Can anyone help out? One beautiful day, I decided to try setting up a dual-boot for Windows and Linux. I installed Linux on one of my SSDs and resized the partition for it. While I was in Linux, being inexperienced, I mistakenly mounted some drives incorrectly, causing some issues. I can't quite remember the details, but it led to problems, so I thought, 'Well, I'll just delete all the partitions from that SSD, it'll be easier.' After that, of course, GRUB broke, and I got some error code 1234f. I struggled with it for a while, and today, I managed to reinstall Windows and get it to boot. In the BIOS, it shows that it's supposed to boot from the HDD, but actually, it boots into Windows from my first SSD. When I set my Kingston SSD, which I usually use, as the #1 boot option, I get the same 1234f boot problem. But then, for some reason, when I choose my HDD as the boot option, it boots into Windows from that Kingston SSD . Everything seemed normal otherwise, but then came the fun part. Apparently, that SSD got corrupted or something during the Linux setup. It seems like you can still save stuff on it, but games don't work properly on this SSD and they crash. (note that formatting does not seem to fix anything) Any help would be appreciated, and if nothing else works, I guess I'll have to get a new SSD or something. It might have been a bit confusing, but I'm happy to provide more details. EDIT: Perhaps the biggest issue is that games don't seem to work properly on this other SSD. Cause atleast i can now boot to windows. The SSD is a W.D Green SN350 1tb nvme ssd, please do also note that my other ssd works normally, where windows is installed.

Hello everyone, I am having this issue where I have been trying to install Windows 10 Pro on an NVME P5 Crucial SSD 500GB and it is not being recognized. I initially tried on a RAZER Stealth Blade 2019 and it didn't show up. I tried it on my test bench computer and it still did not show up. For both devices, the drive does appear on the BIOS settings but just not Disk Management/Windows install. I've tried updating the drivers and still got the same results. Could the drive simply be faulty? Here are some images to assist with my explanation: Caption: 120GB SSD is boot drive (P5 not showing up there^) Caption: Drive appearing on Device Manager and Hardware Info

Hello there all! Im facing this problem with my OS disk right now... My specifications are: Motherboard: Asus Prime Z790-A Wifi OS Disk: NVME M.2 WD_Black sn770 OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2 (I think... is there 23H2? ...) (CPU, Graphics card, and secondary disks being some SSD and HDD). This past week I have been experiencing random high disk usages at my OS disk, that would freeze Windows for some minutes. Events were showing there was some kind of problem with RAID disk E/S Today after a freeze, I was just really tired of not being able to at least shutdown properly the PC, waiting for 15 minutes watching the freezed screen.... so I "hard shutdowned" it.. after waiting a bit, and trying to boot it again, as I did some other times this week (bcause, as I say, it is happening a lot theese days..), I stumbled upon seeing that I could not boot the windows system on my NVME M2. It took a few tries for the motherboard BIOS to even recognize the disk. When trying to boot it, it says it does not have a bootable sector.... I took an SSD with windows 11 from an old computer, and when connecting it to the PC, and accessing the Disk Management, I can see how the NVME M2 disk appears: As "RAW" format, without being able to access its data, but showing the partitions: EFI system partition -100MB Basic data partition - 1800GB RAW Recovery partition -760MB 2MB Unallocated all partitions show "correct" status I wonder, if there is any way to recover the file system data, as well as to reuse the NVME M2 disk (WD_Black sn770) as system disk, again.... Translated with DeepL.com (free version) I can add the screenshots that show the info about the disk thorugh the DiskManagement of the booted Windows, at an old SSD Thank in advice for any comment here!

My legion 5 17imh05h has an extra unused m.2 slot. A few other models of legion 5 have been documented to work well with 2nd m.2. I tested size with my existing m.2 and I think it fits well? There is no shielding though, is this fine? (note I might not have fully screwed in) I would like to put a 2tb singlesided NVME 2280 M.2 SSD in it. I want one that isnt too thick because I might get a framework 16 next. What brands are good for gaming? Good speed and reliability, I do not want lost save data. Ideally one purchasable on amazon.ca as I am Canadian and need it soon(have prime). I don't want to be without this computer for long but really want to avoid opening and closing it a bunch of times as I don't want to strip screws and risk breaking the clips. Thank you!

So i got a 4tb nvme ssd for my itx machine and one thing i noticed it is it's duble sided with chips and comes off thicker, so heatplate i had can't really fit both sides. I was thinking to swapping out the nvme from the front side(also the :C/ OS) to the rear and have the 4tb on front with the integrated heatsink, and the :C/ drive in the back. Will this cause any errors? Thanks!

Hello peeps So I bought this pre-built model 400G4PDM/I77700/500HQ/4C/8f , A mouse and a keyboard included from HP this system has: - Intel® Core™ i7-7700 Processor - A western digital 500GB hard-disk - A 180 watt 80+bronze powersupply - 1x 8GB DDR4 2133 Mhz RAM - Intel® HD Graphics 630 that's for the that's for the options part, as for expansion: Ports Front: Universal audio jack with CTIA headset support 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 1 SD 3 card reader (optional) Back: 1 audio out connector 1 DisplayPort™ 1 VGA 4 USB 2.0 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 1 audio in connector 1 RJ-45 1 power connector Expansion slots Turbo Drive (M.2 PCIe) 1 M.2 2230 for wireless NIC PCI Express x16 (v3.0)(wired as a x4) 4.2", full height 6.6" length, 35 W max power PCI Express x16 (v3.0) 4.2" full height, 6.6" length, 75 W max power Upgrades: 1-SSD:(done) For this upgrade I went with the SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 250GB NVMe PCI-Express 3.0 x4 plugged it in the previously mentioned PCIE x16 that is (wired as a x4) through an Asus Hyper M.2 PCI-Express x4, and it is working properly as my system bootable, keeping the 500GB hard-disk for storage. 2-GPU With only my 1x (PCI Express x16 (v3.0) 4.2" full height, 6.6" length, 75 W max power) left for expansion, I am choosing to go with a passive cooling GeForce®GTX 1050 Ti KalmX with it's TDP at 75 watts being my built limit, although it is not available for sale right now, I will have to wait to be able to get a hold of one. 3-WiFi I want to add WiFi solution to my PC, just so I can have my computer ready for any kind of requirements although I will be running it via cable when working on it, and Bluetooth can get very handy. I didn't know what network card to choose exactly, just because I don't really have a lot of background knowledge about this matter. 4-RAM To be able to carry any kind of task that I will be putting on this computer I would want to match my stick with another 8 GB of DDR4 RAM to have a total of 16 GB memory running at 2133 Mhz enabling the dual channel bandwidth supposedly increasing performance and Graphics processing performance. Problems: 1-Enough power to run the GPU? With my low wattage powersupply I am really concerned if my PC can run a 1050 ti like the KalmX, and I have no idea how to know, and in-case it can't; is it possible to upgrade the PSU in pre-built PCs??? 2-I can't decide what WiFi adapter to get. I would love to hear reviews or insights about WiFi adapters. (I care about Bluetooth, WiFi range and ping) Cost: 1-HP ProDesk 400G4PDM/I77700/500HQ/4C/8f ------- 660$ 2-Samsung evo 960 250GB + Asus hyper m.2 ------- 180$ ....... These prices are for the marker here in Jordan. So prices may differ drastically. (am pretty sure you can get the ssd and the kit for cheaper than this price) And bro aren't these boot time fast

Thanks to a friend that gifted me this piece of add-in card during the Festive season, I now find myself wondering which 4TB PCIE SSD I should go for in order to replace my 2x3TB Toshiba P300. I'm looking at the Samsung 990 Pro since: I already have a 980 (yes, it's the non-Pro, I didn't omit the Pro), and knows it's performance characteristics. I also have 2 more 870 EVO 4TB, so pretty much Samsung ecosystem. I can walk to multiple local shops and purchase one. TLC-based and has DRAM cache Except ONE issue, it cost $500-$550, after currency conversion and tax from US$. The two 3TB drives I'll be replacing are my Workspace/Documents/Downloads and Game Records, and yes, I know the add-in card splits PCIE 3.0 x4 into PCIE 3.0 x1, but in the future (5-7 years--already 3 years, based on my upgrade cycle), I can get the 'full' potential of the 4TB PCIE SSDs. Plus, it's still PCIE 3.0 x1, still faster than SATA. Here are the 4TB I can: Go down and purchase Doesn't have heatsink Below $420 They are: Adata XPG S70 Blade Adata Legend 960 Lexar NM790 (Not looking at this, since it's HBM/DRAM-) Crucial P3/+ (Not looking at this, QLC and HBM/DRAM-) Are those two comparable to 990 Pro? I'm discourage of looking at NewEgg or A to Z (Amazon), because the waiting time is two weeks---big OOF.

Hello! First of all, I’ll try to make this as clear as possible, even though we’ll have to play with numbers and letters. I have in my possession; New Sabrent Rocket Gen 4 4x NVMe SSD SKHynix PCIe Gen 3 4x NVMe SSD LiteOn SATA M.2 SSD Gigabyte advertises the MB to support Gen 3 4x NVMe (and SATA) M.2 drives, and I tried all 3 of those drives, and NONE of them worked, or were even detected by the BIOS. But, interestingly, the SKHynix drive did somehow softlocked the BIOS, because the restart didn’t worked, nor Ctrl + Alt + Del, and that drive was getting boiling hot. Do note that I use ALL of the 6 SATA ports, (excluding SATA Express) but even with the SATA drives disconnected from the PSU, none of the M.2 drives worked. I also tried the Sabrent drive without the GPU, since it might take some PCIe lanes, nothing. Additional Info: CPU: i7-7700 GPU: RTX 2070 BIOS: F24

I swapped out the SATA M.2 SSD I had in my Zenbook Duo (UX481 running Debian 12) for an NVMe one and now resuming causes the drive to either disconnect or become read only after a few seconds causing the system to freeze/hang. I've tried a bunch of workarounds but nothing has fixed the issue. kernel parameters I've tried: acpi_rev_override=1 acpi_osi=Linux mem_sleep_default=deep iommu=soft acpiphp.disabled=1 pcie_aspm=disabled nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 nvme.noacpi=1 Any other ideas? I've had the same problem on a 1TB Intel 660p and now a 512GB Eluktronics branded drive.

Hi guys, here for some help and recommendations from you. Current situation: My pc is a mini-itx FF with these components: i7-13700k 32GB (2x16) ddr5 6600mhz Asu Rog Strix B760-I GAMING WIFI 1st nvme ssd: 500GB 970 evo (GEN3 3,5GB/S) 2nd nvme ssd: 1TB Sabrent Rocket (GEN3 3,5GB/S) RTX 3070 These new components have been chosen cause the main use for this pc is just working with Adobe programs. Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. About Premiere Pro, i'll use raw 4k 60fps H264 and 1080p 60fps h.264 footage, then always export everything as 1080p 60fps (nothing so long cause these are just social media reels, stories ecc). In AE i'll use both 4k and full HD compositions. I'm planning to add a new 2TB nvme GEN4 ssd (7GB/S) as projects/files drive but... Questions: 1) As this motherboard has only 2 m.2 slots, is it optimal to keep the 970 as main OS + programs drive and change the Sabrent with a new 2TB gen4 and create a 500gb partition on it as a cache drive? The remaining 1,5TB will be my projects/files drive. (The Sabrent will be sold or just forgotten in a drawer lol) * i read around that rarely cache drive might fail or it might just happen. In this case just the 500gb partition will fail or the entire 2tb ssd? 2) Using 3 ssd nvme, the main OS + Programs drive will be the Sabrent, the new 2TB gen4 drive will be the projects/files drive and the 970 will be the cache drive BUT in an external ssd case plugged via usb type-c directly to the mobo on a 10gb/s port (1000mb/s). Is this speed enough for a cache drive in my case for editing 4k and 1080p footage? 3) Is there any actual difference in performance with a nvme gen3 3,5GB/S, a nvme gen4 7GB/S, and a nvme that runs at around 1000MB/s as mentioned above? Thx in advance.

I'm sorry for my poor english! So this year I bought a rx vega 56. I was in a hurry when buying it and I didn't give a thought about cooling and etc. My pc specs were CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x MOBO: Asus prime a320m-k Ram: 16gb ddr4 3200mhz cl 16 SSD: random samsung 512gb nvme m.2-2230 ( the m.2 slot on the mobo is right under the gpu) 700w aerocool psu So from February to June of this year, I had no problems with the pc. All games went smooth, no crashes, blue screens or random blackouts. I had done some overclocking to the RAM (3333 mhz at cl 17) and also GPU through AMD software-Adrenaline Edition and it was all good. After a period of 1 month ( i think) I started to have random blue screen once in a while, but nothing major. I thought that it was the Ram so I bought a second hand 32gb 3000mhz g-skill aegis in a rush. Problems were still current so I tried undervolting a bit and it didn't work so I went on and underclocked the card a LOT, reduced power usage and that was it. The gpu was causing the ssd to overheat. I bought another ssd (XPG GAMMIX S70 blade 1tb) with a passive heatsink on it and I put a fan blowing air to the ssd and still when I try to do smth graphics intense, the pc blackouts or just freezes and then blackouts. So I think it is a relatively easy fix by swapping out for a less power hungry GPU or a motherboard which has it m.2 slot not under the gpu. I will be very glad if someone suggests a workarround about this. I have attached the overclock and underclock settings for the RX vega 56. Thank you! rxvega56ocopt1.xml rxvegaverylowpower.xml

I was wondering if a SATA connector connected to the motherboard this way, maybe we can replace it with a M.2 SATA or M.2 NVMe. If that's not possible and NVMe should be connected directly to the motherboard, is that possible to move my WiFi Card over here (on the place of ODD SATA port)? so that I can connect an NVMe ssd there. Also Speccy says I have 3 PCIe x1 ports available. What are those and how I can utilize them?

I just got a kingston NVMe ssd and put it into my laptop. It shows up in the bios just fine. But I can't find it on windows(11) file manager or on device manager, not even on disk manager. The SSD is a kingston snv2s1000g if that helps at all. Here are some pics of the bios and disk manager: Original NVMe SSD that came with the laptop. the kingston one: and the disk manager:

Hey guys About 6mos ago, my pc after startup will get BSOD, and after a couple of restarts, the pc will run just fine. I checked the logs, and it looks like its pointing to a hardware error. I was busy, and never had time to get around to it. Until one day, my pc booted into bios, and the bios cant seem to detect the drive (intel 660p nvme). So i thought, this must be the failing hardware. I replaced it with a kingston nvme, and everything worked out fine, no BSODs, until a couple months ago where I started getting it again, and last night, my pc booted into bios again and it cant read the drive anymore. At this point, the drive is probably 3-4mos old.nis it possible i have terrible luck with drives? I think my m.2 slot is faulty. My mobo is gigabyte b450m ds3h v2. It only has 1 m.2 slot, and i dont have another pc i could check my Kingston nvme with. What would be my next steps? I have the mind to replace my mobo with a newer one to allow for future upgrades, but what if I just have bad luck with drives? When i replaced my drive there was a period of 1-2 mos where everything is fine Thanks in advance

As it says in the title. I got a new 4TB NVME drive on Black Friday (this one, specifically: Predator GM7000 M.2 up to 2TB storage and 7400 MB/s read speed (predatorstorage.com)), and the first benchmark was in line with my 970 EVO. After getting my OS and files migrated and using it for about a week, performance dropped off a cliff. Here's the before and after in Samsung Magician: Is there anything I should know/try before returning this drive and getting a replacement? Am I misunderstanding SSDs, is this just a sucky one? I thought I did my research, and I made sure to get a drive with a DRAM cache (this one has 4 GB). I know it's TLC, but I thought that impacted lifespan way more than immediate performance, and I got a really really good deal so I wasn't worried if it only lasted several years instead of 5+.

I'm looking at upgrading my "old" (3 years) 500GB Sabrent Rocket 4 for a larger drive, with current very low price a 2TB top Gen4 NVme like WD SN850X, Hynix P41 or Crucial T500 are in the 120-150 EUR range (I did buy my SN850 2TB for more than 400EUR 2 years ago at launch..) Then I'm also planning an AM5 upgrade in 2024 with next gen AMD chips, and wondering if it's a good idea to get a Gen4 drive now if I have Gen5 support in a few months, maybe I could buy a Gen5 drive now ? But Gen5 price are like x2 vs Gen4, really not a good deal, would try to avoid same mistake than with my SN850, and I'm not even sure of what I'll gain IRL with that, are Gen5 drives really faster at booting and loading stuff ? I'm mostly doing gaming and office stuff on my rig, not manipulating GB of files every day OTOH SSD prices are at an all time low, but all signals are red for future prices, going to get up due to chip shortage and production decrease Any thoughts ?

I want to replace the 2.5" HDD in my laptop with an M.2 NVMe SSD. I'm looking for a solution/product that would make plugging my SSD into a SATA 3.3 connector possible. I can't seem to find a suitable adapter. I found adapters that turn M.2 SATA into regular SATA. Also, I don't want to use it as external storage. Is this conversion even possible to do? If so, could you please help me?

Hi I am looking to get a big NVME drive for as a one drive to put all of my games on and want to future proof so looking at direct storage the drive I am looking at is a Crucial P3 Gen 3 (Link below) because it's the only NVME drive I can find that has a NAND chip on it. When I brought my last SSD everyone said having a NAND chip on it but most of the drives don't have them is it not important anymore. The drive is a GEN3 will that be a problem for direct storage. And how big do you think In will need, the plan is to just download the games and keep them on there. The two sizes I am looking at are either 2tb or 4tb do you think that 4tb is too much as the price does feel excessive and feel a bit of overkill but with the size that games are getting like COD normally around 150GB, Red Dead Redemption 2 – 150 GB and Jedi Survivor at 165GB it doesn't seem that overkill https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-Plus-PCIe-Gen4-Internal/dp/B0B25M8FXX/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3VA2IB7OG89PH&keywords=m.2%2Bnvme%2Bssd%2B4tb%2Bgen%2B4&qid=1701011718&s=computers&sprefix=m.2%2Bnvme%2Bssd%2B4tb%2Ccomputers%2C324&sr=1-6&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.cc223b57-2b86-485c-a85e-6431c1f06c86&th=1

Hey I'm looking at getting a SSD for a games library and the P3 is on sale the problem is that they don't come with a heatsink and my motherboard doesn't have a heatsink. How important is it to get a heatsink. If so does anyone know one that will work? Also is it important to get a SSD with a NAND chip

I have updated the NVME SSD: swapped a HP EX900 500GB (no DRAM) to a Samsung PM981a 512GB (with DRAM). I have benchmarked the Samsung SSD on a Lenovo laptop and got speeds around +3000MB/s. On the Dell I get 1700MB/s and Crystal Disk Info shows "Negotiated transfer rate - PCIe 3.0 x2". The laptop is capable of PCIe 3.0 x4 as stated also "Highest Possible Transfer Rate - PCIe 3.0 x4". Troubleshooting: - Changed in BIOS from RAID to AHCI; - Clean reinstall Windows 11 in both RAID and AHCI separately; - Re-seated the SSD multiple times; - BIOS is using the latest firmware; - All drivers are up to date (checked with Dell Command Update, Dell Support Assist and on the website); How can I make the SSD run at this full speed on this laptop? Has anyone encountered this before?

Hello. I am building a new PC and came across the following dilemma: Should I opt for a second nvme or a regular SATA SSD? A while ago a saw Techquickie video that mentioned that adding additional nvme drives will slow down GPU due to insufficient PCIe lanes. I did some googling and many people say that the loss would be insignificant (around 4%). But they also mention that it also depends on motherboard. So can anyone here help me decide on whether I should buy a second nvme for OS or settle for SATA? The other nvme will be the main drive (2tb). Here is the setup I am going with (subject to changes, if you suggest anything better): CPU: i7 14700kf GPU: 3070 ti MoBo: ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-PLUS WiFi

I'm looking at nvme drives for my computer but I'm confused on the pcie lane usage. My motherbord NZXT N7 b650e has 3 nvme slots they are pcie 5.0 x4 mode, pcie 4.0 x4 mode, and pcie 4.0 x2 mode. The first 2 slots are connected to the cpu and the 3rd is the chip set. I want to use the first 2 slots for speed. From my understanding there is only 20 lanes available to the cpu. My question is would I be able to use both nvme slots to the cpu without negatively affecting my gpu or stealing lanes from it. Below is an email I have sent to MSI, Corsair and Intel (all products I use in my machine) to try and get support. It also outlines my problem. I will also list my system below. Motherboard: MPG Z590 Gaming Carbon WiFi CPU: Intel Core i5-11600KF RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro x4 16GB GPU: MSI RTX 3060 Ventus 3x 12GB Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 2TB Crucial P3 1TB TEAM T253LE240G Power Supply: Corsair RM750x My problem is described below: On Saturday 21st October 2023, I installed a Crucial P3 Plus 2TB into my system (MPG z590 Gaming Carbon WiFi). I then reinstalled Windows 10 onto my Crucial P3 which was already in my system. After this the problems started, my computer was freezing initially between 1 – 2 minutes apart, becoming completely unresponsive, on the screen, mouse, keyboard etc. I started to carry out diagnostic tests and have been doing since. I was attempting to switch from CSM to UEFI, move my boot drive to my P3 (1TB) and install my P3 Plus (2TB) for games. These tests consisting of the following (all tests carried out were 5 minutes long) - Remove P3 Plus, freeze on the 6th Test Run, ran on CSM - Reinstall Windows 10 on the P3, freeze on the 5th Test Run, ran on UEFI - Keep P3 Plus out, remove P3, install Windows 10 onto my other SSD (where the boot originally was), freeze on 6th Test Run, ran on UEFI - Keep P3 Plus out, keep P3 out, use 1 stick of RAM (I called this one A), we stopped this test after the 3rd run to download Windows 11 as someone mentioned Windows 10 being glitched from the installation media. - We had all 4 RAM sticks in during this, freeze during Windows 11 install at the drive selection. - Windows 11 installed successfully, Drivers updated automatically, GPU drivers installed, rebooted, RAM A again, freeze on 1st Test Run (1 Minute in), ran on CSM - Windows 11, switched RAM Stick A for RAM Stick B, freeze on 5th Test Run (3 Minutes in), ran on CSM - Windows 11, switched RAM Stick B for RAM Stick C, freeze on 1st Test Run (1 Minute in), ran on CSM After all of this (over the space of the 21st to 24th), last night I reset BIOS to defaults (defaulting to UEFI), reinstalled my P3, unplugged my original SSD, and installed Windows 11 to the P3. Tonight I will be carrying out the tests of this to see if it freezes.
