  2. Back in the day I had a Pentium 4 gaming PC that I drop a few grand to build. It was top notch. 3.2ghz prescott, fx5950, about ic7, water-coolled, the works. I miss that system and have been wanting a retro gaming PC. So why not rebuild the Pentium 4 system? Yeah let's dump money into a dead poorly aged platform that a cheap potato phone could even out preform. So let's dive in to the parts list. Some of witch I still have from the. OG build. Abit ai7 motherboard. 865 chip set with pat support. 3ghz prescott cpu. Modern ssd. Fx5950 256mb. 512mb ddr ram. Gpu, north bridge and cpu water cooled. D5 pump because D4s are impossible to find. Sound blaster live for dos support. 98se with 98lite. For the water cooling I'll be using a modem d5 pump, I happen to have one and the d4 pumps form back in the day don't seem to be available anymore. I have the original 80mm rads along with a modem 360mm that was fitted into the case a few years ago, I should be able to fit some rather low RPM fans into the system given all rad space. The OG setup only had 2 80mm rads so adding a 360mm to the mix will improve cooling by a lot. I have some parts on order so do come back as I'll be updating the thread as things happen with the build.
  3. Impact 15 Meters of Thunderbolt 3 fiber optics, a 4U chassis and high airflow cooling. Day 1 Noctua hardware has arrived Day 2 Custom front panel for Silverstone RM42 (made by a good friend of mine! Thanks Lukas!) Day 3 Custom front panel for Silverstone RM42 is finished, almost... (need to do a few adjustements with the Dremel) Day 4 Finished the front panel and mounted the Noctua fans Day 5 Bought some rails Day 6 The build is "finished"
  4. Hello! Long ass post, sorry. Why did I post something so long as my first post? First time caller, long time listener, and just made an account finally to show off my very first attempt at making something 'mine'. All of this took about 4 weeks, over the summer. Lightly-Edited Thermaltake Core V20 Fans: Intake: 2x Noctua NF-A14 CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15s (I think s) with 2x Arctic P14 PWM PST CO (Edited to actually include the cooler) Exhaust: Core V20 Stock, TT-2030 200mm ROG Strix x570 Gaming-i, with no NVME storage yet, just 4 sata drives. 2200g with some free 2400 ram, to be upgraded to a 5800x+ CPU and some trident cl14-15 if I can find some, 2x8gb My old GTX 780 DirectCUII 3gb, to be upgraded to probably a 3080 or a 6800 when they're widely available, in strix flavor I'd think, their coolers seem to be like, on-purpose. I like over-eningeering. Thermaltake 850w fully modular ATX (right term?) PSU, that is compatible with anything I'll need it for. Ideas: Intake a bunch of air, use the GPU to somewhat contain it's air, build static pressure in the case, vertical flow, cpu and GPU exhaust up into exhaust 200mm fan. Now, some questions, does that big of a hole preclude any SP in the case? Does SP only really apply for CLC anymore, or do modern air coolers and fans make up the difference? Does sectioning off the GPU air from the CPU air better make a difference in fan control/customization/care/we else (the GPu comes pretty close to the window, and the 140 intake on the left mostly goes into the gpu area, creating a column for the gpu fans to intake from, but if that intake fan is blowing the air away too fast, is that aiding or hindering cooling?) heh, I think too much, but I kinda want to design a case out of all these questions/answers. I have a few sketchups, scrawlings of a pandemic-mind. The Madness to the Method: First, The 200mm fan wasn't in the correct area, so I gouged out a bigger, and new, hole for the fan to sit in. My friend Jake came over, responsibly masked, and we build a frikkin computer. He did the vast majority, I'm clearly an ideas-guy, but I learned enough to be dangerous on my own. We build my last computer together, and it was fitting. So the computer was great, and I was wondering if there was any benefit to putting the CPU cooler basically AS the intake. I watched a video of Steve's (not upside-down Steve, sorry) where he reviewed a 200mm CLC rad. I REALLY WANT THIS TO BE A THING, for CPU intakes in these cases. Anyway, my question here would be, does a CPU benefit from having a direct from outside intake, or is the rest of the case dynamics prepping the airflow to be better for cooling? "It depends", I'm sure. Here, you see its on some wooden blocks. I took my daughter out to a construction recycler here in Portland, they reuse old dimensional lumber, real 2x4, so I got one of those and used that wood for the feet. It gives you slivers if you so much as look at it, its horrible, and they don't attach to the case at all. I had to hollow out holes for all 8 thumbscrews for the sidepanels, so in order to maintain it I have to set it off of those on its back and remove each panel, bleh. I wish It had an L shaped back+bottom that everything but fans attached to, and those could-do with a cable to my fan-splitter with a tempered-glass door on the side... muahaha... oh yes, it will be mine... So then I planned... My wife was worried. On my way home I topped by a helpful place and got only 3 tools for my entire task. Okay, so I needed to fabricate a motherboard tray, and so I cut it out of the back of the case. This let me rivet it to the box I showed in the sketchup drawing earlier. I needed a sense-check to make sure the cord 90/angle adapters would have clearance. I'm mostly just hoping they do here. This poor case... Bottom left and the right hand picture include about 10 hours of work. No joke, it wasn't aligned at all when I first did it so when I tried to attach the motherboard It was bending too much and there were some nasty angles... Ugh. So then I rebuilt it much better, more deliberate bends and rivets, and the whole thing is WAY more secure, so that's good. Over-engineer it. Here, you see the intake and the exhaust in-line with each other. I really want to make that a thing in any future ideas I have. The cabling in the back is a nightmere. So, since the MB io panel is inside the case, i have to pull extenders through the back of the case where I cut out a few pieces of the case holes there. I really like the whole design but this needs a more elegant solution, especially since its just below the fan, and could induce undue turb. ]Trying my best to do my Friend Jake right with my cabling. The whole case with everything is north of 30 lbs lol. If you stitch these two pictures together, thats the intake. Its two side-panel fan intakes from some business-class salvage and the hole to metal ratio isn't in my favor. I need a designed back-panel if i'm to do it again, which I REALLY want to. Here it is in its near and final form. The red looks handsome with the black, but I am a panda through-and-through. Last, My worry. I'm' going to need a bigger boa-case if I'm to upgrade my GPU. The dimensions just aren't realistic. So, I actually wouldn't mind trying to make a protocase kit, but I would be way over my head on it. I could use the same ideas to prototype some of this and all.. I've been wondering this as a what-else-am-I-gonna-do-hug-my-kid? Any thoughts you have are appreciate. The best thing about this is that, visually, it isn't messed up in any way or form Its on its back, and the cords stick out of the back, and its on wooden stilts that don't attach to it (but have plenty of ground clearance, per Steve). I really wish there was a case that allowed for dimensions that were dual-purpose instead of thinking of them as dual use. Like, have a taller (up from cpu) area there for the AIO yeah, but then also allow for the full width of an AIO up from the MB components so that you don't mess up the airflow around the CPU cooler. One thing I wonder with mine, is that there are such gaps for air to go around the cooler that I don't think its optimized yet, again like the GPU. It would be cool if there could be a silicone flap inside that would rest against an unseen part of the cooler to seal it off. Anywho, I've been playing around with the ram to practice for my new toys. I'm definitely having fun with my late night Frankenstein sessions in my bios. Have fun everyone, and stay well. Sorry you just read that whole thing, ugh. Don't blame me if you hated it.

See, a totally normal dell dimension. No i7, no gaming graphics cards.
  6. Yea so as the title clearly states it, I've bought some new parts! \o/ Yesterday, on Sunday evening here, I ordered my case, which is the Corsair Graphite Series 780T Black/Red , it should arrive within the week. And today, I bought my PSU which is the Cooler Master Vanguard V700 Bit of an overkill on the PSU at the moment, as my estimated wattage on the parts I've chosen are under 400W but you never know if I wanna go for couple of more GPUs f.e. ;) Also I bought some case fans! Got a couple of Corsair AF120 Quiet edition @ 1100rpm,21dBA I think I'll buy a third one of these when I buy the GPU in a week or two. A quick look inside the boxes! The Corsair fans come with changeable outer rings, in the package you can only see the red one, but inside the box are a white, and a blue ring too. Additionally, a little bag with 4 screws and a 3-pin adapter. The ring is really easy to change, by flexing the ring towards the center of the fan, it pops out fair easily. The corners of the fan look and feel really sturdy, and I'm pretty sure the rubberized corners mostly cut out the vibration of the fan. I plugged in one these badboys to my current PC, and man, this thing sucks! Which is perfect as it'll be one of the four exhaust fans on my build! :D Opening up the Cooler Master V700 PSU! Man, Cooler Master really put some style in this! After removing the outer box, I discovered another sturdier cardboard box with a simple Cooler Master logo on the top. But after looking in this box, man was I surprised. After removing the soft foam, theres a felt bag with the unit in it, and next to it is the 12V power cable, and another nylon bag with all the cables in it! Packed with style, I really really like it! As the PSU is fully modular, here is a list of the quality looking, all-black cables! 1 x M/B 20+4 pin 1 x CPU 4+4 pin 4 x PCI-e 6+2 pin 9 x SATA 4 x Peripheral 1 x Floppy Money spent on 30th of November and 1st of December : 383,70€ Total money spent on December 1st : 931,40€
  7. Hey y'all! After years of dreaming about building my own PC, and watching countless LTT videos, I've finally built my first PC. Technically built this in mid-2021, but never got around to posting about it until now haha. Being in India, PC part prices are MUCH higher than in the US, so that might explain why the specs don't quite match up to the price tag haha. Anyways, here are the specs. Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Motherboard: ASUS Prime B450M-A II RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3000Mhz (8x2) GPU: Asus ROG Strix 1070 (Used) Storage: Crucial P2 1TB PCIe M.2 Power Supply: Silverstone Viva 650 Bronze Bronze Case: Deepcool Matrexx 40 Fans: Ant eSports Superflow 120 (x3) Monitor: ViewSonic XG2405 24" 1080p 144Hz Keyboard: Redragon K552 RGB (Outemu Blue Switches) Mouse: Regragon M606 I've very creatively named this build "IceStorm" since, uhm, the white / cyan RGB lighting looks good on it, lol. Here's a lil' highlight reel I shot of the build! Hope Y'all enjoy :")

I'm in the midst of designing and building a custom-loop water-cooled desk PC. I had been planning this build for a couple of years and was partially inspired by a build online (https://voltcave.com/setup/mamodified/). The plan is to have a clean looking white custom loop water-cooled system built into the left-top drawer (with false-bottom for cable management), the desk itself will be modified to include a viewing window cut into the wood above, back air outflow and flush USB port access (Desk_V1.9.skp). Earlier this year (2022) I stumbled across a (free) desk in need of restoration (Desk_1.png), after this discovery I decided to use it as my build's ‘bones’ and have since been using Google SketchUp to plan and iterate the design (Desk_V1.9.skp). I am still building the prototype (Drawer-Prototype_1.png) which has brought about multiple design changes (including a deeper drawer, different corners, etc.). Whilst I plan on this being a long build, especially as I have never (custom-loop) water cooled a system before, let alone built the case around it, I still plan on re-building the draw as many times as it takes before I purchase the final (more obsolete sensitive) parts (including the GPU, Motherboard, Ram, and CPU.) 10. I apologize in advance for drastic lighting changes in the pictures. I have been stubborn in using my camera in manual mode only and as such my inexperience shows. My brother's laptop died. That's gotta be one of the more common reasons why we PC builders end up making a custom PC for my family. Since the laptop was already quite old, with a Core 2 Duo and DDR2 RAM, I proposed a complete computer update that my brother could use for homework and some games for quite a while. Then when I started planning for my brother's computer, @Comic_Sans_MS suggested that I give my brother my i3 and take the chance to upgrade my CPU. So I did, and after some frustrating price hunting for cheap LGA 1155 motherboards, I finally am able to call this log complete. On to the parts list then. CPU: Intel Core i3-2100. This CPU served me well for 5 years, and it shall serve my brother now. Cooling: Arctic Freezer 11 LP. $15. I gotta say, I'm quite impressed by this little cooler. Keeps the i3 at 65C under AIDA64, at minimum fan speed. Motherboard: Intel DZ68DB. $35 on Ebay. A steal to be honest, the BIOS is a bit meager but it does the job. RAM: 4GB Samsung. Gifted by a friend. Should upgrade to 8GB soon but for now it will do. GPU: GTX 650 Ti. Another hand-down, it should be enough for his games at 900p. Storage: ADATA SP550 120GB. $45. Gotta snatch one before flash prices go up up up. Also his 500GB laptop drive. PSU: Antec Basiq BP350 (The FSP one). $28. The cheapest thing I could find on tier 5 or up. @STRMfrmXMN I think the reason why mine is pretty silent whereas yours was loud af, is maybe you got the CWT BP350, and I got the FSP one (mine has no PFC, ewww). Case: Some cheap shit for $4. It actually didn't come with motherboard standoffs, so I had to engineer my way into a motherboard mounting mechanism. (cfr pictures) TOTAL Spent: $127. Equivalent after currency exchange rates. Really not bad for the kind of computer that my brother got, but the hand-me-downs helped a looooot. WARNING: Large pictures (5184x3888) Below. The Arctic Freezer 11 LP really doesn't look that bad. The mounting mechanism is probably the cheapest thing, just two plastic bars with push pins. Unfortunately I wasn't able to hide the double molex to 6-pin adapter. I know what I'm doing, I swear! The 650 Ti actually still has the idle fan off feature that I gave it through a modded BIOS. Some case pics. First, a look at it bare, then a look at the mounting mechanism for the motherboard, then a full build. Case steel was as thin as it gets, the motherboard is tougher than its tray and that concerns me, but I'll leave it be for now and maybe stamp a fragile sticker into the thing. Obligatory PSU shot The SSD says hi! Thanks for giving this build log a read! I hope you liked it. @deXxterlab97 Any time I work with blue PCB I feel like tagging you is mantadory.

  13. The goal is simple. Downsize, upgrade, make it look fantastic, keep it really cheap, build it with superior materials, pack in as much power as possible, leave room to upgrade, and use it to leave my female counterparts totally smitten. It also has to fit the aesthetic of a new house I haven't moved into, and be all available for delivery to my house in the remote wilderness of Ireland. Like I said simple. ---- Goals ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My current build is in my signature, it's bugging me. It's been evolving in bits and pieces for almost 8 years now, the design ethos was: "whatever works, whenever there's money". Nice as that is, and although I picked up some very good deals for sheer price to performance my platform is now outdated and frankly - it really doesn't look that appealing, alongside starting to chug like an old turf chimney. Here she is lit up in white, for visibility - not strikingly pretty anyway.. So much unused space, so poorly spaced out Forgive me community, for I have sinned... My list of visual ailments is likely familiar to any builder ailed by lacking funds and not much desire to work on his own rig: Cable management is akin to Medusa's straightening routine in effort invested and effect achieved. The power supply is exposed, and totally un-modular, I do like my plugs thick and my ports plugged, but not like this. The plastic window is scratched and dusty, a little warped and genuinely unappealing, although I can relate I don't want it on my desk. The CPU cooler is unfortunately large, it might look better with a fuller PC but in such a small frame it's almost cartoonish. I have some sympathy for that state of affairs, but still. My GPU looks goofy, and out of place, neither fitting the theme neither being in suitable proportion with the rest of my componentry. There's so much free space, yet I find the case too large. I could live with this a while longer if it wasn't starting to slow down a lot in daily use - that's gaming, video editing, never closing 100000 chrome tabs and virtual machines. It's time for an upgrade. With Ryzen around the corner I seized all the assets I could (1000 euro) and set to designing something that appeases the following goals A downsizing, any downsizing is good but I did want to go mATX. This is the only area in which I have failed, moving to a smaller ATX case instead. I aim to minimize empty space. Very clean, industrial design with straight lines and plain panels, a premium, professional seeming colors - pleasing interior proportions and reasonably low noise output. A clear improvement in performance, and an affordable path to significant upgrades in the future, without having to swap out components or negatively impact its aesthetic value High quality materials and avoiding the gaudy at all costs, tempered glass is a big element of that for me because I find the cheap plastic windows abhorrent ---- Part selection and rationale ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Case The very first component choice to enter the battleground was the case, I wanted smaller than my Fractal Design Define S, but was almost totally set on a tempered glass window. I also needed cheap, go figure.. Due to needing a lot of IO in my life, it's probably better that I bought an ATX board. So that left me with: Small, cheap, ATX case, complete with a tempered glass window and clean design. Y'all can probably guess where I went from here - The NZXT S340 Elite. At a whopping 14% less elongated than my Define S, while being slightly taller and equally deep, I've most surely failed with a serious downsize - as frustrating as this is the S340 Elite ticks every other box. It's beautiful, clean, well built, generously endowed with a fantastic tempered glass window and enough space to fit any future upgrades while not being excessively large. I love the sheer cleanliness of this case, so sleek, so uniform, a great interior layout - and best of all? I can get it for 99 euro over at http://www.komplett.ie/nzxt-s340-elite-zwart/80045367/details.aspx?channel_code=1199&s2m_product_id=80045367&utm_source=adwords-shopping&gclid=CN-fvKPws9ICFaK87QodaRoMaA Motherboard, CPU, Cooler, and RAM The most important component of this build is the CPU as it's the part I'm least likely to upgrade. I want to grab a platform, and stay with it - but my budget most certainly does not lend itself to picking up totl chips. The Ryzen release was the deciding factor in this long awaited rebuild, not out of brand loyalty but out of sheer price/performance juiciness. I got a great deal on my FX8350 and have seen generation after generation of gradual performance increase from Intel - not something dreadfully appealing to those of us strapped for cash. The R7 1700 is perfect for my approach. With the full 8 cores and 16 threads of it's bigger siblings I would speculate that its value will practically multiply with a good overclock, which does leave one a little dependent on the silicone lottery, but with the value presented that's a risk I can take. It's also bundled with the Wraith Cooler which.. I know I have a nice cooler as is but for the ease of transfer, and cost considerations, I plan to use for the first little while of the new computer's life. At some point I will purchase an AIO to fit to it and that's when I'll attempt a decent overclock, but with the Wraiths thermal and acoustic performance with the 125w Bulldozer chips I'm sure it can handle the 65w R7 1700 perfectly. In terms of motherboard, I'll be waiting for the first few reviews of X370 ATX boards before making a decision but it'll be among the cheapest few - I currently have earmarked the Gigabyte AX370 GAMING K3. Deciding factors will be aesthetics and included I/O - pray for me y'all For RAM there's an amazing Prime Deal right now selling a 16GB kit of Crucial Ballistix DDR4 Memory for 82.62 Euro GPU As I was resolute on purchasing the aforementioned components, I new that the rest of my search would revolve around squeezing as much money out for a graphics card as I could. I found the XFX Radeon RX480 8GB with the reference cooler going for a poultry 245.83 euro at https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01H3P9CKI/?tag=pcp0f-21 . Especially after the continued software improvements for the 480 it makes for a slightly better value proposition than the GTX1080, and furthermore I fully plan on buying and equipping a second when budget allows. The clean and mostly (aside from the Radeon logo that is) neutral look to the blower-style RX480 will fit in wonderfully with my build and I have no problem going SLI despite the consensus towards getting a better performing single card as my budget simply won't allow for that right now. PSU The PSU was an easy choice, fully modular, any form of 80+ certified 500+watt PSU. I was able to find the EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550w Fully Modular power supply from https://www.cclonline.com/product/182244/220-GS-0550-V3/Power-Supplies/EVGA-SuperNOVA-550SW-GS-Power-Supply-Unit-80-PLUS-Gold/PSU0897/?siteID=8BacdVP0GFs-ykpLCm8Gqfdai458AeeaEw for 93.82 euro. It can even remain hidden beneath that lovely shroud on the S340 Elite. Other Parts Storage, Fans, and my RGB controller will all be coming, thankfully, from my current build, leaving me around 70 euro above my stated budget, which I'm sure I can find from somewhere ----Fin, for now--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It may be two or three weeks before I can order these parts but the money has been set aside and the build will soon move forward! This build ought to be cheap, powerful and beautiful with plenty of room for future expansion. If anybody has any thoughts or comments on where I should take this please let me know! Eagerly awaiting any response Ya boi, King of Hip Hop, Tadgh
  14. can anyone help me in building a rig for CAD and animation rendering and little bit CS go within $750 . I will mainly you work on Maxon Cinema 4D, Autodesk Maya, 3DS Max, Substance painter and other Adobe software. thanks guys.
  15. Well, I made a build log a few months ago about putting my components into an Evolv ATX TG. Due to the cases size restrictions for what I wanted to accomplish in it, I decided to get rid of the case. I waited patiently for the Lian Li PC-O11 to release and finally picked it up. So, it's become about transferring components to the case and assembling it. So, let's get into it. Components: Intel Core i7-6950X 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum ASUS Rampage 5 Edition 10 Intel 730 series 480GB Western Digital Black 6TB SLI NVidia GTX 1080 Corsair RM1000X Custom EKWB watercooling loop 6x LTT Edition Noctua NF-F12's, with black Chromax vibration dampers Cablemod sleeved cables Nanoxia aluminum cable combs As the build is right now, it's working very well. I plan to upgrade to 64GB of RAM sooner or later. I'm also going to try and get something like the new 960 Pro 2TB NVMe drive. There will be some mods, such as changing the panels to a sandblasted silver aluminum look, custom glass panels, some out of the ordinary tubing, and some smaller case mods. So, this was the mess that I started with on the test bench, waiting for the release of the PC-O11. The first thing you'll notice with the PC-O11 is the sheer amount of room. The motherboard in here is an E-ATX motherboard, and it looks almost small inside the case. This is after installing one of the two EK PE 360's I'll be using in this build. This one is obviously the top mounted one. There's a nifty little spot for 2.5" drives to be mounted and show-cased. I'm not sure if I'll keep the drive there, as it might be a pain to route cabling to it. The rear panel is where drives and the PSU mount. I may put acoustic/sound dampening foam in this area to minimize noise, and I may mount my pump and reservoir in this area too. It has a really sizeable CPU cutout area as well. And here's a preview with the two GPU's installed, as well as the cabling comb, and the current cables. I might switch to all black cables.

  17. I wanted a small case without a window that looks very neat and premium. As I couldn't find such a thing and i had a little time to spend, I thought why not build one myself. Wood is very easy to work with (you can just glue everything together), looks amazing and isn't too expensive. I really like the looks of the dark wood combined with matte metal. Here are some pictures: nearly finished case first design on the left, later design on the right (sketchup) final design interieur layout, gpu not shown for better visibility. the cables come out the top. Both the top panel and the rear panel are removable. The first for accessing all the I/O ports on the motherboard / GPU, the latter for maintenance. Moving on with some pictures of the building process: front I/O cutouts with recesses (made with a dremel), for (top to bottom): headphone jack, microphone jack, 2x USB3.0, vandal on / off switch bottom panel with cutout and recess for the SFX power supply. It draws air from the buttom and exhausts it out of the left side. Motherboard tray mounted to the side panel. The two rails were used from an old case, mounted to an aluminum sheet. All of the inside was coated with a layer of graphite "paint" and earthed (EMI protection) Thats the top panel with the motherboard cutout. On the top theres the reset switch and the HDD LED (not visible from the front) and a fan grill. Thats the finished build from the back. The back panel holds on with 2 magnets to the metal brackets. The fan was mounted on the CPU heatsink in pull, so that there's no problem exhausting the air out of the back (since there are no more fans). A plastic shroud prevents the hot PSU air from circulating inside the case. The SSD is mounted with velcro underneath all of those cables. The PSU is (kind of ghetto-) mounted so that it's decoupled from the case, since wood would amplify and vibrations. There are dust filters on all the intake perforated metal shields (bottom) The system is extremely quiet (inaudible for me over the very quiet hissing of my speakers). Well guess what, i wont be gaming on it, i wanted a quiet, stylish office / media / browsing the web kind of pc. If i would want to play some games i can add something like a 1050ti later. I know as well that a Z motherboard is kind of useless with a non-K SKU CPU, it was the only decent available here... 18. Hi there, this is my first post on this site and In thought I would start off with my h440 build. I have various mods that I am going to work on in the coming weeks, Including a full custom water cooling loop and a custom front panel. I have a few other bits and bobs like getting a new power supply so I can get sleeved cables easily as my current one is basically impossible, this will allow me to clean all my cables up a bit better ( as extensions make it a mess). Also custom painting a few components.Specs:Hero Maximus viig1 gaming 10806700kevga g1 650w2 kingston 240gb ssd2tb wd blackcorsair h115i16gb corsair veng ram So currently running this build, Below I have 2 drawings outlining a couple of my plans as previously mentioned. So below is my planned parts list, please let me know if you would recommend anything else or have any helpful suggestions.EKWB EK-XRES 100 Revo D5 pump/res2x 360m ek coolstream radsEK supremacy Evo cpu blockEk G1 1080 block and backplateprimochill flexi red tubingEk 1/2 inch fittings and a ball valve drain port at the lowest pointCorsair sp120s This is the rough layout for front panel I want to do. As in pic I want the 3 front fans outside of the main section of the chassis sitting inside the front panel (checked clearance already). Also as mentioned it will sitting right on the border or slightly over the edge of the red ring on the corsair fans. I am undecided on what to use as the material to fill the gap with. I have a few options including using modders mesh then somehow fitting as dust filter behind, using some custom dust filter to fill the gaping hole or somehow reuse the including nzxt dust filter. So these are my plans, please feel free to give me any feedback on my plans. Also help me with a name!!Peace!!
  19. So this was my first try liquid cooling a PC. My original rig was pretty good: ASUS Z97-A Intel Core i7-4790S (w/ stock cooler) 16GB (2x8) Corsair Ballistix DDR3 ASUS Strix GTX 970 Corsair CX650 Samsung 850 Evo 256GB Seagate Baraccuda 2TB HDD Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K Some TPLink PCI-E Wifi card It works great. When I built it in February of 2015, it was a good "bang for the buck" build in my opinion (I spent ~$1000 USD). I originally built this system in a Thermaltake Urban T21: This case worked nicely for me. A few months later, I moved to Cleveland, Ohio to start college. The dorms suck here. The main problem was heat. The dorm building has NO COOLING whatsoever. In August and September, temperatures reached nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit... which is not good for having a gaming rig - especially if that rig only has 1 case fan. In December, I decided to make an investment into a new case. I decided on the Thermaltake Core P3. This case is great if you want to do some major cooling project... which is not what I was planning. I picked it because it looks pretty cool, and is completely open, allowing for excellent cooling. This feature, unfortunately led to incredible amounts of dust accumulating on the components. So I decided a compromise must be made. I would pick a more restrictive case, but liquid cool the darn thing. My budget was VERY limited. I had $100 to buy a case and AIO cooler. I ended up with a pretty common case - the Corsair Carbide SPEC-02, and a Corsair H55. I was able to transplant the components from the Thermaltake case to the new Corsair case pretty quickly (despite a few of the Thermaltake standoffs becoming stripped and not unscrewing from the motherboard screws... thanks hand saw). It only took me about an hour to put everything into the new case, and learn how to install an AIO cooler. Like I said previously (and in the title of this post), this was my first time doing this. Take a look at a work in progress pic of the build. The Seagate 2TB drive never made it into this build (it died in early February). In its place, I use an external Seagate 3TB USB 3.0 HDD that I got on Amazon (using the LTT Referral Link of course!). So how did this whole project end? Very well. The thing POSTed on my first try (after forgetting the surge protector was turned off... *derp*). Though it may not be the PC Master Race Epitome of RGB, it still looks pretty chill with its red fan led (it compliments the Strix design quite nicely). And pardon the cables - there's not much cable management opportunity in a dorm room. Thanks for reading through my build log/story thing guys! If you want me to post more stuff like this, PLEASE ASK ME! I'd like to try to participate in this forum more...
  20. Hello! I had a pretty dodgy setup- it was my PC I took over from the UK to Australia in my suitcase in bits. I put it together in a prototyping kit not a proper case. I reached a point where I was too nervous that I would accidentally spill something in the open case and it was getting very dusty! Rather than buying a case I decided to embark on the journey of building my own case! (Well modding one) Processor: i5 4670k Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97 HD3 RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM GPU: MSI Nvidia GTX 970 CPU cooling: Corsair water cooling 240mm Rad. Storage: 500GB Harddrive + 3x SSD PSU: 650w Corsair Case: custom build This is my case pre build- it was super dusty and just very ghetto- So initially I bought 6 second hand cases from ebay for $6. It turned out 5 of the 6 were wrecked- all rusted and just so outdated! So I threw them away. But one was an old Coolermaster case- a bit worn and old but I decided to use it as my base. I stripped down the case removing the black panelling leaving the metal base. Stripped down the case entirely and began to sand down the metal ready for a fresh coat of paint. I didn't need the hard-drive cage in there anymore; as it was an older case the hard-drive cage was riveted into the case. I had to drill out the rivets so I could remove the cage, drilling out rivets is surprisingly difficult but with perseverance comes results! Painting: Started with a silver basecoat Then I gave the case a fresh coat of black paint- ran into issues with the paint dripping down the case and layers of old paint sticking to the top of the case. Almost ran out of paint but got it done! My radiator was too dusty! Spent a while cleaning all the old parts! Started putting together the pieces into the case- not worrying about cable management so I could check it all works fine and I haven't broken anything! Got this huge heatsink from china which I stuck on my GPU as a backplate with some thermal pads Got some custom plexiglass panels cut for the side panels and interior of the case. Once I was sure all the panels fit properly I tested the case worked. Everything worked perfectly so I put in all the panels and the build was done! The panels are attached with little velcro tabs- you can't see them, they are a cheap option and they are very strong holding the panels in place! So the case is completed! I think it is a big improvement from the start- it roughly took maybe 6-8 hours of work. Cost wise was about $150AUD in materials. Pros- -As it is a custom build I could make a custom basement and have all the panels the exact sizes I wanted -Was enjoyable to build -easy to remove panels and inner plexi sections -Scratch resistant and tough Cons- -Plexi collects dust like a magnet -For the cost you can buy a cheap case instead -Time element of having to complete the work. Tell me what you think!
  21. 5-21-17 Update I got the new fan controller and fans for the front of the case and I took out the mount for the extra HDD cage and I put a 120mm fan I had laying on my shelf in the bottom along with mounting a dust filter on that fan. I also have did some tuning and adjusted the fan curves and cooling on the system. I also moved my 120mm Noctua LTT edition fan from the front of the case to be a second fan on my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo when I added the 2 new fans in the front which are Corsair ML120 fans. The bottom fan is a slim Thermaltake fan with a blue LED in it I just used it because it was whatever I had spare sitting on my shelf. I'm currently waiting on a side panel window to arrive and after that comes I may start to add some LEDs for some cool lighting. What do you guys thing I should do for lighting? If any of you have any tips or comments don't be afraid to say it I'm open to suggestions and tips for future upgrades and stuff for the machine. 23. Linus since you have made your mineral oil pc log in 2014 I have wanted to make one. Now that my computer need upgrades I want to do it but Puget doesn't sell the case anymore. That's why you should build another one to show people how to make this pc without the Puget case that we can't buy now.
  24. Hello all, I have decided to start a project, and wanted to document it somewhere, so where better than the Linus Forums? I have done some basic research and I think it is possible to hit my budget and do some light gaming on the machine. A little back story on the build; I play games on my gaming pc and my xbox one quite often, and my gf would like something that she can play on occasionally too and doesn't want to spend crazy money on something that only gets used when we both want to play at the same time. I've already got a monitor and decent peripherals for her. Just need the tower. This build is currently in the research stage and I've got a deal that I can take on a EVGA GTX 960 SCC 4GB for $150(bit pricey for that card for me, but its through a friend so I don't want to haggle too much) and I think that might be a front runner but would consume a vast amount of my budget and I feel like it would just get bottle necked by the rest of the build anyway. I have been thinking about following in the steps of a recent build Linus has done about using server hardware to get cheap CPU's and stuff for under $150. What are your thoughts on that? The most hardware intense game I think she will be running is Rust(Maybe) and mostly simple games that require little to know hardware to run. Thanks for reading and I'll keep you updated Any advise or recommendations aside from SPEND MOAR MONEY is welcome Budget: $~300 USD
  25. I am planning to establish a Gaming Lounge in my location with 20 units (14 PCs + 3 Xboxs + 3 PlayStations). My budget for per PC including monitor and all the peripherals would be around 80K - 1 Lac ( Appx 1500 USD), also note the components will be on the expensive side in Indian market compare to US market. Now am little confused with what configuration I should go ahead. Also I am not sure for monitors as I am not sure which will be the perfect size for gamers in the lounge, I am confused will 24 inches or 27 inches monitor. My lounge will be targeting professional gamers as customers. So, the most played game would be DOTA 2 and GS GO. However, there will many other customers who will be playing other high end games as well. So, please provide me some suggestions. To sum it up, My Requirements; Most Played games Dota 2 and CS GO. Other high end games will also be in high demand. Future proof for let says 5yrs (Not sure if possible). with minor upgrades. Competitive playable experience to survive with competitions. Best display size. I want to build PC with black and orange color theme. Case when assembled should look appealing One should get addicted to the lounge if they love little bit of gaming. Point to note I will be charging around 65 rupees per hour (1 USD), which is low compare to other gaming lounge as they charge around 100 - 80 rupees (1.5 USD). If someone can provide any suggestion regarding gaming lounge, it will most appreciated. Also, I request you Linus to please look into once. HELP LINUS@LinusTech!!!
