So i'm trying to get an internship for summer break working with the IT staff and the head IT member wants me to thoroughly go through Flutter to learn about web development. The only issue is that i had a conversation with him one day and I brought up specifically that I don't like programming and would rather stay within the bounds of infrastructure work. I'm mostly wondering, should I let him know that I don't like web dev and would rather do things related to what I'm interested in? It feels like it would risk my internship chances but I'm not interested (plus its too much to do at the same time as school) in what he sent me.

Hey guys.... I am happy to announce that, only a few short months after I re-located to Dubai UAE, I have found a new job @iStyle. It's an Apple Retailer here. I love the idea that I will be surrounded by Apple products. No I am not an Apple Fanboy. As proof I own an iPhone 4S, an iPad Air 1st Gen and a Galaxy Note 3. The Note 3 is my daily driver, the iPhone 4S is only used for my Lebanese line which I seldom use. I love both platforms equally. Anyway, I will be occupying the Sales Executive position. It's my first time. Usually, I am more of a Tech Support in the Hardware and Software department. I really hope I do well, simply because main salary is kinda low, so I will be relying on the commission side. The more I sell, the more I make $$$$... It's my first job here in Dubai, I don't know how things work around here. In Lebanon, my home country, there are no rules. What I mean, back there, clients who either bought or own an iPhone, come to us to Jailbreak them, and add a few tweaks. Here, the term Jailbreak is frowned upon. We are not allowed to mention it, short of getting fired, or worse, BANNED!] What do you guys think ?

I didn't think it would happen in this small town, but I was offered to work for a wireless Internet company that has some contracts lined up. The business owner can't do all this work on his own and wants me to start as soon as possible. It will be a great opportunity for me to learn things that I have never learnt before such as IP PBX, core switching, and firewall configuration using Barracuda firewall appliances. The pay would be nearly equal to what I am making now, and this is truly something that I want to do. I have previous experience installing wireless radios (Canopy), so there won't be much to learn. I can now finally say to Ricoh.... ……..…../´¯/)……….. (\¯`\ …………/….//……….. …\\….\ ………../….//………… ….\\….\ …../´¯/…./´¯\………../¯ `\….\¯`\ .././…/…./…./.|_……_| .\….\….\…\.\.. It's been a while since I've updated this and I kinda feel bad by not doing so. With this I'll update anything that's happened over the past few weeks. It's been a bit eventful but it seems that what has been happening is kinda changing how I've been seeing my life now. First, tech... As you may of known, I already aquired my GTX 780 Classified and you all know I'm absolutely loving it. Even with the new card I still have my old GT60 for VGA support to my side monitor. Reason behind this is that the 610 with VGA beats my 780 with HDMI in color quality and compatibility. Strange how older tech can still be used, huh? Now I've been able to play more games than before and really has been a nice thing for me. Completed Crysis 2 and going full on in Hawken really gives me fun now. However, there are still changes to be done. My main goal now with my rig is to expand on storage and memory. Currently running 8GB single channel has shown that a few of my programs might benefit from at least twice (16GB). Now with the greater access to my anime shows (thanks @TopWargamer!) it seems my old WD Blue 500GB will have to be used, even at it's questionable state. My main drive is also filling up and it seems I'll have to expand. Second, life... Now life has been a bit questionable over the past weeks. Friends leaving, family seeming to go against you, and my life itself have been a strange thing. As some may know, I've been going to the hospital and my actual state is questionable, I have suspicion and probable proof of something wrong. I already stole the data from the hospital on a CD given to my mother over the weekend. Is there something wrong? I wouldn't know... Another thing is that I seem to have gain the trust of more and more of my friends, which is nice. But some seem to be fading out of their own shells. It's sad to see and now I'm trying to keep them in line and remember that it's all good for now. Same has been done over the weekend and really it does show me how I gotta be more social. I've only become this openly social this year which has become nice. This week was just bowling with a few friends and now next week it's sushi with this chick. It's strange how times change... Is life good now? Maybe... I am already seeing people again and having a bit of more fun in life which is seemingly nice. But the question is... How long will it last? Or better yet, how long will I last to see it?

Hi guys. Well, life is changing (kinda). I have multiple job opportunities to strive for before me. Here they are: On my LinkedIn page (which my current employer requires we all have for business relations reasons), another IT firm/thing has sent me a message about being interested in hiring me. While this sounds cool, I've never heard of them. They are a little over an hour away, and I know nothing about any of that (their location, the people there, etc.) However, they have it on their webpage and in this message that they believe people should love where they work. That's right up my alley because that's how my current employer is and it's a generally good thing (obviously). It's 20 minutes from a relative I could stay with, and odds are, I would be paid a bit more. It's just a matter of "It's new and I have to start over being social." basically, but I get that's just part of a new job and I should get used to it. So yeah. That's one option. My ultimate problem in life is that I'm complacent. If I could just stay doing what I'm doing all my life, I'm fine with that, even with my pay. I'd live in my vehicle and sell my house if I could do so with a server and computer/connection to the internet and the basic amenities (i.e. RV) if I could. But tis life. The next option I have is to work at my step-dad's employer. They. Sound. Awesome. He actively gets bonuses (for being a good employee of course) frequently, stocks, and all sorts of bonus "reward" things. Though I'm not sure if that's just because they like him and he's good at what he does, but from what I've heard from him, that's kind of how it is for everyone at his workplace. I'd probably have to move because it's as far or further than the prior job and I wouldn't be working in the same place he does, so I can't ride with him there. I've heard the pay is good as well. The only problem is, again the "I have to be social" thing, and that I know little of what I would actually be doing. They have an IT position open (according to him), but ... that is very vague. I guess I'll just have to explore this one more. The problem with the above two things is that they are just work experience. I'd really like to go back to college at some point. Anything that helps me do that is a major plus. Which brings me to the next one: The Air Force (or other military branch). The Air Force specifically has their own college which is acredited and accepted by the southern colleges (some board thing where they all accept each other's credits and stuff). A negative is the training because it will be hard, but I am sure I can handle it, but it's a positive because I would learn a lot of useful life skills as well. A negative is I would be away from my family, but to me, that's also a positive. I think they are a bit too dependent on me to be honest. They need to sort their things out and I am not the type of person to turn down helping someone unless I have to. This would make it a "have to". A negative is that I might get paid better elsewhere, but I have 2 years of college (67 hours of credit) already and that guarantees me a promotion and pay raise when I leave basic, so it's not that big of a negative. Plus I get college credit for basic, so not much of a negative at all. Then there's the benefits of the military (insurance, pensions, that stuff). However, there is the huge negative to this that it's entirely possible that World War III will start soon. The world is just like it was before WW I & II. The US is in an isolationist mind set just like it was after the Spanish-American War. Russia is pulling some Nazi stuff with Crimea and the Ukraine. I mean really. It's not that out there that I might be deployed to a battle zone. Which, I'd accept if I were in the military, but it's something to consider. Overall, this is probably the best choice in terms of overall package. However, I may or may not be disqualified due to varying reasons. We will see. And yeah. Those are my 3 options currently. A 4th would be to stay where I am, but .... eh. That would kind of rock and suck at the same time. I love it here, but .. the pay and the career ladder aren't there. Sometimes that's worth it, but only if you are older and have the capital to take a hit in your potential pay. I'm not, and don't. What do you guys think? Any advice and/or knowledge to give? Thanks, Vitalius.

Hi everyone, so I have just finished High School and Have managed to land a job as a Junior IT Tech. The company that I will be working with, will allow be to get a whole list of qualifications in networking and many others. At the same time, I will be studying part time to get my Diploma in IT. My end goal with all this is to finally make the leap to Cybersecurity analyst a couple of years down the track. What else will I need to make the jump to Cybersecurity analyst?

Let say that i'm getting paid between 25-30$/h and i need your help on how to increase it - Im not working full time (160h/m) more like 20-40h per month or as needed - they do not cover my tax - or my pension - I do not get paid for being sick aka not getting paid for sick leave - no paid vacations, - they do not cover a meal cost - not getting any compensation or bonuses Is that fair pay? I personally think i could get paid between 50-100$ for that very reason I have skills; in servers, networking, Linux, cloud, and so on... I do not think im the best, but at lesat very good or at least good enough to get the work done. What are your opinions on that thing as a whole, because I am pretty new in the space of contracting and freelancing. I know I should have negotiated a little bit better, but I will do better next time.

Hi guys, I'm seriously wondering about what am I gonna do after high school, computers are maybe the only thing I can really say I get along well with and have always liked and have confidence I know a fair bit, but despite this have never been really into coding. Just not interested. Not that I'm really bad with it but I have only found real interest in PC's and laptops and such.. Right now I'm very into PC hardware, but what can I even do with this knowledge and the enthusiasm for it? I mean, what - work at micro center? There aren't even any in my country, in general there is nothing to do with it at least in my country :( Maybe fix computers, but really no more than that. I don't see what can I do in the future. I don't wanna become a youtuber or something like that.. And I honestly wonder what I'm gonna do. Maybe work at AMD or Intel or even making laptops would be very cool, but I really can't see anything of this happening in real life. Where do you even start.. Do you have any suggestion? Or even in a similar story to mine? I'd love to hear :)

Hi! first of all you guys are awesome , its non tech related subject but i'm hoping someone can help me... So my girlfriend works in such a job that she has no right to disclose any information about the company. she found a great job listing and they of course require experience in that field which she sure has but she can not give either manager's number or company name. it's some translating stuff . So what i wanted to ask is that if you guys ever had similar experience , what did you do? how did you convince them with a resume or short text about yourself without giving any information about your current work except what you do for that "X" company thanks!..

I'm 14 years old and have been building pc's by myself for a year and a half now and flipping them for a profit. But unfortunately business is low due to cornavirus and i need a real job. I'm really into pc's and building them and just want to know if there are any jobs that a 14 year old could do involving that field of work.

Hi, I was wondering If any of you knew any good summer jobs or entrepreneur jobs that a 15 yr old can do in the U.S.? I know that I could start a computer building business. But I don't have a lot of money. I love working with computers but I like the IT side of computers a little more than the programming side. I like to be hands on with them and just a lot of fun making things work. A few things I've been looking into Bitcoin mining(or altcoin) Programming websites Working at a farm Repairing PC's Building PC's Hosting Servers Youtube That's really it. But if any of you know a good job for someone like me please let me know!

I can't make up my mind on a college major and I think the two most likely ones would be Information Technology Management (basically a 2 year in business combined with 2 year in networking/IT) or electrical/computer engineering. I was previously already enrolled in electrical engineering but I hated all the math and physics I had to do and ended up failing by calc 2 and second physics class. I love the idea of creating computer hardware but I hate all the math and physics and I also enjoy working both at a computer but mostly hands on. I don't want a job where I spend 90% of my day on a computer. I'm afraid of just taking the IT route and getting stuck in IT just fixing other peoples problems. I hate dealing with people who don't know what they're talking about and I don't want to live my life being that guy you call when you're office printer stops working. It would give me the hands on job I crave but I fear it would get old really fast. Anyone have any suggestions for choosing my major? Especially if you're in either one of those fields I would love to hear your feedback and to hear about what your day to day life in your job is like.

So I work for the local YMCA in the child watch center. I watch kids ages 3-12 years old and make sure they don't hurt themselves. I can't calm a screaming child to save my life. So I worked a shift from noon to 4pm and things began to get interesting. Two kids who see me constantly because I work so much decided I was a jungle gym to climb on. One little one decided the leg was the best spot to hang on while her sister decided my head is the best target. They came from 2 different directions one from my left and the other off a bench on my right. Once both children had a death grip hugging me the others came. Two boys, brothers of course, decided to aid in this assault on my balance. One came head on and tried to near tackle my waist. The other was going for the free leg. Through sweat and tears I trudged my way to the bench. More. It was one then it was ten. All in one giant pile of arms, legs, and heads on one bench. If this doesn't get sent across the building I will be surprised.

Hi All, For background: I'm a student and getting into looking at potential career paths in my interests. I love all the LTT videos, but I find myself extra attracted to the ones involving servers, networking, and system building. What would a career / educational path in this field be called? (Network Administration, Systems Integration, System Administration, etc.) Thank you!

I'm looking to create a basic algorithm that allocates jobs to workers based on skill level and workload. however, I'm stumped at where to start. Background Mobile phone repair store Worker qualifications stored in text files Algorithm is run as button click on the Add Repair Form (VB.net) Requirements Algorithm Reads worker files sequentially, noting the current workload value, finds the worker with at least amount of work checks if he is qualified to do the task If yes assigns job, If no, checks the next worker if 2 workers have the same amount of current jobs reads the first (sorted alphabetically) and runs checks im struggling to even get psuedocode out for this. All Help appreciated (Not asking for a full creation, just how to make this possible, pseudocode wise) Basic attempt at flow chat may help

Hey everyone. I want to ask a few questions about something that I have to get sorted for university pretty soon, and would like input/opinions. I'm currently studying as a Computing and Games Development student (1st year). In-between my 2nd and final year, I have to do a 1-year placement that is relevant for my course - in my case, games development. I've been told that I don't have to think too much into it until my second year, but I still have some questions, which if possible would like your input on. After looking at the sheet provided to me by my university, there are only around 10 companies in the UK that have offered placement in the past to students at the university and course I attend. As such I've been thinking about widening my search and was curious of the following: Would it be possible to do placements outside of the UK? if so, how would I go about that? Would I have to contact companies directly or go through my university? (I say this as nearly everything they provide is UK based) Would I have to get a student visa (if needed)? Finance and living, how would I arrange something like that when I'm from a different country? If so, what companies/places would you say would be the best to ask/look for placements? Basically, I have a lot of questions on my mind, and I don't really know where to start - so any help would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Hi everyone, I'm a self employed computer consultant but I'm thinking of taking on full time work with a company. This question is geared towards systems administrators and network engineers. I'd like to buff up on any knowledge gaps by asking what a day in the life of your particular job is like. What technologies does your company implement? What MaaS, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS platforms do you use? How many servers do you manage? Do you employ a lot of virtualization? What ticketing systems do you use? Does your job expect you to be cross trained in programming, web development, and database management? Walking me through a day in your job would be cool. As I make money as a self employed contractor, I still do a lot of self study and it would be nice to bone up before possibly shooting for an interview. I also scan through job requirements on job listings but it would be nice to hear some word of mouth. Thanks.

Backstory, I used to work at geek squad moved states but couldn't transfer and with several months of working construction (guy didn't pay me on time/at all). After several months of searching for an office job got one working as a system administrator. Went through the interview process realized I didn't meet all the requirements for the job but said that I wanted to learn this field. Was offered the job on the understanding that I am learning. I have self taught and documented everything I do. The IT Manager said that he would train me but he hasn't done anything except belittle me, and my ideas, and constantly threaten's to fire me for not knowing what to do. I did find out the other day he didn't want me hired but he wanted two other guys to take the job. They just chose me because I was cheap, I told them up front I will be learning and got the job at $14 /hour (US). I took it upon myself to learn what to do and how to do it. My biggest accomplishments I feel is: Set a process in place for backing up the server and restoring said server from backup (using what hardware I had on hand and freeware) Creating and updating a wiki with guides and troubleshooters Optimizing their hardware using processors that are rated at 6% workstation capabilities on CPU.Userbenchmark.com I have done other things as well that saves them money and fail over situations. Am I doing this right? The IT Manager doesn't give me anything good and just calls me a waste of IT that is just a really good "google'r." They only have me around primarily for fixing a printer or a scanner that has quit working. They don't give me any programming assignments (they are aware I'm going to school to get a software engineering degree) and yet they have people learning how to use C++. This is a family owned company no big corporation. What am I doing wrong/right? Is this normal for a System Administrator?

Kind of tired of working in the tech industry. I've worked various technical support roles for computers, home theater systems, televisions, been a network administrator, a network engineer, a network security engineer and technical support for enterprise security appliances. The pay is good (now anyways) and I know the common issue is always me. I love technology. I just am tired of having to pick up the phone for it. Any suggestions? I'll take any comments...deep, shallow, constructive, funny, 'suck it up buttercup', etc.

Having recently turned 24 years old and since completed my last IT related college course in 2013, I have spent the past 4 years trying my best to begin a career in IT. I have always been a computer enthusiast and it has been my dream to one day achieve a skill job in Information Technology, but on every interview I ended up being beaten to a candidate with at least 1 year of IT work experience. If there is a course online I can take for additional qualifications which might help, then I would be very interested to find out. I want to spend money on additional qualifications, but I want to be well informed and sure that what I'd be spending money on is actually beneficial towards getting a job. My budget is £3,000 (basically my savings) and I am willing to quit my current job if that's what it takes to gain the right skills. Being an IT technician is the only thing I ever wanted to be professionally and I would give it everything I've got if I knew which direction to go in. I'm looking into networking, hardware and software, but I am open to the idea of starting from quite low down in areas of programming. Let me give you an example of a new entry level IT job I would try to apply for: I know for a fact and are fed up of the fact that every time I would apply to a job like this I would either get no response, or a notice I wasn't successful, or sometimes I would get an interview and then be told days later I'm not experienced enough. I feel like I've been so long outside the IT scene that I need to revise things I have learned about how networks work. What I am really trying to find out is what qualifications I can gain that would make an employer look at my résumé and think I was made of the right stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am willing to do exactly what I said to push towards getting an IT job. By the way, I live in the city of Bristol, within the United Kingdom.

Hi everyone, i've been learning graphics designing for 9+months, a friend who started before me got a i job in a studio, he's a Facebook friend, we never met. But he's saying people over there liked my artworks, so they wanted to hire me. but my parents told me to say no to him for now that i don't have to go to job atleast for now. And one thing about me is i didn't attend college, and i started learning 3D graphics designing one year later. And i'm gonna get my NID next month Btw sometime it feels boring to spend time in my house all day, so i wanted to join them, I think that offer still stands, if not then that friend will try to hire me again, but my parent are saying i don't have to go right now. but i think for my future i should get that job, atleast for job experience. since some big studio demands job experiences. another thing i live in a small country but full of way too many people, that's why my parents are worried about leaving me alone. So what should i do now? if i join them then i wanted to join 2/3 months later (oh and another thing that friend is also 19+ and dropped out from college)
