Hello! I have a Raspberry Pi 3 sitting in a drawer and need a cheap NAS, so would like to use it for that. I have 0 experience with Pi and NAS, so I read a lot of guide over the past few days, but I find most of them very rushed and leaving a lot of questions, so decided to come here for help. I am aware that the Pi 3 is old and will probably be slow, but I am ok with dropping some files on it and letting it do its thing overnight. So, I hope that you can answer this for me with a detailed guide or point me to one you are sure works: How can I turn my Pi 3 into a 2 disk (RAID 1) NAS server that I can access over the Internet (for example, to upload pictures that my girlfriend will be able to see on her phone in another country)? Thank you and I really appreciate your help!

How to Install RetroPie on Le Potato Libre Computer Board (AML-S905X-CC) Step 1: Download belenaEtcher from: https://www.balena.io/etcher Download image file from: http://share.loverpi.com/board/libre-computer-project/libre-computer-board-aml-s905x-cc/image/retropie/ Format your SD card and use belenaEtcher to write the image file to the SD card. Step 2: Hook up the Libre board to ethernet, power and then run: sudo apt install rapidjson-dev Wait for this to install for 2 minutes and then install emulationstation: sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh Go to: Manage Packages > Manage core packages > Emulationstation > Install from source This will take 20 minutes to install. Reboot after install from the emulationstation menu. Power off and remove the ethernet cable. Step 3: Insert wired USB controller and power on the board. Configure the controller. Power off the board. Step 4: Copy game ROM files to a folder named "retropie" on a USB thumb drive. Organize game ROM files into system folders like NES, SNES and N64. Insert the USB thumb drive into the Libre board and power it on. Wait for 2 minutes while the games are copied. Power off the Libre board and remove the USB thumb drive. Step 5: Power on the Libre board and play RetroPie emulated games. Notes: Press the Hotkey (recommend setting it as Select) and Start buttons simultaneously to quit any game.

For reference: Here's my current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/D2Dj4s Budget (including currency): up to $300 total for cameras and software, prefer software to be one and done payment, not sub, but I get it if sub required. Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Internal case security, meant to passively capture so in event of PC tower theft can possibly catch incriminating evidence of criminal. I have an ATC PC CASE with all black interior, so i figure there will be more than enough room for cameras in the PC case to tuck away. I'm in no way a tech nerd... I want to hook up one, or even a few (if it's cheap enough) to my PC tiny cameras that I figure are built onto PCB's like this one (onyl for reference: Amazon.com: Raspberry PI Camera OV7251 Sensor with Global Shutter External Trigger Stream Mode 0.3MP Frame Rate up tp 158fps 8bit 10bit rawdata Format for Raspberry Pi 4B 3B+ 3B 3A+ CM3+ CM3 Pi Zero W : Electronics But I don't know how to make it compatible with my windows 10 home, and wouldn't be sure what software to use to log continuous streams of recordings (the anti-theft use case comes in here). For the cameras, i want the highest quality video in the tiniest, most discrete formfactor i can get and still hook up to my motherboard without addition like... Pi Boards if possible, jut the camera hooked up to my MO if possible please. For the software, i'm hoping its reliable, and would prefer if it was logged both on my storage devices and on the cloud simultaneously. Ideally, it auto deletes on-site (on my pc storage) stored mp4 data after X number of GB, or after X number hours to make room for new recordings and all this is done with auto re-recording after it does this. A sort of set and forget kind of thing you know? Am I crazy? Is this even possible? What suggestions or problems do you foresee? Any product or software recommendations? Any ideas how I connect it into my PC case discretely but with a good picture of a possible theive through my glass side panel?

Hello, I have a 4GB Raspberry Pi 4 which is setup as a SMB file server (a single external HDD over USB) and a Plex Media server. The data on the drive is not mission critical, but I'd feel safer knowing I had RAID redundancy. However since a Pi4 is a low power device, using software raid introduces a big performance hit, so I'm looking into hardware RAID options. There are multiple USB HDD enclosures that support RAID. This enclosure is one that has particularly peaked my interest because of its design and price (on sale atm): https://www.newegg.com/orico-3529ru3-dock/p/0VN-0003-001P0?Item=9SIA1DSB8V2618&Description=Dual HDD enclosure&cm_re=Dual_HDD enclosure-_-9SIA1DSB8V2618-_-Product&cm_sp=SP-_-370410-_-0-_-2-_-9SIA1DSB8V2618-_-Dual HDD enclosure-_-enclosure|hdd-_-6 My question is, would configuring this box in RAID 1 produce any problems for a Raspberry Pi? I'm assuming I would be able to just mount the drive(s) (it should just show up as 1 drive since RAID 0, right?) to my SMB share list and it should just work, right? Worried about potential driver issues on the Pi, this is a pretty large purchase that I would have no use for if it does not work.

Hey all, I got this older HP laser printer that works just fine but it needs to be hooked to a computer to function. I've moved my work station on a standing desk and I have no more space for the printer. Instead of getting a new networked one, I want to put it in another room and convert it to a network printer. The simplest and least expensive way that I found to do this seems to be by plugin it into a Pi (running Linux) and turning the Pie into a print server. So two questions: has anyone in here done this before? If so what are the hurdles? Second question: is there an easier way to do it for the same base cost or lower? Thanks in advance!

Hello I have set up a pi zero W with raspbian for a project. When I cloned a git that I need for this project I noticed that /home/pi is empty. Shouldnt there be like a Video and Download folder at least? I tried "ls -la" too of course and it gives me the following output: total 24 drwxr-xr-x 3 pi pi 4096 Mar 4 23:05 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Mar 4 22:47 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 220 Mar 4 22:47 .bash_logout -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 3523 Mar 4 22:47 .bashrc drwx------ 3 pi pi 4096 Mar 4 23:05 .gnupg -rw-r--r-- 1 pi pi 807 Mar 4 22:47 .profile Any help?

I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with Samba installed. How do I make partitions/drives assigned to a different SMB user? I want everyone in my household to have their own 25GB share with privacy. What do I put in smb.conf to make this work?

I've got both a Raspberry Pi 2B and a 3B+. They've sat for a while without being powered on (climate-controlled, low humidity). When I last used them, both worked fine. When I tried turning them on recently, they either don't finish boot or don't put out a display. With the 3B+ at least, I can hear the attached fan powering on and varying speed a bit. The red LED lights up, but no activity light, and nothing on the ethernet port. I have tried both with multiple power supplies (both at 5V 2.5A max output) at multiple outlets, tried with multiple HDMI cables and multiple displays both TV and computer monitor. To coincide with the lack of activity on the ethernet port, I also do not see a new device on the network nor one of the Pis' configured device names. I'm not sure how both of these can go bad suddenly, so I must be doing something wrong, or I have tremendously bad luck. Any ideas? The one thing I have not yet tried is checking the microSD cards in either of them, which have remained in their respective Pis' card slots. They are fully-inserted. UPDATE: Well, nevermind. I solved my problem. Took the microSD card out to check the boot partition, found it was fine. Forced HDMI though it wasn't necessary before and I wanted to say I had done something. Put the card back in and no issues with starting it up...I imagine it was just reseating the card considering before it wasn't even starting the network stack and no activity lights. These weren't stored in a high-humidity or hot environment so I'm not sure why reseating it worked. Then again I suppose I'm not sure sometimes why power cycling somethings works as often as it does, even though I've been in tech support in some fashion for decades >_>

Hey I was wondering if I could use a Raspberry Pi 4 as a renderer for Davinci Resolve. Rendering takes a while on my laptop (3550h, gtx 1650) and I want to be able to use my PC while its rendering, but want to be able to use my full computing power while it is rendering. Is there a way to render my videos on the Pi? I could work with it set up as just a rendering server or just straight up installing resolve on it.

Is it possible to daisychain3 or 4 pi's together to make a server? I need a server that can run a surveillance server and a NAS that can store 2TB+ in the same server. My budget is about £50, but I can probably up that to £70 if needed. I can cut some plywood if necessary. Any ideas?

Just wondering if I can run windows Server 2012 r2 or server 2016 on a pi. I want a domain controller that can run 24/7 but stay in my bedroom. Their are only 4 users that will be using it. It will only be taking up the entire role over night really when my rack server is offline. Is it possible?

So, I'm looking to set up a comprehensive home server on the cheap, we're talking starving student budget. What we are looking at is limited at best, a 4 Down 1 Up ADSL Internet connection. Yeah, I know. And the only available computer at my disposal is Raspberry Pi 3 + 16GB SD Card & 1TB Usb HDD. Now what I'm looking to do with this pile of dreggs is: Email Hosting Web Hosting NAS Functionality Media Streaming Print Server Now that we have a shopping list, what do I need to know and study to achieve this? And any tips from seasoned vets to the server markets. Cheers!

Hey, I've recently got a Raspberry Pi Zero. I have a USB Wifi dongle so I can use this online. I already have Raspberry PI 3 with Kodi installed. I was thinking of making a wireless NAS but I already have a Synology NAS. I was thinking of making a 'smart centre' with weather updates, news etc... in the morning on my TV but I couldn't find any tutorials out there. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Hey I'm trying to stream games from my PC to raspberry PI. The problem is I can't use "moonlight' I have have an AMD GPU. Any work arounds for this? Thanks!

Hey! So I bought this raspberry pi 3 model b just to stream live tv. But there is huge buffering issue which renders the entire thing unwatchable. I am running 100/100 network connection so I do not believe its creating a problem. My osmc is updated to the latest version. I have tried to fix it through an advance setting pluggin and by accessing the files through putty.

Ok, I'm wanting to make a laptop with a Raspberry Pi. I have a Pi 3 Model B, and i still need some help deciding what things to buy for it. I still need a: Keyboard 720p or higher Monitor trackpad(if not built in to keyboard) Battery bank able to power all of that. usb 2.0 dock so I can have I/O on the outside of the laptop. usb to HDMI adapter. By the way, im not doing anything professional here, so i want normal things you can buy on Amazon or at best buy. I need suggestions. I don't have a set budget, but I want as cheap as possible.

Hi everybody! Im Doctor N.... Anyways, my touch screen gps has died which came with my 01 Acura MDX. Unfortunately sending the unit in for repair will cost about 600$ And the only reasonably priced units i can find on ebay are for newer models. Im less concerned about the GPS aspect of the unit and more concerned with the climate control which can only be altered by using the touch screen GPS unit. I dont care if the GPS works, though i would like it to. I was wondering if anyone has dealt with cars and potentially emulating the software from Acuras GPS units, or coding something entirely new, in order access the climate control. I thought i could use a raspberry Pi and connect the 3 cables which deal with the climate control. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also i have very little to no coding skill and I hate doing the damn stuff but im willing to buckle down in order to save 600$
