I keep asking the same question everywhere and I never once had a satisfying answer. What causes CRC erroring to happen? This is my current DSL log. I have examined the wire from the local box to the end. I spotted no single sign of defect. The wire was pretty solid even tho it barely contains any copper in it. I have examined and cleaned the contacts also near the DSL modem and around the splitter. The SNR margin isn't great, but looks fine. The line attenuation is beyond outstanding. I have 2 phones connected with an ADSL splitter across the line (one near the modem and the other somewhere else [both of them on a splitter]). I get these CRC errors occasionally and sometimes even DSL interruptions. However I am still getting the same errors with/without phones connected and even without any splitter (just the modem connected and nothing else) Assuming that the line is connected properly from the start to the end and assuming that the local box have no issues, what could be causing CRC errors on my DSL line? CRC can be anything from 1 to thousands on upstream or downstream (mostly downstream) Another thing to mention is that I should be getting 2045 kbps upload, but the current low SNR on the downstream doesn't allow the ISP to activate Annex M modulation which would drop the downstream SNR in order to left the upstream SNR up

Hi, I'm from Belgium, the european country with the worst networking in the union (300k inhabitants but still adsl), my city is building a tram so there are lots of works. I'm trying to enjoy online gaming but it is unplayable, I get disconnects that last from 2 to 15sec every other minute... This is an issue because it prevents me from playing anything that isn't turn based and sometimes disconnects me from discord, it's been going on for weeks. I called my isp allready, the line worked when they checked so they won't do anything about the connection working part time. I do not have acess to ethernet, exept if I go cpl plus laptop dongle, and the house is from the 18 hundreds so I dont think the electrical would do well with the cpl, I can't drill either because we are renting. Things I tryed: I did speeds and ping tests via websites, speed is fine (~10 Mbytes/s) and ping doesn't appear to go over 250ms (avg ~20ms). I installed inSSider and looked at the wifi channels, my wifi is the only one on its channel and I have rather good signal -61 dBm. How do I test to know wether the problem is with the adsl line (tram works all over the city), my router, or my laptop's wifi card ?

So there's not a single decent router that you can buy in the us that still has DSL support especially ADSL+ support so I'm thinking I could just build my own. up here in the mountains it's DSL or Internet that's it. Starlink isn't possible down here and the modem frontier provided is horse crap. it's wifi speeds are slow it doesn't support the latest standards it's range sucks it only has 2 Ethernet ports it's link speed is 757kbps and it's just awful and I'm wondering if there's anyway I could use a old Dell optiplex and have it work with opensense while having it's wan hooked up from ADSL+ is this possible in any way? But still have all the latest features like wifi 6 2.3 and 5ghz port forwarding gigabyte Ethernet wpa3 long range and still receiving updates? Is this all possible?

Hello! I was using adsl from past 10 years but i live in small city so here in our city dsl services are not good even on 10mbps package i receive only 1mb speed and upload even worse. So i switched to 4G wireless Broadband and they gave me the pocket sized 4G wireless Router i receive 25mb to 30Mb speeds on it with ping of 20 to 24 amx and i am happy with it no issue at all. But i have few things some curiosity about Wireless Connection. One thing that i noted is When i open some regularly used websites it give me "Forbidden" error until i restart the device. Second thing is whenever i face any captcha i have to solve it but on my adsl connection i just click on i am not robot box and done but on this connection site ask me to solve the full captcha. Now i am a freelancer and working on various freelancing sites that's why i want to ask is my Wireless Connection safe or should i switch back to my shity slow dsl for to avoid any blocking or problem on my freelancing sites. Or is this normal and fine and i can use this without any problem. I didn't have any kind of issue on my Freelancing sites yet so just for curiosity sake and any future issue just wanted ask why this is happening with me on on 4G wireless network :) Thanks

Hi all! Straight to the point: In school we have internet on an RJ-45 connector. My IT teacher is a bit disorganised so he ordered two adsl routers (6-pin plug, with 1 and 6 unused). My question is how do I make things work? Someone please explain if those standards are compatible with eachother and if yes, then can you provide a pinout of both connectors so I can rewire things to work. Thanks in advance!

i am looking for the best router which works with dsl/adsl that has good range for 2 floor house. i would prefer a router that supports ddwrt but its not absolutely necessary

Hello guys! I want to ask you if a 24 Mbps Adsl connection is enough for gaming. I know it won't have so high upload speed, but how much worse than the vdsl?

I'm planning to set up a pfsense rater basted network and wondered if you need a separate modem for an adsl rj45/Rj11 Internet. If so does anyone have any recommendations. Thanks

So basically I've been fighting with my ISP for the last 12 months attempting to get off this god awful ADSL1 connection and onto a much faster ADSL2/2+ connection. For 12 months they've said that the exchange has no ports left, but after my brother moved down the road he immediately got an ADSL2+ connection. I contacted them and they've come and told me that the new lines in an estate that's 3 years old are incompatible with ADSL2/2+ but not with ADSL. I'm fairly sure that this is complete and utter BS but would like to get some insight as to whether there's any truth to it or if I should be contacting the ombudsman about them.

Hi all, So I live in Australia, and I don’t yet have nbn (what a surprise). I’m still on an ADSL connection, and we recently moved houses and got a new modem. While connecting and testing the network, I had a quick look at the splitter/filter that plugs into the wall outlet. As it turns out, the in/out ports on the splitter are pretty weird, at least to me. They fit an RJ45 connector, but they only have 4 contacts in the port (Is 8P4C a thing?). But, RJ11 connectors are used for phone lines and ADSL connections. So telstra have little plastic inserts that convert the RJ45 into an RJ11. What is the point of all this conversion even though there’s only 4 contacts in the port!?

Hi guys, I just need to ask a quick question, How can I join these cables together one is a standard UTP Cat5e ethernet and the other is a standard and i think an Rj11 dsl cable (image below)? Any tips, trips and instructions would help so much! Thank you

Hello everybody, I live most of the year in a dorm room in Austria, since the last month the internet connection became unstable, and as it student, I kinda need the internet. I was thinking about getting an unlimited LTE contract but I wanted to know if there is a "cheap" way to bond the LTE with the dorms connection together and use them like that in some sort of mptcp config. I currently have a Netgear Router. Is there any way to bond the internet connection form the dorm room together with the one form the LTE "router"?

So right now I've got 12Mbps download through ADSL2+. The ISP that provides that actually offers a bonded VDSL service that provides 25Mbps down for less than I pay now. The other option would be a WISP PTP that could provide 20Mbps down. Also I work for a company that is VERY closely partnered with the WISP. If I had service issues or needed a couple public IPs I think I could get them easily. Pricing is very similar, I WISP was about $40 more however since they work with the company I work for they lowered their pricing. Which would you choose, I'm worried about latency and weather interference with the PTP.

How come my internet always slows down over a course of 1 week. I have a 4 M/bit line (fastest available in my area) but within a week or quicker, it slows down to 2 or even sub 1. It seems the only solution is to keep phoning my ISP and asking them to do a port reset. What is a port reset and why is it the only thing that can get my speed back to normal?

Hey there, So I've recently purchased a new router, the Archer C7, and I'd like to use it along with the adsl modem my isp provided. I've tried bridging the 2 but it drastically hinders my internet speeds. How else would I be able to get them to work together efficiently without affecting my internet speeds greatly? Regards, Ryan

Hi all, would first like to preface this by saying I know only a small amount about how adsl/vdsl works and thats half of why I'm here for help. Basically, recently upgraded to a 70mbps connection (VDSL) from ADSL, and didnt think to check that I had RJ45 (or RJ11) ports before doing so, and am sitting with the old phonejack ports (BT iirc) Would it impact my internets performance if I used a BT to RJ11/45 adapter, or would I need to go all the way and get someone in to replace the faceplates (Im not sure if the wiring for a phonejack can be used with VDSL although my adsl ran through one with a splitter) Thanks for any help

Hi, So at work we have given out firewalls to certain staff, The idea being that they are then secure when the connect to us. The issue however is that the Broadband provider for these lines Authenticates with PPPOA and the Firewalls use PPPOE. I know that the Draytek Vigor 120 could fix this issue easily - However my work does not want to add an extra device into the mix as these are peoples homes. My issues are The Broadband company do have some slight PPPOE support but this switchs back to PPPOA or becomes unstable or they forget and switch it back We can't add extra devices (even though i think we should) Going to another company isnt an option This company only does ADSL so we cannot upgrade to fibre or a different type of service THe PPPOE Support is a much slower rate - ADSL1 My company will not swap out or change the Firewall Routers. I am and we are in the UK Is there any way or will this be a case of banging my head against the wall ?

My isp gave a free modem router which is garbage and I am only getting 8-9 Mbps out of 24. Should I buy a modem-router or I can get away by just getting a decent ac router?

I'm about to upgrade my router to a new, faster and more capable one. I own a Linksys WAG120N Wireless ADSL Router and after using it for a good 4 years, it's time for me to upgrade and buy one with capabilities such as: 802.11 AC 5Ghz Channel BeamForcing Technology USB port for sharing printer and Storage Devices As a student, I'm on a budget right now and I don't plan to buy an overkill product with extra features that I probably won't use therefore based on my usage which consists of online gaming, streaming videos, and home-networking; I need a router that costs between $100 to $200. I'd like to like to hear your suggestions. Also, my internet comes from an RJ-11 port on a telephone line which gives an ADSL internet and what gets confusing is when I'm surfing online shopping websites, I find out there are two sections for routers, one is ADSL Routers, the other is simply Routers with no mentioning of RJ-11 input. Although looking at the photos of the back of the routers (Non-ADSL ones) I find no input of RJ-11 socket but mostly a WAN port with 4 LAN Ports. So I have two questions about this matter: Does WAN port support RJ-11 sockets? Should I purchase a separate ADSL modem and then connect the LAN Cable to the wireless router and use it as bridge mode? I'm not good at networking terms so please forgive me for any mistakes made along the text.

>>>>>YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ THIS FIRST PARAGRAPH BUT IT GIVES GOOD BACKGROUND<<<<< So like idk, a month ago lightning struck an apartment behind me. It blew the electrical panel doors off and fried all the wired internet devices.... and whether it went through the ground or through the phone line doesn't matter. It traveled to my house and completely melted the inside of the RJ11 jack, went to the ADSL modem, blew the front cover off of that (Oh it blew the ADSL filter into pieces), went from the modem to the first PC (6ft Ethernet cable) and completely melted that RJ45 jack and put a black spot behind the NIC on the motherboard frying the mobo. Then it went through the seconded patch cable (10ft) to a RJ45 jack in the wall. Traveled about 100ft across the house to my bedroom, running though a 100ft patch cable to my (Temporary) network switch, burnt that up and put scorch marks on my desk, came out of that through a (6ft) patch cable into another PC, frying only the NIC and leaving the PC operational and the only computer that survived was my custom built one. ANYWAYS, None of that was needed. Every friggin time it rains my 12Mbps down shitty internet goes to like 2Mbps or less. Rn I'm getting like .98Mbps, it doesn't do this everytime it rains but a lot. Since the lightning strike also fried the box outside the house the line coming into the box was cut back and redone, a new box was installed (VERY NICE ONE!!!), new Cat 6 phone lines were put in, a HUGE lightning suppressor was put outside, all the grounds redone and dielectric grease put on everything. It looks great, CAT 6 throughout the house. The line from the box to the street was completely redone and new layed about 2yrs ago so everything is in great shape. So idk why my internet service is so shitty. If I call and complain it usually goes up within a day or two but otherwise my internet sucks. If you want pictures of the damage and also the new Network Interface Box mention it in your comment.

Hi everyone, I need help with finding a solution for my home network. It's based on ADSL connection and runs at 40mbps download and about 4 upload. when im connected via ethernet cable or just sitting next to the router and using wifi, I get the speed i should, but the problem starts with my pc. it is a floor above the router and about 25 meters distant (on foot, aerial distance is about 6 meters). I bought the TP-LINK WA830RE range extender but i only get speeds of about 5 mbps that aren't enough at all. I don't want to rush and get PLC connectors so i want to consult first. I also need a solution for my brother's room, that is also complaining about the wifi (all he does is play a PS4 or surf the web on his phone). If more information is needed please ask, beacause this situation is intolerable. Thank's in advance, and sorry if I have grammar issues. TP-LINK WA830RE link: http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/cat-10_TL-WA830RE.html
