From the album: Another bum
Need to make room for the bottom of the MX switch. -
hi guys i recently built a new PC and recently i have been noticing that my keyboard, mouse and other USB tech have been switched off as if it was short circuiting or something i noticed it during recording some game play but my elgato which is inputed through PCI-E still was running fine but all USB related things had gone for something like 3 minutes Specs below if this helps: i7-6800k at 3.4ghz x99 deluxe 2 MB from ASUS GTX 1080 Strix from ASUS Corsair dominator platinum 32 GB i have checked the usb ports themselves for any thing out of the ordinary but part of me is thinking it could either be: Faulty MB or Faulty CPU or Lack of Power which is absurd as i have 850 watts of power

Following 3 years and 3 generations of defective keyboards, Apple has finally given Apple stores the tools they need to perform keyboard repairs/replacements in-store. That Memo says: This new policy follows the Keyboard replacement program, which Apple started to replace the keyboards on affected Macs for free, from Summer of last year. That program would require Apple to send your Mac to a repair facility and it would take about a week to get your machine back. This new repair policy is great news for those who have held off on getting their keyboards serviced because they could not afford to be without their Macs for a week. The next day turn arounds mean that people can now get their machines serviced on Saturday morning and pick it up and use it in time for work or school on time for Monday. Of note: Macs with 3rd gen. Keyboards (2018 MacBook Pros and the MacBook Air) are not eligible for this escalated repair at this time. Personally, I have not had any major issues that would warrant my sending my machine out or bringing it in. I've been able to resolve any "sticky keys" with a simple can of compressed air and I only have an intermittent double tap of my x key, which is hard to notice because X is literally the least used letter in the English language. Regardless, my experience does not discount the experiences of others, and I'm sure that those who have been affected by keyboard issues will welcome this new repair policy. In mid 2018 Apple released the 2018 line of MacBook Pros. These Macs featured spec upgrades including Vega graphics and the option to go up to 32GB of RAM. These Macs were also upgraded with another version of Apples infamous Butterfly Keyboard. This version of the keyboard featured a silicon membrane that both made the keys less noisy, but were also speculated to have some level of ingress protection against dust/dirt/hair/etc. This membrane was added after overwhelming evidence that the 2016/17 iterations of the butterfly keyboard were unreliable. Some users reporting of "keys that stick" or repeated key presses when only one key press was made. Apple had hopped that the new generation of keyboard would resolve these issues (though they never acknowledged them publicly and claimed that the new membrane was to dampen the sound of the keys), but a new video from Unbox Therapy seems to have cast that hope out of the window. In the video you can see that his issue is the "e" key, only the most common letter in the English language. Seemingly at random the key will present more than character per keypress. (Speculation) This happens when "something" gets under the key switch and gets in-between the metal dome of the switch and the board that tells the computer that a key has been pressed. The only way to fix this is to "smash" that "something" out of the switch or to completely replace keyboard and top case. (Speculation ends) Previously users could get this repair for free with 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pros with seemingly no limit on the number of replacements you could get. However those programs just swap the keyboard for the same faulty design. 2018 MacBook owners are not currently covered by any outstanding repair program. Users suffering from this issue are however covered under the Manufacture 1 year warranty because of how new these Macs are. We are likely to see Apple expand the keyboard replacement program in the future once the 1 year warranties on these machines run out, but that still sucks for the end user because having to ship out the machine that you potentially depend on is not really convenient. The solution is not free replacement programs, the solution is a keyboard design that doesn't blow... Personally I love the way the new keys feel, but I'm not trilled on their reliability. Hi All, I have a switchable USB hub (UGREEN 30767) that feeds 2 computers (both Win7). This hub switches my wireless keyboard & mouse (Logitech MK550) between the two computers. The problem is when I switch, it takes 25s plus for the PCs to detect the keyboard and mouse. It appears that Windows does some driver detection business every time I switch which takes a while. I've noticed that if I switch back and forth at the windows login screen before I've logged in, it is very quick to pick the keyboard & mouse back up, but not after I've logged into windows. Does anyone know if I can somehow force/trick windows into not removing the devices and thus not having to re-detect and install them every time I switch PCs? Or perhaps some other workaround to make the switch very snappy? Thanks all! Andrew.

Hi All! I am trying to get my corsair K95 to launch some of my steam games with my macros but if I don't have steam open then the game will not launch. I get an error message which pretty much tells me to launch steam. What I would like to ask is, is there a way for me to map my game to open and also simultaneously launch steam? If not then will I just have to launch steam first and then press my macro for the game? Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful day!

2016 MacBook Pro Keyboards failing 2x more than older models
DrMacintosh posted a topic in Tech News
There were rumors that the 2017 Macs had a slightly different keyboard design but I have never tested one out before and was never compelled to care about the 2017 model as they were just almost unnoticeable refreshes. It would appear though that those machines also addressed an issue that Apple knew about internally......bad keyboards. Just some background on how they conducted their testing. So essentially this is where the "twice as much" comes from. While 12% is high in the context of consumer electronics, it is not as bad as many of claimed it to be on platforms such as Reddit. 12% is, imo, not acceptable from a company like Apple and I am hoping for free/cheap keyboard replacements for the life of the machine or some sort of recall program. Building machines with a spotty keyboard when I played $1,250 (Thanks Presidents Day sale) for this machine is not cool. 2017 machines seem to be a lot better at the moment but data is still not complete as stated. With the significant improvement if enough people complain we might be able to get a "Keyboard Replacement Program" for the 2016 MacBook Pros. I agree, I love my 2016 MacBook Pro. High Sierra 10.13.4 has some issues but that is software, but the 2016 Macs themselves have minor problems. 2016 MacBooks creek sometimes, the 13" models can have their batteries fail (there is a free replacement program which may or may not replace your keyboard as well since they remove the entire top assembly), and now it is confirmed that the keyboards in them are prone to failure. Given the irreparable nature of the 2016 MacBook Pros keyboard, the only way I can see Apple making this right it to launch a program like the ones I described earlier. I will be holding off any MacBook Pro recommendations until Apple releases a statement on this issue Source: https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/04/30/2016-macbook-pro-butterfly-keyboards-failing-twice-as-frequently-as-older-models- 69 replies

VisionTek unveils Waterproof Bluetooth Mini Keyboard for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS By: Brian Fagioli http://betanews.com/2016/02/01/visiontek-unveils-waterproof-bluetooth-mini-keyboard-for-windows-mac-android-and-ios/ Looking for Water Proof Bluetooth Keyboard? Well VisionTek may have what you want. This is not a 'breakthrough' tech by far but its a step according to VisionTek. Well this is cool I could definitely use one myself though I cannot see myself in need of the waterproofing personally but for those of the germophobe nature may appreciate this one. These start at $20 USD. https://www.visiontek.com/mobile-lifestyle/mini-keyboards/waterproof-bluetooth-foldable-universal-mini-keyboard-windows-mac-chrome-android-ios-detail.html {As an afterthought, Mods this may belong in Peripherals, my apologies}

I've been looking at a few keyboards and I'm not sure which one I should go for. Theres the Azio Levetron L70: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F8W9SWQ/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza, for $30. I like this mostly because it just looks good and is a decent price. Then theres the Steelseries Apex: http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-64145-Apex-Gaming-Keyboard, which I could get for $50. This one's good because tons of macros, slim keys, and I really like the USB ports on the back. Finally, we have the Azio MGK1-K: http://www.amazon.com/Azio-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard-MGK1-K/, which is awesome because its mechanical and looks really nice, but its $90 and I really don't want to spend that much. I'm only considering it because it's mechanical. So what do you guys think? Also if you have any other suggestions for keyboards and input is welcome.

I got a new keyboard a couple days ago and i noticed that one of the arrow keys does not make the mx blue click*, its just a little harder to press instead. it feels like it wants to click but it just cant. is there any way to fix this? its not really worth returning the keyboard over because its just and arrow key

I currently have a Sidewinder x4, its been a good keyboard but the problem is space constraints, it has a num-pad and macros making it too big for where it needs to be, its positioned over a crack that joins 2 desks and to use it i have to be a bit off to the left of my monitor. Long story short I need a 10-keyless keyboard. Budget is a concern, as close to $60 as possible, i've spent waaaaay too much on computers this year (about $1000 since january, none of which is in my tower....and the year is only half over), as to the question of mech keyboards it seems the only ones in my reach are Cooler Master Storm Quickfires. I would prefer a relatively quiet keyboard, maybe browns? the only mech keys i have tried out were reds i think, only tried them for a few seconds. i am very picky with my peripherals. what are your thoughts and suggestions on the subject? Requirements *** 10-keyless *backlight if possible for my budget (green or red to match my mionix mouse which does both colors well) *possibly mechanical *quiet *around $60 I really like the look of the Corsair K65, it would probably look good in front of my Asus MX279H :) but its too expensive and not available yet. Okay rambling is over.

Heya Fellas, Just purchased a Deck Hassium with blues. I'd already done my research and new it was the one for me but I was wondering what your thoughts on the unit were? I myself needed to stray from my current blacks as they are too heavy for me now that I'm learning to type properly. Cheers! -bradscoolio
