Noob here, I have an old Toshiba encore write 2 (windows tablet) that I've been thinking of switching to Linux for awhile now to give it a bit of a refresh. My biggest reason for this is that Id like to use it for sketching and every time windows gets another update it gets seems to get alot slower which is not good from an art perspective. This would be my first time trying Linux on a device from scratch and my biggest concern would be support for the digitizer ( it uses Wacom active es with the Toshiba trupen). Would it be possible to switch it from windows and retain full functionality? Any advice is welcome

My friend is building a new PC setup and I am not sure what monitor to recommend to him. He is mainly focused on Content creation with Animation, Drawing, 3D Design, Music Production and Video Production with Gaming as a secondary focus. He has a budget of around £500 but this is flexible by about £50 up or down. The monitor has to be 4K, and reasonably colour accurate for his creation and a refresh rate of above 60Hz would be nice but in no means a priority. Does anyone have any ideas for a monitor that fits this category. Thanks in advance for any responses.

—[SOLVED]— I have a wacom tablet at home and I'm fairly happy with it. But I would like something to bring digital drawing with me and Wacom's "mobile" offerings are offensive at best. So I was considering spending money in an Apple product for the first time... used. Any suggestions? I will use it for: • Procreate • that's it. maybe youtube but idc. I don't want any of the latest overpriced apple rectangles, I only need to run procreate on it, what should I go for to save a buck?

I resolved to cel-shade it, but after several attempts, I know that I can't get it right on my own. I want to dabble in digital art and wanted some recommendations on tablets. I don't know where to start, but do know I want one I can simply plug in over USB to my PC or MacBook Pro and do some quick drawings with my stylus from time to time.

Hi all, I've been searching high and low for a 15"ish laptop to take with me on work projects that aren't nearby enough for me to take my desktop setup with me. I work in software like Unreal Engine 4, vvvv, Ableton Live, Max, Derivative TouchDesigner, Resolume, Photoshop, After Effects, Cinema 4D, etc. I know almost none of these are laptop friendly, but I know VJ's who run some of these things off Macbook Pro (not feeling the new one, seems kinda weak). Portable workstations (Lenovo, Dell, HP) seem to have everything I'd need, until I see the GPU specs, and while the gaming laptops tick the GPU box, they are really quite obnoxious looking (ROG and MSI) and I wouldn't feel great carrying one into a meeting with a client without skinning everything (or a million pieces of black tape). Of course, performance is more important in this, but my ideal scenario is a black box with serious guts and a great screen. Possibly too much to ask, but I've seen some great, in depth answers on here and I thought I'd give it a try. Thanks in advance everyone!

Not interesting in the surface or a tablet with screen would be cool but is not a must. I want something I can plug into over usb to my desktop and draw in my lap while I see my work on my monitors come to life. Also any suggestions on drawing software too? I want to draw in my free time more, stuff like the attached This one was recommended to me (wacom cintiq 13, 2014), but not sure what others I should look into (this is one looks very expensive).

Hi, had already decided for a Ryzen 5 2400G for the integrated graphics but now i have this other build option, not sure if a gpu is necessary for digital art in photoshop and krita, that is my priority, and i just read linux and ryzen seem to have some compatibility issues, that worries me, don't want to have booting problems. Hello, I'm currently looking for a laptop, mainly for digital painting and a bit of 3D modelling, and I'm in need of recommendations. Most of my time will be spent on Photoshop and the likes, and I will also do a bit of 3D modelling, not intensive ones. Hey guys. I have a low-budget computer that I built 4 months ago. I got the cheapest computer because that was what I was able to get. Now I want to upgrade it. I mainly use it for doing digital painting in Photoshop. Sometimes, the brushes lag at low spacing setting (lower means better quality, cuz there are more patterns applied). I don't know if the brush engine relies on the single core performance, or it can utilize more than one core. Tthat's why I'm here. What processor should I get for my system? Over the last couple of years I have tried to educate myself in many of the different digital art programs. Trying out a whole bunch, seeing what software is good for what uses. This thread will be filled with my opinion of course, but I hope you will see what I mean through the pros and cons. I will also only be focusing on 2D art, as such I didn’t mention any 3D modeling programs. I will also not talk about animation programs (like Adobe Flash, Adobe Animate or OpenToonz), because I’m not an animator. My main art programs I use is Gimp. I use Inkscape to play around with vector images and occasionally use Fire Alpaca or Krita. I have used Photoshop a lot too. Hi Guys I was thinking of building a digital picture frame like (Electric Objects - http://shop.electricobjects.com/). I was fascinated by the idea of making something like in Harry Potter (using GIFs and VIdeo Files) with additional features like Calendar, Notifications, Time etc.. using a Linux system with a web service to manage all the functionality. This is no commercial endeavor of any kind just a geek trying to do something cool I am thinking of getting a Korean Monitor (Crossover-COCO402UT) and Pairing it with a Raspberry Pi 3 and building a Wood Frame to hold both My Main Issue is will Raspberry Pi 3 be able to run a 4K Monitor at a decent frame rate (Min 24 / Great if 30) with H.265 And if it can't is there any alternatives? Ok so basically I've been researching for months now but have been getting headaches on finding just the right device to work on projects not just at home. If anyone is willing to help out please let me know, it's appreciated greatly. The basic minimum requirements are as follows. - Color accurate IPS display, minimum of 1080p res. - Intel i5 duo core - 6Gb RAM - If tablet supports pressure sensitive non-capacitive stylus (min 1024 pressure levels) - Handle programs such as Photoshop cs6 and Paint Tool Sai. - on board graphics - preferable not above $1200 (def below if possible)

Im soon going to go buy parts for a new build, and my girlfriend wants to take my old computer. Im going to sell it to her for 200$, but she wants to buy a graphics card that better suits games and photoshop. (Theres a really low end card in it right now that barely plays CS:GO on low settings). She has a budget of 100$ -150$ for a card. and nothing Im looking at is really within reason. For comparison: She'd like to play Battlefield 4 at medium - high settings without ANY lag What card would be suitable?
