Whats Next?: All updates that I planned for today have been haulted due to time constraints. I have to get this build finnished before 6 this evening which is going to be tough. I simply don't feel like working on blogs today. Hoever, lots of stuff arrived today so i can start updating the Drawer Blog and The Red Mod Blog. Stay tuned. Thank You :) p.s. Here's some images of the build so far...

Hello guys! So I have 2 complete builds (specs at bottom). I've rendered the same test videos with the same settings, with almost absolutely no background usage. Also made 3DMark Firestrike's physic test. For the render: I5 6500 was almost the same as FX 8320, I5 beat the FX by 1sec. The Firestrike showed the FX to be 2FPS faster than the I5. So the question is, tho I admit already that I'm no expert, so it might be stupid one: How is that the FX chips are told to be bottlenecking even with the GTX 900 and R9 300 series, not to mention the newest ones, but the I5 can happily even go with the GTX 1080, while both CPUs seem to be working with the same overall power at 100% on all cores. What I don't want to see here is, FX sux, even I3 is better. The thing is that I know that some benchmarks and some games run faster on I3s, as those things have an unbeatable single core performance, same applies to I5s, on 2-4 cores, it'll annihilate any current AMD chips. But when it comes to games like Fallout 4, which I played with CPU monitoring on, and ate 100%@8cores, yet it performed much much much worse than the I5? Also I made sure to use lower settings if necessary and watched the GPUs on both setups, and eliminated the chance of GPU causing problems. No temperature problems. RAM never hit the maximum Specs - AMD setup: AMD FX-8320@4.0GHz cooled by Deepcool Maelstrom 240t ASUS R9 390 (3 fans version) ASUS M5A99X EVO R 2.0 Crucial 240GB BX 200 Specs - Intel Setup: I5 6500 @3.2GHz cooled by stock cooler Gigabyte GTX 1060 3GB windforce Asrock B150m-HDS Western Digital 1TB 64MB WD10EZEX Due to my not-so-good english, sometimes things get messy, so the question again: FX-8320 and I5 6500 same performance at 100% at every core. How I5 doesn't bottleneck, while FX does?

Hello, Not too long ago I built my second gaming rig because my laptop pretty much died. I used an old FX-8320E processor running at 3.2 GHz stock. I have tried many different solutions to overclock it but it just wont go past 3.75 GHz. Here's my specs: -FX-8320E -16GB 1888MHz DDR3 ram -RX 480 8GB graphics card -Asus 970 AURA gaming motherboard -CX-750 PSU -Freezer 13 CPU air cooler It's a low budget build but overall does the job. I Have gotten it as high as 3.9GHz without a crash but its pretty unstable. At 4GHz it won't power on at all. I've set the voltage to 1.35 so it's not that. I have sufficient cooling that never gets my CPU past 53C, so it's not a problem with heat. It simply just wont overclock. Let me know if I am doing this wrong, as I have only started overclocking CPUs with this rig.

Hi. I was wondering if my overclock on my fx 8320 is safe on my motherboard. It has a 4+1 power phase and i heard its not the best for overclocking because the VRM's could overheat. To create the worst situation I used aida64 and stressed my cpu, fpu, cache, ram, and my gpu. I was getting 3 temps on my motherboard and 2 were at 50c and one was at 60c I was wondering if those were safe temps for my motherboard. Ny cpu was at 55c and my gpu was at 60c during the test also. I am running my cpu at 4.5ghz which is .5ghz higher from my 4ghz boost on my fx 8320. I am also using 1.425 volts which might be too high but im not sure. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hey all, So basically, I'm looking to do some upgrades on my budget AMD system that I'm having some fun with and basically I want to upgrade the CPU cooler to something that performs a bit better and is A LOT quieter (as in, doesn't run at 2000RPM with no load like the stock cooler). But I'm kind of torn between a few options, I've been looking at the Cooler Master Hyper 212EVO, the Noctua NH-U9B SE2 and some AIO stuff like the Cooler Master Seidon 240V, they're all within budget (and I'm open to suggestions, especially noctua stuff as I've never tried them) and I am planning on doing some overclocking on this system (my first OC too!) because of the FX processor. In case this matters for clearance and stuff I have the system in a Phanteks Eclipse P400S case that has front mounts for radiators, I have an ASUS 970 Pro Gaming Aura (ATX) motherboard and the RAM I use is standard sized AData DDR3 1600MHz. It really helps if you give prices in Euros or give links to stores in Europe, the UK or Ireland (Even stuff like Komplett.ie or Amazon.co.uk) Thanks in advance! Dylan.

Hey. I currently have a fx 8320@4.4ghz 16gb ram and an asus m5a99x evo 3. I was thinking on buying intel. I found a 6500 +*8gb + msi gaming z170 for around 600 USD. Bare in mind I live in Argentina so the price can be a bit inflated for importing tax and sellers cut. Is a good idea to buy 6th gen today? On games I have no problem now with the amd. Only on minecraft MODDED I want to be able to play modded minecraft on 60+fps, would be enough? I know that mother is too much for the cpu I think on upgrading eventually maybe k or i7 and definitely more ram. Thanks

Is getting an 8320 or 8350 on a budget? how bad will the bottleneck be with an r9 fury?

Hi I was wondering I could get to 5ghz on my 8320 and also wondering if my current overclock is good with stock fan with no volt increase got it to go 4.2 ghz stable going to get a aftermarket fan CRYORIG H7 was wondering if that's going to be strong enough to get me there should I buy another fan to turn it into a dual fan if so should I do a push pull or what here is my specs MSI Gaming 970 Gaming DEEPCOOL KENDOMEN case 5 fans installed not including the cpu fan 8GB 1600 DDR3 Ram

So I was trying to find some information on people's experience overclocking the FX-8320 and I couldn't find much that wasn't years old which I guessed since it is a few years old now. Anyway, I was wondering what speeds and voltages and temps people this forum were achieving or if you had one in the past achieved. Any posts from 8350 or 9590 users is welcome to since they are the same chip just clocked higher. I run 4.7Ghz stable at 1.43 Volts tried to go higher but seems to be the limit for now, might try uping voltage a bit more than I'm conformable with just to see if I can push it more. I get around 52-54 degrees using my H100i under full load and 34 degrees at idle. (Although the FX chips are notorious for giving false readings below 40 degrees.)

Hello there people. Hope you guys doing fine. I have an R9 290 from like 4 or 5 years ago. Its brand is Sapphire, the TRI-X model. I have an AM3+ 970A G43 Motherboard and an FX 8320, also for PSU I have Highpower 750W. So for my question, is the R9 OK for the new games such as BF5 or some sick a** shooters, you know. And of course if it is OK, then to what should I upgrade my CPU and thusly the MoBo to with a third world country currency (from Turkey)? Thanks for helping, cheers.

Hey, i have an amd fx based system running a 4k 60hz display. Since my gtx 970 can't deliver the horses i need to run new games at ultra settings at 4k@60 i want to buy a new graphics card. I have around $800 to spend and i thought of the gtx 2080 wich will hopefully be released in the next few months. Now my question is, if my old cpu will bottleneck hard. During gaming my cpu never exeeds a load of 40-50%, although my gpu often sits at 90-100% load. Sure, i am considering to upgrade (to an i5 kaby lake) (which is damn expensive since i have to buy a new MB, new ram and a new cooler), but right now i do not have the money for that since it will not give me the fps boost i need. What do you think?

Ok so I am not sure what's going on with this system... It runs on a few weeks old clean windows installation everything up to date and no other issues what so ever.... Practically on my everyday life i did not notice any hiccups what so ever because the system despite not performing as it should is still smooth and fast. But I noticed that when running an IntelBurnTest on very high I get almost half the GigaFlofps compared to a guy who has the same CPU as me with a slightly slower ram (mine is a trident x DDr3 2400 Mhz dual channel his is a 1800 hz kit) ... and I noticed that despite the burn test running my CPU (according to task manager ) was running at ~90% at 3.25GHz (despite the default clock being 3.5 GHz with 4Ghz boost) This was very strange.. I thought maybe its because I have the power settings as "balanced" I changed them to high performance and still no change... Then I thought to restart my computer and load an OC profile I had in my BIOS at 4.4Ghz all cores and ~1.4 Vcore etc (this profile used to work flawlessly and I use to run benchmarks and game for hours a day in the past with this profile) The PC seems to boot to windows faster but upon running cinebench I get like 490 I dont remember how much I used to get in the past but I think it was a little more than 500 on factory clocks here is the video with all the metrics while running cinebench https://streamable.com/jt1l1 What gives ??? If it was a failed OC it should freeze or something right? yet the temps are ok (on air) I recorded the video and uploaded it I type here this post without restarting etc and everything works fine and smooth and fast but not as fast as it should be... I really never had a similar situation before.... (please take a look at the video to understand better of what I am talking about) **EDIT** The Cinebench score is at 551 which is normal, maybe it was slower because of all those HWinfo windows I had etc.. but still it did not run as OC it only run as 3.45 GHz and the score is normal for default clocks. **EDIT2** Problem solved guys... the problem was Asrocks quirky Bios interface which when loading the previously saved O.C profile did not actually really set the system on those settings (I mean as you can see in the picks in a post bellow this topic the settings were visibly there and seemed visibly enabled by the bios but in reality they were not) I had to a) reset to defaults b) enter each value again manually on my own (not touching the OC profile I saved) identically to how its shown in the pictures bellow in the following posts and then boom everything get set up and windows run my CPU at 4.4Ghz....

There's already a thread on idle temp but started this based on cooler. I have a Hyper 103 installed on. Previously it was the noisy stock cooler on my AMD FX 8320(NOT OVERCLOCKED). Ambient room temp is like 30'c - 35'c. Then the load temp was being like 38'c-42'c but after installing this Hyper 103................. OH NO!!!! It's more than the stock cooler's temps!! Idle is between 45'c - 50'c (fourth photo below of BIOS). Load reached 68'c while I was playing Black Flag as a test!!! Siht happened! I reapplied the thermal paste. The third photo below is the second time's application. Before the paste coat was thick I think(First and second photos). I really tried to do everything I could. I just built the machine yesterday but the problem is killing me, worrying me. Having tension hugely!! Case is #Thermaltake Versa n25. I opened the plastic parts thinking the air would flow in a better manner but nothing happened. A good friend told me to change the thermal paste. Why is it so? I think my noisy stock cooler didn't make me thi frustrated!! What to do? 1 2 3 4

I have overclocked my fx 8320 to 4.4 ghz (Multiplier overclock with added voltage). I could run aida64 for over 12 hours no issue. realbench stress and bench no issue. prime95 5+ hours no issue. However, I am running into some problems and I have downclocked the chip. I have reduced my clock to 4.0 (constant turbo) and put it back to factory voltage. I know the h75 is not the best cooler but it does the job. When I had it overvolted and overclocked my idle temps were around 35c with ambient about 75f. Under load I would see it get up to 60c and when I render video it got up past 62c a few times. I have wondered if there was damage. What really got me worried was when I would go to reboot with the overclock applied, it would take FOREVER. I would actually find it faster to shut down, I would have to flip off the power supply for then back on to get it to reboot quickly. I usually put it to sleep at night before bed, go to work, come home and wake it back up as to save power. Last week I could not wake it up. I hit the spacebar as I always do, the pc powered on but I got a black screen. The front top case fan was also making a horrible noise so while it sat there I popped the cover and saw the gpu light was dim not bright and all the fans plugged into the mobo were running at like 20rpm , just very very slow which is why the case fan was growling I presume. I shut down, switched off the psu and tried to fire it back up. This time the fans were ok but the pc would not POST. MF! So I ended up having to clear CMOS, pull the battery (which due to the card size, I have to remove the gpu to get to smh) and it finally posted with defaults set. I decided to just undo the overclock, add no cpu voltage and leave it running at 4ghz (which is the 8320 turbo with no added voltage) It is worth mentioning I have to add DRAM voltage (1.5 to 1.6) to get my mobo to run the 16gb at 1866 and not at 1600. So let me know what you guys think? Right now..its working. But I really do suspect something is wrong with the board or chip. What does LTT community suggest? Thanks in advance!

Hello, Need an assistance ASAP. As I use AMD, the idle stays 38'c-40'c with Cooler Master 212X. With 3D Ps rendering or A.C Syndicate, temp goes up to 60'c with 212X. As it is a costly cooler, why can't I get a better result? Ambient room temp stays within 28'c-30'c. One thing really irked me. I was playing Syndicate. The game just froze. Nothing was working. Even, Ctrl+Alt+Del. Had to restart. Any suggestion? Setup: 8320 Stock Speed Cooler 212X (Two fans) Sapphire RX 460 4GB Corsair Vengeance 4x2 1600Mhz

So, my story is this.. Bought the 8320 2-3 years ago. Used Evo 212X for 2 years, now the ongoing 3rd year I've been using H110i GT on a 970A-UD3 motherboard. I feel like the temperatures on my CPU are rising overtime, I see people rocking 4.5GHz with an air cooler and I am having trouble with the watercooling. I know this is a terrible motherboard to overclock with but 'bear' with me, I've never really let the CPU temperatures go above 60c for longer periods of time. Right now I'm running 4.6GHz with 1.32v and I am getting around 55c when rendering a video, which I think is really the worst case scenario for the CPU. I remember running 4.5 and such with the Evo 212X 2 years ago with temperatures being really nice. ' So my question is, what could be wrong here? The CPU, something to do with degradation or the motherboard and it's VRM? Cause when I clock to around 4.7 then after doing Prime, the CPU downclocks but with the temperatures being fine.

Hi Linus (and others who may find this interesting ) I somehow doubt this message will reach him, but here goes nothing. I've seen countless OC videos on youtube, and so many things have been done that it's hard to get new content that people will come and watch for the next few years right? I propose that you'd make a video in which instead of overclocking, you'd make a CPU run at somewhat lower speed, let's say 3.5/6Ghz, while the temperatures would be cool, I haven't found anything about this, since google always leads to more OC settings, and I really think that this content would be watched by many more people like me, Summer is comming. My gf and I like to play minecraft in my kind of small room, and it gets quite hot, so i really think it would be helpful to have this oven cooled down to bearable temperatures, I know that in Canada you most likely won't have problems with this (loled), but do it for the same of the viewers Even more so, I'd aprechiate it if it were done for a similar components set as i have ^-^ ............................................... my specs: MB: ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 CPU: AMD FX-8320 GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 770 2GB Water cooling corsair h60 ssd:264GB HDD:2TB 750W supply power RAM(form CPU-Z): DUAL CHANNEL(abab); a)DDR3 8GB (max 666Mhz-jedec4(9,9,9,24) running max bandwith: 667Mhz b)DDR3 4GB (min 685Mhz-jedec4(9,9,9,24), max 800 xmp-1600(9,9,9,24) or 800 jedec6(11,11,11,28)) running max bandwith: 800Mhz in bios i've set it to auto, and it's written 11,11,11,28 next to it, giving 19,9/24 GB usable, while 99924 would give me about 4/24. in memory section of ram it's also 669.9/3:10/11.0/11/11/28/33. I thought i should specify this, in case it affects it.. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

So I'm currently trying to make a new build, on a budget. So after going through different new builds I could make I wasn't quite happy with the specs I was coming up with. My ideal budget at the time was around £300 but I'm bumping that up to £500. To begin with I wanted the most budget gaming rig I could build but decided instead of being a cheapass I should spend a little extra cash to get a rig that will last a little longer. I saw a few posts on on the hardware swap reddit page that caught my eye and planned up a mid-range build that I'm quite happy with but am I paying a good price on these parts? The build: CPU: Used - AMD FX 8320 - £68.5 - (This is in a bundle with my motherboard, paying £132 + paypal fees of £4.85 for a total of £136.85 or £68.5 per part if you look at it that way. The CPU was bought new by the seller 2-3 years ago with a small OC. Watercooled until 6 months ago, after that the seller used a Hyper 212 until 1 month ago, after he stopped using it.) Motherboard: Used - ASUS Sabertooth 990FX - £68.5 - (Said he bought the motherboard off Ebay around 1 year ago, unsure of how long it was used before that.) Memory: New - Kingston HyperX Fury Black (2x4GB) DDR3-1866 - £29.63 - (Just cheap RAM at a decent speed from a good manufacturer.) Video Card: Used - Zotac GTX 960 2GB - £95 - (This was from another seller, selling his video card and PSU for a total of £140 including shipping. The card looks in good condition and comes in box with all accessories included.) PSU: Used - Seasonic G450 80+ Gold Modular - £45 - (Not much to say, he sent me a link to his ebay listing of this and he has 100% feedback with hundreds of items sold, sounds like a promising guy to purchase used parts from. The PSU looks a lot better than the budget EVGA 430w model I was looking at.) Case: New - Corsair SPEC 01 Red - £35.99 - (I just like the look of this case and it's not too expensive. Would be open to suggestions.) I have a couple of HDD's and an SSD here ready to use for data. The only thing I'll need to purchase is a CPU cooler. Looking at all these parts new on pcpartpicker you're looking at around £524 PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor (£112.96 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (£139.87 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£29.63 @ More Computers) Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card (£143.99 @ Ebuyer) Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case (£35.99 @ Amazon UK) Other: SEASONIC G450 80+ Gold Modular (£61.00) Total: £523.44 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-20 00:57 BST+0100 but used it comes to a total of around £343 PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£29.63 @ More Computers) Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case (£35.99 @ Amazon UK) Other: AMD FX 8320 (£68.50) Other: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX (£68.50) Other: ZOTAC GTX 960 2GB (£95.00) Other: SEASONIC G450 80+ Gold Modular (£45.00) Total: £342.62 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-20 01:00 BST+0100 A total saving of £181 TL:DR Am I getting a good deal on these used parts?

Hey guys, how you doing? In a few weeks I'm going to be able to spend around $300 dollars on upgrades for my Gaming PC. Right now my build is... Component Selection Price CPU AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor $129.99 Buy CPU Cooler NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler $135.99 Buy Thermal Compound Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver 3.5g Thermal Paste $6.89 Buy Motherboard MSI 970 GAMING ATX AM3+ Motherboard $99.88 Buy Memory Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory $79.98 Buy Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $46.89 Buy Video Card Asus GeForce GTX 980 4GB STRIX Video Card $459.99 Buy Case NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case $63.99 Buy Power Supply EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $76.99 Buy I was thinking I should probably use my money to upgrade the motherboard and the processor. I mean the 8320 isn't bottlenecking my gtx 980 too bad but, it could be better. I'd love to hear if anyone can think of better ways to use my money but, for a Gaming PC I think I definitely need a better Processor. I'd love to hear some ideas on good mobos and processors that would fit well into my budget. Thanks!

I also tried leaving all settings on auto and only set cpu speed to 4Ghz, no freeze after 10 min prime test but temperatures 81 degree socket and 71 degree core which are over the head. CPU VCORE on auto gets to 1.308V max. Any advice?

Hey LTT Community, I am Building a new computer, I want to use an fx 8320 on a Msi 970A Sli Krait edition Motherboard. I Need to use 32 gb RAM, is the CPU able to handle 2x16gb dual 1866mhz cl10 HyperX fury RAM on quad Channel? Thanks
