Hi there, I recently made the very stupid mistake of flashing the wrong bios on my 3070 (gigabyte 3070 Gaming OC rev 1.0, accidentally flashed the 3070TI bios). ever since the card was essentially dead. it is not identified by the BIOS and does not show any signs of life (fans at 100% all the time). I purchased the following device in a last dich attempt to save my card: USB Programmer Module Flash BIOS Clip CH341A 5V-3.3V Drive IC Electronic Kit | eBay i made several attempts to flash the new bios on the chip with no success so far. does anyone have experience using such a device and came across issues or possible was able to resolve a bad flash? Thanks a lot!

Linus answers a merch message at 1:08:00 about SSDs but then Linus, Luke and Dan take a brief detour to talk about USB flash drives around 1:10:00. This came up recently on Ars Technica as well, from a report published by a German Data Recovery company, CBL. I wanted to add my two cents - what you buy on amazon is usually deceptive. The actual controller is often Phison. And who knows where they got the flash itself - used flash, rejected flash, etc. The internet usually has info. One other thing to watch out for: it can be a good USB drive, today. Then the manufacturer switches the internals without changing the product number. Silent downgrade. Tips - research the drive to avoid obviously bad ones. Grab a copy of ChipEasy or ChipGenius, it will show what's inside the drive. Maybe return drives as defective if you get one with surprises. Install an antivirus and try some of these lists for example: * https://usbdev.ru/f/index.php?topic=1791.0 * https://www.usbdev.ru/my-device/ Anyone else have tips on good USB drives?

Hello! Lately I have been having problems with my 2nd display monitor to which I believe is not being detected by the GPU. I have then tried ti Flash the Bios to which I have followed a Youtube video online, all procedures seems to be relatively simple but then I had an obstacle. My Gpu is a Sapphire Pulse 4gb RX570, it shows in the gpu-z, and everywhere else, including the physical stickers on the graphics card. When I was going to flash it with the latest available files however, it stated the P/N was not compatible, I tried to download all the 5 models available for the 4gb SAPPHIRE RX 570 Cards and tried each of them but to no avail. I thinked for a second and then searched for the existing P/N and found that my GPU has the file for an RX 470 NITRO OC by Sapphire. I am very confused and need help, but then it was 3 am and I am dumb so my monke brain went with the latest 470 OC driver file and proceeded to flash my GPU with that, it let me flash the GPU however after restarting, I was able to boot into windows before green screening. I hope I am not fucked yet. I am currently using the onboard graphics to ask for help. Thank you very much. I really appreciate the input/help as I have really no means of buying a new/used graphics card. This Graphics card was also just a second-hand buy and I've used it for like 3 months. Pls send your Wisdom and Knowledge. https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/190672/sapphire-rx470-4096-161012 this is the P/N that was installed in my GPU and this is the GPU that I have https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/191558/sapphire-rx570-4096-170306

Summary Western Digital has announced plans to split the company in two by spinning off their flash division into a separate company and keep the hard drive disk (HDD) division. This is recent in news after talks between Western Digital and Japanese memory maker Kioxia to merge have scrapped plans. This is expected to occur over the second half of 2024. This was a unanimous decision by the board of directors. Quotes My thoughts This is pretty interesting to see since Western Digital bought SanDisk back in 2016 and are now separating the two divisions once again. I hope there is no change in quality or where the future lays for Western Digital in a tight market for hard drives between Seagate and Toshiba being big players here. Motherboard: ASRock B550M Steel Legend BIOS: (unknown) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5700X RAM: 2x8GB Ballistix 3600MHz Storage: WD Blue 500GB(test only) PSU: Corsair CX500 PROBLEM: The PC won't turn on. How to troubleshoot? After connecting all the wires and turning on the power supply, a blue light flashes on the right of the M.2 heat shield. When I try to press the button connected to the panel, nothing happens. When I use a screwdriver, nothing happens either. How can I troubleshoot this? All the components seem to work on another PC. Could it be a BIOS issue? After reading the BIOS details on the manufacturer's site, I realized that the motherboard wasn't compatible with the 5000 series. But can BIOS compatibility cause a boot error like this? (PS: These were parts I had around, so compatibility doesn't matter to me unless it's the issue.)

Heya all, Whilst back flashing my BIOS in Lenovo to an older version, my power died... Wondered if someone can help me I have a BIOS programmer and NEO and AS programmers on my machine. I need to reflash the memory on my 2x BIOS chips. they are Winbond 25064FV S10| 1427 models. However, when i try flashing them. When i connect the board power the connection to the chips doesn't work but they do with it off, via the USB which is weird, anyway I tried flashing the below BIOS FBKTE0A but within the software, there are 2 files below, the first chip (left) has a size of 8000kb, but the right chip has a size of 4000kb, I have also tried to add my NVME module into it via UEFItool and added it inafter the USBvfs module but I am not sure if i am extracting the Body correctly or if i need the entire ROM. (https://www.tachytelic.net/wp-content/optiplex/NvmExpressDxe_Small.ffs) reference: https://www.tachytelic.net/2022/07/lenovo-thinkcentre-m92-nvme I really need a hand to understand what I am doing wrong. & how to fix it. How do I chop up these files the older CAP bios file had no additional bin, but the latest version is a ROM and BIN. I am lost. "C:\\SWTOOLS\\FLASH\\FBJYE0USA\\FBCT32A.bin" 128kb "C:\\SWTOOLS\\FLASH\\FBJYE0USA\\IMAGEFB.ROM" 6656kb Here a link to the machine, via it ServiceTAG its board is Lenvovo "is8xm" Rev01 (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/thinkcentre-m-series-desktops/thinkcentre-m93p/10a6/10a6s0ut02/downloads/driver-list/component?name=BIOS%2FUEFI) I also find an older version of the BIOS too which is a CAP files. I have an Asus laptop with a 1050 and I'va noticed that on other people's laptops the gpu runs at a slightly higher clock (~65Mhz) although mine stays cooler. My brother's Dell with the same specs for example scores higher in benchmarks and also behaves better in COD Warzone. I figure it has to do with the vbios and was wondering if I can extract the one on his laptop and flash it on mine since I don't seem to find vbioses for 4gb 1050s. How can I do that? And how do I restore my version if I don't like the new one?

I've bought a used RX 570, specifically Asus RX 570 4g - https://rog.asus.com/us/graphics-cards/graphics-cards/rog-strix/rog-strix-rx570-4g-gaming-model/ The card initially does not work, but once ATI Flash is used its working fine in Windows. Turned on GPU-Z to check the bios, etc. and it turns out it has a BIOS of a Expedition RX 570 O4G flashed Clicking lookup, I get sent to this page: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/asus-expedition-rx-570-oc.b4507 Which clearly isn't the card that I have installed at the moment. I went to find a BIOS for it, with no verified BIOSes, I went to the unverified ones to find a suitable one. I've tried multiple ones, can't remember which ones exactly but I think its these: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/195505/195505 https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/202194/202194 https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/199919/199919 They all seem to match the GPU information, although none of them seem to want to flash, I get a "SubsystemIDs missmatch" error. I'm not really experienced in flashing GPUs, this is my 2nd time doing it so any help or explanation of the error is appreciated. Does anyone have this GPU and can export the original BIOS, or maybe has a link to download the original? Or is there any way to bypass this error without too much tinkering around... Thanks in advance!

It all started when I was flashing my x79 Sabertooth bios with a user modified one that has nvme boot support. After flashing all was going well, I reconfigured all the settings in the bios (overclocks, boot orders, etc.), ran some stress tests without problems. Then I went into the bios again, disabled onboard audio (it doesn't work, i use a PCI soundcard, but I was hoping maybe the bios update will bring it back to life, it didn't), and I enabled some kind of usb 3.0 charge support. These were the last and only settings that I have changed, and after saving and rebooting, there was no video output at all. I have tried different slots, different gpus, resetting cmos, re-flashing the old and official bioses, nothing worked. The system seems to be working fine, only no video output. Judging by the onboard LED and shut off time after pressing the power button, the pc boots into windows, i can configure bios settings (obviously without seeing anything), I even managed to load optimized defaults, that didn't work. I'm thankful for any help I can get

I was wondering if it would be possible to build a REAL fast 64gb usb 3.1 flash drive with 4 of theses 16gb hbm2 modules wich run at 4 gb/s each for a total of 16gb/s wich would be totally unneccesary. I couldnt find any documentation for any sort of hbm2 controller to usb aswell as no way to buy single hbm2 modules from samsung or anywhere else. If anyone finds out either, please hmu.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get a BIOS update for my GPU (MSI R9 270 Gaming 2G) with support for UEFI. I found the BIOS from TechPowerUp but when I try to flash it I get an error saying "P/N mismatch". It has xxx-xxx instead of full P/N number and I can't find one with the correct P/N. Can anyone make it so it has the correct P/N? Or find it? I tried to edit it using an editor for BIOS but the program doesn't open any .rom file I put into it and thinks it's not an AMD/ATI BIOS. Thanks for all the help. I'll attach the BIOS file as well. MSI.R9270.2048.131211 (1).rom

Good evening from the UK, I'm writing to ask what upgrades could be made to my 3060Ti ("Palit GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Dual 8GB"). Whilst it runs a little toasty, the fan curves out of the box are shocking, so there is headroom for potential overclocking. However, I'm led to believe that the 3060Ti is largely the same as a 3070, and after recalling watching an older LTT video whereby Linus & team flashed an upgraded model of card onto a lesser model of card to make it run as if it were the upgraded model, I believe there could be significant performance gains? I understand that this card has only been around less than 6 months, but I never doubt the ingenuity of one who specialises in IT! So if you guys could at least point me in the direction of the video I'm thinking of, I'd be really greatful, but if you happen to know how to flash some swanky new software, then all the more reason to! Thank you for your time, Regards, Dylan Thank you all for your prompt responses!

When I turn on my computer it flashes for i would say a quarter of a second then comes on normally. a little sound and the rgb comes on for that long. Does anyone else experience this? Is this just the pc turning on? It happens with every computer I have ever owned but I wanted to know if I was the only one.

Can I flash the bios update without needing a CPU on the ASUS Tuf Gaming X570 ‘PRO’? I know you can’t on the other Tuf boards but someone online said you could on the PRO without a CPU. Just need to know if this is true or not. The only CPU I’ll have is the Ryzen 7 5800x.
-
Does anyone here know how i should update this motherboard? I'm going to run a Ryzen 7 5800x on it, and from what i can gather, i have to update to 7C84v14 for that CPU to be compatible I'm getting my new motherboard tomorrow and i've been wondering. Does anyone here know in what order i have to flash the bios? Let's say the board i receive have 7C84v11 pre installed. Do i then have to flash it through 7C84v12 and then 7C84v13. Or can i directly download the version i have to use and install it straight away? I'm coming from an Intel build, so i have no AM4 Cpu laying around. So i have to flash it through the port on the back with only PSU connected. I've read that the Flash bios button on the IO can be kind of funky. So i'd rather avoid bricking my board immediately.
-
Hello, could anyone dump their current bios from the MSI Krait Gaming Z170A motherboard to a .bin file? I'm currently trying to recover this board as a bricked motherboard. Much appreciated if you could do so.

Hi, I'm finally changing out my CPU and motherboard after about 5 years on x99. I've bought a new Ryzen 5800x and x570 I Aorus pro wifi but am having some problems updating the bios to support the cpu using the q flash plus system. These are the steps I'm following: Downloading the latest bios files and extracting them onto a clean fat32 usb drive Renaming the .31o file as "GIGABYTE.bin" Plugging the usb drive into the white usb for bios slot on the mobo Plugging both 24 pin mobo and 8pin CPU connectors in from the power supply Switching the power supply on and pressing the q flash plus button From what I understand this should turn the motherboard and psu fans and lights on aswell as start flashing the q flash light. None of this is happening for me but the activity light on the memory stick is flashing and has been for the last hour which makes me think that it's at least getting power and trying to read the stick. If anyone has any suggestions or experience with this board and/or q flash plus I'd be very grateful for any insight on how I can get this to work.

https://www.engadget.com/microsoft-edge-end-of-flash-support-roadmap-200849276.html Has anyone heard anything about this? I'll be pretty glad when Flash is finally gone from the Control Panel in Windows 8.1, and no longer a component in Windows.

Every time I try and post an emoji, literally my entire internet connection grinds to a halt. It pretty much doesn't matter what website it is, but its mainly Linus and YouTube doing it. What gives here? Does this happen to anyone else? Does this have to do with flash? HTML? Is something out of date? Its not a big problem of course, I'm just curious. Maybe I can prevent bigger issues from occurring down the road.

Summary Pure Storage, a supplier of all-flash storage devices, expects capacity of its proprietary direct flash module (DFM) solid-state drives to increase by six times in a few years, leading to 300TB capacities. The company expects advancements of 3D NAND areal density driven by increased number of layers and other factors to enable such a dramatic capacity increase. Pure CTO Alex McMullan showed a chart to Blocks & Files that reveals Pure’s plans and Pure Storage claims that it'll have these mammoth SSDs available by 2026. Quotes My thoughts While this technology is used for enterprise solutions, consumers would eventually see its benefits at some point. As 3D NAND flash manufacturers will ultimately switch from the current 200-layer chips to the 400 or 500-layer chips, and this will drive storage density up. Presently, consumer SSDs offer up to 15TB solutions, while HDDs offer up to 22TB. Meaning, if these projections are correct, extra high capacities will at some point drive down prices of SSD per TB, while at the same time increasing the average capacity of an SSD. While an assumption, if SSD prices come down over the course of 5 years, this should also drive down HDD prices as well. Something to keep in mind, as Blocks & Files points out, is that 5 years brings us all the way to 2028, 2 years after McMullan’s purported 300TB DFMs by 2026 goal. Translation, 3D NAND layer increases will not get Pure Storage to 300TB by 2026 on their own; Pure Storage can't rely solely on increased number of active layers, but will need to improve upon other things too. Nonetheless, while Pure Storage's plans seem enthusiastic, it is still very exciting nonetheless; despite this being a primarily enterprise focused endeavor. I believe the benefits enterprise receives, eventually make their way to consumers at some point or another. I have had this Corsair Voyager 128gb flash drive for a couple of years now. Very minimal use, I used it as a backup of a backup for important files. Recently, it stopped registering in any machine I plug it into. The LED will flash like the drive is being read for a couple of seconds, then go into a slow pulsing mode as if the drive is in sleep mode. About 2/50 times I plug it in and out of a machine it will actually read. When this happens, I can view the file directory and see all my data. But when I try to open one or two files the drive will crash and go into the sleep mode. What are my options in terms of recovering this data? Thanks!
