I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I feel like sharing my story/grievances to the tech community. I think this can save some stress and deep seething frustration from potential buyers, by of course steering them as far away from this PC builder as humanly possible. TL;DR: included at the bottom of both stories. ------------------------------------------------------------ PART I ------------------------------------------------------------ XoticPC is one of those companies that makes custom desktops and laptops, kind of like iBUYPOWER but with a much better selection of laptops. In fact I originally was gonna buy from iBP, but since I wanted a powerful laptop and very few places actually sold the MSI GE76 Raider with a GTX 3080 at the time, I found myself at XoticPC’s doorstep. Ultimately I ended up buying a much different laptop from XoticPC, this one was by Sager and it was priced at a good $4k. Yes, I have my reasons for buying an expensive desktop replacement laptop, but this isn’t what my post is about. XoticPC was supposed to customize it and perform quality tests on it before they shipped it out, of course when I got it the first thing I saw right off the bat is the screen shipped with a dead pixel. It was stuck ON too, so it was incredibly noticeable if the game even got slightly dem. Whatever, super annoying but not unheard of, so I did what any reasonable person would do. I wanted to see if my laptop had some warranty covering the dead pixel, so I emailed XoticPC and this is what they had to say: “Typically” isn’t really a yes or no, and they made no mention of their 30 day return policy either. So I ended up contacting Sager, who just bounced me back to XoticPC. I tried messaging XoticPC some more because I didn’t see anywhere that Sager specified any defect related to the screen, so I pressed again and my messages went ignored. After a while XoticPC finally got around to contacting Sager about the warranty, which Sager had finally confirmed they didn’t cover a dead pixel. Ok … Now I finally know for sure what is actually covered, but wait … that took exactly 31 days to find out anything about my warranty! I figured since I have been contacting XoticPC, they would be cool and give me some leeway. NO! So I had to threaten them with a chargeback, which made them cave. They just couldn’t take a refund though, only an exchange. At this point I wanted nothing to do with XoticPC but I reluctantly accepted it since I felt like I had little choice, worse yet, the laptop I bought no longer had the config I wanted. My laptop spent almost a month in RMA, and I was finally fed up with XoticPC because I am paying $4k for a worse config, and it just seethed and bothered me. Well I ended up getting my wisdom teeth pulled, and I finally felt pissed off enough I straight up threatened with a lawsuit if they didn’t just refund me! I told them I was talking to my attorney. They bought my bluff, and within minutes of my angry emails and BBB submission they finally confirmed my refund … WHY DID I HAVE TO MAKE THREATS TO ACHIEVE THAT!? I got out, but barely! Don’t do this to yourself … just go elsewhere. The story ain’t over though … You might think I am just a one off incident, and all those BBB reviews I linked to must be outliers … Wrong! Those reviews are the NORM for XoticPC. My brother also ran into messed up problems with XoticPC over a similarly priced PC, his was even more BASIC than mine! TL;DR: Don’t order from XoticPC, they will stall communications as much as possible, even if that means hiding warranty information until you can no longer use their return policy. Only way to fix it and get your money back is to threaten them with a lawsuit. ------------------------------------------------------------ PART II ------------------------------------------------------------ My brother ordered a laptop through XoticPC, and his laptop was on backorder for months. He moved into his new house, and just to be sure he won't lose his place in the order queue he called up XoticPC to change his shipping address. All good, right? They ship his laptop to his old address, they don’t require a signature, and he can’t reroute it to a safe location. He asked XoticPC why he couldn’t reroute the laptop, and why it didn’t require a signature, they simply told him they didn’t know. So he gets XoticPC to return the laptop, it sits at their office for a week before they ship it again. It's shipped to the right address, but my brother & I are truck drivers, none of our packages can go to the house, we are almost never home. So they ship a $4k laptop, to an unoccupied residence, without a signature, and he STILL can’t reroute it! Luckily I was home at the time because I just finished getting teeth yanked out of my skull, so I had to take my miserable Advil loaded butt to his home and secure his laptop so it wouldn’t be stolen by porch pirates. That right there is what really pissed me off, and finally got me to yell at XoticPC enough to get my refund. We will NEVER order from XoticPC again. It might work for those who get their PC and nothing is wrong with it, but the minute something goes wrong and you have to rely on XoticPC to actually DO something, good luck. TL;DR: XoticPC couldn’t do basic shipping. They shipped to the wrong address first, which caused the laptop to sit for a week. They had no idea why THEY restricted the laptop to be safely rerouted & held, and without requiring a signature on a $4k machine! Just to do it TWICE but with the correct address! I once bought something worth $300 from someone else and not only did the company call me, they asked me if I wanted to require a signature! Why can’t XoticPC do this!? That's all I gotta say. Run. Run very far away when you see the XoticPC logo ...

Budget (including currency) : 2000-2800 € Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Triple a end indie games, Vtube studio, Office Suite, and Adobe Indesign (maybe) Other details I'm going to use this build for gaming, to get into streaming (vtubing) and light productivity work. Sorry for the language but I thought this was the best way to show you. I'll be using this built with two 144hz monitors I bought previously. This will be a clean slate for me because what I have now is a Frankenstein setup with a MacBook Pro. I'm ordering it it from alternate because I think that's the most well-known option in the Netherlands and I can't build myself. I thought about ordering the parts and paying someone else from a shop near me to assemble but I like having the warranty they offer with systems that they assemble. Plus they're configurator tests compatibility automatically. Is there anything that seems terribly unbalanced or out of wack? This is also my attempt to create a little bit of a Performance headroom and I tried to future proof it for like 3 to 4 year's. Might replace something like peripherals quicker than that. In addition I'll be getting a Logitech C920s - HD Pro Webcam and Silvergear Bluetooth Touchpad from bol.com. Anything streaming specific like a mic I'll get a bit later. But recommendations for that are also appreciated. Regarding case fans I didn't really know how many of them to get. The case description told me that there's room for 8 additional 120 mm fans or 5 140 mm fans. Should I just max that out? I'm going to call them about this tomorrow. I'll be ordering it somewhere this or next week.

Hi LTT community, Hope everyone is well in this time of crisis (as of April 6th 2020) Today, I’m reaching out for help on something I’ve been wanting to do for a while and that a couple of you might have done in the past. For the better part of the last 5 years, I’ve gained a lot of interest in computers and electronics. I watched hundreds of hours of footage from BitWit to HardwareCanucks and of course LTT. The reason why I am mentioning this is because I think I’ve learned a lot of things and that I’m ready to use this knowledge to help others. Of course I don’t know everything and you can always learn a thing, but I’m confident that I can now use it for something. So here goes my idea. I really want to start a side-gig. I would essentially offer PC building services from components research and gathering to building and maintenance. I’m reaching out because I want to know if any of you has done it, is currently doing it or wants to do it. This could be a topic where we could share knowledge and experiences. Of course, I came with a few questions in mind: 1. Can it be profitable? 2. Where should I post my ad? (Ex. FB marketplace, Kijiji, website) 3. What’s the best way to do this? (How do I charge? Do I buy from manufacturers or retailers? If you have any other tips, go ahead!) 4. Do you need to have building experience to start? Thank you everyone, Let the conversation... begin! -Philipp

I am hoping for some feed back on my build. Had some extra cash come in because of the company I work for got bought, and as a thank you the old owners gave everyone a bonus. Anyways. On to the Build. But I'm hoping this will last for awhile and wont need to much over the next couple of years. Bought it to mainly work on a invention I have in mind, and am using it to run my 3D printer. Also a hand full of games. Like CoD: MW WareZone, Apex Legends, GTAV, Ring of Elysium, PubG, CS:GO, Quake Champions, and MineCraft. Would really like to know what you all think. And any pointers on where to go from here. Thanks.

Hi guys, I am looking forward to buy a new PSU as mine, the one I am currently using, got itself placed in D Tier from the .new PSU Tier List. I am currently using a Xilence Performance C 500W, paired with gtx 1060 and fx 8300 3,3 Ghz. Long story short, I stumbled upon Jonnyguru's forum/ review about this one particular PSU and had interest on it. Some of those who helped me in Reddit also encouraged me to visit the site and take my time there to decide on a new PSU. It is a Riotoro Builder Edition 600W 80+ White, and overall Jonny gave the PSU a 8.2 out of 10 - and it is cheap here too in Germany. The review can be found here, although he reviewed the 500W version, not the 600W. There is no listing of this specific PSU model in the PSU Tier List, although some of the models of Riotoro is listed in Tier A and Tier B. But I know that we shouldnt judge a PSU by their brands because each model is different from each other. So my questions are ; 1) Are his reviews trustworthy, as in good for a long run? 2) Will there be any difference between the 500W and 600W PSU, as JonnyGuru only reviews the 500W version? 3) As a side note, I will attach the product's official website here. Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone, I am in the process of starting a new business renting out my own camera gear when I don't use it. The primary way I want to rent out my gear is online through a website. As this is probably not going to make much money from the start I am wanting to start out with a website building service like SquareSpace, Shopify or Wix which is affordable. From my research into those three services, none of them have features to do native equipment booking and rentals, only e-commerce (to my knowledge). I was wondering if anyone knew of a service like SquareSpace, Shopify or Wix which gives you a great looking website without having to pay a developer, as well as giving all the features I would need to get started, primarily item booking at checkout. If you need any more information then let me know. Thanks in advance, Matt.

Hey! I'm fairly new to the Linus Tech Tips forums, so I'll just get straight on to the point. I'm under the budget of $350 (Including shipping), and I would like to see what the best upgrade could be for my Pre-Built System (Yes, I know, very shameful-- bought the system when I barely knew the difference between a CPU and GPU a few years ago), which would be an HP Pavilion 500-164 Desktop. I haven't upgraded it before. Specs: -AMD A8-6500 APU (3.5GHz - Fits in an FM2 socket) and a stock cooler -Integrated Graphics -MOBO: MSI MS-7778 (JasmineR) -8 GB of Generic Ram -A 2TB HDD (Western Digital, I believe?) -A 300W no-name brand PSU -One fan (I don't know how fans work but I'm assuming it is an outtake fan) My Circumstances: Yes, though I do have a very tight budget, my primary criteria is to get the best performance I can get for the price, as I am trying to future-proof the system for 2-3 years for 1080p, Medium-to-high level gaming. Since I also live in one of the hottest rooms of the house, I'm trying to have a couple of fans in the system (There is little wind and our temperatures reach the 95°F temperature almost daily). Could we also squeeze in a case, if possible? I'm worried that all of the purchasing will go to waste without a good case. I was thinking I could get a GTX 1060 3GB model for under $200 (US), with a 430 W power supply, and a DIYPC DIY-N8 case, but that leaves no space for fans. Since I can't squeeze in fans, should I downgrade the GPU to something like the GTX950 and leave more space for other upgrades? Please help! I'm overwhelmed in this situation! Thank You.

This winter I'm hoping to purchase parts for my new pc and have them built. If anyone around the central Pennsylvania area is qualified to put together this PC comment back. I would like to keep your services around $200. Here is a link to the PC. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/Rw2t8K

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fFs8M8 So I am a first time builder, but I have always been pretty good with technology. However, the more I research the more I see how different people's opinions are on various components and builds. So I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on my build so far and also recommend a GPU for video editing and emulation (Wii, Ps2,...). I am not a professional in film making, but I would like to edit my short films with ease and have a rig that can keep up for when I do eventually get better and use better equipment. Thanks for reading!

Hey guys I'm a first time builder and I'm really excited to do this. I don't personally care about any companies I just want the "most bang for my buck". I would like a nice looking case if possible (it doesn't have to be amazing I just don't want it to look like a cardboard box). 1. Budget & Location 1600$ budget, might go higher but if it's not too much. I'm from Canada and i don't plan on using any of the old parts of my computer since I'm giving it to my little brother. 2. Aim I want to be able to play games such as the new Tom Clancy: The Division, Farcry Primal and other games of the sort. I'm also going to be doing some 3D animation at some point but it's not urgent. 3. Monitors At the moment I only have 1 monitor, but I'm considering a second one. 4. Peripherals I have a keyboard, mouse and monitor. I am going to need an OS. 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm upgrading because the computer I have at the moment doesn't have the performance I'm looking for anymore since it can't run most of the stuff I want it to because of the outdated parts. Thanks for helping me! I greatly appreciate it.

You could call it a hobby of mine, but I love to make pc builds, setups, etc. I use pcpartpicker.com. If you would like for me to make a setup/pc build for you, just reply! Make sure to leave this in your reply, so I have a better idea of your needs. -Budget -PC Build or Setup? -If it's a setup, do you want a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals included in the part list? -What's your favorite color? -What kind of PC case do you like? Big, small, minimalistic, lots of LEDs, etc. -Any other notes that you would like to leave for me? I would try to reply ASAP. Here is my pcpartpicker profile if you would like to see one of the many builds I put together for friends, myself, family, etc. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/KidChaos/saved/ Thanks for using me as your resource for making a part list! From what I understand linustechtips uses Invision Power Suite. I've done some research and the only comparable service I can find is VanillaForums. I don't see a lot of the features that IP.Suite has on VanillaForums and for some reason it is way more expensive. IPS seems to be working well for Linus so what do you guys think, and suggestions?

Hi there Linus community. I'm a 17 year old builder from Nelson BC who has some computers to build but neither of my clients are able to order any parts. Therefor I am going to vancouver to visit my good old pal NCIX. I currently have nowhere to stay and would not really enjoy staying in a hotel. So if anyone has space for 2 on the 14th and 15th of March(this weekend) or knows of anywhere I could possibly stay while I build 2 client PCs you would be a savior. I am fairly easy to get along with so is my companion for this trip, we are open to any ideas or beliefs and are both gamers so we can talk shop about games or computers if you wanted to. If you want anymore information on me or know of anywhere we could possibly stay, please feel free to contact me on any of the following. League of Legends>NA:Splash Bottles Email: Gutyr999@gmail.com<< Skype:Splash.Bottles Or just by commenting below. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you for looking at this post and have a wonderful Day/Night

Hey guys I'd love to build my own custom 8 core PC for gaming. I'm a College student so I don't have loads of money however I'd say the most I'd spend is about £1000 ($1591.68) If I'd I need to spend a little more than the amount then I will haha. I was thinking about water cooling but I'm not sure tbh. I'm currently a Mac user (don't hate me lol I like Windows as well) so I've never really built my own PC before but I know since Linus has his tutorials that are simple on YouTube. This is going to be a AMD build since a 8 core CPU from AMD is like £125 and Intel 8 core CPU is like £1200. I'm thinking about using the NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case. I'm not sure what other components to use and I'd love to be able to run my game across 3 monitors. Could you please come up with the hardware that match my needs please? Thanks guys

A friend of mine bought a CyberPower PC (against my advice) and we have found it has a few issues. The CPU is an AMD FX overclocked to 4.52GHz, with an AIO liquid cooler (120mm rad). It was running very hot, so he replaced the cooler (with one sent from CyberPower and with their permission) and it improved slightly. We then replaced the fans on the radiator and the temps improved again. I came to do a stress test with Prime95 and the temperature started to increase very fast, but then several of the cores stopped testing due to 100 "invalid checksum" errors. The CPU runs way too hot and crashes when rendering video. I have not tested the cooler. I would love to hear from someone who has had experience with CyberPower PCs whether you think their CPU OC testing is good enough. Is it possible that the CPU is defective and we did not notice until now (over 6 months)? Could it be heat causing instability, or a bad OC causing heat? Many thanks, FizzyFantom.
