I originally posted this on reddit under /r/homelab and /r/pfsense with no response to either.. So imma ask here! So ive been trying to get my offbranded intel i225v (b3) nic to work (At All!) under pfsense 22.01.. There was nothing I could do to make the installation see the NIC.. I finally got it working, but i am interested if anyone else has had similar problems as mine.... My server is a ThinkServer RS210, X3430, 4gb Ram, Dual Onboard 1gbe, pfSense 22.01 I tried plugging it in as I expected it to work.. Nothing, Bios wouldnt see the card, OS wouldnt see the card.. but I had a power and link light. So its not DOA.. I thought it may be the riser card, So i took out the riser, plugged it directly into the 8xg2 slot.. Link light, again Bios and OS would not see the card. Next tried the 1xg2 slot, same deal... I disabled the onboard nics and only left the i225 card installed.. Bios/OS did not recognize, but I had a link light. During all this dmesg had nothing related to the i225, and niether did pciconf -lv or dmidecode At this point I was thinking defective card... So I pulled it and put it in an old HP desktop running ubuntu 21.04... Plugged it into the 1x slot.. linux booted, recognized the card, Pulled an IP address, and I did a speed test of 980mbps.. Fewf! card isnt DOA. (lspci -vv said card is running at 1x degraded, i have nfc what that means... probly why the speed was under 1k gbps) I plugged it back into the RS210, Grabbed my i350-t4 intel card, grabbed my i225v, installed them on the dual riser card.. disabled the onboard nics... and VOILA.. pfsense recognizes ALL 5 ports... The i350 as "igb" and the i225v as "igc"... configured my WAN/LAN, did a speed test and pulled approx 1300mbps.. Now... Is this a common thing? it doesnt really make sense that I'd have to install an i350-T4 to get my i225v working... Or maybe it was having a card plugged into each side of the riser? Im pretty sure that if I enable the onboard nics that i'd have 7 ports available to me (actually, one of the disabled ports is my IMPI and its functioning fine... weird) Also, Is pcie gen2 x1 fast enough for 2.5gbps? I have shaw 1.5, and I am having a problem pulling more than 1gbps thru it.. I am connected to the 2.5 port, and pfsense sees the nic trained to 2500gbaset. Its a 1x card plugged into an 8x Gen2 slot via 90degree riser card. Im at loss of why/what caused my problems.. Any ideas? Im glad I have things working, but I am puzzled at the root cause. Thanks!!

If you have your own random knowledge that you want people to find more easily, add it on 1) Q: What is the distance between fittings on EK waterblocks? How far apart are the ports on both the CPU or GPU blocks? A: 29mm center to center distance, and yes bitspower 3/4" tubing compression fittings will fit beside eachother because they are 28mm diameter. A: No, only the battery backup plugs are calculated, the surge protected plugs are not factored in to the power consumption. A: No, it only affects reflection, refraction stays the same regardless of coating. Source: Edmund Optics support 4) Q: How much does anodizing cost? A: Minimum payment is usually $100, even if it's just a low quantity or small piece. At the place near me, it was still only $100 for ~6sq ft. Hard anodized coating is a bit more expensive, about $150 for ~6 sq ft of aluminum. Just email and ask for a quick quote. You aren't committing to buying anything by asking for a quote. Hello, I am a tech noob and I am just about to upgrade my first graphics card from a GTX 760 to a GTX 1060. Out of my online browsing, I have considered the "EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 3GB GDDR5" but there are so many options of 1060 to choose from or other good graphic cards. Specs: Processor: i7-4790 Memory: DDR3 16GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX760 192BIT 3GB Motherboard: Asus - H81M-E Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (NOT THE RIGHT MODEL BUT LOOKS SORT OF THE SAME) Power Supply: I think 500W (check the picture to confirm) My Questions Are: Is my current choice of a GPU a good choice? If not what GPU do you recommend that's around the same price or even less? Is this current model compatible with my other specs? Whats the difference between the 1050 and 1060? Hi, I was in CADD class and we are using some nonstandard version of the HP z440 Workstation, so naturally the first thing I tried to do was find the specs and the GPU came up as being a Nvidia Quadro K4200 with 12206Mb or 12gb of memory but this card on the consumer level only comes with 4gb,am I missing something? Could it be that im just reading the GPU memory wrong? Any insight is appreciated.

Eons ago I went out and got myself a A+, so I can study and pass the A+ exam. Doing a practice test, I've noticed some of the answers are not what you think they are, but what the test creator thinks it's the right answer. Thus the reason why I never took it, even though I would really like to. Test cost in the US $199 per exam, so that's $400 for both hardware and software. Failed, than tough luck, study harder, pay again to pass next time. Pass? Congrats! Hi LTT Community, Recently, whenever I play a game ( probably a graphic demanding one ), somewhere during gameplay the game would just go to a black screen, static would appear for about less than a second, and then it would just go black and i'm not too sure how long it would stay like that ( never had the patience to actually wait ), I usually just press Ctrl+Alt+Del as neither Alt+Tab nor the Start button works to go to the desktop. So after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, it would take maybe about a minute ( probably a bit longer ) to show up, after which it opens task manager and I then proceed to close the process. I am not sure why this problem happens, sometimes it recurs after it had just happened and I try to play the same game again. However, a solution that works for me is restarting the computer ( a solution, yes, but not a long-term one ). I am now looking to you guys to help me with a proper, permanent solution ( if there is one ) as this is really an annoying problem. Thanks, James
