I'll be using my PC fine for hours then once I open the game play for a while and close it I can use apps that are already open but can't open anything new and when I try to shutdown the computer says no and remains on the desktop. So I've only had this happen these two nights in a row so I had to force shutdown with the power button (held not pressed) but tonight my mobo lights didn't turn off.

Hi. I have 2 4070ti's in my system. Every monitoring software I use tells me only one of them is ever be used at once. How do I configure my system to best utilise the 2 cards? My job has me running Blender and Keyshot on a daily basis for around 10 hours a day. Any help would be appreciated.

Yesterday, I booted my pc, after a while of browsing, it turned off suddenly and I immediately turned it on again. The lights were on, the fans were spinning everything seemed to be in order however, after a second of starting up it died and it happened every single time I tried. I started to troubleshoot my pc first in order for me to try and deduce as to which hardware might be at fault, I cleaned the pins for both my gpu and RAMS, unplug and plug the psu cables ensuring them that they are connected, reset CMOS. After doing all these, my pc was able to boot to desktop, however, it died again, and the cycle begin where I am not able to boot normally as it kept on dying after turning on for a few seconds. Take note that there are no overheating errors. I hypothesized that this might have something to do with either the RAMS, PSU, or Motherboard. First, I tried removing each ram trying out different slots, and I've noticed that when I use only on RAM, I am able to boot into desktop and won't crash as frequently, however, this is not the case when I use two RAMS at the same time. Also, the RAM must also be seated at a specific slot before it works. I'm really at my wits end here, I need your help in deducing if this has to do with the motherboard itself or the PSU, or something else. (and sorry for the grammar or there might be words/phrases that can be ambiguous, I'm typing so fast in case my desktop dies on me again :<)

I've read the manual but I don't quite understand where to plug in the USB3.1 that came with the Phanteks Eclipse P600s case. The mobo I'm using is the B660 GAMING X AX DDR4. Heres the link to the manual mb_manual_b660-gaming-x-series_e_1001.pdf (gigabyte.com) Would appreciate if you can tell me if page 14 is the answer to my situation since I'm unsure.

Hello everyone As you can see in one of my last posts I hav oc'd my whole system without major problems. The problem now is whilst an hour of furmark does work without problems, Rocket League on the other hand fails after 5 minutes. I don't get why. Setting down Memory Clock did not help, ramping the Voltage to the max (apparently 1213 mV) does not help either. But as soon as I change to the ASUS standard OC profile everything works fine. Why? Can anyone explain this to me? Any Idea how to fix it? Temps are typically at 74°C after an hour of stresstesting GPU and CPU ath the same time. Thank you beforehand Greetings, Ale

confusion CPU -> RAM Speed compatibility
Brownhorn111 posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So continues the saga of me trying to figure out how technology works. Hello again, I'll try to be brief about this. I am planning to build a strong PC, and I am confused. I have plans to use 3600MHz RAM. However I just noticed.. what in the name of christ does this mean, AMD? System Memory Specification Up to 3200MHz? I'm mighty confused. What CPU out there is compatible with RAM speeds of 3600MHz? Is it more dependant on the MB? Is this spec listed just poorly explained? Am I dumb? What is happening? Cheers, -RalphAlpha111 -
Hello, I have an MSI R9 270 and I am waiting for my PC of choice to be chosen. I am looking around and cleaning the graphics card and I am noticing something resembling rust or corrosion, but I am not sure. And googling around, I cannot confirm what the orange dots/donuts mean. Look at the attached images to see if you see anything wrong and suggest anything helpful. Thanks.

Hey guys, So I recently switched internet providers and upgraded my WiFi service plan to Frontier’s FibreOptic Gig Service which is supposed to deliver ~940Mbps download and ~880Mbps upload. However when I run speed tests on my phone I’m hitting maybe around a third to half of what I should be expecting. The tech who installed the fibre optics box inside my home told me not to use the provided ISP router because it’ll bottleneck the speeds I’m paying for so I bought a new one but I’m still not seeing the speeds I was hoping to achieve. My new router that I bought a few days ago is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 802.11ax Tri-band Gaming Router cause from what I’ve seen it should be more than sufficient for my needs. Besides the very basics I know pretty much nothing about WiFi or what could be bottlenecking my connection to where I’m not receiving the fastest speeds possible. Please help. Some information I don’t understand but may be useful/significant: - Location is Southern California and we have fibre pretty easily available for the most part in my area. - The tech who installed the frontier box said that my neighborhood has “GPON” and he wished we had “XPON” cause I assume it’s better in some way (idk what it does). - The frontier box that was installed (think it’s called an “ONT”) is connected like this: ONT>Ethernet>Coaxial>Ethernet>Router. Don’t know if this is significant in any way but the signal is going through a lot of different kinds of wires so I figured I’d include it. I did three different speed tests with mixed results on my iPhone 12, all taken back to back within 5 feet of my router. I’ve attached screenshots of the result. None of them is anywhere near where I had hoped they’d be. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I haven't had an AMD card for nearly 10 years. I recently bought the 6800 XT, which I later gave to my best mate. It came in the usual retail boxing and dense foam packaging. I ordered the 6900 XT (ASUS reference) and mine came in a plastic postage bag with one layer of bubble wrap, and inside the box, the GPU was held in place with shrink wrap. I've never seen a GPU boxed this way. How on earth can someone store it or sell it on after removing it for the first time? I feel like this might be an OEM box, as I can't see how this could be sold on after use...

So I am building a pc and I´m wondering I am trying to aim for 1080p high details and occasionally some PS/Premier work . Card I was originally going for was EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1660 SUPER SC ULTRA BLACK GAMING - 228€ seemed like a good price , but then i found out that delivery time is 99 days (out of stock) .I need PC now obviously ,so that is not going to make it for me. The closest 1660Super was MSI 1660 SUPER Gaming -250€. I was like it s not worth it ,I found EVGA 1660 Ti for 239€,(I got more confused than i was ), but im thinking now about 1650 Super - 180€ with Crucial MX SSD for 75€ since my build doesn´t have SSD just HDD. If you have some suggestions for parts / cuts that i can make let me know (help me) . PC parts that I d like to have : Ryzen 5 2600 107€ Kingston HyperX Fury 2x8 (3000Mhz) 74€ GIGABYTE B450 Aourus Elite EVGA 650W 80+Gold 72€ Seagate Barracuda 2TB 58€ NZXT H510 68€

Why..? Why the heck Linus? Enough of the exaggeration... Why do you shoot in ProRes, which is easy to edit and post process, he still transcoded the footage to Cineform? Is he just wasting time or something? For footages from GH4, 100 Mbps H264 UHD 29.97 fps, I get it. But for FS700 or FS5? It doesn't make ANY sense to transcode ProRes to Cineform. I guess. Can somebody please explain?

Have not really been posting here much, but the latest honest answers video kind of made me decide to write this. To me LTT has been the main source of general information about anything tech. Not disregarding other tech-channel, but I do think LTT has gone far from the old days. But the topic I want to talk about is the confusion that a viewer experiences whilst watching the videos about tech-related stuff, more specificly; videos about a new CPU/GPU or other PC component and posting results or comparisons between said components. Now I am glad that bitwit actually went ahead and explained the 1% and 0.1% benchmarking. ( LINK ) That's actually really nice general information if someone decides to change the way they bechmark something. But, it doesn't fix anything about a video such a this from being a confusing cluster of madness. For me, from a subjective point of view LTT is really suffering from this. Whilst I do love the hard work the group put into each video, I do think many of them could be divided into parts and try and focus on explaining things in a simpler way. Not saying I'm a toddler who doesn't understand a basics of an excel graph, but... A good presentation of a graphics card and how it performs in a handful of games, to me is much more important, than seeing 5-10 other video-cards compared to it with a massive excel layout that doesn't make sense. It is true that you still need to compare performance of something to something else, but adding more "comparison points" to one video grays out or even confuses to viewer a lot more. For example; I never pause the video during the excel presentations. For one, they go by too fast for me to even get my hand on the spacebar and two, as I said; there's always 5-10 other CPU's or GPU's or whatnot being compared to the main one in the video and finding said component in the list of even 5 is hard, especially if it doesn't sit at the very top. So instead of stuffing all the data you gather into one video. I'd hope LTT would cut the video's into parts like; Gaming benchmark, Video-editing benchmark, Zip-archiving etc... (though the last one might be a bit sort of an video) And really just focus on what they are showing on the video. Another example; "The Asus Hero GTX1080Ti sits right below the GTX Titan XP with, oddly enough; 2FPS defference with some margin of error..." whilst some random diagram goes by in the video, doesn't help me at all as a viewer. Instead, if your script talks about GTX1080Ti, highlight that card in the excel graph and when your script starts to talk about the GTX Titan XP, highlight that one. That's just a very basic idea of how to improve the presentation, especially when you have a larger list of said components to compare to each other. Another example is when people have started to compare testing rigs of AMD vs Intel. Listing ALL the freaking components in the systems. Sure you want the viewer know that these are the same systems overall, but saying all the names in the video is boring to listen to, but also just listing names doesn't prove anything about it being legit or not. But that's a hard one to fix, since I understand people want to atleast see the components in the rigs and see them listed as a WALL OF TEXT on the video. I hope my thoughts about this were clear and I totally understand the "snappier" approach Linus has, but this is just what I've felt recently with especially the release of Ryzen. I think Linus even said it himself that product names/titles are absurdly confusing as it is, so having all of those names/titles in one video doesn't really help all that much.

Hello, LTT Community! I am currently looking to upgrade my prebuilt pc mainly because I can't really afford to build one form scratch so please don't suggest that I do that. The current pc is a Gateway DX4860 with a GTX 950 and a 510w Insignia power supply from Best Buy. The parts that I am looking to buy to upgrade it are SAMSUNG 850 EVO 2.5" 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-75E250B/AM Intel Core i7-4820K 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor - 10 MB - LGA2011 Socket - OEM G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 Power Supply - 80 PLUS Gold - 850W Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard I just wanted to know if there are any issues with compatibility, old hardware, etc... If there is any way that I can make the upgrades even cheaper please let me know. Also, if I install the new motherboard, will that cause any issues (I don't mind re-installing Windows) Thank You

What's the difference between hdr 10 and 10 bit color depth? hdr10 shows 10 bit images, yet i'm not hearing that hdr10 means 10 bit color depth, as in, an hdr10 display can have 10 bit color depth, but doesn't have to. They're separate things. I'm also hearing that some tvs have the hdr10 feature, but lack some functions such as "wide color gamut", and therefore cannot display it properly. Can anyone clarify?

So yesterday I went into my Bios to check that my overclock settings were all correct as i noticed my Asrock settings stated that one of my setting were different to my bios settings but when i went into the bios it had indeed changed so i changed it back my cpu is a 8700k clocked at 4.9ghz with cache ratio set to 4.9 but it was on auto so i set it back but then when i booted into windows the cpu kept running at 800mhz so i set it to default then it ran at normal 4.4ghz then i tried to set my overclock profile back in the bios but then it ran at 800mhz so i reset it to default and it ran at 4.4 again then I flashed the bios and it seemed to work for the overclock but then when I set the voltage from auto to 1.25 and booted it ran at 800mhz so then i tried one of the preset overclocks in the bios and it worked when booting into windows but i do not use the preset as the voltage for 4.7 is at 1.36 and i run at 4.9 with 1.26 so its too hot for my comfort but then i tried my overclock i got the same result as before with it being stuck at 800mhz then i reset to default and it was fine then i tried my overclock again and got the same result but after many attempts of restarting and reapplying my overclock it just randomly started working again and its now back at 4.9 with cache at 4.9 o. 1.25v but im not sure what was causing my issue has anyone else experienced this or know what might have been causing it ?

Hello, Recently after moving cross country (the US that is) I went and tried to boot my trust gaming rig discovered it wouldn't boot into windows! So I did some tinkering around and determined that one of my two NVMe SSD's was dead, the one with windows on it! While I keep a offsite copy of important documents I would like to recover my Witcher 3 save files. So insert more tinkering around and voila! The BIOS recognizes the Windows Installation Manager installed on the supposedly dead drive, so I boot from it and get to a windows error screen stating that it couldn't connect to some device and giving me the error code "0xc000000e". After doing some research on the interwebs I tried a few things, I plugged in a windows installation media I had laying around (it is a Windows 10 Home edition media, whereas I have Windows 10 Pro installed on my PC, does that matter?) Then when launching into the recovery media I did a few things, first used the built in windows repair tool... no luck. Secondly, I went into the command prompt and launched DISKPART to see if the drive is recognized and healthy according to DISKPART and it is! So I follow the advice of some random websites and run the following commands in this order (after exiting diskpart) bootrec/scanos bootrec/fixmbr bootrec/fixboot bootrec/rebuildbcd Well a few issues arouse while doing that. First, 'bootrec/scanos' did not find an install of Windows 10. Secondly, when I ran 'fixboot' it replied 'access is denied' Finally, 'rebuildbcd' as you might have guessed, did not find an install of Windows 10. On the upside, 'fixmbr' theoretically did something. If someone could explain what is going on I would happily buy them one copy of whatever regularly priced game on steam that they want! My poor Witcher 3 saves...

I just switched from console to my pc on overwatch and as of right now my pc has a really crappy gpu (AMD Radeon HD 8490). I am going to get a new GPU, but it disconnects and gives me this symbol (down below). I teleport to the place I was like 5 seconds ago for some reason or everyone freezes. I looked everywhere on the internet for why this shows up and I cant figure out why.

Hello, I am writing out of confusion. About 2 weeks ago, after having many BSODs, I decided to test each of my ram sticks with memtest86. One of the ram had hundreds of errors and so I decided to return it for a replacement as that meant it was broken. After a frickin week of waiting for it to arrive at it's destination, another 5 days pass and voila it's today. The store's technician who is checking the ram to verify that it is broken calls me and tells me that they have found no problems, keep in mind they used memtest86 as that's what I told them to use. That's impossible, I say because I did find errors. But he told me that they tested them together, which didn't make any sense because I also tested them together and found problems, now that I'm writing it I wonder if they he tested them in single channel, idk if that will make a difference but I am just wondering, so I told him to check each one alone and he said he would do that. Anyways, out of fear that I spent 2 weeks in my old slow laptop for nothing, I searched what happens if I have a bad dimm slot. None of the "symptoms" applied to my case. I am just wondering if they are scamming me or I am wrong.
