serveral times to power it on. Just today my PC won't turn on no matter how many times I press the power button. However, jump starting from mb works fine. If I need to know what is causing the problem how can I troubleshoot this issue? Thanks.

Hi folks, I have a MSI GF63 THIN 9SC-240IN and I guess my battery is going bad and I would like to confirm it. At the end of the day I shut down my laptop at around 40-60% juice and I make sure to unplug it before shutting it down. But next day when I power it on the POST screen comes up and the laptop immediately shutsoff/power down. I then have to plug in my charger/adapter and then turn it on. When I turn it on the battery level remains the same when I turned it off the previous night. I am guessing as the laptop is a little over 3-years old the lithium ion battery is going bad. Can anyone confirm me if this is the case?

So I'm building this project from just used parts, got a cheap i7 6700k, 2x8 ddr4 3200 (lpa is 1511, so it only takes up to 2333 unless OC) I also have a single 2333 DDR4 which is seen on the photo. When I got the card it was new, plugged everything and the Mobo "turned" for like 3 seconds, and then rebooted (I guess so, because you could hear the current from the PSU, and the lights from the Rams restarted). I knew the PSU was old so I went ahead and purchased a new one, went home plugged everything, it turned on for like 2 seconds, and then no power at all, I haven't tried the previous PSU before I make more research, I have tried with shorting the pins and with the actual button but no luck. I searched around here and found something similar, stating the solution is a BIOS reset, but they all have a dedicated reset CMAT button, what's your opinion on this guy's?

So I built my first pc and everything worked! (For about 2 minutes) unfortunately after installing Windows and setting up to update everything my computer died. To be clear it did not die while installing anything (to my knowledge). I did not tell the pc to download anything, when I pressed check for updates the system crashed and now has the same problem - won’t post. I’ve tried resetting all the ports, but nothing. I get power to everything, all fans on, gpu on cpu warming up, but no post no beeps. No display. Tried multiple monitors, tried removing the cmos battery, so far so not good. What to do now? I’m trying to see if I can RMA the mobo..... but I don’t want to wait another 2-3 weeks I’m thinking of trying to flash the bios but idk how to do that. asrock x570 taichi amd ryzen 3700x geforce rtx 2070 super gskill ripjaws 3600 ddr4 (2x8) Noctua d15 cooler

OH $H!T! I put my pc on sleep and now it will not power on. The "clear cmos" blue led lights up, and I have unplugged everything but the power for cpu and motherboard. All IO ports are empty and all internal ports and such are empty. Where I clear the bios and use a key to start up the computer (I thought the power button or wires went bad) it hear a click sound.... more like a fan trying to start but can't. It is coming from the psu. Is my PSU bad? FYI GPU is out as well. MSI Z97s Krait Edtion i5 4690k 1050w EVGA PSU

Hey, recently I just purchased a powercolor r9 390 for my new build, but I wanted to test it on my old build first. Specs: i5 750 (3.5ghz oc) msi p55-cd53 mobo 4gb ram geforce 210 400w psu so so I took out the GeForce 210, put in the r9 390 and it did not power on. HDMI cable is confirmed working. I noticed there was an 8 pin plug as well as a 6 pin plug. My psu did not have an 8 pin plug but I figured that 150w was enough to power on. (75w PCIe connector, 75w 6 pin) (am I wrong here??) I can't tell if the graphics card turned on as it has the quiet thing in which the fans will not spin until the card is at 60 deg C. But the bios did not even flash. Is it because i only have 4gb ram, when the box it came with said the minimum was 8gb ram?? Help. I want to make sure the graphics card is working fine. Thanks! All help and tips appreciated!!

Hello guys,I've just put up together my first PC ever.I've googled for hours now but can't get my problem solved. So here's the situation:The system is powering up normally, all ssds/hdd were detected, all case and cpu fans are running. I'm actuall writing this using the new RIG, however with onboard graphics. The GPU won't start at all. Fans are not spinning and there's no lights either. As this is my first build, I'm thinking (and hoping) I only made a silly mistake and forgot to connect something, but to be honest I'm starting to think the card is dead. All pieces are (supposed to be) brand new, all ordered from Amazon including the GPU.Here's the set up:i7 7700kAsus Z270E32GB HyperX 2133mhzSSD Samsung 960 Evo 500gb (system)SSD Samsung 850 Evo 1TBHDD WD 3TBPower supply be quiet pure power 9 700wGainward GTX 1080 GLHI've tried removing and installing the GPU about three times already. Also checking on the BIOS, the GPU is not being detected.Any insight would be appreciated.

Hiya, I have just replaced my air cooler with a new All in one Water Cooler. I took the motherboard out of the case and removed the old cooler. During that process I scratched the bottom of the motherboard a little bit (I hope that isn't the cause of my problem). A lot of cables had been taken out so i could do a bit of cable management. And then i placed everything back the way it was before everything went upside down, just with a new cpu cooler. With everything together I then start my Pc up and then for about 10 seconds all the fans are running and everything seems to be working apart from the monitors not responding. After those 10 seconds or so (rough estimate) the Pc shuts down. And so i thought great troubleshoot time. And the pc started up again all by itself, and then with another 10 seconds it turned off again. It justs goes through a cycle. What I have troubleshooted: Reset Cmos battery with both jumper and taking the battery out and putting it back in. Unpluged Graphics card, hard drives and Optical Drives Checked cables Reseated Ram

I've been researching new home theater receivers lately because an old Panasonic one I was using bit the dust on it's digital input. I like the idea of having a receiver that supports Wake on Cast like my Android TV does. I see that a lot of Onkyo receivers and a couple of Sony receivers have Chromecast built-in, but what is unclear is if I need to keep the receiver powered on in order for Chromecast to work. EDIT: If it matters, my TV is a LeEco Super4 X43 Pro, which I think supports HDMI-CEC? I'm not sure.

Recently my PC has been giving me this error message upon powering up. The PC also occasionally freezes while I am playing Titanfall 2, but no other games. I am pretty sure my 550w PSU is adequate for my computer, but maybe I'm wrong. Any help/advice is appreciated! (the photo attached is not from my PC) Since the problems occur while playing TF2, would turning down the video settings help? Part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/G7YtLD

My stationary computer, from an totally off state, is struggling to power on. Some times when I press the start button nothing happens, and other times it starts after ca 12sek after push. It is not stuck in bios screen or loading windows. I think it simply will not start the start up processes at all. Things I have tried: I have tried take the power cable out and in. Sometimes helps, but probably just accidental. I have tried the button on the PC case and on the Mb. I have checked the bios clock. I have tried to change the placement on the psu connectors. I have heard it can be the CMOS battery, but the bios clock is ticking perfectly. Or maybe the PSU, but I got no real clue on how to troubleshoot. Specs: GPU: gtx 980 x2 CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K PSU: 1200 Coolermaster plat. Storage: 240GB ssd x2 (main drive with windows in raid 0) 2TB hdd Ps. I know some of it are stupid, but I got a good deal. Hi! At the end of last year I built a new pc, over the last few months I systematically experienced a rather exotic problem: the pc won't turn on if the psu has been connected to the wall for long. To power it on I have to unplug the psu for an hour at least. To me it looks like a condenser in the psu that need to be discharged to power on the pc. On top of that, if the pc is on for more than 6 hours (which it tends to do) suddently it will power off, for no apparent reason. That got me thinking, is the psu bad or dying? Or is the problem somewhere else? computer specs: AMD Ryzen 2600, Nvidia gtx 1060, 16gb crucial ballistix sport, asrock b450m pro, wd black pcie ssd, PSU: Cooler Master MWE gold 650 full modular. Just got most of the parts for my new system (missing case and SSD) so I figured I'd put it all together on the motherboard box to make sure everything works. The system powers on fine but never posts. I've tried with no gpu and no ram. All have the same result. No beeps, no display, nada. I know the system is powering on and staying on as the GPU fans and LEDS start spinning. The CPU fan doesn't spin, but the cpu is warming up. The board doesn't switch on if there's no cpu. Specis: Asus prime z370-a i7 8700k Strix GTX 1080 16GB vengeance LPX 2400MHz Corsair RM650x The board has LEDs on it to indicate how far through post it is (CPU, RAM, VGA, BOOT) none of these light up at all. The RGB LEDS on the back of the board light up as soon as the PSU is turned on, as does the white power led on the board. Both the on board power button and shorting the pins will power it up.

I put together a new pc yesterday and everything booted up fine, posted, and I installed windows. As I was installing ASRock RGB LED, the system shut down completely and no longer boots. I will note, the RGB light on the board was red while just sitting plugged in (not booted up). Now that same light is a yellowish-green and if I hold down the power button the system does not boot and that light disappears, and when I let up the light reappears. I have the same wiring as before and everything was powered properly. I might also add that I tested the PSU with a paperclip and it is fully functional. I also reset the BIOS and CMOS, the motherboard reacted the same way when the power button was pressed. I'd like to discuss about my situation. I guess this post should be in trouble shooting by i don't get any kind of help over there, so please admin let me get some help first, then i'll delete/move this topic myself So my problem is my laptop wasn't detecting any charger (lenovo ip110) i wasn't sure if it's mobo or battery problem, my laptop also doesn't turn on without the battery but after hours of troubleshooting i was able to run the laptop without battery, so the trick is even if battery has 0% charge, the laptop try to turn on and then shut down even if the charger is plugged in but when it tries to turn on i just unplug the battery, and the laptop run smoothly without the battery, and the battery indicator says "no battery is detected" so looks like charger is working also ac is supplying current smoothly to the motherboard but battery doesn't take any charge, Before buying any battery i'd like to know is it battery who's faulty that taking no charge? or this is some kind of motherboard issue that it can't supply power to the battery? Currently i'm using this laptop and posting from it, so i can just use this trick and turn this laptop on Thanks

Last night when I was finnished using my laptop, I turned it off and unpluged the power cabel (I have it pluged in all the time). The laptop worked perfectly. This morning when I tried to boot it up, it showed no signs of life. Usually the power button lights up but not this time. I pressed the little Nova button on the side of the laptop using a paper clip, still not booting. Disasebled it, removed the battery and tried with only the power cable, still no go. I have done every electrixty drain method listed online without any results. I noticed that the little LED no longer lights up when I plug in the AC cord, so it might be the PSU? Idont have access to another AC cabel to test it out but I doubt its due to it because it worked normally 8 hours earlier. Anyone have any ides what could I try next? If it can't be saved, any recomendation for a laptop up to 1000€ for collage/work?

Hi So I've been working with an old hp z400 workstation and I somehow managed to put it in to a normal atx case. The only problems that presist is the IO plate's kinda messed up which I think I can fix. My question to you is: The z400 motherboard has a old power on/off switch connector insted of the 2 pins a modern motherboard has. The problem is that the case has the modern variant and the motherboard the old variant which has 9x2 pins needed. How could I fix this? Should I try and remove the power button with the connector from the old chassi and mount it in the newer chassi? Any ideas? Many thanks!

Computer turns on but doesn't show ANYTHING on the monitor
trtiich posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hi everyone, So last night I was gaming and everything was perfectly fine. NO problems whatsoever. This morning I turned on my computer and it starts up, but literally nothing is shown on my monitor. I think it boots fully to the windows welcome screen (I have a password and it can't go any further) because when I try to turn it off I need to hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. I have read that maybe my RAM is playing up or the motherboard or the GPU, but literally last night everything was working normally while playing video games. And I also don't suspect the PSU, because it actually boots just without showing. And yes, the cables are checked and all the switches are on. What do you think it could be? Regards, Milosh. -
Hello everyone, please excuse me if I created this thread in the wrong place or anything, i'm new here. I ask of a moderator to move my thread if posibile into the correct thread area. Ever since I built my rig, I have these issues when turning it on or turning it off. 1. When I power on my PC, sometimes there is no signal from the video card onto the monitor, sometimes it turns on just fine, sometimes there's no video signal. After a manual restart from the button, the videocard signal comes on. Please be aware that I am running the monitor through a DVI-I port. I didn't find a fix for this, I tried a lot of things but none of them worked, so I think that the problem is somewhere else. 2. Sometimes, when I turn off my computer, it turns itself back on, sometimes after a few seconds after the shutdown, sometimes minutes or hours after. I didn't find a fix for this either, I just turn off the computer and then turn off the power supply from the button. Can anyone help me out with this? I believe that these two issues might be related to one another. Here are my specs: Gigabyte Z86-DS3H (I don't know if it's Rev 1.0 or 2.0 or whatever, it doesn't say anything on the box) Intel Core i5 4440 Haswell, 3.1 Ghz. 4x4GB HyperX Beast DDR3 2400Mhz CL11 Dual Channel Gainward GeForce GTX 970 Phantom 4GB DDR5 256-bit SSD Kingston SSDNow V300 60GB SATA-III, OCZ Trion 100 Series 120GB SATA-III and an HDD WD Blue 1TB SATA-III 7200 RPM 64MB Corsair CX Series CX650M, 80+ Bronze, 650W And a case Game Daemon 6003.

Hi guys, got a strange issue with my motherboard. It's not a major issue, but one that really, really annoys me. When I press the power button on my computer, the device appears to start up normally. Case lights turn on, fans spinning... for about 2 seconds. Then it switches back off, with no initialisation or POST. Another 3-5 seconds later the computer then powers on normally, as if nothing ever happens. To remedy the problem the first time I reset the BIOS using the jumper pins, and it worked! But it doesn't end there - a week later, after I had to force the computer to power off, the problem came back, without a single BIOS setting touched. Just something to scratch your heads over - I didn't even know where to start on googling this thing.
