Hello all, First time poster, long time lurker. I've finally got my remote gaming PC setup and desk to a point where I would like to share the setup with the community. I hope others wanting a similar setup can gleam some useful ideas from this post! Background: My gaming PC puts out a good amount of heat, and my desk is in my bedroom. In the summer the room is brutal after a few hours of gameplay. Even with aggressive AC, the room can hit 90F. I've seen Linus' setup and I already had a server rack, so I figured I'd do a similar thing with the long distance display cables. I did try out other methods; RDP, moonlight, and steam remote play, but found the latency and compression were just too noticeable. Not to mention that wake on lan is unreliable in my experience. As for thunderbolt, I didn't want to get stuck into an ecosystem of specific motherboards and cpus. The Long Cables: I found some good 75ft optical USB and Displayport cables on Amazon for ~$160 a piece. Its definitely pricy for a single cable, but it is plenty worth it IMO. I was worried about latency issues with long cables, but after testing it out, I found no noticeable difference between a 3ft USB and display cable and the 75ft cables. The Gaming PC Power Switch: The PC power switch circuit is 5v but only 0.01 amps, so voltage drop over 75ft could be less than a volt. So I could just run a pair of wires the whole distance. But I thought, if I'm running a whole other cable through the walls, I might as well make it a useful cable. Despite the extra cost, I decided to use a CAT 7 Ethernet cable and just hijack a twisted pair inside the cable. Just a little bit of future proofing if I move in the future, for the next person. I got one of those momentary push buttons with built in LED, the ones you might find on custom PC cases. And I could use a second twisted pair in the Ethernet cable and splice into the power LED header on the motherboard. Granted, the voltage drop at that distance with 24-26 awg wires is about half, but the LED still illuminates enough. And as a side benefit, I still had two twisted pairs left, just enough for a 100base-tx connection, as well as PoE mode A. (Don't ask me why when I already have an Ethernet cable to my room, in short I'm splicing off two pairs for a PoE powered GPS NTP server in the attic) As for each end of this power switch madness, I wanted something that wasn't entirely cobbled together. So, I found some Ethernet splitters, the ones that split out a gigabit Ethernet cables 4 twisted pairs into 2 100base-tx connections. For the PC side of things I got one of those M.2 to RJ45 network adapters. The one I found has the all the logic on the m.2 side, so the pcie bracket just had raw electrical connections. I used this as a nice way to make the bulkhead connection into the PC case. I got some splitters for the motherboards power sw and led headers, and connected up the rj45 network adapter. The other side was definitely more cobbled. I cut the end off an Ethernet cable and soldered the pairs (orange and green) onto the push button. Covered it in dielectric grease and wrapped in electrical tape and fabric wrap. Audio: I went pretty basic here, my monitor has 3.5mm port, so I'm just using audio over displayport. Then I have a terribly cheap 3.5mm mixer. I have ground loop isolators on all inputs and outputs and there is still a small hum in the background - to be fixed later. USB hub: This remote PC isn't my daily driver, for that I have a SFF Linux box. My KVM switch has two USB 3.0 ports (not for keyboard and mouse) that I have for a microphone and any USB drives I might need. Side note: The reason I have the connectpro KVM specifically is because I hate the delay of regular USB switches, so I needed one with USB DDM. Cable routing: I'm fairly lucky, theres an air return vent that shares a wall with my bedroom. I'm on the second floor and my server rack is in the basement, right next to the HVAC system, so it was basically a direct cable drop through the first floor. Pictures: Middle monitor is the only one I run on the gaming PC, the sides stay permanently on my daily driver SFF. Views of my cable rats nest. Gotta hide 'em somewhere: Definitely not completely finished with this setup, still have some things to take care of, like having a non-duct taped together quality audio mixer, and maybe mounting the UPS and KVM under the desk. I would love to hear what y'all think! Hi, this feels like a stupid product to want but does a cable management clip exist that uses a clamp system instead of double sided tape? I've attached 2 images of adhesive cable management clips. Surely there must be some sort of C-clamp version out there? I just want something to gather a big bunch of cables, at a position near the edge of my desk, and keep them neatly there. But I want to be able to reposition them without dealing with double sided tape, nor having to drill/re-drill into my desk top? Even a C clamp that has a loop on top to take a cable tie would be good. Anyone seen something similar? Cheers

Ive been looking into getting a new desk, and the Structube Franke looks amazing, 79” wide and 31” deep, I cant find any other actual desk that is that size for the price. Curious if anyone here has had experience with it

I recently got diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back and wanted to know of a stand up desk that doesn't suck. Any recommendations? TIA

My current desk is an office desk, and there's metal beams covering under the desk spanning 4CM Long 2CM Thick, Would it be possible to still get a dual monitor stand and a cable rack? My desks dimensions are 160CM Length x 85CM Width. The metal supports are welded together and I cannot remove them. Thanks

Hello, i want to buy a condenser cardioid mic to use it for live gaming purpose (discord or teamspeak), i was thinking to buy a Tonor TC30 or Fifine K678, price is close to each other between 30-40 eur on my local store. Decided to go with a stand mic because the boom arm is in my way and i do not have much space for it. What's the best placement to avoid blocking my view? Can i use the mic on the side of my keyboard? Likely 50cm from my mouth, on the right side. This is my small desk. https://i.imgur.com/pH9up4Z.jpeg Thank you for any advice and tips.

Hey, fellas. First off, I'd like to apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong thread. Unless I missed it (Which is quite likely) I couldn't find a more fitting place to ask for assistance with this. Now, the real problem: I'm in desperate need of a new desk chair, but I know nothing about em'; Size, brands, reliability, or what to look for. It's all foreign speak to me, so I find myself in quite a bind. Tried reading other forums, reviews, etc, but none really gave me any good leads and felt more like they were based on what was the most gamery a gamer could game on. I also couldn't make heads or tails of some of the more in-depth reviews, so I was really hopin' some folk here more knowledgeable than I could spare some assistance. Ya' see, my current chair has been bothering me quite badly for a bit now. The hydraulic(?) or whatever is used to increase it's height has given up the ghost and is constantly dropping itself almost to the floor. As a moderately tall fellow, this makes it an ergonomic nightmare for me. Secondly, this thing's killer on my lower back and legs. I regularly get up to stretch or do some light exercises to help just generally, but if I'm in this thing for more than a few hours, which is quite common as I do college online and keep gettin' sucked into all the great games this year, I end up going to bed feeling like I took a Chevy to my lumbar and scoliosis will be on me come morning. I put my pillow on it which helps a bit, but only delays the inevitable really. Again, I know nothin' about what to look for or size or all that, so here's just some general information for anyone if it could help lead to a better discovery; I'm about 6'1" (185-ish cm) and 157lbs, with some real long legs and a tall desk that make it so I need the chair to sit high to be comfortable and not be splayed out like that old South Park WoW player. Don't really care none about design, aesthetics, or fancy features like heating and cooling. I'm purely interested in ergonomics and makin' sure I don't end up the Hunch Back of Notre Dame before I even finish my degree. General pain, soreness, stiffness, etc in my current chair is largely in my lower back and my legs. Don't really know anything about brands, but I'd really anything new to be durable and last as long as possible. Had a DXRacer(?) once as a gift, and the material got all flakey after a few years. Still haven't fully managed to remove it all from my carpet. Don't much care for material, so long as it's comfortable and doesn't leave me sweating like a pig in heat in the hellish summers I have to deal with. Don't have any material allergies either. Only requirement here is no genuine leather or other animal based products, for personal reasons. Never found leather chairs comfortable any how. As for cost, I saw some truly hellish prices during my searches. Seriously who in the hell is willin' to shell for $3.4k for a chair?! I ain't flush with cash at the current, but I'm genuinely concerned enough about my spinal health that I'm willin' to dig into my emergency savings if need be, so my cap is $1,400 MAX, and I would REALLY like to get nowhere close to that if able... And that's about all I can think of at current, though if there's any other specifics I'm not thinking of, I'll answer as fast as I can. Thanks for takin' the time to read this if ya' got this far, and apologies again if this is the wrong thread for this, but I'm genuinely in a bind here, so if there's anyone that can render aid I would be more than grateful. I'll keep looking at at other options as well, but it's hard for me to tell anything about a chair sight-unseen. Thanks again!

The M6 Computer - portable mini workstation desk The name is derived from the Star Trek: TOS episode 'The Ultimate Computer'. When Captain Kirk outwitted The "evil" M5 computer? My computer design is one better. It's a M6. I started by designing a case mod of the M5 from the TV prop, then the design evolved into this. My design fills the need between a gaming laptop and a desktop setup with a desk and all that entails. Use Case: someone who wants a full gaming PC but doesn't have room to devote to it or space for a desk. The M6 Computer can be rolled out to use, and wheeled away when idle. The entire desk PC case can be made with a single sheet of 4' x 8' x 5/8" (1219mm x 2438mm x 9.8mm) plywood. Plus drawer slides, Misc. Metal hardware and PC hardware. The PC hardware should have plenty of room for a low profile mITX or mATX system case. My intent was to have the bottom, sides, front of the case milled from smoked plexiglass. Or the front and bottom are a single sheet of bent plexiglass and it serves as a removable motherboard tray. The PC components would be centrally located and 2.1 sound system could easily be integrated into the desk PC case design (as indicated by grilles in the exploded view). Subwoofer and Audio amp on one side and SFX PSU on the other. M6-PC-desk.pdf A 3D model of a variation to be molded from recycled plastic. - I made the model look like an 1890's Art Nouveau steam radiator - The Exploded view shows the Plywood version. In the M6 Computer desk PC, the Motherboard case (gray glass) hangs from the underside of the Red desktop / Monitor stand. Notches and tabs key the side to the top panel. The Blue desktop / Keyboard / Mouse tray can be rolled out on drawer sliders and rolled back when not in use. There are tabs on the keyboard tray that fit into slots on the the sides to guide the sliding lower desktop. Support is provided from the drawer rails. It is integral to the Industrial Design Intent: There must be a generous gap between the underside of the case and the top of the keyboard tray to allow the keyboard and mouse to be slid under the upper desktop and PC. Similar to how the Commodore AMIGA 1000 hid it's keyboard. The rear of the desk needs steel K-bracing for stability. The sides are designed so the front feet are on stationary feet while the rear are on wheels. Once a user is done with the mini workstation, the keyboard tray can be slid back, and then the entire table can be lifted by the front and rolled back out of the way. Should Linus and his team of engineers build it?

6-monitor setup: stand, monitors, PC, mice, mat

Aiming for "Yeah, there's a 90% chance my computer can run this well enough that I'd play it". I don't need 1ms response time for FPS or similar. I'm guessing more intense things on the main monitor only, and more casual ones on 3*1=3, 2*2=4 or 3*2=6These 2, Blender and gaming, seem like a chicken and egg-situation to me: the better it's able to, the more I'll use it for thoseWhile I do want a better gaming experience than I currently have (80 fps in Portal at 1920*1080p on default settings meaning no anti-aliasing babyyy), I don't want to start spending dozens of hours a week gaming. Budget: My PC is my baby, I can't put a number on it. Country: USA (Vermont, AKA no Ikea for hundreds of miles) So this last year has been hell for us all, especially when it comes to building a custom PC. After a really long time of searching, I upgraded my 7 year old (8 now?) laptop that had an i7-4750HQ with Iris Pro 5200 iGPU and 8GB of RAM, to a beautiful new PC with a 3080 FE, 5900x, etc - full PC here. Now that I have the PC of my dreams (more or less), I need the desk / area to match it. I'm currently using an L shaped tempered glass desk I got on Amazon that's alright, but it sucks to clamp a racing wheel to, monitors arms, etc, and the overall space is kind of limited. That said, I'm looking to go the butcher block route like all the beautiful sexy battlestations you see on the internet. On that note, I don't have an Ikea anywhere near me (and shipping is insane), and Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon, Walmart, etc, are all failing me as far as replacing the "Alex Drawers" is concerned. DESK PARTS Support / Alex Drawer Replacement - Costco Mobile 3-drawer Pedestal File Cabinet with Casters x2 Butcher Block / Desk Top - Butcher Block From Lowes The file cabinets weigh in at 60lbs each, and all reviews say that the build quality exceed expectations. I found a few reviews of people using them for the exact same purpose as me, and they seem to love them. They're a bit pricey, but very heavy duty, and offer great storage, which I am in need of (it's not just support for the desk, I do in fact need storage of this nature). I'd prefer a wood look I think (to match), but the structural integrity of this sounds better, they're very heavy-duty, and the matte finish doesn't look too off from wood IMO. As for the butcher block, this is where I need help. I know jack about wood, and despite a bit of research, I'm not learning as much as I'd like. I have no experience with coloring, finishing, etc. I'd like the block to be a bit on the darker side, but the other blocks I found that were dark, also had pretty bad reviews, and I'd rather have a better piece of wood and finish it if needed (or not), than a bad piece of wood. I do have a cat that will likely climb around on the desk time to time, so a finish to ensure basic walking on it, food plates, drinks (with coasters 99% of the time) don't destroy it is desired. 6 Foot seems to meet my spatial needs, and hopefully won't sag at all like an 8 foot that probably requires a support. If I do need a support in the middle for this, please let me know, but the PC itself will be on the right, directly over a cabinet. It was also suggested I get some non-slip material for between the wood and desk, which seems like sound advice. In a perfect world I might go 8 foot instead of 6 foot on the butcher block, but I currently don't have the space, and I think with a monitor arm I'll be completely fine. My needs are simply more space, more storage (current desk has none, and I have a plastic bin type storage that sucks), and enough room for triple monitors and my PC. I think I'll want a monitor arm soon after, but I can figure that out once I have the desk. I just bought a second Dell S2721DGF, and I literally can't fit it on my desk right now, even if I remove the older 22'' Acer I have, as there's just no space for it. Any advice on the butcher block? Does this seem like it will work? Anything I'm missing? Are there any non-DIY desks at $500 that blow this out of the water? $500 is steep for a DIY, but I think the results will be amazing, just really want some outside perspective and confirmation before I drop this kind of money on a desk area. Thanks for any advice, it's incredibly appreciated! First photo is old, but more or less my setup (had a 3070 TI that I sold and replaced with the 3080) Second photo is my current setup, showing how that monitor just isn't going to fit, and my shit is crowded. New shelf though! Third photo is a rough generic idea of what I'm going for - image credit, someone with a better space than I.

Hi All! I have decided on my PC, but I can't decide on a desk! What is the best, not too expensive l-shaped desk that is black and doesn't break the bank? Thanks in advance! -Grimet

does anyone know of a good L shaped corner desk? i've had a pretty standard ikea desk thats able to hold my two monitors and all my other peripherals for 4 years but because i've recently upgraded to a pc i needed some more space. Preferably i'd like to not spend a ton just on a desk

So... I need a new desk (not sure if appropriate place, but didn't see a better one). Where is the best places to look for desks?

modding I would like to build a system monitor into my desk.
Impious posted a topic in Cases and Mods
I have seen some Case mods for a system monitor LCD inside the case, but I was thinking about setting one up inside my desk, like a little spot with a glass top with a Pie and maybe a touchscreen. I have no idea what im doing, any thoughts would be appreciated. -
Hey folks! I had a quick look around for similar questions but couldn't find anything relevant. Looking for a good monitor desk mount for my Corsair Xeneon monitor. Something for a small space (not much swivel needed and the screen doesn't need to get any closer either, see pic below). If there is a mount that can move upwards for easy access to ports then all the better! Or maybe a mount where one can easily remove the screen without unscrewing anything (or at least not much, bit like the ergotron mounting mechanism) I've seen a few options but I'd rather not faff around with returns, or worse, a broken/damaged monitor. Cheers!

I recently built a PC for one of my friends and he has a small TV (30-32 inches I think) that he wants to mount above his two displays. Initially he was going to wall mount it but thinks a desk mount would work better. There are plenty of products like these on the market but the clamps are limited to 1-3 inches. His desk has a drawer beneath it and is about 6 inches thick. Does anyone know of a single monitor arm that would work for a desk this thick?

Not exactly PC build planning related...But desk planning related. I've been looking for a triple monitor mount solution that can support having one monitor in the center, one overhead, and one on the side... attached an image as an example. Is this achievable with an single monitor mount? Or do I have to grab two mounts to pull this off?
