First I want to clarify that the windows and programs are on a ssd (disk C). Photos and videos on the hard disk (disk D) I have a problem with the windows file explorer because it gets like this when I use it for about 2 - 3 hours To "fix" I have to restart it by closing from the task manager and then opening it from there. But when I restart it it stops showing the thumbnails of photos and videos and I even have the preview panel disabled. (2nd screenshot) This happens in the ssd and hdd, so maybe it is a problem with windows or I dont know because I have it updated Please i need your help guys it's really annoying

explorer crash Windows 10 launches with explorer.exe crashing
DaveN posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Alright, I've got myself a new SSD a few months ago, a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB to be precise and installed Windows 10 on it. The installation went flawlessly and I set all my stuff up again, which took quite a while since I use my PC for all sorts of things. A few weeks ago my Windows started taking quite long to load my profile and once I get in, explorer.exe is frozen. No icons in my taskbar and I can't interact with anything. I usually fix it by spam clicking the taskbar, and after about 5 seconds everything will be reloaded and working fine. Now this isn't much of an issue, but I would still like to get rid of it. This also occurs in safe mode, there's no difference. I've ran the following commands with no avail: chkdsk /f /r sfc /scannow DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth Here's the report from Event Viewer: Log Name: Application Source: Application Hang Date: 15/06/2021 17:17:34 Event ID: 1002 Task Category: (101) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: DESKTOP-EEBHG2T Description: The program explorer.exe version 10.0.19041.1023 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. I have a strange problem with my PC, a few hours ago, I just started seeing random elements disappear from my discord, (profile pics etc), then I tried opening chrome but that wouldn't work, nothing in the task bar would function, moving and resizing opened programs worked but nothing else did. Win+X didn't work, restarted, same thing, did this a couple times, then I just waited, and somehow windows explorer managed to slowly load up (5-10mins). List of things I have tried that haven't worked: Restarting Safe mode Sfc scannow

Hi, I don't know how i can explain this, i will try. It started got new gear for my PC, i kept cpu mobo and drives, swapped out my PSU GFX and ram and formatted my PC after that i installed every driver on my mainboards webpage, still no problems. then i booted my PC and it started out by having over 30 seconds at the "Welcome" and i asked for help and got told I should reformat allthough this time i shouldn't install drivers, and let Windows do it.. So i did, i still have the same problem my Explorer.exe is messing with me if i shut down my PC, it will shut down fast no problems, first boot the morning after it will make sure my Explorer.exe doesn't work + long loadtimes I also don't have any icons only the "Windows flag" but I can't press on it, after time i get a message i can end process and/or wait, then my screens blackens and I have to restart my PC manually before it will boot up and work properly, i am afraid anything is wrong with my PC. The MS i download is from their own website the MediaCreationTool. I hope you guys understand a bit and can help me out I use my PC daily for school. the problem I have very high cpu usage from explorer.exe since a few days. It uses about 50-70% cpu (always 2 of my 4 cores 100%) what i tried already I ran a lot of antimalware scanners, virus scanners etc and none of them found anything. All of my drivers are up to date including windows reinstall all audio drivers details known about the problem file I installed process explorer and in thread information I can see that 2 threads use about 25% CPU each under the process explorer.exe the start address of these 2 threads is both AUDIOSES.DLL+0x1141b0 when i start windows (with internet or without) it takes about 1 min for it to start. my temporary fix I can kill the 2 threads that use all the cpu and then it stays off until i restart my pc. what can it be and how can i fix it. I added a picture of the process

so for the past 6 months, whenever i change files on my desktop, my desktop background goes black. explorer functions normally, like i can edit files, browse folders, all the normal stuff, but the desktop image is replaced with black. if i kill explorer.exe in taskmanager and then re lunch it, it goes back to normal, and i can see my background image. i cant for the life of me figure out why this keeps happening, and it is pretty annoying. i have all the latest drivers installed, i have the latest version of radeon settings installed, all the windows updates. and it has been going on for months, through many versions and updates of all my programs. i have tried different images and image formats as desktop backgrounds, but it didnt help. it isnt replacing my desktop image, it just stops showing it for some reason. i have windows 10 home i7 6700k, RX 480 8GB, Asus gaming aura mobo im pushing a 4k 60Hz panel, and 2 1080p 60Hz panels (2 HDMI, 1 DVI port used) happens regardless of how many or which panels im using any ideas? Thanks if you need more part info, here is a link to my build https://pcpartpicker.com/b/vpd6Mp

I've noticed a few times that my older laptop gets extremely slow after being on overnight, checking taskmanager shows explorer.exe using over 5gb's of RAM. It's probably something i did but since this laptop is very old (bought in 2012 i think), but how should i approach this issue? how can i find out what is eating away at explorer.exe? it's something that has started recently (think about 2 weeks ago tops). simply ending the explorer.exe process and then starting it again via task manager fixes it but its not really a solution, more symptom control. PS: windows 7 64 bit home edition with 8gb working memory.

First I restarted my PC because my second monitor out of my two monitors became pixelated. After the restart, I entered my password (everything looked fine) and then when sent to the desktop, I was treated with what I joined to this post. Let it sit for a while just to see if it fixed itself but nothing. So I restarted it again through the "ctrl+alt+delete" window. Same story. I opened the performance monitor to see if something was out of the ordinary but nothing I could see. So I opened file explorer by clicking on one of the process and selecting "Open file location" and went to the "base files(?)" where you see your drives. Weirdly enough, my second and third drives looked "disabled"?(photo attached). When I try to open them, I get "D:\ is not accessible. Access is denied". Same thing for my E drive. So I started by running SFC in the CMD and got some invalid/corrupted files and I was sorta expecting it. Anw, they were successfully fixed. I restarted my PC. Logged back in. Still the same result as in the beginning. Read somewhere it might be bad RAM. So Removed all my RAM and tried all slots with one stick to see if it was a bad slot and exchanging the RAM stick with an other and checking all slots. Same result. Then I disconnected the drives that seemed "disabled" as I read somewhere that might be the issue. Same result. I've also updated the I don't know what else to do at this point... Specs: CPU: i7-4790 RAM: 16GB (DDR3) GPU: GTX 1070 Boot drive: Kingston "SUV400S37240G" Also, unable to download anything such as a fresh new BIOS as it seems my internet is not working...

For about a few months now I've noticed that my PC randomly stutters for a second every once in a while. Its especially noticeable when watching videos as the video randomly stutters and is stuttering for about a second, audio is unaffected during this time. I downloaded Bitsum's project lasso to try and remedy the issue and I noticed the main culprit to be explorer.exe which every once in a while, seemingly randomly spikes my CPU usage enough for it to lag everything. I recently upgraded my PC (CPU, ram, mobo) and I noticed no change in the problem so my best guess is that its a windows 10 problem. I'd greatly appreciate any help with this issue as it has been driving me crazy for months. My specs: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 16 GB ripjaws DDR4 3200Mhz ram Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti 6GB Running windows on 256gb Crucial SSD Using 1TB hardrive

Still having issues. My pc either crashes to a black screen or randomly restarts. Ive now reverted to 1803 & 1809 both still restarting. Ive adjusted pagefiles. passes gpu stress and memtest Today I thought the pagefile fixed it, was running good for a day + then while playing Control it crashes to a black screen, then it randomly restarts 2-3 times, cant remember now. Before one of the restarts my background disappeared, windows explorer.exe crashed, I run it again, and then a minute or so after it restarts. PS+ while it was crashing windows explorer.exe I think I could hear one of my HDD clicking in an abnormal way, instead of the normal "chewing" it was more of a clock's tick... tick... tick...

I have automatic updates on my windows 10 pro. It has installed windows 10 1803 and I want to update it with windows 10 1809. For that, I have tried "windows update assist" and "media creation tool", USB flash drive, ISO file etc. But didn`t updated. After a soft restart at the starting "Undoing the changes"?. So I tried to delete the last update by booting into "safe mode", but I realised that after starting the safe mode the explorer.exe was crashing. I was only able to open windows settings (not control panel) by pressing "windows key + i". I also tried to run from run.exe by pressing "windows key + r" it also crashes randomly and if it works it is not opening the "control panel"? The PowerShell option is also used but not working for me. The explorer.exe working fine in normal mode. So pl guide me what should I do???

Hi, so my pc suddenly started to come up with a black screen and cursor after i logged in, the login animation (where it says welcome) now takes longer than normal and as i said, it comes with the black screen and cursor. i can use ctrl+alt+del to get into task manager, and i tried to run explorer.exe in there, this worked and i can now access my desktop, but, how do i fix so i dont have to do this everytime i login? Also on a side note, i dont know if it is to any importance, when the black screen with cursor is up theres a little tap open for settings for a windows script host or something, dont know what it is. Thanks for your time, any help is appreciated.

Hi, There's this problem, been going on for quite a while now. I have a pc with windows 8.1. Every now and then, when I boot up my PC and after I have logged on, windows becomes unresponsive and I can't click or do anything. I have to open task manager and force a restart of explorer.exe (sometimes more than once). I have had a look at the event log, and there are some error information, I don't know if it's anything to do with my problem or not. Does anyone know how to fix this? Hope you guys can help. Thanks, Dan

So a few days ago I installed some themes and other stuff like rain-meter and some torrents to my laptop, this evening the theme started acting up so I restarted my computers that is when I saw this message. Now I'm not sure what this is or how it happened but I need desperate help. I see that there are other people out there with a similar problem and the solution would be to do a system restore but the thing is my system restore doesn't work either. "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore.
