Hi, I purchased a new laptop with Windows 10 Home Single Language. My Cortana was working properly for the first few days then it stopped responding to me. It only replies to simple stuff like "What can you do?", "What is your name?", "Tell me a joke", etc. When I tell it to make an appointment or set an alarm it keeps on saying "I'm sorry I can't help with that.". I've tried checking for updates on the store and Windows update too. After none of it worked I signed up for Windows Insider hoping that the beta will fix at least something. It can't even launch applications. Please help me figure this out. Thanks.

Hi all, hope everyone is safe and well on this hot and humid day in Japan. I've been thinking about this over the last few days as I was turning off cortana and telemetry/metrics in windows 10 on my work laptop and was wondering if and how much telemetry/metric gathering and cortana will be in windows 11 and will it be able to be disabled completely? Also what is the difference between a local account and logging into your Hotmail account? The get even more out of windows thing? Oh and edge, is it worth using? Cheers all

So guys , Ive had this problem over and over again. Cortana , after I have completely reinstalled windows seems to work for a day or two but after that all the settings seem to disappear. No , I haven't downloaded anything weird just standard stuff like CCleaner and what not maybe Malwarebytes and those are the only two things really. But yeh my cortana settings and the ability to respond to Hey Cortana seems to just disappear. One of the main downloads that I did which I thought maybe killed Cortana was a program called Spybot Anti Beacon , but I restored all my settings to default and it still doesn't work , now im just left with cortana looking like this. Anyway I know its far fetched to post worries about cortana on a page like this but if someone knows what the fix is that would be SMASHING

So with Windows 10 updating Cortana is starting to get more and more useful to the point where I didn't disable it when I reinstalled Windows. The one thing that annoyed me the most though was that it forced you to search with Bing on Microsoft Edge. Unsurprising, but still annoying. Anyway there's a way to get around this and search using the browser and search engine of your choice. Step 1: Download SearchWithMyBrowser from their github page and go through the install process. Step 2: Ask Cortana to search something, instead of bringing up Edge, it should bring up a popup that asks you how to open it, click SearchWithMyBrowser and it should open using your default browser. Step 3: So at this step, Cortana still searches with Bing, in order to change that get Chrometana for any Chromium based browser (Chrome, Vivaldi, Opera, etc), with Firefox, it should already be searching with your preferred search engine. So that's it, I hope you guys found this useful!

Hello, I hope this is not a very nooby question. So I prefer to speak English although I can also speak Chinese, but I live in China. So Cortana answers in Chinese, I still talk to "her" in English though. According to my friend Cortana will only answer in the language of your region, so China in my example. Is this true, and is there a way to make Cortana respond to me in English despite being in China, I know this is probably possible if I VPN to the USA or any other English-speaking country since it probably uses Microsoft online services like Bing, but I would prefer not to do that because I game even though I only have a ThinkPad and having a VPN on 24/7 is also a crappy solution. Thanks for any answers!

I just updated my laptop to this - 2017-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4040724) since then, the speech recognition software and Cortana has stopped listening or recognising speech at all, even those bars for listening sounds doesn't move. FYI - all other mic operations works perfectly like sound recorder, skype, even google voice recog. on chrome. How do I fix it please help...

as some kind of twisted strategy to sell their own smart speakes windows doesnt allow cortana to work with any bluetooth speaker except a harmon kardon one that they are selling. I would really like for someone to help m out here to find a workaround for this

Cnet Looks like a very expensive and useless gadget, but when you will check the sound quality of Harman Kardon systems, you are going to be impressed. It's not just another hyped system like I consider the Beats, for example. Hope this speaker would prove it's quality. I was impressed by Harman Kardon's quality, I've become a fan of HK when I've had old Toshiba Satellite Laptop with Harman Kardon. Unfortunately, I don't have experience with Cortana for me Alexa is great. Would be great to see Alexa-HK tandem. What would your prefer Alexa or Cortana HK? upd. but I'm agree with comments below, that it may be just another one expensive Bluetooth speaker, with such limited skills.

Hey guys! I'm disabled Cortana a while ago and I am trying to re enable it... however I can't seem to find where to do that. When I don't have access to the notebook icon and the only mention of cortana settings don't contain anything useful: Thanks!

I feel like I'm pretty much alone in this regard. I've been using digital assistants for as long as I've been able, mostly because I find it fascinating how close we can get to approximating our own interactions, and whether or not there's a point where assistants will have to deviate to continue being efficiently helpful. But you know what? A lot of people are super mean to them! ;_; I was raised to be polite at all times, and the boyscouts really cemented this ideology in me. Terminator and The Matrix helped me figure out why I should apply that to Digital Assistants. I don't really get frustrated with them because I know they are nothing more than a system of inputs and outputs, capable of little more than comparing lists of commands. Yet, I see a lot of people getting super frustrated with them and shouting profanities at them. My own girlfriend is guilty of this, which is why I have to quickly mute the self-checkout assistant as soon as we start checking out. Her father has wired the whole house to be controlled with Alexa, but both her and her father get really annoyed by it and behave very rudely to it, and I see many other people doing this as well. What makes me uncomfortable and worries me is how this behavior may reflect onto people. Yeah, digital assistants aren't going to fight back or acknowledge your rudeness in any way, but what about people? I'm really worried that this trend will eventually lead to people being rude to human assistants and workers. I also feel bad for the people who put a genuinely high amount of effort into making these devices, and being so dismissive and rude to it feels like treating those people the same way. Does anyone else feel this way?

Hey Smart people I have some problems with Cortana. I live I Denmark and uses the metric system before the latest windows update Cortana work fine with the metric system. now she will not use it, when I ask for a weather update, she gives it to me in Fahrenheit and not in Celsius (this is just one example of her using imperial and not metric). For what I read online I have to change in “clock and region” in the control panel, but it is already on metric. The rest of my pc is using metric like before, it is only Cortana that has change and, in her setting, there are no way of change it. So, my question is: Due any of you have/had the same problem? and how do I fix it? Also, the notebook thing is gone, so I have no idea how I add smart home controls now. Lucky, she did not remove does I had. Thanks for your time and help -Kristian Buckhøj

So here is the problem: I reinstalled Windows 10 yesterday because a lot of features weren't working correctly at all- Mail app was slow, apps were hard to load, and Cortana was having a hard time responding to me. After trying and applying every solution I could find online to address the issue, still nothing. So now after the reinstall, everything works fine, except Cortana. Cortana CAN and always does respond to "Hey Cortana", but anything after that, nothing. So she can hear me, but it's limited to just her start phrase. Can anyone offer any ideas on how to fix this? And yes, I have checked my audio controls and levels, they are fine.

Soure: https://www.androidauthority.com/efficient-virtual-assistant-2018-859875/ Base on this report, Google assistant is the best virtual assistant right now, you might say not surprising. Yep but details are more interesting with this If you take a look at the chart above, You'll see that there is small difference between google assistant on smartphones and google assistant on Google home, but what's more interesting is how bad siri actually is. Only 40% answers attempted ???? which is far below others like google and cortana or even alexa. In terms of fully and correctly answered questions, siri is doing better but it's still dead last which is not good news for those who bought Apple's $350 "Smart" speaker. And for Apple fans out there wanting to say that the sample size was not big enough: They also have a chart which shows how many questions they got wrong and compares them with their last year score: Again, siri is not doing great and it got worse compared to last year, even more interesting, Alexa got a lot worst. Personally i think it's because of it trying to answer more compared to last year. Also cortana is doing great with the lowest percent of wrong answers. Edit: I'm also interested to see Bixby next time and see how it does compared to others. Also i like to note that from my experience, Cortana on windows 10 has some problems with voice recognition and she hear things more wrong than others. I think MS need to work more on their voice to text conversion as well.

Hello guys, As the title says, can I actually disable Cortana?
-
Hi, so I've tried Cortana on Windows 10 before, but I didn't really like it. I decided to give it another chance and try its new features. I know that there are some cool new features and I wanted to try her again, but my Cortana is disabled since last time I had her. I tried searching in the search bar, but when I click "Cortana & Search settings" it just shows me the normal settings that are showing up when you click the settings icon. I tried searching in settings for it, but I got the same results. I searched in YouTube and thee internet overall and I wasn't able to find a problem like mine. If someone knows how to fix this please reply under the post.
