I am Planning to buy a 4070 super for my pc that I'm building. I was planing to get one from gigabyte or msi but saw that they where $50 or $30 more than just a founders edition card. They have a higher boost frequency but by only like 60 hertz. I was wondering if I should save my money and go with the founders edition card and if the 60 or so hertz would matter and be noticeable in gaming.

Hello everyone! I currently run a laptop and external monitor setup with an Asus G752VY laptop connected to Asus Swift PG248Q Monitor, I have been trying to achieve anything higher than 60Hz as it seems to cap my FPS. I just bought a new HDMI 2.1 cable as I have researched that is is capable of achieving those higher Hz but I am having troubles and I need to reach out for assistance. Anything over 60Hz my monitor will turn black and come up with "Out of Range" error until it resets to prior settings. My laptop screen is 144Hz and have been using it smoothly for quite some time. However today out of the blue the bottom 1/5th of the screen turned black. When I changed the refresh rate for the display from windows settings to 60 Hz the display became visible albeit with some lines which slowly disappeared over time. However when I switch back to 144Hz it turns black again. I don't know what's causing this. I tried updating the AMD driver (integrated GPU for the display) but it didn't help.

I am playing Watch Dogs Legion at the moment and attempting to play the game at a consistent smooth 60fps. My monitor however is 75 fps and my computer isn't able to get a stable framerate that high so i cap the game at 60. This helps but the game is still jittery so I cap the actual games output at 60fps. This greatly improves the smoothness but I notice that my colours become greatly washed out. Is there anyway to keep my colours as they were at 75 fps if I cap the games output below my monitors refresh rate?

Hi everyone, I have been trying to buy a decent monitor for some time now as an upgrade from my BenQ VZ2350 display I bought in 2017 but I need help from some who knows more about displays. So I don't really mind about response time as I don't play FPS games, more into RDR2, Tomb Raider and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. All I want is a sharp, crystal clear display that has really good contrast and black levels, and has to be 1440p with high DPI. Something above 60hertz refresh rate would be nice. Basically something that can do justice for the RTX 3080 graphical detail, all in all good color reproduction. I don't want to spend more than 500 USD on it either, that's why I need help with this. So far I checked the BenQ EX2780Q. Thank you in advance

Hello. My refresh rate for the resolution I most used (1280x1024) was 75Hz, on a 60Hz monitor. I felt my games not quite as well as they used to so I checked my refresh rate, where there is no 75Hz option anymore. Any ideas what it could be? I tried custom resolutions, but games do not see them. P.S. Monitor is AOC 24B1H, I never had this problem before.

I bought this brand new LG Display that says it is 75 hertz. When I got everything hooked up and ready to go, I was capping at 60 fps, which confused me because I thought 75 hertz means that I SHOULD be getting 75 fps.

Hello, I have been looking at some monitors recently, and I've been having troubles deciding which ones I should get, so I need some help. First of all, can someone explain the differences between refresh rate (Hz) and Response Time (ms,) and if there is a correlation? I've been looking on Amazon and Newegg for monitors, but all it says it what the response time is, not the refresh rate. Next thing is, can someone suggest some monitors for me? I would like a 1080p monitor, that can display at least 120hz. (Just assume that my graphics card can push out that framerate.) Under $300 would be preferable. (Prices in Canadian please!) Thank you so much, and I hope to see all of you again, Clumsy

Hey, I'm planning for another upcoming build which is going to be my main gaming machine/workstation specs ryzen 5 1600 4ghz oc EVGA 980 ti Superclocked ACX 2.0+ oc 16GB DDR4-2800 maybe oc to 3200 Win 10 Pro 27' Dell 2560x1600 IPS 60hz oc 19' Philps 1440x900 60hz oc <left out redundant stuff> one question, will I be able to connect my old laptop to be my 3rd screen? My old laptop is a Toshiba A-665 (i7, 6gb DDR3). I want to connect it because it has a 120hz screen, which would be optimal when I play FPS games like CSGO, I'm not too bothered about the mere 1366x768 screen because come on, it's just CSGO.

Okay, if i have a GTX 1080 and a 1440p 144hz FreeSync display, will i ever get screentearing even though the gpu will almost never give out more than 144fps?

Going to buy a new TV for my PC monitor and am stuck between two choices and would like input on which one before I have to choose later today They are both 55" and I like to be close to the screen for more realistic peripherals. One is curved (which I am interested in trying) with a supposed 8 ms response time but 60hz. http://www.thebrick.com/product/item/electronics/televisions-and-tv-accessories/televisions/brick/haier-55-curved-4k-uhd-television/1995107 The other is flat, 12 ms supposed response time and 120hz. http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/vizio-d-series-55-5464-diag-ultra-hd-full-array-led-smart-tv/6000196096259 Both are same price, the big question comes down to the 60hz on a TV with the other features I want against the 120

im looking into getting a 4k display for my second monitor, with the first being a qhd 165hz, and i was wondering if a 2080ti can even push past 60hz in most modern games at settings worth having the 4K in the first place. Whats the point in having detailed 4K to see that your game looks like garbage? if my i9-9900k and evga 2080ti are both OC, and it appears i hit the lottery w these, can it even push past the 60hz at ultra settings, or are these monitor companies hoping we're all stupid and dont think about this before we spend 1500 on a 144hz panel?

Hello, so I've been having this problem for a while. On every other game I can play on streched resolution with 75 hertz on my overclocked monitor but on fortnite it just doesn't work. Btw when i'm on 1920x1080 It magically works. I'm forced to play windowed mode to have a streched res with the extra hertz. Is there any way I can force the refresh rate from a software or something? I haven't found nothing in the game files to do so, don't suggest me to modify them. Oh and my gpu is a radeon rx 580 4gb and my monitor is a samsung s24d300.

windows Laptop to BenQ presentation tv "Refresh rate" issue
jjdrost posted a topic in Troubleshooting
we use laptops, which can be connected to a BenQ presentation TV. but if we connect it with my hdmi cable the laptop gives him only 30 hertz the screen does not work on 30 hertz. when I manually adjust it to 60 hertz he does. now we have 20 BenQ rp704k, all of which we have to enter manually at 60 hertz. Is it posible to set a standard of 60 hertz in Windows 10 for screens, or a script if you click on it, he puts all screens on 60 hertz?- 1 reply

Hey guys, I have a broken screen on my Razer Blade 15 (2018) RZ09-02705G76-R3G1, which I try to fix. The Screen serial number ist BOE NV156FHM-N61 I was wondering, whether I could use the opportunity to increase the Frequency on the Display by upgrading to a 120 or 144hz Display. However, since I am not an expert in this field I was wondering if anyone has a good suggestion on which Display might fit. Its a 30 pin Connection (if that helps :D) Thanks!

So, this is very dumb question but why would people pay lot extra for 144 hertz, than 120 hertz? There is literally no difference.. Why is it just 144 hertz? Why not 145? What is so special about 144, that people think its a lot better than 120?

Hey there Linus Tech Tips community, I am having this very annoying and persistent problem with my monitor's refresh rate on certain (mostly older) video games for a quite a long time now. Ever since I've changed to a new rig, which is running on Windows 10 with a single GTX 980 video card, I am having trouble with running (most importantly) Counter-Strike 1.6 on 120 Hz, or any higher frequency than 60 Hz. The monitor I am currently on is a first generation BenQ XL2410T, which I have been using for perhaps six years now and had no problem running on 120 Hz on my previous rigs, Windows XP and Windows 7 respectively. Unfortunately, CS 1.6 will almost always run on 60 Hz for the moment, unless I change my desktop resolution from native to 640x480 (the resolution I play the game on). Doing this will run the application on 120 Hz, but as soon as I ALT+TAB it will revert to my native desktop resolution (Windows 10 things I suppose?) and once again stuck itself to 60 Hz, which means I cannot do other stuffs simultaneously like watching over my Twitch stream for example, even that I use two monitors. I am using the original GoldSrc rendering system (-nofbo in the launch options) due to multiple clashes with the new one introduced with the 2012 updates. I do have the "-freq 120" launch option there too, which (in theory) determines the refresh rate on GoldSrc engine applications. I also tried to use Source engine's equivalent "-refresh 120", but with no success at all. Moreover I have configured "hl.exe" in the 3D settings inside the NVIDIA Control Panel to demand for the "highest available" refresh rate, and despite everything Windows 10 will refuse to run the game on anything, but 60 Hz, in most cases. I contacted both BenQ and NVIDIA, as well as Microsoft, on the regard, but none was able to offer any reliable solution. The problem does not lie in the monitor itself, despite BenQ claiming it is due to lack of drivers for Windows 10, as I have also tried this on a different Windows 10-powered machine with their newest 240 Hz gaming monitor series, which are supposedly 100% compatible with the aforementioned OS. I am not sure if this is entirely a Windows 10-caused problem, or something to do with the GTX 980 (and newer video cards in general). Back in the days we used to force certain refresh rate on monitors via an application called "RefreshLock", which (unfortunately) is no longer maintained and incompatible with Windows 10. My questions are: What sort of solutions are available and can be applied to force the OS to rely on 120 Hz at all times? Is there a similar modern application that can do the job like the one I mentioned above? Any suggestions that can (at least) make the process smoother than it is for me right now? I am relying on you, Linus and the band. Hey, at least it makes an interest subject for a video, don't you think? Cheers, Evgeni 'Zinnoc' Chardakov P.S. I am not interested in playing this particular game on any other resolution than 640x480, nor using the new render. I have the latest graphic drivers installed. I am using a DVI cabel. My native is resolution is 1920x1080 running on 120 Hz, duh. And, yes, I do like streaming Counter-Strike 1.6 and other older games. They're fun!

Hello everyone, So recently me and a friend got in a discussion, about having a frame rate which is either throttled to the same as your monitors refresh rate, or to just either set i to unlimited, or limit it to something high like 300. I was saying that it would make no difference if you had a frame rate higher than 144 on a 144 hertz screen, and it would just be a waste of hardware performance. While my friend was saying that 300 frames per second would be much better because it shows more recent frames. So, it really got me wondering, is there actually a difference? So i set up a quick example for my friend to prove a point. I said, imagine you had a 24 hertz screen with 24 frames per second. The catch was that it had to be one hundred percent stable frame rate, which is not realistic. But anyway i made a quick illustration showing that having a higher fps than your monitors refresh rate, would not show more recent frames. And when i made it i saw something that really got me wondering. Illustration OK so i proved my point, it does not show more recent frames and if you match hertz and frame rate perfectly, because it would not be able to show frames that have not been created yet (that is called time travel). But i noticed that having a higher frame rate would show delayed frames! So i opened a spreadsheet and i started doing the math. I calculated everything into milliseconds which is an easy equation (1000*1/x) with x being refresh rate or frame rate. That would quickly turn the hertz or frames per second into how many milliseconds it would take per update. Spreadsheet screenshot (full spreadsheet attached) So i noticed if you have one hundred percent stable frame rate if your frame rate is higher that your refresh rate on your monitor it would create an delay. It shows that with 300 frames per second on a 144 hertz screen, it would increase the delay from ~0.2 milliseconds to ~3 milliseconds where after 25 frames it would hit zero delay and start increasing the delay to ~3 milliseconds again. (Please note i did not take monitor response time into consideration, or fluctuations in frame rate) And it really confused me because it created delays up to three whole milliseconds, when we started our discussion i didn't even think this was the case. And i must admit, while i know a lot of things about computers. This is not my specialty, i tried to do a little reading but couldn't find anything on this specific topic. While i am pretty sure this is not the case in reality because of fluctuations in frame rate, and the fact that professional e-sport players would unintentionally create delay, which i am pretty sure they would not want to. So i was wondering if any smart heads that know a lot about these things could tell me if this is actually happening or if i really just misunderstood the whole principle. I attached the full spreadsheet where it shows all frames and delays for 1 whole second showing all the delays for 300 frames (-162 because they are replaced) And please do correct me if i am wrong, that is why i am posting this Thanks in advance! //Magnus5405 refresh rate and frame rate.xlsx

I have been windows 7 user since like beginning of this year, and i always OC'd my monitor to 75 Hz. I have 1080p 60 Hz monitor but usually i changed the resolution to 1280x1024 and overclocked to 75 Hz. But now when i choose the 1280x1024 resolution and the change the refresh rate to 75 Hz it changes to 640x480 instantly. So what do i do now? Can someone help?

I'm looking to buy a freesync monitor. Needs to be 24 inches to fit on my desk. I want really good colors and viewing angles. If I can squeeze in 144 hz that's great, but not needed. Im okay with 60 hz. I was considering this one https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX2457-MHD-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B018MYTH9U/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1513294894&sr=1-2&keywords=freesync%2Bmonitor%2B24&th=1 Any other suggestions?

I just installed a update for windows, then I decided to do the "reset this pc" in windows and tried to install csgo with the same settings I had before, and I am met with the game not launching, I can get the game to launch without any launch options I use -refresh 144 -novid -high -console -tickrate 128 +fps_max 999 +rate 128000 before, but not this makes the game not launch with any of these settings in the launch options. It use to work but now the game is a laggy mess being at 60hz when I usually play at 75HZ with the -refresh 144 command, it made the game smooth and bearable, but it's a ugly mess to play without those settings, any help please.
