I will be moving from the US (120v/60hz) to India(230v/50hz) in just over a year, I'm not sure whether I should get a UPS that can handle 50/60hz and just adapt the voltage down to 120 or if it is better to get a UPS that can take both 120v/60hz and 230-240v/50hz. Not sure if anyone has experience with this and if you have a different solution from this that'd be welcome.

Context - I was finally able (after an 8 month wait) to obtain a 3080 from EVGA's queue. I now have all of the parts that I need to build my new, water-cooled PC. The problem is that there is a strong chance that I will be moving states in the next couple of months. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but should I just wait until I have made the move to build my PC? I'm mainly worried about dangers posed to the PC by the moving process. This will be my first build, so I'm just kind of nervous about it. Input appreciated. EDIT - Additionally, if you think I should go ahead and build, any advice on prepping the PC for moving would be very appreciated. Thanks so much everyone. (Apologies if this isn't the right forum for this. It seemed like the closest match when I was looking.)

The question that I have / discussion that I would like to start is the following: What is the best way to move one GPU between two PCs? The goal would be to make the dis- reconnecting as fast as possible, without wearing down components that are not meant to be used this way. My current idea is to use a GPU riser to move the GPU away from the motherboard and to protect the motherboard connectors. Using some spare PSU connectors and a little bit of soldering/crafting I'd then create a separate connector for power (to protect the GPU power-connector from wear). Are there any better methods? Maybe some drive bay-hotswappable style connectors that I'm not aware of? For those wo wonder why you would want to do that, currently I regularly move between two places where in each I have a PC, one is for gaming one is for productivity, moving one single whole PC would be way too much effort, and I'm using public transport to get around which would make this very awkward. As the GPU could be used in both builds (although being bottlenecked in the productivity PC) and is for both PCs the single most expensive item I thought "hey if I can't move the whole PC how about just the GPU?", which brought me to reddit, various other forums and now this place, the GPU easily fits in a protective bag and can be transported in my backpack.

Need advice on transporting PC setup to a new apartment
Reiidar posted a topic in General Discussion
Hello Everyone, I am about to move out to a new apartment and will be moving my things myself along with some helpers. I am concerned about how I will be transporting my PC and Two monitors safely. It is a mid tower case with an RTX 3050, I think it is a small card relatively speaking and I would be transporting it so that the graphics card is vertical perpendicular to the ground. However since I have never transported a PC before I am not aware of any issues that may happen. I also no longer have the boxes for the PC or my monitors so your advices on what I can do to transport them safely is highly appreciated. Thank you so much- 5 replies

So, I asked a few months ago, some information about Canada because I was thinking moving there from Greece: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/659619-moving-to-canada/ Now, I am almost ready and prepared to do the big move! The place I chose is Toronto, and I will move in a few months. I need some information about Toronto though, and because I am tech geek, I need to know Internet Speeds there, as well if there is a PC Hardware Search Engine, so I can find the cheapest new hardware I want. We have one here at Greece which we call Skroutz, and it's API connected to many online stores. That's what I need. I know about PC Part Picker, but I am interested more in this search engine so I can find smartphones/laptops/gadgets etc. I also want you to tell me about ISPs in Canada, I found one called "Beanfield" which gives Fiber Optic up to 500Mbps, unlimited data in Ohio for 75$ US (~100 CAD). Is it a good ISP? I will surely need unlimited data, especially since I leave my family/girlfriend back here, to Skype with them. Also, high-speeds will be a dream for me. Average speed in Greece is 8Mbps, but I have 12Mbps. Lastly, can you confirm me that IT Technicians start salary is about 2500 CAD, rents are at 500-1000 CAD including utility, and life cost for 1 person is less than 2000 CAD? I don't care about going out or vacations, since I will be alone there, I will just be spending huge about of times on my PC. I know I ask much about tech, and I should ask more about life, but already know about that. And also, because at Greece I am creator of a community with 30k people only about tech, with Site/YT Channel, I will need to continue doing my hobby too (in Greece, finding sponsors is very hard). Thank you all in advance. Please no huge answers.

Hey Guys, I have a friend who is moving from AUS to USA and wants to take his PC with him to USA. What would be the best way to have it transported there? having it assembled and just having foam around the GPU and CPU cooler so it wont move wold that be enough ? Or should we disassemble everything and then ship it? he does not have the static safe bag and that is what is concerning me a bit here. He currently has a AIO cooler but has just recently got the Hyper 212X Evo, Which he might return since he is moving and has not yet installed it. Thanks for the help in advance guys

Hey all, (x-post with Storage category because I couldn't decide where it should go) I made the mistake of making a WD Green 1TB drive my main boot drive when I first built my PC, instead of biting the bullet and buying an SSD to install onto. Now, as you can imagine, my PC is painfully slow on start up, and within the first 5 minutes of running Windows 10. I bought Windows as a genuine Windows 8 OEM install disk and serial code, however I obviously upgraded to Windows 10 through the free upgrade. I've already bought an SSD to run some of my most played games off (namely GTA V), but I was thinking of getting another to do either; A fresh install of windows on, and just treat it as a new PC, use my 1TB drive as storage? OR - Is there any way that I could seperate, or even just move my windows install onto the new SSD? I'm prepared to remove all of the other data off the HD if that will help? Thanks - Rhys

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum section. I am moving overseas (From Hawai'i to the US East Coast for anyone wondering) and I have a computer that I want to move with me. I got the PC a little over a year ago, and don't need to upgrade yet, so I'm not going to yank the hard drive and sell the PC on craigslist. Anyway, I was wondering how the best way to ship it is. I plan to backup my data and take the hard drive with me on the plane, and remove my GPU and aftermarket CPU cooler. Are there any "secret tips" I should know about? Thanks in advanced!

Would it be Possible to Move All of the Parts Inside of my Alienware x51 to another case? So I have an alienware x51 and I'm tired of the un-upgradability of the case, so I was wondering if I could move those parts to another more standard case? You can see the parts listed on my profile, and the only non-standard parts that are in it are the gpu and the motherboard, as it's alienware made. So can I move all of those parts to another better case without any problems?

Whilst dragging the google chrome window between anywhere on a single monitor or across my two monitors it lags horrible and stutters. I have a 980Ti, 6700k, 32gb of ram. It happens with no intensive apps running and just one window. I am pretty sure chrome is on my SSD and if not is on my fast HDD's in raid 0 for added speed. I tried googling a google issue but google wouldn't google a googled answer...... aka, found nothing. I tried using chromium because that is a much lighter version. Anyways, if anybody knows how to fix that, it would be awesome. I figure it would be a good idea to post my addons: AdBlock App Launcher for drive Authy Authy chrome extension better tv chrome remote desktop hide most visited pages reloaded speedtest by ookla teamviewer (yes, I know, redundant) webroot filtering extension

i recently moved 500 miles and had to put my computer in storage for a month, and then i moved my computer to my new home. when i plugged it in and turned it on, it would turn on and off, and on, and off, every couple of seconds. it finally let me get in the bios where i disable OC. it would then turn on just fine. (but a few of the USB ports in the back were not reliable). the computer worked just fine when i was browsing the web, but when i played a game (overwatch) i was getting terrible FPS. when i tried to restart it it would not turn back on again, but instead did the on off on off cycle every couple of seconds. I think it the motherboard got damaged durring the move, but i am not sure. it could also be the RAM or PSU. I already tried the following -making sure all the power plugs are plugged in correctly -making sure the ram is seated correctly -look for visually damaged parts (there were none) because the computer will not even post, i do not think software has anything to do with it. my specs are the following i7 4770k, 1080 TI, 2x 16GB DDR3 ram, 600W 80+ bronze power supply, MSI z87-g41 motherboard. also because of the move, i am broke. i could probably afford to buy up to $200 in parts. so my question; what is most likely the problem, and is there a way for me to test the parts without buying replacements parts? (remember, i am broke, so i do not want to buy a part on a "maybe this will fix it" unless i have no other choice) and can i maybe fix it without replacing any parts (wishful thinking, i know)

Hello! In over a month I'll be moving cross country. However, this time I'm in my own and really only need to move my PC. Currently it's in a Corsair 600c, however I need to downsize because as it stands the case is nearly 50lbs on its own (expensive as all hell to ship). I like the design and decided to get the 400c. However... Turns out there's been a price hike recently. My local Fry's is out of stock and it's $140 on eBay. That's more than I'm willing to spend on it. My question is: can you recommend a PC case which is similar to the 400c/600c? My constraints are as follows: -Around or below $100USD -House full atx Mobo -Room for massive Asus ROG 1070ti -Not heavy or massive (ideally under 25lbs) -Spots for 2 full HDDs and SSDs Thank you for your help! (Alternatively, if you know a way to ship the 600c with insurance for less than $350, that would be helpful too).

I've got a directory filled with files. Each file name has a description, and then the clients name. Example: "Brochure (John Smith).pdf" Let's say this directory has a couple hundred of these with different client names. I would like these to be automatically filtered, for example: If file name contains "John Smith" Move file to D:\Clients\Smith, John\ If the file name contains "Russel Coight" Move file to D:\Clients\Coight, Russel\ I can do this with an application called RoboBasket, but the problem is, I have to add every single rule manually, with each name and destination (per client). Is there an application that anyone knows of that can do this in bulk? A quick response would be much appreciated, thanks!

Hello there everyone, I am currently stuck on an important matter where I have to ship my gaming PC oversees due me moving out back to my home country. I've bought my pc here in Argentina but as stated I'd like to bring it back to Belgium. Does anyone know of any good companies that could do that for me? I have tried to look with DHL but they don't seem to have anything within the size of a PC case. ps I do plan on removing my cooler and GPU and put that in my luggage due to it potentially break my Mobo or something else.

I am going off to college soon and I am planning to bring my computer with me. I have 2 hard drives in the computer though and I know the dangers of vibrations to them. I just want to know, is it reasonably safe to drive my computer to my dorm while the hard drives are still in it? Or is there something specific I should do to ensure their safety? It’s roughly a 30 min drive. Thanks for any help.
