So I’ve found out that LTX 2024 isn’t happening, and this really bums me out. I wasn’t able to make it this year because I live in the southern US and plane tickets to Vancouver are 700 freedom eagles for two people. I was going to try to make it next year, but now I can’t. So I had an idea: What if the community organized an LTX-like event for next year? Maybe sponsored by LMG? We might be able to rally the community and get some of the same sponsors and companies out if we got other creators involved. This is probably an unlikely scenario, but I wanted to throw the idea out there just in case it isn’t totally bogus.

I was wondering if, and if so how, LMG/LTT contributes to charity? I'm aware of...: That the auctions at LTX was for charity. Folding@Home is for charity. ...however, both of these was money/computer resources coming from their fans, not themselves. LMG was allegedly offered to be purchased and valued at a 9 figure number. Also, Linus has enough money to go around and build tennis centers for people, both LMG as a company and Linus as a person has a lot of money. Controversial opinion that might trigger a lot of people: I personally believe we as humans should try to leave the earth a better place than we found it, and no matter if you make $1000 USD or $10000 USD per month, I strongly believe that donating at least $1 USD per month to charity is a million times better than donating nothing. I'm a student with basically no money or income at all at the moment, but I still make sure to donate $5 USD per month to a local cat shelter, since that's a charity that personally feels important to me. Being open about which charities you donate to is not about boasting or bragging, it's about normalizing it and making it the norm.

I'm planning to build my own NAS for use as a Plex server and data storage solution. I have been searching for different off-site backup solutions, and out of curiosity, I started wondering how Linus Media Group handles its off-site backup. I found two videos from Linus Tech Tips that discuss this topic. In the second video, Linus strongly suggests that tape storage might be their solution (though in the first video, Linus dismisses tape storage as having too high upfront cost). They don't confirm this in the video, and I cannot remember any instances after these videos where they would have confirmed this. So can anyone confirm whether tape storage is their official off-site backup solution?

Linus is using his power like a modern day madman version of Napoleon (he kind of looks like Napoleon doesn't he?) lopping off heads digitally. In his latest act of cruelty and highhanded activity, the power tripping authoritarian mad dictator has fired Luke! Luke has been relegated to the digital version of Siberia where he will wither and die a slow and humiliating net death. Why has Linus done this to our beloved Luke? I believe it is a conspiracy against Lukes' rising social status. Linus is jealous of Lukes' likability and popularity among all the viewers and even the cast Linus Tech Tips. Yes, even amongst their own peers Linus is shunned for his crabbiness while Luke is exalted to a Godlike status. It is this writers considered opinion that Linus is also jealous of Lukes considerable height while Linus himself is vertically challenged. Edited after some comments PS- Soooooo a few seem to think i am serious here ... figure i will clear this up. This post was meant to be funny and silly, but some are taking it serious? Sooooo, it isn't. Although the part abput Linus looking like Napoleon is kinda true, and him being a dick tator might be true, and of course being vertically challenged is true, well and Luke is kinda Godlike. So basically the whole post os accurate except Luke isn't fired, well at least not officially.

What camera does LMG use to shoot Techquickie videos? In the 2014 shoot they were using either Blackmagic Cinema Camera or Blackmagic Production Camera. I am quite sure they use BMCC. But what I am wondering is the codec they are using to shoot B-Roll in LTT, Techquickie and A-Roll in ChannelSuperFun

Where can I buy exactly the red led clocks used in background of some LTT videos? They are large, bright, and have a duty cycle that films well. I have bought and returned many that fell short. Thanks in advance. The cardboard pc case video uses them.

Hey LMG, I am an active duty military member and I would like to ask you a question, I am close to deploying and I would like to ask if you and your associates would be interested in sending out a monthly flash drive to bring to me and the crew aboard my ship (CVN-70) the joy of your content while we are deployed, I'm not asking for early content, but more so the catalog of content that you have released over the past month, with which I will try to distribute the best I can amongst the crew, I will gladly pay for the cost of the usb required to send your content, this is a way for myself, and the other men and women aboard my ship to stay connected with the outside world via one of our favorite media outlets. I understand that you might miss our request and I am unsure of which way to approach your business for this request, but I hope to hear back from you. -Mrliquidmetal

Hi there! Over the past couple days I've been working on a small project. It's a playing card deck with the LMG Crew as figures. If you want to make it yourself, just download the PDF and print it doublesided onto (preferably) thick paper stock and cut out the cards. I like to laminate the cards before cutting to achieve better stability. (And yes of course dennis is the Joker) I wanted to include every member so Jon and Colton had to be number 5 + 6. If you actually make a printed deck, please send me pictures. Have fun! Download Link: Linus Tech tips playing cards 1.0.pdf I just noticed this is my first post

Greetings, There's been a lot of talk about the ability to overclock all of Intel's new Skylake CPUs - including non-k models - with base-clock overclocking on all compatible motherboards after a BIOS update (notably, Z170 chipset motherboards from major manufacturers or any LGA 1151 motherboard from Super Micro. I was wondering if you guys at LMG (@LinusTech and @Slick in particular) intended to cover this in a future video. I could be wrong, but it's a development that could mean a lot for the PC community that LMG addresses in most of their videos- a return to former Intel CPU generations where a little tweaking could mean far greater performance at lower prices. Regards, Aereldor.

Can we get a meetup megathread about the meetup on the 21st? Can this be it? I feel like we ought to coordinate a little here, so we're all on the same page. Apologies if there is a thread somewhere already.

So as you may already know, Paul Walker, most known for his role in the Fast and Furious series passed away during the making of Fast 7. Apparently a lookalike of Walker was found, then his face was edited to look more like Walker. (which they did a good job on) So here comes my question. Does anyone think that Slick (Luke) looks like Paul Walker? Also if someone could find me the name of the lookalike who played as Walker I would appreciate that.

Campaign link: http://newoffice.linustechtips.com We've had an amazing couple of years here at Linus Media Group, and we can't wait to see what the future holds! Especially with your help... REWARDS TRACKER LINKS $12,000 campaign reward link: http://bit.ly/1uNcqdH CROWD FUNDING Q&A FROM NOV. 21 WAN SHOW Q: Why don’t you have lower contribution tiers like $1 A: Right now everything is going through PayPal and for very small transactions the proportion of the payment that they take for their cut is higher, so rather than encouraging the members of our community who can afford it least to give a bunch of their money to PayPal we would rather they keep it for themselves. Q: Your stretch targets are ridiculous. Why are they so high A: You’re right, they were much higher than they should have been initially, and a big part of the reason for that is we weren’t sure how much momentum this campaign would have and we didn’t want to trap ourselves by putting ourselves in a situation where we had to do every stretch target in a span of a week. Now that we can see how things are tracking we have rearranged the stretch targets to make them much more attainable, but spread them out enough that we won’t be doing everything at once throughout the campaign. Q: Aren’t you guys a business? Why aren’t you seeking investment or taking out a loan A: Yes we are a business, but those of you savvy enough to figure out these types of business strategies should also be savvy enough to know that moving into a much larger space is going to cost a LOT more than $50,000 - our goal for the campaign - even in the short term. We are exploring every avenue necessary to grow and keep delivering the best content we can regardless of how much we raise during this campaign Q: Then why are you asking us for money at all? A: Because some of you WANT to help us in this way. To those people we send our heartfelt gratitude, and to everyone else, we still send our heartfelt gratitude, because EVERY contribution - even one view on a video - counts. The thing to realize here is we aren’t holding anything hostage if we don’t hit the campaign goal. Everything will go towards doing our best to keep doing what we’re doing. If you like that, great. If you don’t, then don’t contribute. Q: Why don’t you have any cool physical rewards A: This actually ties into the last one. We’re asking for money so that we can move into a bigger space, hire more people, and make better content, NOT so we can sell you a bunch of stickers, T-shirts, and hats. If you want to contribute to Linus Media Group by buying a T-shirt, then go buy a T-shirt…. We have a variety of styles on both of our web shops. The usual complaint about the web stores is “omg the shipping is so expensive” to which I’d reply “Then I guess you figured out why physical merchandise would basically kill any possibility of using the funding from this campaign to fund a move. That cost doesn’t go away because it’s a special crowd-funding T-shirt. So out of that $25 reward tier, we’ll STILL be paying $8 per T-shirt and up to $13 or MORE for International shipping. Q: I don’t want to contribute because investing in a company without any ROI is stupid. I want to be a stakeholder. A: We don’t want stakeholders, and I suspect neither do the people who ARE contributing to our new office expansion - the closet thing we have to direct backers for our company! If we had stakeholders all of a sudden there might be pressure to start paying dividends and being accountable for the kind of content we’re making to some random that the community has never met. People are contributing because they want ME in charge without some shadow lurking over my shoulder telling me what to do.

What is this? As you may or may not have heard, we are moving to a new office very very soon! This is extremely exciting for all of us, as it means that we will have the space to put together amazing sets for our current shows as well as any shows that may come in the future. It also gives us the space to pick up some new team members here at LMG, something that we are pretty much out of in our current office... Over the next month and a bit, we will be running a crowdfunding campaign through the forum to help supplement our moving expenses and renovation costs. There will be some very cool contributor rewards and quite a few awesome stretch goals (more info on those soon :D). Now, many moons ago when the forum was but a wee discussion board, we promised that we would never add a top banner ad to our site. We know that many of you guys appreciate that, and we never plan to accept payment for a top banner spot on our forum. However, with your approval, we would love to be able to advertise our own crowdfunding campaign in the top banner spot. Obviously our dedicated community members will find out about the campaign either way, but casual visitors might not see it unless it is prominently displayed in a spot like the top banner. So please answer the poll and leave your thoughts down below. Can we add a top banner for our own campaign? Would we be going against our word to do so even though it's for our own campaign with no third party involved? Rest assured, we won't be adding a top banner ad for our crowdfunding campaign unless there is an immensely positive response to this poll. Thanks everyone! -Nick
