Stuck and confused on PCI-e lane counting, as some forums seem to have misleading info for other builders. (I got a little concerned when mention of sata ports will no longer be usable - so I thought I'd ask some experts for my case) I am building an X99 i7-6800k rig for video editing (no gaming). Gigabyte Phoenix SLI mobo Samsung 960 EVO NVME on m.2 GTX 1070 Maybe Sata 3 - SSD, like 850 evo Maybe Sata 3 - HDD, WD black --- maybe even 2 of them -- and occasionally an external esata or USB 3.0 drive (even a flash drive here and there) x1 card from motu maybe a firewire card Gigabyte Phoenix comes packed with a lot of stuff - like 2 NICs, Wireless, USB 3.1, etc, etc. I will initially disable what i don't need from the bios - but at some point, it may get used -- but I guess need to understand limits here. my guess is 16 lanes to GPU, 4 lanes to SSD, 1 lane for MOTU card, 1 lane to Firewire, and 4 lanes to DMI x99? that puts it 26 lanes out of 28. Am I counting that correctly or am I way off? (sorry can't find any reliable info or articles in my searches) I am assuming Sata 3 is all off of x99, so I don't need to count that separately - and but i don't even know if you could it as a lane or what? Sounds like I should be operational and there is no need to go to 6850k, just for more lanes. Looking forward to some input (sorry if this is a dumb question, but i just became confused - i've not worked Nvme before and z170 it seems chipset offers more lanes) Thanks

Since the news came out of the brand new Intel chips, the Broadwell-E 6800K is now down to about $340, which is were Kaby Lake was at the beginning of the year. With that price drop, and the fact that x99 already supports quad-channel ram for those that would use it. Would people think the 6800K has become a viable option once again?

Does anyone know if a E5-2690 v4 supports XMP with Corsair DDR4 3000Mhz? I currently have it set to 2133mhz which is what the BIOS detected but anytime I switch it to XMP the PC restarts with an Overclock error. I even tried clocking it at 2400Mhz but there it wont even boot. Anyone have experience with this. The motherboard I am using is an MSI X99A SLI Plus.

I am currently running my i7-6850k at 4.2Ghz with 1.25 Volts. I am curious to see how far I can push the chip. How many volts can I throw at my 6850k? I know these chips rarely can get above 4.3-4.4, but my temps are great. I want to go for 4.5. I have a H100i V2 I also have a EVGA Micro 2 ( not the best overclocking board, but I like small PCs ) Thanks!

So basically the current CPU marketflow is mostly inviting the idea of "more cores = better" To avoid myself in getting tempted to buy the i9 the question I want to put up here is: Who is gonna benefit from more than 6 cores on a CPU? And very interesting would be some valid data where it shows that most games only optimize 4 cores/8 threads. Thy opinion plus data please! (I could turn this into a poll if I got a nice selection of answers)

hi community, would someone please explain to me what the difference is between broadwell-e and haswell-e? Which is better for overclocking and power consumption? I'm looking at the i7 5820k and the i7 6800k. There's no big difference between these two chips so why the price gap?

Hi, I've overlocked my Broadwell-e 6850k to 4.3GHz @ 1.351V And this is the stability test in AIDA64 for almost 40 minutes. No crashes but some little throttling warning (3%) Is that ok? Max temp was 82º in one of the cores. What do you think? Should I try to reduce voltage even more? For cooling I have a Corsair H115i

Well clever title aside I do need some advice. First time I actually have a larger budget to build a pc and have been exploring options in high end cpus. I'm stuck as to which I want to lean towards though. Not a fan of SLI or Crossfire cards for the gpu side of things but would like a few extra drives to hold some storage for games, videos, ect. What cpu would you guys recommend as a good base to build off? I was eyeing a skylake i7 but the deeper I dig i am starting to shy away from z170 as the x99 platform offers better growing room with more pcie lanes. I only really upgrade the cpu every 5 or so years so would having the extra cores expand the lifespan? I do read a lot of stuff saying dx12 and vulcan will take advantage of extra cores. Or should I get the skylake i7?

Hello, I recently got a 6850k, however, it never reaches maximum clock during certain operations, it is currently stable at 4.4ghz. That being said, if I run Aida64's FPU test, the multiplier only goes up to 4.1ghz at max, while temperatures are in the high 40s and low 50s, that being said, if I do a simple CPU stress test, I can get 4.4ghz. Unfortunately, I do a considerable amount of rendering, while rendering video, I only reach 4.1ghz again. My friend has a 5820k and he does not run into this issue so I am curious what is going on. For other information my build is as such: EVGA x99 Classified Intel 6850k (Water cooled twin 140mm fans) EVGA 1200 watt PSU 2 x Nvidia 980ti 950 nvme drive 512 GB 850 pro 512 GB an assortment of other disk based drives for archived storage Any help is greatly appreciated, Sincerely, Jake

Hello fellow overclockers. My pc is overclocked as possible... except for the RAM I'm running my Kingston Predator (HX430C15PB3K2/32) memory at standard 3000 mhz. Timings are 15-17-17-36 2T. Voltage is 1.35. Should I go into overclocking and is it even worth trying? Will I see any performance gain at all? Should I buy two more sticks for quad-channel? I'm running intel x99 asus system with 6850k.

Hello, I am trying to overclock my i7 6800k to what I thought to be an easy 4.0-4.2ghz. My friends and I have tried all sort of combinations but can not get anything to post. Instantly get a blank screen and the only way to get back in to BIOS is to press the Clear CMOS button on the back of the motherboard. Hear are some of the examples we have tried. Combos: Change Multipliers: CPU-40 & Cache-34, VCore 1.3, CPU Load Level: 3 ( lvl 1 meaning highest or disable, and lvl 5 meaning lowest). Leaving BCLK & DRAM to stock ( 100 & 2133). Activated XMP, Automatically changes BCLK to 120, which also gives me the native dram frequency for my memory @ 3200. CPU x34 & Cache x34, VCore 1.3, & Load Level 3 Turned off XMP but changed frequency to 3200. Leave everything else stock (BCLK: 100.00, CPU: x34, Cache: x28, VCore: Auto) System CPU Intel i7 Broadwell-E 6800k Motherboard Asrock X99 Extreme4 ATX RAM GSkill Ripjaws4 16GB DDR4 3200 GPU EVGA GTX 1080 SC Case Rosewill Throne Storage Seagate 1TB Hybrid & Samsung NVMe M.2 960 Evo 500GB PSU Corsair AX760 Fully Modular Display(s) Dell S2716DG 27" GSync 144Hz Cooling Corsair H105 Keyboard Drevo 72 RGB Wireless Mouse Corsair Dark Sound Pioneer 5.1 channel Surround Sound Operating System Windows 10

I picked up a 6800k and a x99 Gigabyte Designare EX for 350 USD, is that a good price or have I made a mistake. I plan on using the quad channel memory and it is not suppose to be gaming orriented at all. I plan on streaming and rendering videos as well. I am going to pair it with a 1080/ti haven't decided yet. I wanted to get into the 6 core and up side of things. My buddy was selling it to me because he upgraded to a 7850x. He only bought it 3 months ago for more then double that price. Should I have gone a different route? Btw another quick question why is DDR4 so ludicrous at the moment? I do plan on overclocking it as well should I do a custom water loop or should I just stick with an AIO? Is the 6800k going to obsolete with in the next 2 - 3 years?

Hey guys, I need help, so I recently just upgraded my boot drive to a 500 GB 960 Evo from a HyperX 120GB SSD on my current rig (three days ago) and I'm noticing a lot of hang-ups/ several delayed responses/non-responsive software. How do I fix this? For Reference, I tried firing up GTA 5 for the first time since install, and the game has severe stuttering. Even though its the only game I installed on the NVMe drive. Also my task manager becomes unresponsive when trying to close it out. P.S. Also just started using one of the UEFI suggested overclock speeds. Well this is my first x99 build and hopefully my only x99 build. I went with the 6800k because let's face it, it's the most logical Broadwell-E CPU to get. 200 dollars more to get .2 GHz isn't really worth it imo. I went with the MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon because it was in stock when I bought the parts that I needed. It was between the MSI board or the Asus ROG Strix board. Only reason I wanted the Asus board was for the built in WiFi but I didn't really like the RGB lights on the PCI-E lanes. I chose the EVGA 980 ti because it was out of my old build and I still have time to use their step-up program. I plan on getting the 1080 Hybrid when that releases. 32 gb of HyperX 2133 because it's black and I think it looks good. I went with the NZXT Kraken x61 because I dont have the money to do a custom loop. That is in the plans though . I threw in a Samsung 850 EVO 500gb that was being unused in another build as well as 1tb of WD Black. The case I chose was the NZXT H440 because I like the minimalistic look of it.

The 5820k is $100 cheaper than the 6800k. I was wondering if the $100 for the upgrade is worth it?. I will be doing video editing at 1080 60fps, and gaming at 4k. What do you think is a better choice?

I realize Tom's Hardware has a page up about it, but I was thinking maybe their chip was poorly binned. I'd like to see what you guys are managing to get the 6800k up to. (Yes I realize it's still a bit early but I'm impatient.)

So I was browsing through YouTube, curious to see what kind of PCs they were using. On a particular channel though, when I clicked the link for the site (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/) it at first seemed normal. Then, I headed into the configurator just to see what I could find, when this little option appeared-(http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/). From that X99 section, you have the full range of Broadwell-E CPUs that aren't even released to the public as of yet fully listed. Although I'm not entirely certain if this is already known, I decided in case it wasn't to post it

Anandtech has posted their review of Broadwell-E and it seems like the top processor is listed for a whoppig 1700 bucks, even more than what people expected. http://www.anandtech.com/show/10337/the-intel-broadwell-e-review-core-i7-6950x-6900k-6850k-and-6800k-tested-up-to-10-cores

That is if I can even get my hands on a 6800k on the launch date and not have to wait for an extra month for restocking. I'm really hoping the IPC will match the 6700k and perform the same in games, but I guess we'll see in due time. I plan on overclocking it to 4.2ghz so that probably won't matter anyway.... I'm really sick of having a computer from 2012, haha .

Hi y'all. Does anyone have a good answer about the release date for Broadwell-E? I've heard from many sources that it will be at Computex Taipei, though nowhere has explained exactly when, or how I could watch the press release. Thanks,

Looks like someone decided to post the list before May 30th! But I am not complaining at all! We have new 6, 8, and 10-core options! For more info visit the VideoCardz web site. http://videocardz.com/60515/dont-click Yeah, it says "Don't Click", but it's all good.
