  1. Sooo like most people I ran into a bit of extra stimulus cash and decided to upgrade. Went from a crappy budget $55 Deepcool case to a $260 Fractal Define 7 case. Started off as this cramped mess with my old rx480 ... Did the transplant operation .... NURSE GIVE ME 50CC'S OF DATA STAT! (pardon the kitchen bench ) And about 24 hours later I ended up here. Not without drama though, the first AIO cooler I got was leaking! so had to take it back to the store and get it swapped I take my whole rig in cause it was easier at the time but they were really busy so the guy asked can I remove it, I'm like sure lol so he handed me a screw driver and took off the cooler in-store on their display bench. got home and put it all back together, also got some nice red/black power extension cables for the gpu as the ones from the power supply are really chunky and hard to manipulate. All in all I'm pretty happy about it. Next step is to get a small led matrix audio visualiser powered by an Arduino or some type of active screen and stick it on that panel. Edit I forgot to put in the extra back shot of all the hidden HDD & cabling goodness
  2. Budget (including currency): ~$500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Tomb Raider series, Destiny 2, Minecraft, DOOM Eternal, Borderlands 1, 2 & 3. Learning to code, web browsing, video playback. Nothing super demanding. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I want to upgrade my platform from Z77 to AM4 as well as swap out my case. *I plan to upgrade other components at a later time* My current Cooler Master HAF 932 is just too big. I'm using only two of the five 3.5" bays and only one of the six 5.25" bays, of which I don't plan on using any. Please take a look at the core components and if you have any suggestions on a different part or build altogether, I'm interested in hearing. Some things to keep in mind, I'd like to stick with air cooling and I'm looking for a case with decent airflow with a minimalist look. I originally was looking at the Corsair 275R and the Phanteks Eclipse P400A but have settled on the Fractal Design Meshify C. Thank you in advance to anyone with suggestions! 3. I have an EVGA CLC 280mm AIO and looking to get new fan as the shroud cut kind that are installed out of the box are not the best. I am looking for RGB chassis fans as well. Total number of fans needed is 5. Fans I'm currently looking at that I need advice on are the "Corsair LL 140mm" & " Fractal Design Prisma AL-140 PWM" Are then any others cheaper that are about the same in quality? All chassis fans have front panel speed control and AIO has software control. So I don't know if I need PWM fans for both or either. System specs are in signature if needed
  4. This is something that the Fractal fanboys will roast me for it, but I need to say this. So in my quest to find the balance between good temps and low noise in my Fractal Design R6 case, I realized that I never did one test to actually determine the correct settings. So last week I decided to set the case fans at 100% all the time to see just what difference that would make on the temps for the CPU, VRM and GPU. Because before that what I did was set the fans to run all the time at the lowest rpm that they would run at and through the bios set a fan curve so they can ramp up when temps get too high. I was trying to find the balance between noise and temps. That's why I even bought this case because I wanted silence. I even bought an a completely unnecessary overpowered power supply just to make sure I have silence so the fan won't turn on at idle. Anyway the fans that come with the case are the Dyncamics X2-GP14. So I decided to set the fans at 100% because I realized I never tested what would the best temps be if the fans of the case run at 100%. So I did and what I discovered blow me away pun intended. It made basically no difference at all. I saw a 2 degree difference, that's it. So I opened the panel and decided to put my hand behind the fan to see how much air they push. I felt nothing. They are completely pointless. The fans were running at 1000rpm and they might've been turned off and it would've been the same. It would've been better if I took them off and stuck my head in the front of the case and blow that would actually lower the temps. Not even blowing is required, just a breathing. Even the act of breathing would push more air than those fans. I know very well Fractal fans are going to attack me, I don't care so far I've had too many issues with my purchase and it pissed me off. I was a fan of this company, but not anymore. The more time I spent with my R6, the more I find things about it that are crap. I've spent 170$ with tax on it and regret every single dollar.
  5. Just for the heck of it, i decided to mod a cooling fan inside my hifi stereo set. I know it's not very advanced wiring but is this considered ok? I tried first to steal power from the psu's head unit 5v/standby socket but couldn't get the the fan to spin without help, so i found a plastic cased 10 volt dc converter which came from old logitech speakers and decided to wire it straight to the ac input wire as a separate device. Would there be any downsides to this configuration, everything seems to work fine, fan spinning at 10 volts and venting out hot air from the case.
  6. Hello everyone, not exactly sure if this is the correct section to post my question, but maybe it is due to my question. If the section is wrong, then I ask a moderator to move it to its right place. I have an i7 8700 cooled with an Arctic Freezer 34 Duo, Z370 motherboard (why a Z motherboard if I have a locked processor? Because the Z motherboard was cheaper and I wanted it) anyway, a Gtx 960 which will be replaced next year and a Samsung 970 evo plus nvme ssd. All in the Fractal Design R6 with the stock fans. My question is can I set the case fans to stop entirely when the system is either in idle or light work loads like browsing the internet, installing a game, etc. ? Basically my question is if my system does nothing demanding then do the case fans need to be running? Or can I just set them to turn on when the CPU is at x temperature? Like let's say the CPU temps hit 60C then the case fans start to spin at 50% as an example. Is that safe for the all hardware? Or the safe bet is have them running consistently but at a low rpm and link them to the CPU or GPU and as soon as the temps go up then have the case fans increase in rpm. Also to what should I link them to? To the CPU or GPU temps? I do play games.
  7. So This is the first build iv done in 10 years, and could use some advise about case pressure and optimizing my system. RED - 120mm Corsair LL120 fans White - 120mm Fractal fans Brown - 140mm Noctua Fans Im wondering if this would be a good way to orient the fans, specifically the Corsairs at the top.
  8. Hi everyone, I just finished my first PC build and it's awesome! Got it to work on first boot. There is only one question which boggles my mind a bit, which is this: How can I get the three stock case fans that come with the Fractal Define R6 to adjust their speed according to load? My motherboard is the ASUS Z370-E. See two attached images for better understanding: Currently I have my two 4-pin CPU fans connected directly to the motherboard on headers CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT. They work just fine, adjusting their speed via PWM as CPU temperature increases. The three stock Fractal case fans which are all 3-pin are connected to the three 4-pin headers of the Define R6 fan hub which is in turn connected via 4-pin to the CHA_FAN1 header on the motherboard. I tried connecting the case fans to the 3-pin connectors on the hub first, but in that case the RPM didn't get reported at all, it showed as 0 even though the fans were spinning at 100%. Now RPM shows around 930 and it seems to be fixed no matter the load, even if I set CHA_FAN1 to DC manually in the BIOS. Does anyone know what I can do here so the 3-pin fans can at least be controlled via DC? Or is 930 RPM at idle acceptable for case fans? My main concern here is durability and longevity, noise is acceptable for me, it's not too loud. Thanks for your help!
  9. The Fractal Design Define S seems to have the most acceptable space for a good case upgrade so with that and the pc spec information down below, what's the best place to starting buying high quality reliable water cooling components? 10. Please vote above. I’m looking for a case that is aesthetically pleasing but still has good functionality for my build. Here are the specs of the system I will put in it: i7 8700k NZXT Kraken X62 ASUS ROG Strix z370-e atx ASUS STRIX 1080ti OC edition G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB EVGA B1 750 watt NZXT Hue+ Samsung 850 evo 1tb ssd HERE ARE THE CASES:

So I wanna put the thermaltake fans:https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Wqx9TW/thermaltake-riing-plus-14-rgb-tt-premium-edition-5-fan-pack-632-cfm-140mm-fans-cl-f057-pl14sw-a On the this aio cooler:https://pcpartpicker.com/product/NMtWGX/fractal-design-celsius-s36-876-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-fd-wcu-celsius-s36-bk
  12. NZXT S340 Elite NZXT H400i ----------------------- What are really the BIG differences between these two cases (if there are any at all)? Fractal Design Meshify C Corsair 460X RGB Aesthetically they are all beautiful to me, so no problem there. The thing is I need a feedback from someone who has any one of these cases as a PROS and CONS list and not just a Youtube reviewer. I'm building a new PC (slowly but surely) and at the moment I have a huge case with too much space in it and it feels waste. So I decided to get a smaller one with tempered glass and these apparently are the best ones on the market right now? The pc will be air cooled with maybe a change down the line for the CPU, turning it into water cooled. Any help will be appriciated!
  13. So I have a 7700K, and know how much hotter it runs than the 6600K, but I didn't think that it'd be consistently reaching 80 degrees no matter how demanding the game is. All the fans in my case are PWM except for bottom one, which is to block the air upwards so the intake has straighter path to the exhaust. I should also note that my 1080 Ti has never reached temps above 65 degrees. I currently have the Cryorig H5 Universal, paired with Startech Metal Oxide paste. If a different paste would reduce the temps, let me know. Here's a picture of my current setup. I'm using a Fractal Design R5 (windowless)
  14. Have a Cryorig H5 Universal, but am getting 80 degrees with my 7700K in even the lowest ends of games, with every fan in my computer on full blast. Because of this, I'm thinking of getting a radiator instead. Here's the interior of my computer: I removed the front bays because I initially planned on getting a radiator, but then figured that air cooling would be enough. Fan at bottom blows upwards, grill fans are intake, rear fan is exhaust. My case is a Fractal Design R5 (no window). Let me know where I should put the radiator, which radiator you think I should get (and which fans, if I should get any for it), and anything else you might suggest for me. Thanks. <3
  15. The nzxt does display my ssd while the define s does not. I do like the fact that everything is also put in the back away from sight on the define s. Buuuut the define s has room and expansion for radiators. Does the nzxt have the same ability?
  16. Hi, this is my first build ever, but as I'm still learning about components and all that, I'm going to be having this computer built for me. What I wanted to know is what fans should I get and any extension cables I'd be needing; updating the PC part picker list would be great. I want to try and keep things under $100 CAD. One important thing to know is that my computer, during summer, will be running in a room that goes up to 85F/29.4C and my PC will be in a fairly cramped space due to lack of room on desk. I should also note that the back of the case will unfortunately be backed against the rear wall of my desk (about 7" away), right where my power bar is. I know that there's air intake, but I don't know if it would be better to blow the hot air out. If you wanted to know what I plan to be doing with the computer: Potentially overclocking (safe amount) both the GPU and the CPU; this computer is solely for gaming. What I also wanted to know is what I should exactly tell the builder for how I should set everything up, and a quick diagram drawn in paint; think of it as kind of a script. the reason why I say exactly is because I have nonverbal learning disability, which is basically minor autism without the social awkwardness. So since I have NLD, it makes it very difficult for me to explain things verbally without rambling on, over complicating things, and just missing the point entirely. Now that I think about it, if I were to just be given a list of things to tell him instead of a script, that'd be great, too. Sorry for needing so much detailed information; I've just never done it before. Watching videos on how to do things is pretty hard for me since things are normally explained partially verbally, with some demonstrations, which is something I have trouble retaining. My current parts that I have: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/QTQBYr Picture is of interior for the paint diagram.
  17. Hey guys so I’m planning to buy a new computer, I have around 1500 Swiss francs (prices from digitec.ch). These are the parts I choose, but i’m not sure of the value and compatibility Ryzen 2700X Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming GTX 1060 (Gigabyte Windforce) 970 Evo 250Go Seagate BarraCuda 2 To Corsair H110i or H100 v2 Trident Z RGB 3200 MHz Meshify C Black Seasonic M12II-620 Evo First I chosed Ryzen because I’ll do a lot of photography, video editing (After Effects) and some gaming, but Zen 2 is coming soon, is the wait worth it ? I’m also planning to overclock both my CPU and GPU. As for the cooler I don’t really know, can the H110i fit in the Meshify C, or is the H100 v2 a better option? I want the best thermal performance without having to delide my CPU (This is my first build). For the RAM I heart that Trident Z is more optimised for Ryzen and I really want the best performances. This build comes around 1500.- (without windows and peripherals), is it good tho? I don’t have a lot of experience especially in cooling and airflow. The Meshify C is a small case so I was wondering if Corsair AIO will fit. If you find better option around 1500.- for what I do, I’ll take all suggestions. Thanks a lot!
  18. Hello, I thought I'd log my build as it has been such a painstakingly difficult process! It isn't completed yet, I still need to throw in a 1080tI and complete two lines of tubing but I can finally see the end... and it will be so rewarding when I get there! Anyway. I used to have a MATX Bitfenix Aegis case in which I had an I5-4690K paired with a 1070 at first and then a 1080Ti. The PC had a pretty neat dual radiator cooling system paired with a whole in 1 pump. It was a flexible tubing build with constant white lighting from a total of 9 Coolermaster 120mm and 140mm fans. Cooling was exceptional and it was a positive pressure build so dust was never an issue despite being in one heck of a dusty city (Melbourne). I felt the urge to upgrade the CPU after 5 years of trustworthy performance and sold the whole build. I owned a Razer blade 2016 for a while and the performance loss from the external GPU was just depressing so after about a year of ownership (much of it concurrent with that of my desktop), I sold it to another adventurous soul. So. I decided to build a more compact watercooled desktop that would pack a punch and look slick. I started by looking at a few cases and narrowed it down to two - The Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Mini ITX and the Fractal Design Define Nano S. I wanted a small build with great watercooling options. The Fractal case won out because it made no sense to me that the Phanteks case enabled top mounting a 280mm rad without efficient airflow (seriously!). I still had my 1080Ti (FE) so I proceeded with the selection of the other components: I7 7700K ASUS ROG Strix 270i G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3200C16D-16GTZR 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 1TB SSD Thermaltake Riing Plus 12 RGB Premium Edition Fan 3pk Phanteks F140MP Premium PWM 140mm Radiator Fan Black/White EK CoolStream SE 240 Slim Dual Radiator EK CoolStream CE 280 Dual Radiator EK RES X3 110 Reservoir EK-XTOP Revo D5 PWM Pump Plexi EK FB ASUS Z270I Strix RGB Monoblock Nickel EK Full Cover EK-FC1080 GTX Ti Backplate - Black & EK Full Cover VGA Block EK-FC1080 GTX Ti - Nickel Upon receiving all this great kit, excited as I was, and having removed/assembled GPU waterblocks tens of times before, I proceeded to installing the waterblock on the 1080 Ti and 4 resistors later, I was done... Not kidding. In one foul swoop I destroyed my beautiful GPU. I didn't cry or get angry (surprisingly). I stood up, grabbed my keys and went for a long stroll. Over the next few days, I tried myself at welding, baking GPUs etc. On the bright side, between experiments I assembled the rig - and it was looking great. I had purchased 10mm hard tubing by Alphacool which is UV reactive and received OCcool fittings from Germany, including two 90 degree and two 45 degree fittings. I then tried myself at bending tubing. Overcooked the first two which bubbled up like a cane toad's skin and then undercooked the next few which just didn't look right. A few meters of tubing later (literally) I had one or two good(ish) bends. I assembled the lot, leak test - it leaked... Redid a bend, leak test - it held up. Excited, I connected the power to the CPU, GPU and mobo, powered up the beast and POOF! A puff of smoke, a flash and a dead GPU (confirmed dead at this point I guess...). At that point in time I made two decisions: 1. Bends, although I was convinced they had merit my looking at various videos, I would avoid, using 90 degree fittings instead. 2. I wouldn't bother building my righ absent a GPU. So, time passed (like a month or more) and time is an amateur modder's worst enemy. I decided I would upgrade the potential of my build from great to epic, and so I ordered UV LEDs and UV die (clear) for my build. And you know what? It looks super cool! Now a few details I skipped: The motherboard supports ASUS Aura (RBG lighting) but has only one set of RGB connectors The motherboard has no USB2.0 connector (3.0 only) The Thermaltake fan hub (to control the lights & speed) requires a 2.0 mobo connector The Phanteks fan connectors are different to Thermaltake's and are therefore not compatible with the fan "hub" The solutions were simple: USB 3.0 to USB2.0 Mobo adapter Corsair Commander controller fan hub allowing redirection of the USB2.0 signal to the Termaltake fan hub. Therefore we have: Mobo 3.0 connector > 3.0 to 2.0 adapter > Corsair Commander > Thermaltake hub With the two 140mm Phantek fans connected to the Corsair Commander and the three 120mm RGB fans connected to the Thermaltake hub. Now I am still not sure whether or not I'll be able to control the fan speed or lighting due to the use of an adapter - I am hoping I can but yet TBD. I could have opted for two 140mm Thermaltake RGB fans but I really like the muted appearance of the Phanteks combined with their "amazing" performance (according to other threads). So the status quo is: The 280mm and 240mm radiators fit in the case - it's snug, but it works. I have the 280mm rad at the front with two 140mm fans in pull configuration inside the case and the 240mm rad at the top, as close as possible to the window to make room for the RAM sticks, supported by two 120mm fans in push config. I also have a 120mm fan at the rear of the case pushing hot air out of the case - hesitant to rotate it so it pulls cool air in as I would need a filter and at this point in time cannot be bothered. I have hard line tubing linking the CPU to the 240mm top rad, the top rad dripping into the reservoir, the reservoir down into the pump, pump into the 280mm front rad. Once I get the GPU I will route the front rad to the GPU and then the GPU to the CPU and we can call it a build. The tubing from the res to the pump is vertical and would go along the contour of the GPU. I think despite being tight that it will fit. If it doesn't, I can use the two little 1/4 extenders that came with the res to push the loop closer to the window and clear the GPU - nice to have a plan for once... I prefer the look without bends - the black corner fittings blend well with the build. The positioning of the UV strips was difficult - initially I hat 80cm of strips going around the window and lighting it all very nicely. But like everything, good things never last and upon installing the two top fans, I realised I no longer had enough clearance. Now I have two separate strips, one hidden behind the top rad and facing down and the second 60cm strip along the bottom and front edges of the window. Happy for now but with two little worries: Will I be able to control fan speed and lighting through the USB3.0 to USB2.0 adapter? I have three different RGB lighting zones: The motherboard with the CPU cooler and the RAM The two RGB lighting strips The three 120mm fans (top x 2 and rear x 1) Ideally I would like points 1 and 2 above to be linked and 3 to only run when temps exceed X (party mode!). To do that, I need to configure the RGB cabling differently (likely mobo RGB header to split connector which goes to the 2 strips and connecting the CPU RGB connector to the end of one of the 2 strips). Next update will be when I get the GPU and finalise the build - I hope this is helpful to others looking at building a watercooled system in the Fractal Design Define Nano S. Thanks for reading! Mike
  19. Has anyone personally tried to cut a window into the side panel of a Fractal R4 Define? I know people have done it online, but I'm looking to see if anyone has any personal experience or advice they could give me. I was thinking of cutting a large square-window from the side panel and using either a thin glass sheet or acrylic plastic to make the effect of a window. I really like the R4 Define look, but I'm starting to wish I had a window. Don't want to just get rid of the R4 if I can mod it a bit. Thanks!
  20. I have a radiator where the inner holes along its edge for fan mounting are 16mm apart. I cannot for the life of me find a gasket with that spacing, the closest I can find is a rubber gasket with holes 15mm apart. Could someone with experience setting up gaskets on radiators tell me if the difference is negligible here? AIO radiator: (Asetek, 360mm, in the Fractal Design Celsius S36) Was looking at the following: http://www.xs-pc.com/radiator-accessories/360mm-radiator-gasket
  21. Hi All I need help I got a I need a new graphics card I have a basic NVidia GeForce 210. I know don't start laughing just yet!!!! I want to get into gaming but am limited for space. I have a Fractal Design Node 605 Case with a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 and AMD FX8350 Black Edition 8 Core Processor and 32 Gb of Corsair Memory Samsung evo 850 SSD. So the rest of the system isn't too bad. I need a card with the power connector on the back no the top as I can’t get the lid on the Media case. Can you suggest some good ones from team red or green? Thanks Computerice
  22. Hey guys, While planning out this PC I couldn't find much info about building such a high performance PC in this tiny case so I thought I would write something up. If you are planning a similar build and have any questions I would love to answer them! Also, if you would like any benchmark numbers let me know and I'll run them when I get a chance! Here is the PC part picker link with more info! http://pcpartpicker.com/b/KnccCJ
  23. ***read the title*** So, i wanna build myself a juicy htpc sized beast pc... planing on using a 6850k in a node 202... gpu is gtx 1080, ssd 1tb etc... i was wondering if you could tell me a good fan for this cpu and this case in particular. For all i care, you can make me a pc on www.pcpartpicker.com if ya have any ideas. Aimimg for a small pc gr8 4 travelling and gr8 for gaming m8. Price? Around 2500 USD. I have a mousd kb and a monitot already. Tnx in advance Me, Myself & I
  24. Heya, folks. Currently "upgrading" from my Corsair 750D to something new. I say "upgrade", because i've realized that carrying my 750D to lans is just too much. I once had 2 GPUs, but i moved to a single, more powerful one, and i don't need the space. Anyhow, TL;DR: I need a new, small case. - It needs to be an ATX case - It needs to be able to hold the width of the Asus 980Ti (6'') - It needs to be able to hold a dual rad in the top So far i've been looking at the Corsair 450D and Fractal R5. Any suggestions, tips and links are super appreciated!
  25. Will having 6 case fans ; 3 intake 3 exhaust, be any better than just having 4 case fans 2 intake 2 exhaust. People have been saying "why so many fans?" and it got me thinking. I am leaning on 4 fans assuming the difference is minimal or none at all. Here is the build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DQBLYJ
