Back in October, I bought a used RTX 3080 from ebay. I installed it with no issues and it has been working as expected for the past 5 months. A few weeks ago, artifacts starting appearing and sometimes my game would crash. Last week, the computer won't even post when the GPU is installed. Strangely, when I took my motherboard out of my case and set it up test bench style, the GPU was perfectly fine. Once I put it back in the case, it won't post. The GPU is still receiving power because the fans are spinning, and it sometimes posts, but then crashes after five minutes. I took out the graphics card and tried using the iGPU and it worked perfectly. But, when I put the GPU back in, it won't post, even though I set the BIOS to use the iGPU. Is my GPU dead? Before the crashing started, my CPU and GPU temps were in line, 90 and 70 degrees Celsius respectively. What I have already tried: Reseating the GPU. Reseating the RAM. Hi all. I've been having a heating problem with my custom PC for a while. The gist of the problem is that the heat of my CPU gets incredibly high (like, between 85-100°C high) for no apparent reason. I'll have Discord and a couple of Chrome tabs open, or just one app, and my fans start blowing extremely loud, with my performance also lagging. I'll check Task Manager, and displayed performance will be normal, something like 1-4% CPU usage. However, the CPU will get so hot, sometimes it thermal throttles. At one point, I replaced the thermal paste and blew out any dust, and the problem persisted. This continued for a while, and then completely disappeared for over a year for seemingly no reason. I was able to run multiple apps and a game at once with no issues. However, it's recently shown up again. Through testing, here's what I've discovered: My AIO seems to work. It makes funny noises sometimes, but I've checked, and at these high temps, both tubes feel like they have water flowing, and one is hot while the other is cool. I've also checked fans, they blow a good amount of cool air out of the top, and the radiator doesn't seem especially hot either. Again, this isn't a result of pushing my PC too hard. This pretty much never happens when I'm doing especially challenging things like running VR games or several applications at once, only at low workloads. Likely not a result of misreadings, as both the area around the CPU and one of the AIO tubes get warm. Anyone have any idea what's going on? My specs are as follows: Ryzen 7 5800X MSI SUPRIM RTX 3070 Ti 32GB 3800mhz Trident Z RAM MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS motherboard Lian Li GALAHAD 240mm AIO Help would be much appreciated! EDIT: Might also be important to mention that these aren't spikes: Immediately from boot, temps on several sensors go up to 85+ and stay like that.

My current pc is a ThinkCentre M series prebuilt desktop with an i5 that i got for free, with an evga gtx 1050ti slapped inside along with an ssd or two. I am looking to slowly upgrade it to a fully custom pc, so i was wondering if i could upgrade the case, fans, and power supply first, and then once i have more money, upgrade the mobo, cpu, ect. However, I am having a hard time figuring out whether this Motherboard (IS8XM) will fit in a standard ATX case and take power from a standard power supply. Any insight or alternate solutions would be appreciated.

EZ DEBUG LED shows RED CPU and AMBER DRAM Building my first pc; I've done teardowns before and so I'm moderately knowledgeable on parts, specs, and whatnot. I was going for the most budget options with high specs, so here is the parts list: GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX CPU: Ryzen 7900X MOBO: MSI B650M-A Wifi RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (single stick of dual channel) Wraith Prism Cooler; I will also try the LT720 Liquid Cooler, but I don't think this is the problem. 1 TB SSD, Samsung Brand PSU: 1000W TF Skywind Intl. RGB Concerning the RAM, I had a pair of dual channel 2x16GB Kingston Fury 5600MHz, but was not on the MOBO QVL list. I have been using the Corsair stick ever since, for trouble shooting. I made sure to put the single Corsair Dominator into the DIMMA2 slot- according to the user guide. Similarly, when using the 2x16GB Kingston Fury, I used the DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 slots- again, according the user guide. No success. I have tried Flashing BIOS with USB stick; Flash is successful, but PC won't BOOT. Can't get a display, tried reapplying thermal paste, resocketing CPU, DRAM, removing everything except PSU, CPU, RAM and MOBO; still doesn't work. Integrated graphics on the CPU should have created a display even without the GPU, but no success. It appeared that some of the pins on the CPU SOCKET (on the MOBO) were bent; I carefully put them back in shape, testing before and after this. Online resources said a couple bent SOCKET pins would not affect conductivity. I have reset CMOS multiple times, reuploading latest BIOS. Has worked more times than not. Otherwise, I've been stuck for weeks. The PC turns on- RBG fans and RAM light up- but no BOOT. I have tried exchanging PSUs- previously I was using the CORSAIR CX750 RGB. I am aware the TF Skywind is a terrible PSU, but it's working for now and I just want this to work. The only thing that has changed is that occasionally the BOOT and VGA LEDs will light up as well, sometimes turning OFF the CPU LED. I have no idea why this happens. Pins are as follows: 8 pin connector to CPU ATX to MOBO 2 separate Daisy 8 pins to GPU- I made sure to not connected 8pins on the daisies, there are two 8 pins running from PSU to CPU PLEASE HELP ME

I attempted to build a PC and failed. It boots into the BIOS, but when I insert the installation flash drive to install windows, the computer freezes after showing the windows logo with a glitched part of the logo, as you can see below. I already tried doing a hard reset by removing and plugging back in the CMOS battery. Can someone help? Hi all, I am looking to build a custom rack mount computer that will act as my home Plex / NAS Server. I am new to this stuff so I greatly appreciate feedback. Originally I was going to use an HPE DL380 Gen9 but after having it on for a while, I decided to sell it because it is unbearably loud. I already have some items purchased for the new server that I would prefer to re-use. I already have an UNRAID license for UNRAID Plus, I would be open to upgrading to Pro if I needed to though. I also already have 2x WD RED 1TB SSDs as cache drives. I also have 6x 4TB Seagate EXOS drives, 4 for storage and 2 for redundancy. I never officially had the Dell HPE server up and running just because it was so outrageously loud that I couldn't keep it on. This is the new computer I proposed to replace it with: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cDNscb CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K 3.7 GHz 10-Core Processor ($279.99 @ B&H) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9S 46.44 CFM CPU Cooler ($59.95 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($219.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory ($274.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Red SA500 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($124.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital Red SA500 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($124.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate EXOS Enterprise 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($110.00 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate EXOS Enterprise 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($110.00 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate EXOS Enterprise 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($110.00 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate EXOS Enterprise 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($110.00 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate EXOS Enterprise 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($110.00 @ Amazon) Storage: Seagate EXOS Enterprise 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($110.00 @ Amazon) Video Card: Asus GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB DUAL EVO OC Video Card ($674.49 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($149.99 @ Amazon) Wired Network Adapter: Intel X550-T2 PCIe x4 10 Gbit/s Network Adapter ($362.00 @ Amazon) Total: $2931.38 Not included in this list I need an HBA card because I can't find a motherboard with enough SATA ports and a 4U rack mount case. The graphics card I did not purchase yet, and I also do NOT plan on purchasing at $700! That is so outrageous!!! The total budget is $1800-$2000 excluding drives. I am open to purchasing things used Thanks!

Hey Everyone, Firstly, Gday, my name is Bill and this is my scratch built totally custom pc case. I will be adding more photos and build videos as the project progresses but here it is so far. Its about a meter tall and around 400mm wide, it currently weighs 75 odd kilos and like myself through Rona it's gaining weight rapidly. Why is probably the first question, and to be honest, why not, the days of monstrous cases are gone, the days where the computer had to be located on a reinforced floor (not really). It actually started from an old Team group server I used in a previous build, it was heavy gauge steel and nearly collapsed my desk. I wanted to build something different, something unusual, the case will be totally water cooled and runs a water 2 air intercooler for the main radiator. 3 X 180 fans sit atop and 3 X 140 fans will fill the front. the final Colour will be machinery yellow with highlights of black here and there, it will look like something that would have rolled right out of the Cat factory. Stay tuned for more progress pics and to see how this came to life, check out the build process below. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnsElvs3HIrGsOWdrT_Uj4A

Hey, so my problem is, that at times my processor is at 100% workload. Sometimes even with only background operations running like razer software, wmi prov host, explorer, etc. It started probably a month back (Got my new pc setup for about 7 months), desktop icons won't load, searching for something in the explorer takes long, peripherals don't work propperly, etc. I went through my device-manager and checked the drivers, everything is top (seemed to check for drivers fairly quick, like .5 seconds, dunno if that's normal). I got a bit concerned only today because I couldn't even use firefox or similar to google stuff, use the explorer, etc. Rebooted and went mostly down to normal. Windows is on the newest update, so are (at least what the device-manager tells me) the drivers. Haven't done memtest, antivirus is intact. I will attach my DxDiag for specs and some screenshots of the task manager, if you need anything more specific please feel free to ask. The pictures are from freshly rebooting and simmilar sometimes appear random while pc is in use. My PC is custom, will upgrade my full sys in the next few weeks tho. System specs: (DxDiag for more information) CPU: Ryzen 5 3600X 6-Core 12-CPU 3.8 GHz Base clock (overclocked) RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 Gig 3000 MHz Mainboard: MSI B450 MMORTAR MAX MS-7B89 BIOS: 2.B0 (type: UEFI) System running Windows 10, PSU: CoolerMaster 600 W EDIT: Did some updates and apparently the software "Medal" was the problem, since I don't run it, I haven't had any problems with the cpu workload, so as it seems Medal had too many requests to the WMI Provider Host DxDiag.txt

How good does my PC need to be/what do I need for recording at 1080p 60fps or streaming my games downscaled at 720p 60/30fps? I want to save up for a gaming PC that can record and stream with no lag, recording at 1080p 60 and streaming at at least 720p 60fps. Bear in mind that as one of the best surviv.io players, this will be what I would record/stream most of the time. It's not a very demanding game from the PCs POV, but I would still like to have the option of streaming Fortnite/PUBG or more advanced games if I wanted to. If anybody could send me a link to a PC I could buy that could manage this, or give me a list of stuff (CPUs, GPUs etc.) that I would need to include in a PC build so it's good enough for this, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't have all the money in the world, so if you could give me a few different options at different prices that would be amazing. Thanks, Vulfka

Hey there geeks, I want to buy a 16GB RAM for my 2nd slot in my Lenovo laptop These are my specs: Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 520 (Model: LNVNB161216) Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz 1.80 GHz Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce MX150 4GB VRAM RAM: 12GB (4+8) dual channel DDR4 2133MHz The problems I'm facing are: 1. I have a permanent 4GB dual channel 2133 MHz DDR4 RAM soldered on my Motherboard (basically not up-gradable) 2. In my country 16GB 2133MHz RAM is not manufactured and so not available. Is it possible to install a memory stick of 16Gb 2400Mhz or 2666Mhz with the 4GB 2133Mhz DDR4 RAM sticks (dual channel)? If so, will it be compatible?

Basically I am entitled to a DSA allowance which is a funded by the goverment for students with learning difficulties. In this allowance they have said that i am allowed to have insurance over my PC, and like if its free take it. The only problem is that it has to be through a company that allows custom PCs and has a maxium cover of £3000+ preferably. Is there a good place where I can start looking?

The other day I found a Gamer's Nexus video in my subscription feed. It was Steve Burke criticizing a magazine's article on how PC building is "hard" and to prove it wasn't, would do a speed build. Admittedly I didn't watch the whole video, nor did I read the article in question. But my overall takeaway is this: to all you people who build or built their machines, stop saying it's easy as if building a PC is like operating an elevator or using a phone. Now ignoring the other aspects of building a PC that conveniently get ignored, like identifying your needs, planning your budget, researching parts, testing, and if needed, troubleshooting, of course it's easy to build a PC if you've done it before. But to a fresh newbie, it still may be a nervous experience that really isn't all that easy for them. To put in another way, I think about the time I was leaning how to ride a motorcycle vs when I ride now. I was nervous about shifting gears around except up when accelerating and down when coming to a stop, I had trouble with the clutch, hills were a problem, going down even past 45 MPH scared me, lane splitting was something I dared not to do with moving traffic. Now, all of that no longer matters. I can shift just by my gut feeling. I have competent control of the clutch. I can manage most hills (though I'm sure San Francisco will humble me in a second). Highway speeds feel normal. I even lane split in moving traffic (and I survived LA). These are all more or less "natural" to me. I don't have to think about how to do the action, but merely when to do it. So riding a motorcycle is easy to me. I think it's easy. But it's not. Granted building a PC isn't this complex, risky, or what have you, but I wanted to illustrate a point. I'm sure most of you who built their own PC consulted the internet a few dozen times throughout each step of the process. I'm sure you spent a lot of time mulling over what's good for you or what's not. Or maybe you didn't and just copied someone else's build (though I'd argue you're sort of cheating). I'm sure when something went wrong, you nearly needed a change of underwear or blew a few blood vessels. If PC building were really easy for anyone, nobody would need to do or worry about any of this.

An Awesome Build For An Awesome Guy: "Can I get a Gaming PC for £500?"... "Yes", "Good, build me one for £1000 then"... "yes". Was pretty much how this went. I was given no more guidance other than "Don't care about looks, just make it work.". Obviously by looking at this images you can see that I did some colour matching, not that it was hard to find red and black AMD gear. What Would I Change?: Working to a budget is always a challenge, there's always that part that cost a little more but you want it. In this case, it was an MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard. Would have looked so good in this rig but the £90 price tag plus US shipping (total of £110 there or there about) would have been stretching the budget just a little to far. My compromise was a GA-970a which is all black, and has similar features to the 970. I won't list tech specs on here. Other that that one part, I'm happy with the way it is shaping up. Perhaps I will change my mind on this once I actually start building the thing. Internal Hardware: CPU: FX 8320e GPU: MSI 290X RAM: Kingston 2x8GB 2400MHz PSU: CX 750M Case: NZXT S340 SSD: R7 120GB HDD: WD 2TB Black LED: No name duel 30cm red strips. Product Shots: Whats Next: Building Commences at 7:30 tomorrow morning and will likely not stop until late on Sunday night. Regular small updates will come almost hourly tomorrow but the final results will be posted in one large entry Sunday evening. Not a lot of new stuff coming out on the drawer and red mod blogs because of this. So stay tuned for some awesome looking system shots and hopefully very aggressive overclocking. Thank You :)

My Testing Equipment: While I'm not a professional technician I do have an assortment of tools for testing and what not. A lot of them are probably bad for this and that reason but I've had no trouble with them. So here's a list of the things that I have in my repair bag; An old laptop, Dell Inspiron 1501, running ether Ubuntu or Windows 10 depending on what mood I'm in. A thirmaltake PSU tester. Basic yes but very functional. A post card for PCI that works on some motherboards, the manual lists BIOS that it's compatible with but UEFI confuses it for some reason. Multi-bit magnetic ratchet screwdriver. Assorted USB3 drives. Red Tape has a windows10 install image but would usually be windows7, looking at getting more than one on at a time. If I figure out how then I will write up an entry on it. The red USB with no tape is my software USB. Everything from drivers to office2013. Finally the blue USB, smallest at 16GB this is my UBCD drive. UBCD being a great image for recovery, testing and repair. I use it for just about everything. It even comes with a virus scanner. USB2 Wi-Fi adapter with drivers on the Red USB. Useful when someone W-Fi stops working, this will determin weather it's the WAP or device. I've used this a lot with friends, friends of friends and family laptops. Colored pens and a tape, just because these are handy when I have to measure cases and desks. Micro USB charger for my phone and a laptop charger. (not visible) Whats Next?: Still updating Blogs daily and checking for comments. Expecting to have big updates on the Smokey Attempts:The Red Mod blog ether this weekend or early next week. Thank You :)

Hi all, I am new to the PC world and after looking at pre-built vs building a PC myself I think I can do it and save some money vs having someone else supply and put it together for me. That being said, I am not sure on the parts I need per say and want to make sure that what I am getting is going to work as a cohesive unit. So any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. The biggest points of concern are making sure everything will fit in the form factor (Lian Li case) that I have chosen. I also want to make sure that the PSU I have chosen will work. If I can go lower on the Watts then that would be good to know as well. Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing from you all! New AMD GPU Update is setting off alarm in desktop pc!!!
AlaskaBvR posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I recently ran the update for AMD drivers that came out and while booting from its restart I heard the alarm for my pc go off for 5ish seconds then turn off. I didn't think anything of it. Recently coming across Linus's video "AMD Says You're Doing it Wrong. - Best Settings for AMD GPUs" and with getting the 7900xt decided to use those instructions to help me out. I got as far as enabling SAM, then ran the benchmark for "Horizon Zero Dawn." After a few seconds my alarm would sound off and not stop till I left the benchmark run. Did a quick test on FurMark as well and the same thing happened. It doesn't look temp based because it stops as soon as I stop putting a load on it. Started at 54F and I ended it just shortly after it hit 60F because of the noise. Is there anything I can do software wise to fix this? I am searching for a custom pc. My primary purpose is multimedia local storage and plex hosting. 1 A good monitor for 4k video playing. 2 Software for possible local video upscaling to 4k. (Will be using plex for hosting to other devices) 3 Hardware selection for the pc. Could anyone help me with selecting these under a budget?

Hey guys! I'm working on this build. I believe it holds great potential for gaming and that's basically all I'm using it for. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/iCypticx/saved/6Yny4D Check it out and do let me know if there are some recommendations! Just for clarification, I'm going to be using my old pc's 1TB Hard Drive, and it's PSU. I am not aware of the voltage of the PSU at this moment. But I'm pretty sure its around 500W. Which should be enough right?

I’ve been planning on building a Custom Gaming/Streaming PC, preferably having a Ryzen 5 3600 for the CPU, a NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super for the GPU, & 16 GB of RAM. I would like this build to last at least 5 years (with gradual component improvements/upgrades). Here’s my question: how easy is it to upgrade each component in a PC (RAM, CPU, GPU, Motherboard, Storage, Power Supply, Cooling Fans, etc.) in the long run? Can I just switch out each of these parts for a better one and have no issues or are some parts harder to replace than others? If so, why? (I am very new to the PC building game, as this will be my first build. Forgive my ignorance.)
