As yesterday was my Birthday. I most likely got some extra cash to spend on something from the gifts I got. I was looking at new motherboards. I know that AMD has stated that *Some* X570 Motherboards will work with Ryzen Gen 1. However, I was wondering if anyone has had any bad luck (or good) with the Motherboards that are reported to work with the older CPUs. Seeing as though my Tomahawk Arctic B350 board is actually the worst motherboard I have ever owned. I was thinking of upgrading to X570 from B350. Might not go with MSI this time around unless people have good stuff to say about this round of chipsets from them. I love MSI don't get my wrong. Just rubbed me the wrong way this time around. So the problems I have with the B350 Motherboard I have now is: DIMM Slots A1 and B1 are dead, no physical damage that I can see. So wasn't me. RAM WILL NOT go any higher than 2133 even in the working ports. Manually input or XMP does not matter. Not even up to 2134mhz. My ram speed is rated for 3200mhz and is a CAS 16 Kit of 32GB G,Skill Royal so I know its not the RAM My dad is using my old sticks with no issue. The B350 board is also overvolting my CPU by more than it should. I can even set parameters in the BIOS and it still does it. Power delivery on that board is nowhere near robust enough to push it that hard. Also the reason for the "Path(s)" in the title is my wife's X370 Pro Carbon is also having the RAM issue and will not clock faster than 2133 by even 1mh. She is running a 1700x that I built her after our wedding. Her Hard-drive/SSDs will occasionally disappear from her BIOS menu. Not just one either. It will be all of them. Have to plug them back in, but in different SATA slots for them to be recognized again. So it isn't any of the drives. Originally I thought it was something to do with her graphics card because of the hard crashing to desktop or all together crashing the whole PC. I sent a ticket to MSI, have yet to hear from them after the first reply of basically: do all of the trouble shooting I already did to it again. for a second time. However, came to find it was the motherboard the whole time. Still no response, didn't even tell them I figured it out. Since I don't think anyone would of even looked at it anyway. So if any of you have good or bad experiences with Gen1 Ryzen on X570 boards please let me know & with what boards were you using. I do plan on upgrading to 3600XT/3950x of whatever 4000 or higher series brings to the mix but need to save up more. Figured the Motherboard would be the best first step. Seeing as though this Motherboard is mostly dead already don't want to keep my perfectly fine 1600x in there to have it potentially get damaged. I have done BIOS updates on both systems in recommended order. Thanks in advanced! Specs of my B350 and Wifes X370 PC so I don't get asked: RTX 2080 (Regular) MSI B350 Tomahawk Arctic Ryzen 5 1600x (2x16) 32GB 3200mhz G.Skill Royal RAM RoseWill Quark Platinum 1000W PSU Fractal Design Celsius S36 AIO CPU Cooler 3 1TB HDD(s) 7200RPM 1 256GB G.Skill Phoenix SSD 1 500 GB WD Blue M.2 drive. Some of that overkill for a 1600x, I know. Upgrades down the line was on my mind more than does it match at the time. Wifes PC: X370 Pro Carbon AC WIFI MSI GTX 1080TI Seahawk Ryzen 7 1700x RoseWill Quark Platinum 1000W PSU Fractal Design Celsius S36 AIO CPU Cooler (2x8) 16GB G.Skill Trident Z 3000mhz CAS 16 2 1TB HDD(s) 7200RPM 1 Samsung EVO (960 I think?) 500GB SSD

CPU: * 8-core Zen-2 Renoir (12mb total cache) bare minimum cache * 6-core+SMT Zen-2 Matisse (35mb total cache) bare minimum core count, aim for 3600X or tweak a 3600. * 6-core+SMT Zen-3 Cezanne (19mb total cache) recommended * 6-core+SMT Zen-3 Vermeer (35mb total cache) even better! * AMD/Intel CPU with similar performance or better. GPU: * Radeon RX 6600 XT (bare minimum, matches PS5 RDNA2 in TFLOPS) * Radeon RX 6700 XT (recommended matches the Xbox Series X in RDNA2 TFLOPS) * AMD/Nvidia GPU with similar performance or better. RAM: * DDR4-3200 16GB minimum, 32GB dual-rank kit is probably best. That about sums it up, prices for each item will no way in hell beat a console but at the very least it is yours & should last about as long if you plan to match them. Disclaimer: PC ports may suck major ass and cannot always be a 1 to 1 comparison...

I spent quite a long time trying to find a comprehensive test of CPU power consumption compared to their computational power, meaning energy efficiency. Techpowerup does efficiency measurements in their more recent CPU reviews, however generations older than the 7th Intel Core generation or 1st AMD Ryzen generation. How do Haswell processors compare? How does Sandy-Bridge compare? Broadwell? Skylake? AMD Bulldozer? All of them had significant jumps in Lithography shrinking, while the newer ones... well you know how long Intel has been using 14 nm. Craft computing has recently uploaded a video about old Xeon processors, E5 2667 v4 Broadwell to be exact which showed their gaming performance mostly on par with a Ryzen 7 3700X, but failed to measure their power consumption. This is still great information to see that you don't have to spend obscene amounts of money just to run Borderlands 3 or The Witcher 3 on FullHD. Now I know everything is processor to processor and stuff, but I also know that big jumps in efficiency these days are very useful to know about in the current energy crisis (even though its kinda under control right now) and the ever-hotter summer months which combined with the energy crisis is not good for your A/C bill (assuming you even have one). Is there any source you know of that could provide such information? I know that cpubenchmark.net has one, but their power consumption values come straight from TDP which as we all know is nearly useless these days, although if you think it might be of use let me know. Thank you for any and all insight you might have!

Hello. I have a little problem in deciding if i should upgrade to next generation, or just stay where I am. Right now, I'm using MB with socket 1155, chipset Z68 so i can overclock (I have proper cooling for it too) Problem is that recently I had to sell my CPU due to little money trouble, but right now i have money to upgrade my pc again. My two choices between which I want to choose are: - Staying on this generation for now and buy i5-2500k, maybe i7-2600k if I'll find any for good price - Upgrade to 1151 and buy Pentium g4560 due to no money to buy even i3, but upgrade to i5 on summer brake when I'll be able to work If you have better idea, just throw it in reply On PC I'm mostly playing games, sometimes I'm streaming cs:go or recording some films (so rendering it too) Rest of my PC Sapphire R9 280X 8GB RAM SilentiumPC Vero L1 600W Rest is not important in this case imo

I have been reseacrhing for a long time and it seems i am still not decided, have these options, since i live on an island i have a very limited variety to choose from. (all can be found: http://www.scanmalta.com/scanshop/gaming/laptops.html) I am not buying any laptops online since i'd have to deal with a lot of shipping cost and i will not be able to pay monthly. MSI GE72 7RE Apache Pro 17.3" €1,530.00 Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.8 GHz 16GB DDR4 2133MHz 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti Weaker 1050ti card but a little bit better cpu. MSI GE62VR Apache Pro 15.6" €1,611.00 Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.8 GHz 8GB DDR4 2400MHz 1TB HDD +128GB SSD 3GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Gtx 1060 but with 3gb vram. 8gb ram might not be so future proof. Any suggestions ?

Hey everyone, I've made some code to generate an array full of random numbers (between 2 points), to create a "Set" of data to be analyzed. This works fine - I've got my random set, but for it to be counted as a valid set, it has to have no duplicate numbers. Sure, I can make the RNG to a really high number and hope I don't get a duplicate, but that is beside the point. (In fact, I tried that and still got 3 repeated numbers...) How would I make my RNG generate a random set of numbers without duplicates? Here's the code for my RNG if this is of any help: int length = 9; Random r = new Random(); int yes; int[] setS = new int[9]; for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) { setS[i] = r.Next(1, 19); Console.WriteLine(setS[i]); } I've had a look at multiple sites, such as StackOverflow and I don't fully understand the methods people are showing on how to solve this problem. Thanks for any help given.

Heya, once again. So yesterday i started to dig into chipsets and sockets, trying to find a new motherboard for my first build. Now, i've seen some of the better options for an H110 chipset, but i kind of want to broaden my search, and don't know how. I've seen a couple of good B250's, but i just don't know where to start looking for additional support. The question is whether any of you know a rather cheap motherboard (that won't fail on me), which supports gen 7 i5's. Price over options here, the lower the better. The only thing that i would like to see is maybe one that has 2400hz RAM support. TBFH, i have no idea where to start looking, so any suggestions on where and how to search are welcome as well. (maybe even more so than suggestions on mobo's...) I'll be off into the wild uncharted lands of the united republic of Google to hunt for answers. Thanks for the help. Cheers!

1. Assuming that the hardware is brand new and proven 100% functional, does anybody know if Adobe Illustrator's files will degrade only from viewing them without making any edits, changes, resavings? Or for that matter, is there any adobe product that will cause file degradation only from viewing it without making any edits, changes, or resaving? My lead at work says that it will but I disagree with this. 2. Also, when copying a file (e.g. .pdf, .jpg, or .mp3), then making a copy of the copy, and then making yet another copy of the last copied file, and then repeating this process multiple times, would it ever cause the last copy to degrade? My lead also says yes, but I disagree. The way I explained this is that when we copy files, we're duplicating 0s and 1s, and as long as there is no hardware or software damage or issues, the last copy will always be the same as the original file.

I just wanna know guys. Why Intel named their 2010 micro-architecture 1st gen, while actually they have produced quite a lot of CPU micro-architectures before 2010? Shouldn't they name their first CPU micro-architecture ever the "1st gen"? I'm guessing there is a major difference between the micro-architectures before and after they called it "generations". Thanks guys!

So I built my PC back in 2014 and am in the process of upgrading the CPU.Things have definitely changed it seems. I'm finding out that in order to upgrade my CPU, I have to upgrade my Motherboard, RAM, and AIO Cooler. Which is pretty heavy. Now I'm not sure if this is just because I'm a little more behind and new things came when they did or if this is normal for every generation of products. So my question is this, nowadays if I want to buy a new CPU and I'm upgrading from say the current generation now (I'm not but just for example), do I need to buy a new MB, RAM, and AIO Cooler every time? Like for example, if I were to wait and get the 9700k as my next CPU, I would need a z390 MB, I believe. Could I still use DDR4-2444 (I think) ram like in the current Z370 MB's? Could I still use a H115i v2 Cooler? What all would I need to buy new in order to have a compatible build? Could I just buy the cooler and RAM now and still be able to buy the next CPU and MB? My Build for reference: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/jXWrcY

So looks like AMD is getting ready to launch AMD Pro. Just uploaded this new video quoting up to 17% more performance vs competitors. What do you guys think? I think AMD's new Zen architecture (which this is not) will be awesome. EDIT: Been told its not Zen. Didn't realise AMD was releasing something completely separate to Zen as well. My bad. EDIT2: Please don't turn my post into a shit storm or i'll request the thread to be locked.

So I just had a thought while looking at new info about the rumoured GTX 1060: how much will it cost and what performance will it deliver for being the "X60" or mid-range NVIDIA card? I then went back to when I was hunting for a card to put in my rig and the 700 series showed up with "greatly improved performance over previous gen", which was true of the jump from GTX 660 to GTX 760 (I picked the 760). Fast forward a few years and the 600 and 700 series are now what the tech world denotes as "ancient". But just how ancient are they? Most are still good for gaming of course, they've just fallen out of fashion over time. Concretely, I would like to suggest a video summarising the gains that have been made to mid-to-high-end video card ecosystem over the past few generations (maybe even including the 400 and 500 series, or even beginning with the 8800GT ), similarly to "NVIDIA GTX 560 Ti vs 8800 GTX Crysis Image Quality & Benchmark Linus Tech Tips". I initially had the idea of comparing the last king of the "X90" range, the GTX 690, with a newer, single-GPU card such as the GTX 1070, with lower price and TDP, but (and correct me if I'm wrong) a higher performance level than the dual-GPU GTX 690. However, after writing this post, I felt like the generation-on-generation performance delta was maybe more relevant to the majority of the audience (the GTX 690 wasn't really aimed at mainstream gaming in the first place). Please tell me your thoughts on the matter, or post your current card, and if you feel the need to upgrade. Best, JM

I'm being sold 2 generations of the Acer Aspire V3, one has an i5 fifth generation CPU and the other one a 6th gen Core i5. Is there a big difference to justify the higher price? RAM is the same (6 GB) and both have integrated graphics. Meant for Solidworks/Matlab/Office and occasional light gaming in low settings.

Hello i will keep it simple, does anyone know when Intel new CPU generations will be there with the new architecture? Because i experienced personal problem with my 5820k order and mobo..... and have to delay 2/3weeks. Maybe they put something better over 5820k for familiar price......

Hey guys! Recently I won a Gigabyte GA-Z170X G1 Gaming Motherboard in a competition hosted by Killer Networking. I'm currently using a MSI Z97-G45 GAMING Motherboard paired with an i7-4790K and 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM. I was thinking about selling my MSI motherboard, i7 processor and Crucial RAM and buying an i7-6700K paired with 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM. Would you guys recommend this? Also, keep in mind that I won a motherboard worth ~$500 USD. I'm curious to find out your opinion!

Hello, and thanks for reading this already! I'm planning out my build, which is probably going to contain an i7 due to Video Editing work, rendering, programming and some game development. Now, looking at reviews of the i7-4790K, a lot of people are complaining about heat. It could be that they are just using stock cooler, but I want to make sure there aren't better alternatives. So, my question is, are older generations as good in performance as the new ones? I know this may sound stupid, but it seems like Intel is focusing heavily on Low Power Consumption + Integrated Graphics. And if there's an older i7 which has better temps, just a little worse iGPU, then I'mma take that instead. So, for the TL;DR, what's the best generation to choose from when it comes to temperatures + performance? Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! I wanna know if Intel is releasing their new Broadwell CPUs for LGA 1150 before summer, i mean, the new i3 i5 and i7 CPUs for normal PCs. I'm planning to biuld a new pc and i want an i5 4690k, a Gigabyte z97 mobo, the EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 and a Corsair CX750M PSU. That costs around 1K dollars, another suggestion for that? Thank you for your help

Ok guys, to be quick here, I would like to overclock my CPU. Because I run a lot of hardware demanding games and programs. My specs are in my profile so u guys can go there and check it out. If some of u guys have nearly precisely the specs that I have a settings profile for me to just input in the mobo would be like a huuuugggeee time saver for me.

So, with the 700 series released, how do you guys think the 800 series with a new architecture will compare? Furthermore. With AMD delaying their 8000 series and 9000 series. How do you think they will be able to compete? Another "simple" topic. Fire away! :D

I just read a fantastic piece on WCCFTech "gasps" I know what a shocker ! but it was genuinely intriguing. It explains how we are truly on a verge of a new era of computing and how this new era is going to bring us back to the "golden age of silicone valley" when CPU performance would literally double every year. http://wccftech.com/article/exploring-amds-intels-architectural-philosophies-future-hold-part/

Hey, i have pretty good computer (My spec's: 2x 660ti in sli, 1000 watt PSU, 16 gig vengence pro series ram clocked at 1866 MHz, z77 gd65 and a i7 2600) as you see i couldn't hurt to get a new CPU and i wonder what i should do? Should i get a 3770k and overclock it or should i get a diffrent motherboard and a 4th generation haswell CPU? I also don't know if my PSU have enough watt to overclock and overvolt my cpu. I could really use some help.
