  1. I've seen some youtube reviews about two monitors i'm interested: https://magedok-shop.myshopify.com/collections/portable-monitor/products/17-3-inch-2k-qhd-120hz-ips-usb-c-with-pd-fast-charge-portable-monitor-m173a https://www.amazon.es/dp/B07QQKGLTB/?coliid=I1LNVNLW7UB9SC&colid=K2RAIP76PL67&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it The G-STORY one seems to be only available in Spain (where I'm from). The requirements I'm looking for: -1440p -17.3 inches or over -freesync -over 120hz I'd go with the Magedok as it's IPs and TN stinks... but is there any other option around?
  2. So I'm planning on making a small pc build made for the sole purpose of playing Rocket League with 4 player split-screen. I'll be using 4 wired ps4 controllers. Basically I'm trying to make a console(ish) sized pc. I have an FX-8350 that's just laying around and want to give it a final home (DISCLAIMER: I am NOT planning on overclocking it and will in fact be UNDER-clocking it, most likely starting at 3GHz). I have an extra ssd and 8GB DDR3 RAM stick that I can use. I've already pick out the remaining parts (see list below). My question is what would be the best motherboard for this purpose? Should I spend a little extra on the motherboard? Could I "cheap" out on it? I tried looking for a mini atx board but those are apparently non-existent for AMD but if you find one let me know so I can get a smaller case since I want a small pc that I can take to LAN parties, etc. The motherboard I'm planning on defaulting to is here just in case this post doesn't yield any results. 3. Hi all, I currently have a MSI SG60 stealth laptop from a couple of years ago. For the longest time this has done me really well and I have been very pleased with it but recently I have bought a proper desktop pc. Now that I have a desktop I am thinking of changing up my laptop which is a 17" laptop that weighs a ton and is quite cumbersome. I was looking at something comparable in specs to my current laptop, something in the 15 inch range with a 1050 and an i5 just to play overwatch and do a bit of intensive coding for uni and work. What I found interesting is that computers like this can be up to £1200, the same cost I paid for my original laptop. I am surprised that the price for performance has not decreased over the years. If anyone has any suggestions for a good laptop to exchange for my current one or answers as to why there hasn't really been a price drop for this performance, please can you let me know? P.S. I was looking at the MSI Ghost along time ago but that seems to have disappeared and was about the same price as the stealth at the time.
  4. Hello everyone! I'm having trouble on deciding what I should do in regards to laptop hunting. I have a powerful workstation that I built last year (i7-7700K, 16GB RAM, GTX 1070), and I'm heading off to college to study computer science. I've been really intrigued by the ultrabook market recently, but I've also been a bit frustrated searching around for what to get. Here's what I know for sure: 1. I really don't need the gaming potential, hence the workstation I built. 2. I love the idea of having an ultra-portable laptop. I find myself getting around to more places with my job(s) and really hating the bulkiness of what I'm working on. 3. Performance and battery life are critical. So, with these in mind, I'm down to three laptops: The Dell XPS 13 9370, Huawei's Matebook X Pro, and Lenovo's Thinkpad X1 Carbon. I'd love to hear other recommendations and general advice regarding my picks for the laptop. Any help is appreciated, Cheers!
  5. Interested in purchasing a gaming laptop here in the near future. I'm looking for something slim and powerful. Quite honestly im pretty new to this, all of my laptops have been passed down. all information is helpful. trying to budget this around 2k few that have caught my eye http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154295&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Gaming+Laptops-_-N82E16834154295&gclid=Cj0KEQjw0_O-BRCfjsCw25CYzYoBEiQAqO9BDMTTq7xlF8ofmhq3lKAx9PVoPRybE8fiADjwIUr7x48aAkF_8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-blade https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=aorus x5 v6
  6. Good day all; looking for recommendations from the community on my next laptop purchase. My Surface Pro 2, after 5 years of heavy use, is starting to wear out and isn't up to task. I plan to save until it finally dies, but I'm planning for my next purchase. Use case: highly portable device for personal computing, light productivity, and light gaming. I have a desktop at home for real gaming and work, but having a portable device that can help me get some personal work done and also play a few games is important to me. I do travel a bit, and I do carry my dedicated work laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon) with me as well, so battery life and portability (weight and thinness) are somewhat important. Unlike many, the Surface form factor worked for me, as I would use the device as a media-consumption tablet around the house, or just an extra screen to monitor my stream. However, the biggest reason I'm not running out and buying a Surface Pro 6 right now? no USB Type-C Therefore, I'm seeing what other options are out there. Requirements: i5, 8gb RAM, 128gb SSD is fine. I/O is pretty important, ideally USB Type C, USB Type A, and then dedicated display options, SD card slot, more USB, in that order. Battery life must be around 7-8 hours of medium use, as airline travel isn't good for power availability, and carrying 2 bricks suck (hence the desire for USB-C; i could reduce to 1 brick AND potentially use the docking station I already own as well). Portability is key, so the thinnest and lightest of whatever gets these specs. Gaming performance doesn't need to be much more than running FTL or Into The Breach, but being able to run something like Civ V on low settings wouldn't hurt. My budget is between $1000-$1500 USD. Please let me know if there are any questions, and thank you in advance. So far, the other options I've seen lose out pretty harshly on battery life.
  7. Hello friends! I've been looking around for a nice pair of headphones or earphones for about 100$ (can be less, and don't mind paying just a little more if it's REALLY worth it). I'll be using these during my daily bus commutes and at home to study... I'm not an audiophile by any means but I do know that I want headphones/earphones that put a smile on my face, a worthy upgrade from my Sony MDREX50LP earphones... Something that truly does sound nice! There are some things I do demand though, apart from the sound quality... -They MUST be comfortable (I'm extremely picky, and have pretty big ears) -They need to be as portable as possible (they must be stored in my backpack when I'm at school and not using them, and this is why I wrote "headphones/earphones" cause maybe you'll suggest earphones for the portability, although I do know headphones just all around sound better most of the times) -I'd like them to not be too bulky/flashy (just... as "not weird" as possible, although this is not a priority by any means...) I've owned a pair of Sony MDRZX600 and while I did enjoy the sound, the comfort just made me return them... Hope you guys can help me out here! I'll be waiting for a reply hehe
  8. Hey, Im trying to finalize on a setup for college. My top options include a dell xps 15 with an external gpu (Probably an rx580) and a ASUS ROG Zephyrus s. I only need my laptop for about 1-2 classes only, I will be using a tablet rest of the time. I produce music and hence only NEED a stronger cpu, however I do game (Expect AAA titles) and am expecting to be playing alot of lan parties. I have a gaming laptop and a desktop, so I am not unknown to the short battery life life. Suggest which one you guys thinks makes more sense and why. Also, would love to hear personal experiences of people with those devices.
  9. Hey guys, I was hoping that you could help me with deciding what the best route is in terms of ease and performance. I have to CAD for an engineering team at my school. We are building our own race car, so we need to model as much of it as we can in order to design it properly. I have an excellent desktop at home that I would like to take advantage of instead of my laptop. 1. Unplug, transport, and set up every time. 2. Use remote desktop to access my computer to take advantage of its processing power and to work on some projects at home. 3. Just use my laptop. 4. Leave the desktop there, though I can't use it during the week. 5. Other options? I would appreciate any feedback on this.
  10. Hello fellow forum users, there's tons of these posts out in this thread about people looking for laptops for going back to school/uni, so I'm going to be direct to the point. I'm looking for a portable machine that can handle intense web browsing (over 20 or so chrome tabs), document and presentation editing (basically handle a office suite no problem), software development in particular it has to be capable to run VS Code, Node.JS, a C/C++ compiler and python with some AutoCAD thrown in there, the rest I can do by offloading the workload on the home server and workstation, it would be nice if it had a touchscreen with a stylus but that's the last of my worries. The machine has to be capable of running 6 to 8 hours on battery life. From what I've gathered from my past experiences I would need a 128, preferably 256 GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and a decent CPU. I would be buying the machine either from France or Republic of Moldova, the budget is 800 euros (nvidia why you must destroy my wallet). I was considering buying a 2nd hand MacBook Pro 13" from 2015 but what are your thoughts? Any suggestions for what device I should go for?
  11. so i have had dealing with couple 17 inch laptops, including the older r2 alienware model, and another older dell 17 inch, and for me its not much to carry around, i know some people prefer lighter and much thinner, but i really dont mind once i have a backpack that can hold it, and also i am in college but i dont take my laptop around much, but i am just wondering if anyone here on forums has a new model alienware would tell me how they have been handling the 17 inch, if its tough, also i hear its about same weight and a bit slimmer than old model but i would like to hear from someone who owns it, and yes i know linus has a review i have watched it a lot, but just want review before deciding on a 17 instead of a 15 inch
  12. Hi guys, I am from Croatia (a fucked up place in middle of nowhere in Middle/East South Europe) and I need a new gaming laptop. I have a budget of 1065 € (which is around 1200$ or 960£). My primary and main game is World of Warcraft: Legion (I sometimes do like Minecraft and BF3, and like Heroes & Generals). I do not really know what specs I can get for the price but I would like the laptop to be portable, and what I mean by that is that I would like it to be 15,6" (I am fine with like 14" as well), and not be like 20 TONS ... If anyone here can help me with my decision I would be more then grateful! D.Riddle Rupnik aka. Sarma/ Sarmica
  13. Which laptop would be more comfortable for a college setting. Might be using cad software on it even though I have a desktop I am commuting so I might need to use it on the laptop. People tell me a 15 in laptop is too big. Opinions on this?
  14. My brother is entering college soon, and he needs a laptop for school use. He wants to be able to play AAA games like Overwatch or the Witcher 3, and he doesn't really care if the settings are at high or low. This is without sacrificing good battery life and portability, as he will be biking to school carrying his laptop, and will most probably need to get through the whole day without having to charge. Given this, my primary option is the XPS 15 9550 with the FHD screen and the 84 WHr battery to fulfill these things. http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/xps-15-9550-laptop-b/fncwx1630b However, the inner gamer and techy in me is screaming at my choice because of how the XPS 15 has not been refreshed yet with Pascal or Kaby Lake, but this may just be my wants and not really what my brother wants. So is the XPS 15 the best choice, or are there Pascal laptop choices which manage to match the battery life of the XPS 15 or at least go through a whole school day? (I originally considered the MSI GS43VR, but the battery life doesn't seem good enough) P.S. No, getting a desktop and a laptop is not an option.
  15. Obviously most people would hook up a mouse instead, however, in a lot of occasions there would be no room to use one. So a lot of gaming laptops only have a trackpad, which we all know is horrible if you're doing anything like gaming or you just do a lot of typing. Why do these gaming laptops not have trackpads or mouse nipples? From my personal experience, I've had much better luck with playing video games with them than I have with a trackpad. Even when I do a lot of web design/web dev, I'd still much prefer having the trackpoint because it's close to my pointing finger on the keyboard and doesn't require me to keep moving my right hand off the keyboard. I just wanted to see what everyones opinion is on this after watching the review of the MSI GT80 Titan laptop. Could've saved so much room if they ditched the trackpad...
  16. Hello users of LTT forums! Just curious about what you would choose. I don't whether to consider this a game or not, but I'm going to anyway. Rules: 1. $250 USD (give or take a few) or equivalent, for example $275 CAD, £155 GPB, and €190 Euros. 2. Audio equipment consists of products you use to listen to audio, such as headphones, speakers and Amp/DAC combos. 3. You can only have ONE product of a specific "class" such as headphones and amps. (You may not have a speaker + headphone or headphone + IEM combo etc.) 4. The $250 USD budget includes shipping, any tax, and price of the product. 5. Products must be purchased as "NEW" from a reputable site, such as amazon. These headphones, IEMS or speakers are basically the only product you can use to hear audio from your phone or PC. Some people don't listen to music when out of the house, and others may really need portable headphones or IEMs. Let me start this off, This is hard for me, because I really enjoy listening to music when out of th house, but I have specific wants for home-use headphones haha. I'm going to choose the AD700x + Syba Amp/DAC = $241 USD for me. Well, this game flopped hard. Haha
  17. I'll be building a new system soon, but in the mean time I want to order a new case for my existing one. Here is what's inside currently that could effect size limitations: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H i5-4670k with Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 ASUS GeForce 8GB Dual-Fan OC Edition GTX 1070 I'm not super concerned about price, but do want to limit expenditures. I'd also like to avoid replacing any components unless it's critical to obtaining a reasonably portable case. What is mostly important to me is a nice compromise of portability and thermals, and enough I/O to continue to use my Oculus Rift (using hubs is ok if needed). Bonuses include RBG, glass, front-facing HDMI/USB 3.0, but not necessary. I know Linus has shown some excellent tiny cases in the past, but it's easier when you are building a system around a case like I will be for my next one. Right now I"m trying to find a case for this system while minimizing the cost so both my wife and I can take our machines to LAN parties. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Current case Thermaltake CHASER MK-1 ATX Edit 2: There will be one HDD and one SSD in there as well. Edit 3: I'm looking myself as well, but suggestions for a decent ITX board to expand my case options is also appreciated. Edit 4 (copy/paste of my post below): I'm looking at ITX board options and hitting some snags. Most boards I'm finding say they support up to 16GB 1600 Mhz DD3 memory. I have 16GB 1866 Mhz. Is this going to be a problem? The other issue is USB ports. Mouse + KB + Rift Sensor x3 + Rift HMD = 6 USB minimum (most of those being USB 3). I'm fine with less if a single USB port with a hub will be able to support the rift and all it's sensors. Idk what kind of badwidth issues I'll encounter doing that as I've never tried or researched it. Any advice when it comes to an ITX board that'll meet my needs here would be great. It looks like there are plenty of excellent portable ITX cases out there so I might need to switch to that form factor. A lightweight portable ATX solution is still preferred, but as long as I can total cost Under $200, and preferably closer $125 then I'm fine with it.
  18. Looking for the best laptop for college as an Engineering student. I am commuting so their may be times I may not be able to get to my desktop at home. So I was looking for something that is preety portable and small but also is good for using AutoCad software. preferably something where i can upgrade RAM and Storage in the future. It probably would need a dedicated graphics card as well.
  19. I don't know if this thread is in the right place. If not, could someone please move it/inform me? I currently have an InWin GRone ATX full tower that fits all my hardware needs. It's just that... it's huge and I can't bring it anywhere. I'm looking to buy an ATX mid tower case centered around portability and minimalist design, but I want to make sure I can fit all of my hardware components inside of it without the universe blowing up and what not. List of hardware I would like to keep in the new case: MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard (ATX) GeForce GTX Titan GPU Asus Xonar Essence STX (sound card) (1) SSD Drive (1) HDD Drive (1) Blu-Ray player/burner The case also needs to have: Good support for 140mm fans If it could have water cooling support for the future, that would be great, too. But I have a feeling that's a bit of a pipe dream, and I don't truly need that anyway. So... is it possible? If so, what should I get?
  20. hi all !, iam currently upgrading my MSI ge620dx, and thinking about investing time and money in an external graphics card adapter. my question is: just how effective and how much worth it the external graphics card for a developer/ pen-tester on the move? (i know that most of you will say that its not worth it as iam on the move, but still iam considering it) laptop specs: i7 2760qm 3.00GHz 16gb 1333MHz 1TB SSHD 1TB HDD geforce GT555m any opinions will be more than appreciated
  21. Need some recommendation on backpack for my 17 inch laptop. My JanSport backpack can barely fit the laptop in verically. So far I found this backpack from Swissgear, is there other option that is best bang for the buck?. My laptop is a MSI 17.3" GE72 Apache Pro-001 Gaming Notebook.
  22. My friend plays league of legends, world of warcraft, and a few other non demanding games. He would like to be able to run some of the recent first person shooters and maybe some of the new rpg games. I know that he won't be able to play these at max settings with this price point, but medium settings would be a great target. I don't care about what team we chose (green/red nvidia/amd). The only thing I believe is necessary is that it should be somewhat small so that he can do his school work without many problems. No 17 inch ones either, they are too big. What laptop should he get?
  23. My dad needs a new laptop/tablet, and I needs to run windows. He will be using it for business, and if it could use a sim card that would be great. What are some of your suggestions. Also I want the device to work on any network eg: (unlocked). I was looking at the microsoft surfaces possibly.
  24. Nothing like a bit of elbow grease not as bad as full body mouse chair, but still...Work it... Ampy is a wearable device that captures energy from your motion, turning it into power to charge your phone or any USB-powered device , captures the kinetic energy that is produced by movement, enabling it to charge your devices as fast as a wall outlet would. The charger’s internal battery stores about a week’s worth of physical activity, which is ready for use for several months after the fact. However, if you want to go down the more traditional route, Ampy does have a Micro USB port to allow for charging from a wall outlet. Ampy will charge iPhones, Android phones, and any other USB-powered device. AMPY has a USB port for output and a Micro USB port for input, just in case you want to charge it from a wall outlet and use it as a regular power bank. Walking 10,000 steps, bicycling for one hour, or jogging for 30 minutes should produce three hours of battery life for your smartphone. Alternatively, the same activities will give you 24 and 72 hours of extra battery life for your smartwatch and fitness band, respectively The retail price its going after is 125$ per piece with all the accessories , Ampy is still under Kick starter & has left 11 days(from this post day) to go & has already reached 241,478 $ already backed The charge depends on intensity of one's movement & effort to it ,so results per person & per activity will vary between person to person.. if you wanna get in on the wagon , Pledge $95 and you’ll get the Ampy, as well as a protective sleeve, clip, and armband. Backers should receive their Ampy chargers in June of next year, after which the Ampy and the Ampy Accessory Pack will go for $95 and $125, respectively. Hey, Atleast this ones a bit portable compared to Nokia's previous solution.. yes that is a real thing.. The team behind AMPY has worked hard to keep the device's size as small as possible. It currently sits at 2.5" x 2.5" x 0.75" and weighs 140g, a footprint that makes it less than half the size of a modern smartphone but with the same weight. Because of its size, AMPY houses a meagre 1,000 mAh battery that charges as you move throughout the day Ampy app screenshot *Pew Pew* This Charging solution is great for those who are going off the grid where power is not not readily available via a plug, great for off site camping & hiking imo.. Great invention finally on a portable sized device, Post your opinions/thoughts/rants & trolls down beloooow...
