The digital volume control built into Windows (10 and 11), does it affect the sound quality? If your device does not have an analog volume knob (potentiometer), does decreasing the Win volume from 100 lower the sound quality? I mean, does it affect the sampling rate (frequency), bit depth, dynamic response, etc? Is it better to use something like Equalizer APO with Peace to control the volume by changing the pre-amplification and holding the Win volume at 100? Let's assume the hardware uses 24bit 48kHz or higher. Modern.

audio quality Sound Quality is the total opposite on 2 difrent PC'S
rogerthat2k4 posted a topic in Audio
Hi my name is Roger, and I've got a question about a new Gaming Headset I bought recently. So about 2 days ago my new Logitech G Pro X Wireless arrived and I ofcourse tested it right away. I first tried music which sounded fine didn't notice any problems very enjoyable. then after I tried games and the first one I tried was VALORANT and right away when I was in the lobby I already was hearing a massive difference but not in a good way the audio was 1. very bassy and 2. not very clear, it sounded very quiet to say the least I find it hard to describe but it was for sure not normal I thought. then after I went into a game of deathmatch and once again noticed a big difference but not in a good way, it sounded very bad like shit quality it was very bassy again which made it hard to keep a lot of sounds apart. and compared to my old headset it was certainly not good quality compared to my new one which is the one I have now. before this headset I owned a Hyper X Cloud Flight and it was an amazing headset for the time I had it. So back to the point. I went to a friend today to let him test my headset for quality of sound and how they fit him on the head. and before hand I told him the audio was very bad in my opinion significantly worse compared to my old one and he found that weird because it is such a good headset + its very pricy. So with me telling him that he tested it out and he told me it was not that bad so I was like let me try it. and it indeed did not sound bad it sounded clear and not bassy at all like I experienced it on my PC it was the quality I would expect from a headset like this. so I was wondering why is that a thing it sounds garbage on my PC but on his it sounds so good and sounds how its supposed to. And now im here wondering why my 200$ headset has completely difrent quality on 2 difrent PC's. i hope some one is able to help me because this sure is not worth 200$ if I'm not able to fix it As some background information. I do not have any Equalizers installed or weird settings on. Just default windows 10 sound settings. and this is the same for my friend no weird settings turned on at all. Again I hope some one knows why this is happening because its very weird to me that this is possible, that the sound quality is so far apart on 2 difrent PC's that are not that difrent. Best regards Roger. PS. Sorry if my spelling is not to good English is not my native language I tried my best- 7 replies

Hey all, I have a pair of nice Bluetooth headphones that are great for casually playing games/listening to music. However if I need to get on a discord call with my bros, the moment the headphones open the mic up the sound quality over BT becomes utter garbage. I was wondering if anyone knew of something like a wireless mic that can be stuck to the side of these things to use, or if such a thing even exists at all, thanks

Everyone says that most wired headphones cheaper than Sony's flagship wireless headphones, sounds better. I just want to know "how cheap?". You could find wired headphones starting from 20$. So which is the most bang for the buck?

I'm playing Kingdom Come Deliverance (KCD) and I'm using Nvidia shadowplay to capture / record in the game. Sometimes the audio quality in the video is completely normal, other times it is completely airfried. it's 50-50. I don't have bad audio when playing. It is only in the recordings / videos. I have no idea why. KCD seems to be the only game affected by this. Haven't found anything on google. Win 10 64, GTX 1070, i7 7700k, 16 GB.

I bought a tp-link USB Bluetooth adapter from Amazon (Amazon product link) and connected my Galaxy Buds to my PC. However the audio quality is less then decent, it's stuck in 1 channel 16 bit 8000Hz mode with no other options. (My galaxy buds are fine when I connect to my phone.) Is this an issue with the adapter? I think I'm on the latest drivers, although I'm not completely sure.

The free program FXSound for Windows 10 is amazing. It significantly improves sound quality for music and gaming, and well compensates for the mediocre sound chips in most motherboards. Each setting can only be set up to +5 in the free version (rather than up to +10 in the paid version), but you don't need to put the settings too high. My preferred settings. Fidelity: 5 is perfect for me. Too low sounds flat. Too high sounds tinny. Ambience: 4. Too much ambience can wash out the individual sounds, so I never go over 5. 3D Surround: 2. More for quiet songs but keep it low for loud songs. Dynamic: 4-5 is the best sweetspot. It makes the most difference of all the settings. Bass: Song dependent. 0 if the song has loud bass. But up to 7 0 for songs with loud bass. Up to 6 for songs with quiet bass. https://www.fxsound.com/webapps/download I'm rarely this impressed by freeware. This is a must-have for most PC's. I can't go back to vanilla.

When I first plugged in my dac, I was able to set the audio to like 32bit, 96000Hz. Now, after installing some Realtek Drivers from my motherboard manufacturer's website, it only goes as far as 24bit. I'd kinda like the 32bit back, even though I probably couldn't hear a difference. But more so, I want to know why this happened. I'm very curious since I don't see how Realtek drivers could affect something they aren't driving. DAC: FX-audio X6

Hi all, I have been trying to sort out my audio set ups recently and have noticed with my PC the audio seems to be getting worse over time. I am using the Sennheiser HD4.40BTs with the audio wire for on my PC and in both the front and rear ports for my motherboard the audio sounds very flat with very little base, trying to tune the audio through MSI's new Nahimic 2 Software through the Microsoft store just makes the audio sound flatter and muffled. So I decided to plug in the AKG headphones I got with my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which sound amazing for me through my phone, they still sound flat even with tuning on the PC. I also have tried to use the Sennheiser headphones on bluetooth mode and it just sounds worse (as i expected). Can anyone advise on what sort of solution I can do in this situation? Please forgive bad terminology or anything like that I am not an expert in audio or anything I just want to listen to music with a nice strong bass and good mids and highs.

Does plugging your headphones into the USB port instead of a 3.5mm jack give your better sound quality? This guy pitches the argument with good reason.......YES! Basically routing audio out of virtually any device through a USB Type-A or Type-C port into a dedicated quality audio DAC (instead of the default integrated DAC/3.5mm jack) will give you measurably better output sound quality than through the included headphone jack. It also dawned on me after watching this video that maybe the gradual death of 3.5mm jacks in phones might not be so bad after all if getting truly great audio means investing in either a USB DAC dongle and/or good headphones. Thoughts? If any of this lit within you an interest in audio hardware I recommend watching the video all the way through!

I'm looking for a new phone and with the headphone jack being dropped by seemingly everyone lately, I wanted to know what kind of audio quality I would be getting if I used a dongle as opposed to a normal 3.5mm jack. I've heard there are both active and passive adapters and some passive adapters only work on some phones. I already have a couple of decent pairs of headphones that have 3.5mm connections (Monster iSport Victory wired for the gym and Sennheiser HD 598SE for other situations). Normally I just plug them into my phone and use the default Google music player on my phone and it sounds good. I've tried a dongle in the past to convert a straight plug to angled and my audio quality dropped substantially. I just want to know if I am going to notice a difference if I use one of these USB-C to 3.5mm Dongles and if there are some dongles that are better than others. Any help would be appreciated!

So I noticed the terrible distortion on Linus's voice in the recent covering of Computex, which is completely fixable, even when it's just a bad recording. In the attachments, you will find a small sample of the original (clipped) audio, and the same sample 'declipped'. The difference is pretty noticeable: the declipped version lacks the 'crackling' on loud syllables ('headset') To achieve this, I used the declipper function of a program called "Stereo Tool". There is a demo on this page, and the tool itself can be found here. Clipped Sample.wav Declipped Sample.wav

Hi folks. Question for you guys. Between my tv shows, movies, music, and apps, my iTunes folder is about 150gb in size. If I use the compression option in the file explorer on my PC, will there be a loss in quality in my files? I know there is usually a loss in fidelity when you compress audio and video files. But going this route, does the same loss in quality apply?

So I just got a new computer and I finally decided to listen to some much with my Razer Kraken Pros and noticed that the quality was way better than if I plugged it into my phone. Now the only thing I can think of is my motherboard a Gigabyte z170X gaming 7 being the reason its better but why? Full volume on the computer distorts the music but at 50 it sounds great but i can turn it up all the way on my phone no problem no distortions. Let me clarify at 50 percent on my computer is way louder than full on my phone. So why is this im not complaining but are people buying expensive headphones for there phones when actually they are a lot better on a pc if you have the right motherboard cause my old motherboard was not like this but it was a cheap one. So if someone wants to explain id appreciate it

I finished building my first PC a while ago, and was quite pleased with the result, with the exception of my motherboard having been bent, resulting in me not being able to install the IO shield. I later purchased a pair of AKG K40s, as well as a Modmic - both of which having analog audio cables that I connected directly to my motherboards IO ports. However, I noticed that the sound quality of the headphones didn't really match that of the identical pair I tried in the store that I bought them in. People that I voice chatted with also noted that there was quite a bit of noise coming from my microphone (I later made test recordings with it to verify), which seemed strange to me since I had prior to the purchase listened to audio recordings from it, which sounded fine. I then figured that the problem may lie in my bent motherboard, and/or it's lack of an IO shield, since analog audio gets easily affected by electromagnetic noise. I'm wondering if this is the case, and if buying for example a USB DAC would solve the problem.

So pretty much as you can tell I'm not an audiophile. I was going to get better speakers until I realized that if I get slightly cheaper speakers I could get the hyperX cloud 1 instead of siberia v2 which from what I've read there MUCH better. So I have listed these speakers. Which would be the best bang for your buck option. I will use them for watching videos and sometimes gaming I rarely listen to music on my computer. If music quality is a concern then pretty much modern pop music is what I listen to. (Not sure if that means I like bass or treble or what) So it came down to these. Logitech Z150 Logitech Z213 Logitech Z313 Creative t3150 Please post which you think would be the best buy. Thank you.

Hello guys, i'm just starting on the Audio World and need some advice from you guys. As you can see i just bought a headphone recently which is Takstar HI2050 and i'm quiet satisfied with that. But i just felt like there is something missing, like this headphone might do better than this kinda feeling. So i decided to move on from the Onboard Audio because i know that's crappy. And wanted to find some external sound card (DAC/DAC+AMP) for my headphone. FYI. I wanted to do some recording, and decided to buy some Audio Interface too. The Sound Card/Audio Interface that i had in mind was : Fiio e10k, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, Steinberg CI2+ The problem is that many people said that Audio Interface DAC is not as good as a standalone DAC like : Fiio e10k or JDS Labs O2+ODACC is this true? +Fiio e10k got Headphone Amp built in it too, which is might increase overall performance of my headphone too. So the conclusion is : 1. Should i just buy Fiio e10k for my headphone, use it as the playback device, and buy an Audio Interface later for my recording devices? 2. or Just buy an Audio Interface and use it as the recording and playback device for my headphone too and be happy with that? P.S : Please correct me if i'm wrong, i'm still just a newbie after all Thank you.

Hi Linus Media group and Forum members, I've been a avid watcher of the Techtips and Techquickie YouTube channels and over the years I have come to find that you are a pretty big fan of sound quality and high resolution audio. On to the question at hand, my father recently forward me an e-mail containing and Kickstarter for what essentially looks to be a mobile device DAC! Pretty cool I think, they have one for Android (Lollipop exclusive) and one for Apple devices, I don't know if there are any competing product out there like this yet and I'd be interested in getting better sound out of my mobile devices. The company looks legit and the product seems promising but I'd be interested in your feedback! Thank for reading this and your much appreciated feedback. I had enough of this marketing heap, claiming that this so called "separated section" for motherboard`s onboard audio makes a difference in sound quality. If everyone knew how electronics work, people would not be fooled so easily. But not everyone knows, so motherboard manufacturers take advantage of this situation. A PC is a very "noisy" environment for audio. Don`t be fooled, a cutout trace and a little shield for the decoder does not improve sound quality! The onboard sound decoder chip still shares the same power and other connections with the motherboard thus it is still susceptible to noise and other high frequency interference generated by different components located on the motherboard. A cutout trace here and there does not help! The only solution is to move the audio decoding outside the PC, so the decoder only shares the digital output, and in most cases it`s even better for the decoder or DAC (however you like to call it) to receive power from an external power source, and not to be powered by the USB port. If someone can prove me wrong, then I would take my tophat of for that person.

Hi, currently I own a Razer Tiamet 2.2 headset. I love it, but one earcup occasionally does not work, and the microphone is broken. So, I was looking for a new gaming headset, I'm not much of an audio freak, but do appreciate good audio. Since I use a headset for gaming, I value nice surrond sound and a good mic then overall sound quality per say, but good audio quality is a must. My price range is 100-200 USD. Right now I'm leaning towards either a Mad Catz F.R.E.Q 7, Razer Tiamet 7.1 Elite, or a Steelseris Siberia V2 Elite, but I'm free to any suggestions. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
